I've been going to Lovell's since 1990. Tom is the best and their selection is great for a small indie record store. Their used music and movies section never disappoints. Fair prices, close proximity to home and friendly staff makes this my go-to place for media hunting. I hope it's around forever. read more

Look, nobody WANTS to shop here. We HAVE to shop here. The workers are irritating and pretentious. The records smell and make me itchier than Miley Cyrus' crotch. But the price on DVDs and Blu Rays are amazing. Only time I go there is to check for movie prices and I jam right away. It's better to just order stuff online or go across the street to the book store for records. read more

PROS: great selection of vinyl, movies, posters, and few other cool stuff. I always walk out with some cool new vinyl. I also like that it's by a lot of great shops. The staff is also very friendly, and they also have a rewards card If you go often. CONS: not really any, do wish they had more vinyl. read more

I really hope this place NEVER closes. My boyfriend and I spend our Sunday's CD shopping (Yes we both still obsessively collect CD's). All the employees here are super friendly. In particular, Jessica ( cute white girl with glasses) and her husband are my absolute favorites. She greets me like an old friend and is always so helpful. SIDE NOTE: She also bakes amazing treats and offered some to us while we were leaving one day. SO good and I need to place an order with her soon lol They have fantastic prices here and cool finds. I enjoy coming here while in Whittier. Lovell's sells and buys cds. (However when they buy they do kinda lowball you) Bring in your older cds and trade up for new ones. Variety of vinyl as wells. Also have dvds. Love coming in because I feel I'm in a vintage record shop. Have found cds here that I never thought I would find. Lovell's also has a sale section where cds can be as long as $2. There is a parking section behind the building as parking in front of the store is usually all taken. They also have flyers in the front of local indie bands so if you're into that, check it out. read more

This is a really cool place! My son, who is an old soul, loves vinyl so naturally he wanted to go here for his birthday. It's really unique with a nice selection of pre-owned music, movies, etc., so just about everyone can find something they like. The selection of vinyl is pretty expansive and everything is organized and labeled clearly. I appreciated the fact that records were put back where they belonged and that the staff was really nice, knowledgeable, and professional. My boys were in heaven, which made me happy so we'll be back. Long Live Vinyl! read more

I stop in occasionally during my lunch break and I always end up leaving with something. Great selection of used vinyl if you are into rock. Well organized unlike some records shops I've been to. Some of the prices are a little high on the new vinyl (but I don't know a single record store that has decent prices on new vinyl). Always worth a visit. read more

This place is a gem in Whittier. I've had some amazing used record and movie finds at great prices. I randomly found The Beatles White Album for $16 used, but in great condition. I also found an Eagles greatest hits vinyl for $5 and Local Natives and Phoenix...I could go on and on. I also like that they price their new release movies really cheap. I found a new blue ray Hobbit and Hunger Games collections for $30 each. The only thing I won't give them is the new vinyls are a bit pricey. And the service isn't the greatest. I stop here at least once a week, and check out what they've got. They keep a constant flow of new stuff coming in, and it's great to find the hidden gems. The staff is super friendly and quite helpful. They've got quite a good variety and I always find a couple things to take home and put under the needle. If you haven't had the chance to check them out do it, there's a reason they've been in Whittier for so long. read more

We asked to see come cassette tapes that were behind the counter and the guy said "no, I'm busy doing something, come back later," to which he simply went back to talking to a friend of his who was in the shop. I will always have a special place in my heart for Lovell's records. Even though their new merch can seem a bit expensive you can always count on at least one gem in the used record and/or used dvd sections. I've been going to Lovell's since the mid-90's with a good friend of mine (who lives in Whittier). For the most part, it's a pretty cool store in that it's pretty laid back, the owner is a really cool guy, and the selections are not bad. All these years I don't think I've ever bought anything new there cus' it's kinda expensive...I've always brought my old CDs/DVDs/VHS (yes! they take VHS tapes!), AND old Laserdiscs (shit, remember those?) to trade for credit. Although I do love Amoeba, the folks there are usually overstocked so they tend to not take that much trade-ins; Lovell's however, does take pretty much everything I've brought in! Here's a great tip when you bring your stuff to trade...make sure you give it to the owner (he's a tall lanky gentleman with salt & pepper hair) and NOT the younger "hipsters" who work there. The owner is obviously the kind of guy who truly enjoys going through your stash; you can actually tell he goes through your stuff meticulously and sometimes even makes comments about your collection; I've always gotten the vibe from him that he truly appreciates you bringing in your stuff to trade (for cash or credit) cus' he himself is a diehard collector. And he's the guy who pretty much takes everything whereas the "hipsters" take one passing glance at your stash and then makes some random decision and usually take only 30% of it. One time after getting a pass on my stuff, I dutifully waited about an hour (walking around uptown Whittier) and returned to see the owner back from his lunch break and I put the same stuff on the counter and lo an behold, he took it all! Lovell's actually has a pretty decent selection of used dvds, and their $1 and under bargain bin of CDs actually has some great gems; I once found a handful of amazing soundtracks in the bargain bin and they went for a buck each, SCORE! read more

Horrible buy/trade value. I thought Amoeba was bad until I came here. $8 for 5 items, four of which were out of print vinyl. Never, ever bring anything here unless you want $1. I'm so pissed off with this place I have one of those Lovell's cards I filled it up with my 10 punches & the old man did not want to homer his $10.00 off discount & it's not expired I have 6 months to complete the card. The old man must be getting senile because he said I fill it up & on my next visit I get my 10 dollars off & that's never happened before. Wtf I mean who promote something & who in there right mind herd of anything like that ok people we got this promotion deal going on but u have to fill up ur card go home with a fully stamped card like wtf & on ur Next visit we take off the $10.00 that don't even make any sense??? They have rearranged everything since I started going in 2008. The cds have made there way to the back of the store and the vinyls are right up front as you walk in. I love this place. I've gotten so many records and cds here. They also carry a ton of used dvd and blu ray movies at such a good price. The vinyls are priced well also. I've never seen a record priced for more then it should be. The staff is amazing and they'll help you find whatever it is you're looking for even if they have to order it online for you. A great shop. You should hit it up if you are in the area. read more

I grew up in Whittier and can honestly say that Lovell's has not changes much since I last passed through those front doors 15 years ago. The same guy with gray hair still works behind the register! A great place to score some LPs or Indies. read more

This place is the real deal. There are very few good indy record stores in this world left but Lovells is no question one of them. There are very few places where you can walk into and walk out with the new Adele, something rare from Neil Young and an original pressing of Pet Sounds. That's Lovells. The staff is friendly and knowledgable which usually leads to more suggestions and items on the wish list. They are a little pricer and Amazon but hey, you pay it to support small businesses. Love this place. When i enter i am always greeted at the door. They always have great music playing. The dvd and record bargain areas always have me in there going through them for a long time finding little $1 gems for my collection. Even the new records selection is awesome. The posters are awesome. My boyfriend got me one of the super huge ones for my bday for only $15. Its just a great fun place to stop into for music lovers. read more

Great place to find gently used cds, records and dvds. Priced very reasonable. They even have a budget section which has even cheaper deals.

Giving it 5 stars cause of their CD selection, they also have vinyls which is a plus. They also have posters for sale if you like that kinda stuff. Another plus which is kinda awesome is that they are located in uptown Whittier, bars and restaurants everywhere. Only minus which I'm big on is that they have a small selection on vinyls. read more
