Lovely Bride DC was the first and only bridal shop I visited. My first appointment was the day it opened as my mom happened to be in town (about 10 months prior to my wedding). The shop itself is absolutely "lovely" - very tasteful decorations and a quiet, calming atmosphere. Because they run things by appointment (it's easy to set one up online), you get incredibly personalized service and a comfortable, extra large dressing room. I had my mom and one of my bridesmaids with me and they were able to sit in the cozy lounge and wait for me to come out to show them the various options. My mom, bridesmaid and I were also able to look through the dresses to see what we liked and what I wanted to try. My stylist also helped pick out some options that fit the style I had in mind and also my budget. The last dress I tried on was a bit of an afterthought... I ended up loving it. I decided to think about it for a few more weeks, but ultimately went back to Lovely and purchased it (without visiting any other shops). The fact that they allow you to take photos is great, particularly if you don't make up your mind the day of your appointment. Julia and the rest of the stylists were wonderful to work with - they were all incredibly nice and patient and had a good sense of what I was looking for after a few minutes of talking with them. I never felt rushed to wrap things up or pressured to make a decision. They are also great about sticking with your budget, which you provide ahead of time. I agree with some of the other reviewers who said the shop doesn't have a lot of "bling"/super formal dresses. They do have a beautiful selection of dresses in a variety of price ranges and from a number of great designers. After I ordered my dress but before it was ready, my maid of honor was in town visiting - Julia was wonderful and said we could stop by the shop and I could try the sample on again. As it turns out, my dress ended up being ready for pickup when she was in town, so she got to see me in my actual dress. Julia spent a good chunk of time with us on the pick-up day, as well - making sure everything was correct and that I was comfortable with the dress. As a quick side note, Lovely does not do alterations, but does have a relationship with a great studio in Dupont Circle (Green and Blue) - I ended up going there for alterations and was very happy with the result. I couldn't have been happier with the personalized service (from my first visit to my pick-up appointment), style, and overall atmosphere of Lovely Bride DC. This is a lovely (aptly-named!) little boutique. I enjoyed the consultant I was working with, Jessica, because she was low-energy and down-to-business, like me. She did not pressure or annoy me, but just tried to genuinely be helpful. I hate it when consultants are so phony about wanting to hear all of your wedding details as they stuff your ass into some tulle. I'm like "Hello, I'm naked, can I please not talk about catering-- lets get this sh*t DONE." And she was very on board with that. I tried on lots of beautiful dresses, some of which were in my price range and some just over, but Jessica did not attempt to hide that from me. I also got the sense pretty much right away that she understood what I wanted and what would look good on me. Ultimately, I found one that I really like and I'm not sure if it's "the one" yet or not, and Jessica was totally cool with that. The store was nice, but I will agree with another reviewer that some of the (I'm guessing more popular) dresses are quite badly worn. The one I liked the best was dingy and grey, with holes in the tulle from being tried on so much. A few of them had makeup stains and huge rips in the seams that inhibited even being able to get them on properly, which did take away from the experience a bit. Perhaps some newer samples, or even some repairing or a good cleaning, could return some of the luster. Really nice experience overall, though. read more

Came in for an accessories appointment after purchasing my gown at Lovely in NYC (before this location opened) The girls here are great! Julia is wonderful and so sweet offering up great advice and lots of suggestions. They didn't have a ton of accessories to offer but I was able to find earrings that worked great with my dress. Lovely is just the bridal salon DC needed. Their selection of dresses is beautiful and at a great price point. Lovely Bride was my first stop for bridal gown shopping! I was so excited to visit this quaint Georgetown boutique. After walking up some steep stairs, ring the door bell and you will be luke warmly welcomed into the store. You soon forget that horrible first impression they just made because the store is laid out beautifully; racks of dresses and tables of accessories surround you - it's adorable! We were greeted by a young woman who would be assisting us. We were the only appointment that date/time slot so I was counting on a personalized experience. We had a rocky start, she was admittedly hung over and gave off a vibe of annoyance with our general excitement. I understand she does this all the time but when you hit that kind of burnout in this industry it's probably a good thing for everyone if you move on. I was determined to have a good day, my friends drove far distances to enjoy this with me so I worked hard to cater to her personality and in the end we got along just fine. She could care less about me but she loved talking about herself. That's not the experience I expected but it's okay. My Mom arrived a little late and rang the door bell several times. The bell rings in the office, so we didn't hear it but the girl working in the back came out ready to fight and grumbled about the person excessively ringing the door bell. So rude. Plus side - they let you take photographs here. We have a comical slide show of the Lovely Bride employee "helping" me, sitting on a chair drinking water (she offered no one in my party water) and yawning in her sloppy hung over outfit for the day. In the end I didn't find a dress I liked here. I had fun because my friends were with me but this isn't something you're going to do but a few times in your life, it should be a much improved experience from what took place here at Lovely Bride. I didn't find a dress at LB but I think that worked out for the best because they don't do alterations and I would like that to be all under the same shop. Also, depending on your price point, while they advertise the dresses start at $1500 they really don't have any under $2500 that you will want to try on so keep that in mind. After going to 5 other wedding dress shops in the DMV, I can say, without a doubt, that this was the BEST one by far. First of all, the store itself is lovely. The dressing areas are large, and the big mirrors are by a huge window overlooking Wisconsin Ave, which has great natural light (very key in getting an accurate impression of the dresses). They also carry a great selection of dresses, including many from Watters, which is my personal favorite. The girls there are so nice and helpful. During my first visit, I tried on a lot of dresses that were close but not quite it. I never once felt pressured into buying something I wasn't 100% in love with (unlike many other places that were like "oh it's closer enough you'll get used to it"). The owner Julia, who is just the *sweetest*, got in touch with me, and after many emails back and forth with my super OCD criteria, she had me come back for trunk show she thought I'd like, where I actually did find exactly what I was looking for! Score! There was a bit of heartbreak when it turned out my perfect dress was actually $1000 more than she had originally quoted me because the price tags got switched on a couple items. I cannot say enough amazing things about Lovely Bride DC! I first came to this shop a few months ago with two of my bridesmaids and tried on several different dresses, one of which I fell head over heels in love with. I should have known then, but wanted to make absolutely sure it was the one before committing. They were completely understanding and I felt no pressure or guilt walking out without purchasing a dress. They encouraged me to make a follow-up appointment whenever I felt ready. Fast forward three months, having gone to six more boutiques (!!!) and trying on what felt like hundreds of dresses, I still couldn't get the dress from Lovely Bride out of my mind. It was the one to beat and it was turning out to be unbeatable. I was able to make an appointment for Lovely Bride this weekend during one of their trunk shows for the designer of the dress I loved. I was greeted by the same consultant I had from my first appointment, Tabby. She remembered me and one of my bridesmaids immediately! I know that doesn't seem that important but it really added to the intimate and personal vibe of the entire experience. Not to mention that Tabby is also just amazing all around. At both appointments she was patient with me, sooo excited for me, honest, and willing to listen to all concerns and questions I had. She also ran around and brought me accessories for me to wear to envision the full look. I felt completely comfortable with her, like she was an old friend. She's really the best!! Suffice it to say, I said yes to the dress at the trunk show appointment today! And because it was a trunk show, I was able to get 10% off. The dresses there are so beautiful and unique, the boutique is comfortable and spacious, the ladies working there truly know their stuff, and I really felt a genuine sense of excitement from the consultants for their brides. Lovely Bride was the first store I visited on my quest for a dress. We arrived about 15 minutes early and they actually turned us away. We re-arrived and were taken to a private showing room. My stylist Shannon was cute and bubbly. I told her what I was looking for and she walked me through the store showing me my options. I guess I didn't do my research before going because none of the designers or options really wowed me. I was looking for something form fitting with sparkle and they really have a bunch of vintage feeling hippy dresses. That being said I found a few worth trying on. Dress after dress was okay but just not the wow factor I was looking for. I eventually found one that was great but it had zero sparkle. They brought a belt for me to add and the dress started to come together for me. By the time I saw the price tags however, I was not impressed. I was looking to spend around $2K, but many of the dresses are well over 3. The dress I liked had no design elements to it at all and it was over $3k. Plus the belt which was another $600 and the sparkly veil, I would have been WELL over my initial budget. You really are paying for the designers name, not the dress design at Lovely Bride. Maybe that's what some people want but honestly I was just looking for a wow dress, I could care less who the actual designer was. Knowing I had two other appointments that day I left with my favorite in mind, but as soon as I went to my second appointment it was quickly forgotten. I loved my experience at Lovely Bride. We started a little late, but the assistants were very sweet and helpful. I felt no pressure to buy a dress, which was nice since this was my first store. While I didn't go home with a dress the first time, there's a good chance I'll go back again. This is not the store for the girl looking for the super blinged out dress. They have a wonderful selection of lace, preppy or romantic dresses, which was just my style. I would highly recommend for the girl looking for a simple or more subdued dress. read more

I had such a great experience here today! My mom booked an appointment easily online and we came in on a beautiful Sunday at 11am. The studio is amazing! Tons of natural light and a perfect layout. We met Jade, who was fabulous. Poor her, I walked in with little idea of what I wanted or what I was talking about. She quickly got my vision and we went out on the floor. This place has quality pieces, not 1000 different dresses that nobody is filtering. I am greatful that the selection wasn't overwhelming or I would have freaked out. We picked out 8-10 dresses and I ended up loving three and realllly loving one. Jade didn't pressure me or push the purchase on me which I really appreciated. There was also a trunk show going on. I had a very mixed experience here. First of all, for anyone who is sensitive to scent, be aware that the shop has an overwhelming powdery/sweet smell. My sister has sensory issues and she almost left the store because she felt an impending migraine. My mother commented on it and disliked it as well. I found it permeated my hair and lasted for a day through a shampoo. When I told my sales associate that my budget was around $1,500, or more for the right dress, her face fell and she seemed to be dialing it in for the rest of the appointment. It clearly was not the budget she was hoping for. She emphasized to me that it would be very difficult to accommodate that. Lo and behold, I was able to try on many, many dresses at our around my price point. I had done my research and knew what brands were within my price range at this boutique. At the end of the appointment, we felt rushed out, even though it was not yet an hour and no one else was in the store. We had some time to look through the racks, but I would have liked more. All this said, I did find my dress here. I chose to order it from a different retailer because of the lackluster customer service experience I had here. This place is amazing! I visited yesterday morning with one of my best friends, after looking at dresses a couple of times at bigger stores (RK Bridal in NYC, BHLDN in DC, David's Bridal in Maryland). The store is not large but is light, airy, and chic, with lots of beautiful dresses. Shannon, the store manager, assisted me. I let her know what silhouette, fabric, neckline, and color that I was looking for in a wedding dress, and we pulled around 6 dresses together (all Watters and Nicole Miller) for me to try on. She was also able to offer great advice on how the dresses would look when altered for my height (I am petite). At the end of the consultation, I was torn between two incredible Watters dresses that were pretty different (one was an ethereal lacy A-line, the other a stunning beaded sheath) and couldn't make a decision. This boutique is a cute little shop in Georgetown, however, the consultant I had worked with made my visit hard to bear. I brought a few more ladies into my appointment than what is allowed (I had 6 but they only allow 4), but they were accommodating and still had plenty of room for everyone. The consultant I worked with was cold and unenthusiastic which made my experience feel like giving up on finding my dress. I was referred to them by my first dress consultation with high expectations but everything just fell flat to the point where I felt like I had to hold in tears because of how I was treated. I would give them just 1 star but the dresses they had were beautiful and I don't want to discourage other brides from viewing their selection. I would just be wary of the attitudes that the consultants may have. Being said, even if I found a gown that I loved there, I will not be returning due to the underwhelming experience that I had there. read more

Lovely held a $99 sample sale from "4pm to 8pm" on Monday. I'm sure it was a complete freak show but I never got to see it. Sometime around 6, they closed the store and put A SIGN ON THE DOOR announcing they were "sold out." No tweet, no email to people who had RSVP'd, and of course they weren't answering the phone. We didn't find out about your sale by looking at the door, so why would we want to find out that it ended early that way? Pretty sh*tty business practice. I previously actually made an appointment to try on dresses here. It was a Wednesday evening and the sales associates were fairly rude about the fact that I brought my fiancé. Excuse me! I'm not interested in Lovely employees shoving their rigid ideas about weddings down my throat. Besides, it was a Wednesday, who else did they think was going to come? Lovely Bride was my third and finale stop on my wedding dress journey. Like others noted, the shop is beautiful. It felt very serene and calm which is extremely needed for someone embarking on the frantic stressful task of finding a dress. The store definitely does cater to higher budgets however my consultant asked my budget prior to pulling dresses (for those lower budget ladies, I'm raising my hand here!, they do have a smaller selection of gowns in the 1500-2000 range. Their dress selection process was super helpful; my consultant not only pulled dresses for me after asking me my preferred styles but watched what I and my posse pulled. I ended up buying a dress they incorporated elements from my two favorite dresses that she picked. She also talked to me about what parts I was looking to highlight or downplay and suggested undergarments. The only downside was their initial welcoming was a bit awkward. They don't have a front desk and so we weren't initially greeted. You have an appointment so they know you are coming! I'd recommend warm greetings to every customer...People are about to drop a lot in your store! read more

Talk about awesome!!! I loved every step of my experience here. Ashley was a wonderful help! As a short petite bride that looks 16 it's hard to find a store or a person that really gets what I'm going for with my dress. This was not the case at Lovely, Ashley was similar to my size so she was able to point me in the right direction. I love the selection of dresses, albeit small it was the right selection. Overall I would just suggest they expand the amount of dresses they carry. Everything you see on the floor is what they have. There is no backroom stock or other dresses they will pull out. That is it! Parking was not as bad as I expected but I also went on a Sunday when less parking restrictions exist in the city. Overall it's worth a try. Also there are several other dress shops on both sides of this street so if you want to hit multiple stores I would suggest planning that in advance. read more

From the exposed brick and decor to the beautiful display of bridal gowns, I didn't want to leave after my hour was up. I was assisted by the lovely Aleska, who was professional, patient and just overall amazing! I went to a few other shops afterwards, but none match the selection and experience I had at Lovely. My consultant Tabby was rude and just seemed annoyed. She did not seem to care at all about me or my dress search. There was no small talk at all in the dressing room... not one question about my wedding, engagement, fiancée. I know that's not a given, but it was only my 2nd time trying on dresses and I was already nervous as is. The whole appointment was uncomfortable (almost awkward) and it really put a damper on the rest of my day and wedding dress shopping experience. I loved their dresses and thought about going back to see a different consultant, but decided I would rather not give them my business. Lovely Bride was my first every bridal dress experience! I was positive I made an appointment, but they did not have my name on the schedule. They were super accommodating even though they didn't see the appointment from their end, and assured me if was okay and that they were happy to take me! While I had fun, I thought it could have been better. Since it was my first experience, I didn't really know what to do or what really to look for. The attendant just followed me around while my family sat awkwardly also not knowing what to do. I started pulling some dresses, and she finally encouraged my family to do the same if they wanted. They have beautiful dresses, but none that I loved. I also told her what I liked/disliked, and she continued to pull dresses with details that I explicitly said I did not like, even after trying a few on with those details that confirmed my dislike. Also, the dresses didn't appear to be in great condition. Yes, I know that hundreds of people try them on, but there were rips, makeup caked on them, etc. that could have been taken care of. I had a very disappointing experience at my Lovely Bride DC appointment last week. My consultant Erin was just plain rude and I could tell she didn't care about me or my dress search. Prior to my appointment, I had selected 7 dresses online to try on but she said several of them were not available.... so I ended up only trying on 5 dresses... I felt incredibly rushed and uncomfortable the whole time. There was no friendly small talk/banter (and I tried to initiate it) and I felt so uncomfortable being in just panties in front of her in the dressing room. A consultant's attitude really makes or breaks your opinion of a boutique and even if I had found a dress I liked (which I didn't) I would not have bought from them. Also, the salon itself was dirty. There were giant dust bunnies all around on the floor... seems silly to force people to wash their hands upon arrival but not keep your store clean. read more

I tried on probably 40 dresses at 5 different boutiques, but came back to Lovely three times-- including one last-minute visit where I ended up finding my dress. The girls were thoughtful, friendly, and accommodating-- after a frustrating day without any luck at various other boutiques, I called Lovely at 9am Sunday morning, near tears, asking if they could fit me in. I went in later that day, still panicking, and the consultant suggested she look around and bring me something unlike what I'd been trying on; I ended up choosing what she suggested and it was totally perfect and under budget! Anyway, Lovely is not the least expensive boutique, but they have dresses in a wide price range and many varied styles. It's a beautiful shop carefully curated with unique, quality designers dresses that you won't find anywhere else in the Virginia, DC, Maryland area. Making an appointment was a breeze (more places should offer online booking!) and we never had trouble finding parking for our entire entourage. Although I was skeptical, the one hour appointment actually was the perfect amount of time to hone in on the dress I was looking for without being too overwhelmed with options. Over a period of ten months and a few visits, Danielle and her team worked tirelessly to find me the gown of my dreams. My vision and wedding plans changed a lot over that time period -- but the staff's patience and commitment to make sure I walked away happy never did. I'm hesitant to even bother with a review. After reading your responses to other negative reviews I see you give absolutely no credence to your customers sad experiences. In each response you threw the blame back at the customer. We are profoundly disappointed with the dress you delivered. The sample dress my daughter tried on in your shop was a better fit and the material hung differently. You delivered a product that is in no way wearable as it is. We were told we should take it to a tailor you have a relationship with. Your sales associate said that your tailor knows how to work with your dresses. I asked what we could expect your tailor to charge and we were told between $500 and $700 dollars for the "fitting". That's outrageous!!!! No longer trusting you, we took the dress to a tailor who came highly recommended from a trusted source. The product you delivered required extensive alterations. From you, we got nothing more than a $3500 off the rack dress in the wrong size. read more

No one seemed really interested in us being there for our appointment. Our consultant was nice enough, but generally came off like she decided before the appt began that we wouldn't be buying a dress. She came off like a know-it-all and generally disinterested in my dress shopping experience and basically kept time the entire appointment ("we have time for this many dresses" and with every dress I tried on, or back on, it felt so uncomfortable because she kept reminding me we were running out of time -- we had another appointment after so it's not like we were taking our good-ol' time -- it was just weird). It was drastically different from the amazing experience we had just before this appt, across the street at Carine's (where I ended up buying my dress) where the vibe was much more inviting, the consultant seemed genuinely interested, and she had great recommendations. This bridal salon is absolute perfection. I found 'Lovely Bride' online while searching for a shop that carries designers like Sarah Seven and Ivy & Aster. I stumbled upon it and realized that they were opening a shop in DC! I immediately made an appointment and I'm so glad that I did. The store itself is beautiful. The decorations and overall atmosphere are, well, lovely. The women who work there are so friendly and helpful. I had my appointment with Julia, who showed me all of their stunning dresses and helped me select a few. After trying them on and showing my friends, I was in love with three of them. Julia suggested that I take a few days to think about it and come back the next week. I scheduled another appointment and came back to try on those three dresses specifically. Again, Julia couldn't have been more sweet and helpful. I ultimately chose a beautiful Nicole Miller dress and bought it on the spot. The store carries a wide range of designers and options to suit a variety of styles, as well as a wide range of budgets. I bought my dress for about $1,400. There were dresses below that price and some that were well above. I can't rave about this bridal salon enough! It's 100% worth making an appointment! read more

Horrible experience. First appt dress shopping and unfortunately, it has made me dread booking anymore elsewhere. The consultant presumed she knew many things, including my budget and offered very little help. Their dresses are very lovely, not too costly, but I would take my money elsewhere. read more

Lovely Bride DC was extremely helpful in my wedding dress shopping adventure. They have an excellent selection of dresses that I browsed through ahead of time. I had a list of 10 dresses I wanted to try on and they had ALL of them. My stylist was polite and helpful in the process, asked a lot of probing questions, and allowed me to gush to her about what I loved or hated about a dress. She also didn't push me on anything. I tried on dresses here this weekend - it was truly an unpleasant experience. To start, the sample dresses were dirty and mangled. There were enormous holes in all the top tulle layers of every dress I tried on, and the hems were filthy. It was so bad that I asked the woman helping me if a dress was ivory or white and she told me it was probably white, but just looked ivory because it was that dirty. The real low point for me came at the beginning of the appointment. We were a few minutes late -- I called the store and let them know I'd be running 5-10 minutes late, which they said was no problem. 9 minutes later, they called me back to get an ETA, explaining that since they closed at 5 and my appointment was supposed to start at 4, "they'd *try* to make it work." Now, I am not expecting a store to stay open for me, especially when I am the one who is running late. But I do expect that a retail establishment will be understanding, especially when dealing with Georgetown traffic; will be accommodating and just start the appointment when I arrive (even if you do close 45 minutes later), and that I won't get a call from the store checking for updates. The attitude I perceived from the staff was impatience and annoyance -- not exactly the customer service experience that I am looking for with a $1000 + purchase. To top it all off, the woman helping us barely brought me any dresses to try on. I found an initial 4 that I thought I might like. Then when I asked her to bring me a couple different styles to try on, she just told me that they didn't have anything else like what I was looking for and she couldn't think of anything in the whole store that she could recommend. It mostly felt like she just wanted us to get out of there as quickly as she could get us out. A very disappointing experience - I will not be back and would not recommend this place for any brides-to-be. read more

I really enjoyed my experience at Lovely Bride. My mom and I visited last October when I was dress shopping and I felt like a princess the whole time. The consultant (Danielle) was very patient since it was my first stop for dresses. She let me try on a variety of dresses and also pulled a few that were VERY close to what I was looking for. Make sure when you go to Lovely, you are the color of the dresses. Stood their for 20 minutes, waiting to be greeted. No one came over to say "Hello, we will be with you in one second". Nothing. It's such a turn off when you have a budget of $5K upwards. We didn't want to leave without saying anything so when I stopped a woman and told her to cancel our appointment because no one greeted us, it was a turn off. She is "Ooohhhhh it's a busy Saturday but ok. We are finishing a transaction. and I love your glasses". Seeing only 2 associates with clients, 3 women stocking dresses and another lady coming out of the office. It took all of them to complete the sell. So I guess the compliment for my glasses was suppose to soften the blow of them not providing the the raving customer service that we read about. It was truly a sad experience. read more

Lovely Bride really is a lovely place. I loved the setup and the dressing rooms were sizable, so much natural light! The online appointment systems is awesome. My sales girl was helpful and never pushy, and was great about taking pictures for me. However, the selection of dresses wasn't quite formal enough for what I was looking for (no ballgowns or bling here). I did try on a few gorgeous Watters dresses but they felt more appropriate for a beach or garden venue. If that's the kind of wedding you are having then you should absolutely make an appointment here. read more
