Needless to say, we chose Emily to do our cake and cupcakes for our wedding. Emily made 200+ cupcakes and a gluten free two tier wedding cake for our big day. All of our guests raved about the desserts. The gluten free cake was absolutely delicious and moist. Our favorite cake flavor is champagne. The hit of the cupcakes was the s'mores. We absolutely loved working with Emily. She is just as sweet as her cakes! From start to finish, Emily was fun, professional and easy to work with. She made a huge, beautiful cake for our wedding from a picture we took out of a magazine. It was very important to my fiance's grandma (who's a huge foodie) that the cake had all natural ingredients and so she wanted me to ask Emily all about EXACTLY how she was making the cake. I was so impressed because Emily emailed me this very nice and detailed note of how she does everything and what it's made from and so on and so forth. I imagine it took a bit of time on her part but my husband's grandma was very happy and impressed. Maybe it's just because it was my wedding, but I never remember a cake tasting so good before. Actually, when I got back to work after our honeymoon, that's the first thing people at work were asking about---"who made your cake, it was too die for!". So, needing a reminder of how it tasted, we decided not to wait the year to eat the top tier and broke it out of the freezer early. It was amazing, honestly. I got married in September of 2012, and was very impressed with the cake Emily made for us. Emily was very nice and easy to work with. We first met Emily in the summer of 2011 for a cake tasting. I had two tastings with other bakers before meeting with Emily. Her website made it easy to see what she offered and it was easy to schedule a tasting. We were able to pick four flavors to try, two of which I chose from the website and the other two she whipped up for us based on my explanation. The tastings were delicious so it was an easy decision to pick her as our baker. I provided a picture of what I wanted my cake to look like and she replicated it perfectly! My cake was one of the coolest things about my wedding, and although I was too busy to eat a slice of the cake I heard it was very tasty by everyone. I was excited to order a cake for my daughter's birthday from Lovely Layers. I called several months in advance and spoke with a woman who wasn't very nice on the phone and didn't seem interested in taking on any new orders. She told me that they were not doing custom cakes But could still help me with some cookies and a regular cake. She also mentioned that I would have to wait in line and they're normally very crowded. Despite how rude she was on the phone I still drove all the way over there. There was no line and the lady at the front told me that she could not help me whatsoever. didn't offer to do a regular cake like the lady on the phone or anything to be helpful or kind. She raised her eyebrows at me when I didn't immediately leave and was very unprofessional. I will not be recommending lovely layers to any of my friends or family and I will not come back. read more

Emily was a joy to work with - when I couldn't decide between the chocolate ganache and chocolate silk fillings she suggested "lets do some of each". My husband and I first met Emily at a wedding, where she had delivered one of her beautiful cakes. As wedding videographers, we have since seen many cakes that Emily has created at other weddings, bridal shows, etc. I am always impressed. Because we are wedding "vendors," we have tried many different cakes from other bakeries and nothing compares to Emily's creations at Lovely Layers! This week I asked Emily, with little notice, to create some goodies for my husband's birthday. I told her he loved chocolate and Star Trek and really didn't give her much to go on. When I picked up my order yesterday, I was so impressed with how awesome everything looked. I wasn't sure how she was going to incorporate the Star Trek theme since I hadn't ordered a cake but she nailed it with the cupcakes I had ordered! That was enough for me. When the goodies got home, we were even more surprised when we took a bite of the cookies we had ordered. They were a huge hit. Next up where the cupcakes... they were to die for! I have to be honest and say that this review is solely based on their customer service and not on the quality or taste of their work (in fact I never even got to taste their cakes). I wanted a specialty cake for a birthday party that happened to be around Valentine's day. They ask for 7 days notice for specialty cakes but knowing that bakeries are often busy that time of year I went in on January 30. I spoke the woman who was there about the sizes, flavors, the design I wanted, and price points she told me all my options and I asked her when I would need to make a final decision by and place the order. She told me that I would have to do it before the end of business day on the 2nd and they would be able to make that specific cake by the weekend of th 14th. On February 2nd I went in having made a final decision and ready to place an order. When I told them when I needed it they said "nope." I was baffled because I had previously been told to come in on that date. I tried to explain what I had been told but the person helping said they couldn't do it and that the woman who had been there on Saturday wasn't there any longer. The entire time she was very short and, quite frankly, rude. I wish I could have reviewed them based on their work because it seems quite good but they have lost me as a customer. read more

This place is great! Emily really saved us during our wedding planning. Two weeks before our wedding, our prior baker cancelled on us and we were without cake! I read the reviews on yelp and went into see Emily. She was great and able to make 85 cupcakes of 7 different flavors (including a giant cupcake for the cake cutting part) and deliver and set them up at our venue for a great price. Plus, the cupcakes were delicious! Everyone commented on them and it turned out great. Plus, the display she set up was really cute and matched our wedding theme.
