I love this place. The food is great. The space is family friendly. My only gripe is the cashier. I've probably been there 20+ times and literally every time this guy acts like he hates being there. He's rude, he's curt, he's dismissive, and acts like the customers are inconveniencing him or interrupting what he would rather be doing. At first I chalked it up to a bad day but I soon realized it doesn't matter the day or the time. Dude is just flat out mean. I'm not expecting white glove hand holding here; it's a burger joint. Worth the wait!!! The food is so good, my coworker got the Drive Thru burger I believe and he said it was really good, I had the chii hot dog, chili cheese fries and side of onion rings. The chili hotdog definitely hit the spot! The chili is so good and feel like they really made it in the kitchen unless some places where they get it in a can. I fell in love with smash style burgers when I lived in Chicago and I've been trying to find a good burger in the Bay Area since moving here. Let me tell ya, Lovely's burgers taste like the real deal. The patties are thin and perfectly caramelized with crispy edges. The cheese come out nice and gooey. Toppings are fresh and the bun is light, acting as a perfect vehicle to deliver juicy beef to your mouth. I would also recommend the onion rings which are battered and fried nicely. read more

Lovely's not so lovely :( Food seriously lacks flavor. $23: double chili burger + fries + tartar sauce double chili burger: patties were nice and thin but any bites of pure patty simply had no flavor. not even a touch of salt. chili was ok. it had nice beefy flavor to it but aside from that nothing else. no kick, no sweet, no smoke, just very boring. comes with thick cuts of jalapeno which somehow also had little to no kick to it??? Basically a bland burger all in all; not sure how that's possible. fries: fries remind me of in-n-out fries but a cut above. nothing to write home about. one thing to note, i think i got unlucky and got the last remainders of the batch because 3/4 of my fries were half an inch long. tartar sauce: only including this bit because the tartar sauce had the most flavor out of everything i ate here and no that is not an exaggeration. Delicious burgers, but get here early. Lovely's serves up a classic burger stand burger with stick-to-your-ribs chili fries, and options for pescatarians and vegetarians as well. If you get here around 5PM, you can grab your burger and fries with no wait, but if you decided to dillydally until 7PM, you can expect a long, long line. I had a new friend who was having they're going away party at Lovely's, which was the first time I had gone. The biggest downside was parking -- there are parking garages but I personally don't like them -- totally my problem. There is a lot of street parking but it is in a very bustling area so we had to drive around for 15 minutes until we did find parking. The inside bar area has a really nice loft and the bar is quite long. The outside patio was the big draw though, which is also where the food is. I got the chicken sandwich and fries while my friend got a fish sandwich and both were phenomenal. I heard that the hot chicken is VERY hot thought. Been rocking with this since it was a pop up at Eli's. The burgers and fries are good but the throughput of the overall operation needs improvement. Come through no line on a cold ass weekday and wait 30 mins for food is unacceptable. Prices are kinda high too. 2 fries and 2 single cheeseburgers will run you damn near $40. Overall it's a good place to meet up with friends, bring kids and have some beers and burgers but if you're hungry, you could get 80% of the way there by just hitting in-n-out. If you got time, this is a good spot but if you wanna save some dough, get a six pack of beer and hit the in-n-out drive-thru. read more

The environment and simple menu are the reasons to come here. Beautiful outdoor space that usually has a space open just in time - even on busy days. Also attached to brewery next door so you can always sit in the warehouse style building to get a drink and enjoy your food. Burgers are nicely flavored and sides are always a good few bites. Portions are more bar meal sized, so if you're very hungry this won't be a filling final meal for the night. In summary: always tasty but I never specifically remember the flavors, so take that for what it's worth. Great space for groups, families, after work snacks and drinks, and dogs. The SF Chronicle included Lovely's in their recent "Best Burgers of the East Bay" article. Burger is not my "go to" food, but people ask me about restaurants all the time so I thought I'd check it out. And I'm glad I did. The burger is cooked to order legit. No charbroiled, later microwaved fast food microwaved monstrosity. Comes grass fed beef or vegan. Bun is nice and soft, paper wrapped to hold it together and get your mouth around it. Works for me. Even better, the fried chicken thigh sando. Chicken was juicy and well seasoned. Onion Rings, Fries are both legit. Crispy, light, oil was fresh. Shares their space with Two Pitchers Brewing Company so you can enjoy a beer if that's your thing. Big outdoor picnic space with lights - kid friendly. Awesome vibes. Note - your food will be cooked to order - this takes time, and this place is popular, so be prepared to chill out with friends while you wait. read more

The bun was squishy and the shaved griddled onions were perfection. This is not a fancy burger. There's other burgers on the menu for that. I hate to say it but I think I'm done with this place! Long gone are the days at the Lodge when the drive thru burger was Oakland's best kept secret for a cheap and solid burger. Since those days, I've been back four times at the new location, and stood in that long ass uncomfortable line. Each time, I pray that service has improved. That the line moves faster. That the person at the cashier doesn't act rude. That they don't disappear when you're supposed to come back and pick up your soft serve. That the food actually tastes good. It's good if they get your order right. The first time was great. The service, food, everything. The second time the woman that rang us up was rude and messed up our order. What a neighborhood gem! Located in the beer garden at Two Pitchers Brewery, you'll notice a long line in front of a shipping container turned Lovely's! The wait is worth it. I got chili fries with my burger, and both were so yummy. The chili had a nice weighty goodness smothered all over delicious fries. The burger was nostalgic of great, standard, diner burger with a deliciously seasoned patty. This was our experience. Tips: Tip#1 Don't come hungry. There's a line, it took me about an hour during the dinner rush around 7pm. Tip#2 Parking is scarce, plan ahead. Drop someone off and go park. Tip#3 Try everything, don't ask what the staple is, be experimental. Also. They literally have a burger named the original. That's the staple. Tip#4 There's dogs, I love dogs, but if your dog isn't well trained or behaves poorly amongst other dogs, please don't bring your dog and have It start fights with calm dogs or continuously bark while people are trying to chill. It's annoying. On to the food. The Burger 4 out of 5, mostly because I wanted more meat. Next time I'll have a double and probably wish there was less meat. Lol The spicy chicken sando, 4 out of 5. I only give it a 4 because the spicy flavor is a little strong. Not the spice level, the flavor of the spice. The chili cheese fries, 5 out of 5. Only thing I wish was that I had ordered more fries. IMO best chicken sandwich in Oakland. I have waited an hr in line for one of those bad boys over the weekend and it was well worth the wait. Service is fast too so once you order it's not too long after that, that your food is brought out to you. It does have a busy time when the line gets long like after 5 Fri-Sat but if you get there earlier it's a lot better. If you do find yourself there during a busy time I recommend grabbing a refreshing beer/cider or having your friend grab one for you while you wait in line. The ambiance is very lighthearted with the string lights up and I also really like that people bring their children there. They have a kid friendly menu so it's cool to see other parents there kicking back and having a good time. read more

We waited 45 minutes and didn't move in line at all, because whoever was taking orders would walk away from the register between orders and stay away for 10 minutes each time. My Son Frankie loves this place and has been following Mikey (the owner) around to his pop up locations. Now that he has his own location permanently, we were in town and my son and daughter in-law were excited to take us there so we can enjoy the delicious food. He was right! The food was excellent! We ordered almost 1 of everything because I wanted to taste it all. Lol. My first bite was of the westerner burger. It was a WoW!! The crispy onion rings are literally the best I have ever had. OMG , crispy crunchy texture. We had the pleasure of meeting this nice entrepreneur! Mikey stopped by our table to say hello to us . He has such a warm and welcoming personality. These are simple and delicious burgers. I first had it when they were a pop up at Eli's and the quality is the same. The burgers are fatty and juicy. I like the simple one with onions and cheese. But they have expanded their menu and have a lot of different options for everyone. There is sometimes a long line, but they move pretty quickly. The impossible drive thru burger is pretty exceptional and few places offer + prepare it the way Lovely's does it. The price of admission, however, is brutal. You can expect a long line, rude staff and long wait times for your food. You also need to be in the right mindset to be there. There's usually a lot going on and you know that you'll be putting in TIME to leave with a to-go order. I noticed that they charged us $1 (for the cup) to get a small chilli to-go which is crazy. And just before this, when we asked if we could get a small chilli to-go, the guy taking our order follows up with "... so I'm assuming you want chilli then". Sheesh! As others mention they charge a CC processing fee which seems odd... work that into your pricing as most ppl are going to be using CC. I can walk to Lovely's and my husband and I choose to go here maybe once every 6months. We used to go more often when they had the comedy show in the back but after a while we stopped waiting in line until just before they closed because wait times were an hour (to order). It looks like there's a bunch of new hires and more people making food so I'm confused why it's still taking as long as it is to order and receive our food. Add another cashier? It's mostly outdoor seating unless you get lucky and find something inside Two Pitcher's. With most nights being as cold as they are I'm surprised they haven't added any heat lamps. read more

I was going to go with 4 stars just due to the long line and the cole slaw that was "different" but that isn't really fair. The line shows you that the food is great and people are willing to wait in line for 45 min and then another 30 min to get your food. But it was really tasty and we had beers in our hands to tide us over. Just be mentally prepared and you will be fine! Note that they stop serving onion rings at 6.
