I stopped in here to shop for my baby, Stella my most amazing boxer. The owner was very friendly and helpful. I give him high stars even though he is a Trojan and I am a Bruin, which is a much superior type of fellow. Anyhow, I enjoyed my experience. He was funny and personable. He helped me pick a type of food that would not irritate my dogs skin - she gets itchy if the food is not of the highest quality. I also purchased a handful of bully sticks - the non smelly kind. Weird things these bully sticks, but Stella's loves them. The store was a bit sparse, but it seemed to be filled with quality merchandise. I'll be back. read more

A little while ago I adopted a pit mix from the shelter and was having a hard time finding a good food for her because she had so many allergies. I went into Loves and met with the owner Larry and his employee Erik and they both were so helpful. They walked me through the different brands and proteins that would possibly work for her. They had so many options to choose from, from grain free dry to raw and freeze dried raw. I was also very thankful for all the SAMPLES of foods I was given since my rescue tended to be picky. Needless to say I got her on an amazing food and all her skin/digestion issues cleared up. I am so thankful for all their help. I was in there today. I am not a regular customer but I could be as I live in Calabasas. When I walked in I was not greeted by the owner or his employee. In fact, neither one even looked up or said, "Can I help you?" I normally would have walked out but was in need of organic dog food and was in the area. After searching for a few minutes, with no offer of help I saw a regular customer come in. She was greeted and asked about her dog, joked, around with the owner and the employee and basically given the royal treatment. I picked up the super heavy bag of dog food and was looking for some treats for my dog. The owner saw me struggling with the bag yet neglected to offer me help. I did not ask him, but hey, isn't he supposed to ask me? Isn't that his job? I went to the counter to pay. The employee rang me up for nearly $43 without speaking a word to me. Finally, at the end of the transaction, he handed me a receipt and asked, "Do you need help out?" Really? Because I didn't just walk with this bag right in front of both of you for ten minutes. I am all for supporting small businesses, but not when they have major attitudes. read more

This is a locally owned small business. After getting a new puppy I stopped in to Love's and the owner spent significant time with me sorting out a diet for the little guy. I walked in fairly educated about my choices, and the shop keeper confirmed my thoughts and expanded on them in some detail. We discussed raw versus dehydrated versus dry food and ways to give the puppy a complete diet without breaking the bank. I appreciated the amount of time he spent with me, and although he had a sale to gain I truly believe he was trying to provide the best information possible. Love's also had a coupon for a free first visit to Westlake Village Animal Hospital and Dr. Slaton. We used that discount and were quite impressed by this vet and his office. Yes, this pet store is small, but they carry a decent selection of quality products, offer good advice, and you are supporting a local business. (And a visit to Love's is a good excuse to go to the best deli in the area, Italia, just next door!!!) read more

I went in here just to browse since it is near my dentist (I do not live in the area). I was looking at the Kong balls and thinking of getting one for my dog. I told the guy working there that I had tried a ball that you stuff treats in but my dog had chewed it up and I was looking for something more durable. He recommended the Kong ball. When I took it home and opened it I realized that you can't put treats in it at all because it has holes on either side. I went on the Kong website and it said this product is for bouncing and chewing. This pet store is an hour away from my apartment so bringing it back would not be worth it but this situation is so irritating. The staff at this pet store are definitely not knowledgeable about the products they sell! read more

Cons: As a first time dog owner, when I came in to buy food for my pup, I also asked for advice on training, etc. The advice I was given?... sell them the puppy and they'd resell it for me. Um. No thanks. I've seen other full breed dogs for sale in there, presumably from backyard breeders. Gross. Pros: The selection of natural foods is fairly large, given the size of the store. ANYONE who would say that the owner or his staff has no customer service skills must just be one of those "impossible to please" people! I have been going here for years! I bought my beautiful Tortie Point Persian "Lu Lu" here 3 years ago and had done extensive research first. I found out that Love's Pets had persian kittens from a local breeder with a great reputation! Not only is my cat gorgeous! She has the BEST personality and has never had any health issues. I almost picked out a different kitten and was indecisive because they were all so cute, and Larry the owner took a lot of time helping me and suggested the female due to her sweet loving nature. I really wanted a persian for their docile nature and he was right. She is the most loungy, loving and laid back and very regal as well cat I've ever had. The reason for this review is because I have never had any issues with them and I'm not a huge yelper, unless I feel it noteworthy. So here's the deal... I went in this past Friday and not only did Eric the manager help me immediately (and not because I'm a regular) I usually only see Larry when I'm there, but I was trying to remember a certain brand of dog food Larry had given me samples of, and Eric knew every brand they carry off top of his head and named them all off patiently and I just could not remember. Anyway, the point of this review is that I bought some bird seed and cat food and had paid. Then I saw Larry and asked him about which kind of dematting comb was best for my cat and Eric went over and grabbed one that he recommended so after he went over why I should get this one and how the comb could be adjusted and so forth, I agreed to try and paid with a separate transaction, thanked them both and left. Next day I noticed that I was charged on the comb the wrong amount, and did not assume anything. I called the store and spoke with Eric. He was extremely nice and I could here how busy it was in the background and said give him a few minutes so he could pull it up and he would call me in the next thirty minutes. He called me back less than five minutes, had already spoken to Larry and my card was credited over the phone without the hassle of having to drive back over. EVERYONE makes a mistake now and then, and me being in the restaurant biz for over 25 years have endured RUTHLESS reviews for the most innocent mistakes. It would be more professional for a person who is unhappy or if there was a mistake, to speak to the owner/manager first and at least give them the benefit of the doubt before writing a public review that is their opinion rather than take the appropriate steps before lashing out! People take these reviews seriously. Stop taking anger out on small local businesses when you have no knowledge except one isolated incident and be kind! I'm sorry but I have too much personal experience with unworthy bad reviews it really ticks me off when I see them on a business I KNOW that is 100% inaccurate! Bottom Line: This is a well known local small business with a great rep and following! The bad yelps won't change that, but it just goes to show that there are 2 types of people in the world. One's who give grace for human error and the others that are like wolves waiting to tear you apart!!!! Be kind to people! I visited Love's Pets after my neighbor recommended it for natural dog chews. I'm really happy that they stock the larger sized chews that I normally have to order online. I also found a great natural calming supplement that worked really well for our 55lb dog. The prices are higher than the big chain pretty stores, but I prefer to shop local when I can. I went in to buy a specific brand of pet food because my dog was recently diagnosed with cancer. Although the owner did not have the specific brand (which is understandable, as it is an obscure brand), he kindly recommended a comparable brand and even gave me a free sample to try before buying. This place has it all. I just recently moved to Agoura after my company decided to open a restaurant in the area (Cronies Sports Grill), and needed to find a place to purchase high quality dog food, as well as other pet supplies. I was sold the second I walked in. First I was greeted by a beautiful golden retriever and then I was greeted by Larry the owner. Great guy. I read some of the other reviews that remarked about his sense of humor and I personally disagree with their take on it. He Can be sarcastic but I am not one to be easily offended, especially from sarcasm. Regardless though, I enjoyed the offerings the store provided and will continue to go back. Not really ideal place for reptile owners. A dozen crickets are almost $4 and every time I purchased them the bulk of them looked skinny and were dead. I tried to return the 2 dozen dead ones I purchased for live ones and the owner said it was from leaving them in the bag too long which is not true since they were only in it for the car ride home. Owner wasnt very easy going about exchanging them for me and it didn't leave me with a good impression of this place. read more

Our friend received an email about kittens available, so we went to look. We were told they were kittens from the owner's daughter's cat. Why was the cat not fixed? "Oh it was an accident, she plans to." We were told they had been handled and kept indoors. We bought two, and on the way out the door after we paid, the guy told us he had seen fleas on one and we should watch for it and have her checked for worms if we saw them. Sure enough, they both had fleas and worms. We were also told that the vet they recommended would give us free first visits, but she only gave us one for the two cats, we had to pay for the second. So all in, $400+ later (after paying Love's Pets!), with shots, flea checks, medicine, vet visit, we treated the cats that were supposedly kept clean and indoors. They also sold us food that isn't rated for kittens. I love my new kittens but will never shop at Love's Pets again and will tell everyone I know not to shop there. I read other reviews and saw two or three about being lied to about their dogs being from puppy mills. Anything for a buck, that's the way of Love's Pets. Get your kittens from a legitimate rescue or shelter, those people are sincere about their efforts for kitties instead of turning and churning. Boo Loves Pets. Clean up your act. read more

owner of a chocolate lab, Raised him up on cheap well known kibble realized his coat and skin had some dryness and problems went to the vent was given shampoo and moisturizer nothing worked, i did some research of local pet stores found loves pets went into the store with my lab to show his condition and explained my case, the owner Larry including employes are very knowledgeable and told me a quote i will never forget "you are what you eat" since the food i was giving my lab was poor quality it was the cause of the skin irritation, he suggested to try a better quality food with more natural meat like freeze dried and Grain Free kibble after about two weeks my lab had an amazing coat no more itchy dry skin i was astonished i brought my lab back in to show the effects and it was like night and day how much better and HEALTHY he looked If it wasn't for loves pets my lab would still have dry skin and dull coat, WOW! the amount of knowledge they all have at LOVES PETS shows from the years in business this is a Professional but local and friendly store If you care about your animals and pets i would recommend this store read more
