This is for sure a hidden gem. I am not vegan, but I love trying new foods and i love the health benefits from eating vegan. This place is located inside the mall right in front of Target. The staff here are super friendly and are willing to answer any of your questions. The first time I came here I ordered the Saigon rolls- its basically a spring roll with soy based shrimp and let me tell you it really does taste like shrimp, I also loved the dipping sauce it came with, it was creamy without tasting like mayonnaise. This is an appetizer so the portion is small but filling. The second time i came here I ordered the Sunny Melt - this is essentially a tofu salad on bread. it was super creamy and tasted very gourmet. Let me start by telling you, I'm a meat eater. If you know what eating "Paleo" is, then you know I eat a lot of grass-fed, organic, free-range, etc....meat. This place has THE BEST BURGER I've ever had. I have had every variation here, but my absolute favorite is the Patty Melt. OMF'n Goodness...I drive to the mall and go through the parking nightmare just to get this sandwich. EVERYTHING I have ever gotten here is AMAZING. I keep saying that I want to go eat at Cheesecake Factory or Buca di Beppo, but I can't tear myself away from this place! They have the new Vietnamese "Frubean Frost" things...I get the Tropical one and it is SO good...lychee, dragon fruit, jelly stuff, coconut milk...very good. read more

This is by far my favorite Loving Hut, and I've been to the one in Palo Alto, SF, both locations in SD, one in Alhambra (or somewhere in LA), Paris... I've been to a lot of Loving Huts. I mean, make trips to the mall just to eat here. Yes, this Loving Hut is located in Oakridge Mall, and it's NOT in the food court, it's directly across from the mall entrance to Target. Don't let their location fool you, the food is legit amazing. The best part about it is that, in addition to the standard Loving Hut Vietnamese fare, they've got amazing western dishes too. Of course, their pho is delicious. But veggie pho is not so hard to find in the Bay Area. The Great Debate that I always have when I come here is: patty melt or tuna melt. They're both phenomenal. The patty melt consists of a gardein patty, daiya cheese, Loving Hut's own super-yummy special sauce, lettuce, and tomato, all melty and sandwiched between perfectly buttered and grilled bread. It is heavenly. Their tuna melt is the same, but with a veggie tuna rather than the gardein. Usually, I'm not a big fan of daiya. It's great as a melt-able vegan cheese, but it has this flavor (a good flavor, mind you) that can be rather overpowering, However, it serves as the perfect cheesy accent to both these sandwiches. Basically, I'm always trying to decide between a patty melt and a tuna melt, and the solution is to get both and split half of each with my sister. And when it comes to the last bite, I literally can't decide. Each time I pop my final morsel of sandwichy goodness into my mouth, I immediately miss the other sandwich. I'm being completely serious. Everything else on the menu is tasty as well, including the bun hue, eggplant, all their veggie meats, their curry, all their burgers.... Forget favorite Loving Hut. This place is DELICIOUS! I've been to many of the other Loving Huts and some serve similar dishes, but they are each unique in some way. The best thing about this place, is that they have vegan brunch food! I love brunch food, and have struggled to find vegetarian brunch food south of san francisco. I'm pretty sure this is the only one.. and if I'm wrong, please send me a message and tell me where to go! My sister and I went shopping at Oakridge on Black Friday. We went to Loving Hut intending to get a small bite to hold us over until lunch, but we ended up ordering the pho, grilled ocean sandwich, breakfast club muffin and tofu scramble just between us two. Needless to say, lunch afterwards was unnecessary. The pho was delicious, grilled ocean sandwich had wonderful bread, fresh veggies and was great with the chicken patties in place of the tuna (the method suggested to me, though I will definitely try teh tuna next time). But most impressive was probably the breakfast club muffin.. way better than the McDonald's muffins I missed so much as a vegetarian. The sandwich consists of a hefty English muffin stuffed wtih this fried tofu egg-like thing (delicious!), tofurkey sundried tomato sausage and soy cheese. It satisfied all of my brunch cravings, as did the tofu scramble. I definitely recommend teh pink nectar and the chocolate cakes as well.. which are probably the best vegan cakes I've had. The only thing slightly unfortunate is that they are in the mall, so I will have to tackle parking to get the delicious breakfast sandwich. Anyhow, everything we ordered was delicious and affordable. This place has been around for who knows how long and I never had the inclination to try it out. My friend and I were feeling especially healthy one night and decided to stop by here shortly for a vegetarian dinner. I took some time looking at the menu not knowing what exactly to order. After glancing at the menu, I decided it would be safest to order the rainbow salad. My friend got a harvest salad. I didn't want to try any of the dishes with imitation meat in them... that would be horribly too strange for me. For example, I wouldn't touch any of the veggie burgers or even the fabulous pho. Pho and burgers are meant to be eaten with real meat. I had finally realized many of the dishes were Vietnamese or Southeast Asian inspired. It was not too busy at the time and we got our salads quickly, as they didn't have to do much cooking per say. I liked the salad a lot, it made me feel healthy and happy at the same time. I already knew going in that I didn't want to eat anything heavy that night and this was perfect. The beverages look great but I wonder how sweet they are...maybe too sweet for my taste. I'll have to try one next time. The taste and texture of the salad reminded me of something I might have eaten in Vietnam. They gave me ngoc cham (as a salad dressing) and crushed peanuts which are essential in a salad like this. Although I still think this place is a little pricey considering you're paying for a vegan/veg. meal. I know the expensive retail mall location may have something to do with that. While "being one with the earth" during my yoga practice at the Club One, I suddenly started visualizing myself eating a bowl of beefy pho. So to my surprise the Loving Hut was on the first page on Yelp when I typed in pho! Having been to 2 other Loving Hut locations and 4 other Supreme Master affiliated restaurants, I knew that pho would actually be a faux pho with meat replacements. I was starving, it was close, and probably healthier than traditional pho-so off I went. First off, I have never been to this mall. I discovered that the Loving Hut is close to but NOT in the food court. It is kinda between the Old Navy and Borders Bookstore and it is closer to the Target part of the mall. The restaurant is kinda small so you eat in the space in front of it. Again they are slightly away from the food court, so many people kinda stare at you, the food, and the restaurant. They have alot of veggie versions of American classics like tuna melts and burgers so I did see a lot of people initially interested in the pictures of the food who eventually walked away because they could not get their meat on. The pho I got was pretty good. There was some vegetabley thing that I think was supposed to represent the chewiness of tendons that was interesting. In addition, 1-2 pieces of faux beef, lots of tofu, and faux chicken. The broth was surprisingly flavorful and tastey to me. It was a bit peppery, which I like, and a little spicy, which I also like, but maybe too spicy for some. I was full, I was happy, and I did not eat 7 million calories post workout. As always service is excellent and friendly. I definitely will come back again after going to the gym. Next time I wanna try their thai iced tea which they thicken with soy milk. read more

Back about a year ago when this place just opened, the food was delicious. It's starting to slip though. They serve the noodle soups in these deep bowls with these stupid, idiotic, paper thin, tiny plastic spoons that can hardly hold a tablespoon of broth. The noodles were overcooked and thus soggy. The Pho broth didn't taste of star anise at all, which is sort of crucial for Pho. I'll still eat here, but only because of it's convenient location and it being the only good vegetarian place in the area. read more

Loving Hut is the first and only place I've ever eaten vegan food. I'm not a Vegan and I definitely do not care to be a Vegan. My friend introduced the Loving Hut over a year ago and I was VERY skeptical. I couldn't imagine how vegan spaghetti, pho, spring rolls, and egg rolls would taste like (I was expecting more of "no-taste" tofu type of texture on all their food). Well let me tell you, I've tried every dish I mentioned and everything was excellent. The price is cheap and they give you plenty of food. I love coming here for lunch (it's a little out of the way if you aren't a frequent visitor of the Oakridge Mall). They have everything from vegan burgers & fries, vegan tuna melt, burrito, curry rice, chow mien, fried rice, and a variety of drinks and desserts. I haven't tried everything on their menu but I can't imagine why anything would taste bad here. WARNING: This is not a sit down restaurant. This is more of a place you would find in a food court. This Loving Hut at the Oakridge Mall is not in the food court, it's located towards the back of the mall, opposite of the food court, close to Target. I love this place so, so much. As in: it's the place I want to go on my birthday, even though it's casual and doesn't give me an excuse to dress up. As in: it's the first place I want to go when I come home and the last place I want to go before I leave again. I've been a vegetarian since I was 6 years old, and a vegan for the last year and a half. So, the fact that it's a vegan chain in a mall in and of itself makes me love it. But the food is actually pretty great. No - to me, it's really great. It's my ultimate, ultimate comfort food. The Patty Melt is my favorite thing on the menu, so much so that I haven't REALLY tried much else. But my mother, a vegetarian, often gets the Chow Mein, and we both love that, too. Their fresh lemonade and other drinks are also delicious. True, the fries they tend to serve with the American-style sandwiches aren't amazing. They're likely taken from a bag frozen and put into the oven. But it doesn't matter. They're still fries, and they're merely there to support the main dish. Again - the Patty Melt, etc. The Patty Melt...I remember what cheese tastes like, and I can't believe this isn't it. This dish is, for now, literally my favorite dish in the world. I'm rambling, because I'm food drunk. I had Loving Hut tonight and I want it again. Unfortunately, I'm moving to San Diego on the 17th to finish college. I won't be able to visit this branch for months. Fortunately, there's a Loving Hut in San Diego. The menu is different, but I'm sure I'll be able to find a "co-favorite". Pretty good place! Was shopping at the mall, bought a groupon, so decided to give it a try. I ordered the spicy royal noodle, Eggrolls, hibiscus tea, then had the pad Thai to go. I was VERY surprised at how the spicy royal noodles tasted. Broth had a traditions taste to it and tasty! Noodles were cooked well. Interesting "meat", but other than texture of the meat, taste was great overall! Pad Thai was good. Tasted more like a Vietnamese stir fried noodle versus pad Thai. Tofu and "shrimp" were in it. Shrimp was comparable to actual shrimp. Hibiscus tea was perfectly sweet and very refreshing. Would definitely come back to try something else!! read more

I have been vegetarian for 16+ years, and if you miss seafood as much as I do, you MUST check out the Saigon rolls (fake yam shrimp, rice noodles, pickled cabbage & carrots, lettuce, & mint - which I remove) & the Tuno Melt! I have no idea how they do it, but the fake tuna melt tastes exactly like a tunafish sandwich! It is wheat bread, lettuce, tomato, tunafish salad, vegan cheese & butter. All grilled to perfection. I have also had the fried rice combo & the satay bites, which were tasty little chicken nuggets. The workers have all been friendly, however the last time I was in they had just hired a new person who was also nice, but unprofessional. She was playing on her cell phone while I waited at the counter, and didn't look up while she asked if I was ready. I didn't mind so much until her phone rang while she was taking my order and she answered it, chatting while my credit card was being ran. She continued to talk loudly while the next person in line waited. I tried both Loving Hut here in the South Bay. I actually love the flavors they create for vegan/vegetarian dishes. It really good for a veggies places, its flavorful. Not plain and bland. You don't even notice the meat is missing in there dishes. I guess that's what I like about them, I don't even notice or care that there is no meat!!! No meat, No msg, Awesome Flavors!!! Price wise not that expensives for a veggies places. ***Definitely a place you must try!!!*** They also have a second location in Milpitas Square, that's a great place to sit down and eat. I don't like going to malls, but it's worth a trip to Oakridge Mall to eat at the Loving Hut. It's a food-court type area, extremely informal and again not my favorite environment. However, the food makes up for it. One of the sandwiches and a salad (or fries) makes an excellent filling meal; portions are generous. The traditional Asian dishes are very good too. After hearing my sister rave about this place for months, I finally got to try it and boy was I mad! 1. I should have tried it sooner; 2. I hate when my sister is right. Haha! I got the Eggplant & Tofu which was flavorful! The plate came with a generous serving of rice and a side of blanched veggies. My sister who frequents The Loving Hut ordered the Spicy Royal, a soup that was akin to lemongrass soup. My little brother (haha) ordered the fried rice combo and fried spring rolls. Both were a hit because my picky niece insisted on eating my brother's food instead of her carl's jr. The food was so delicious that it left me wondering if I could possibly be a vegetarian...ok fine that's a stretch, but during lent season, this was a godsend! Been wanting to try this place for a long time but boyfriend never wanted to. Finally persuaded him to try it out and it was really good! We have been back a few times since then. The Pho was really good! I don't miss the beef in my pho at all. The won ton soup broth was good but the won ton themselves were... interesting. They were very squishy and the seasoning is funky (for lack of a better word). My boyfriend really likes their curry. That's all he ever orders. The food is always nice and hot. So.. went to the mall (YUCK) to go see the new Rob Zombie movie...and because I arrived early I had time to do a twice around of the entire mall (I'm not a shopper, so I just people watched), anyhow, I was SO lucky to have that time to do a double take because as I was about to head over to the theatre early I saw a sign proclaiming "VEGAN CUISINE"!!!! My mind did a double take...a vegan restaraunt in a mall?! Is that possible?! And the answer....YES, it IS! A Loving Hut in a Westfield mall...who woulda thunk it?! I am REALLY bad about making decisions...especially at new restaraunts...I just want to try EVERYTHING! So, I pondered the menu for a bit, and decided to go with the Spicy Royal Soup and the Golden Nuggets. I think I made a decent first choice...being used to the typical Vegan Thai places in Los Angeles, I haven't been able to experience Vegan Pho and other soups...so trying something new was paramount. And the Golden Nuggets...well, I just can't resist any Chik'n nugget...anywhere. To being with, I was extremly impressed with the speed at which I received my food...I think I waited about 4 minutes! I don't think I have ever had a wait time less than 15 minutes at any vegan eatery...so this was something new an plesant! Next, I realized the amount of food I had received...being a voracious eater, I am rarely intimidated by any amount of food...but the amount of soup in my Spicy Royal Soup was overwhelming...in a good way!!!! So, I got underway, and everything was AMAZING. The soup was filled with too many good things to name and the nuggets were cooked to crispy perfection. For 14 dollars I got so much delicious food that I had to take half of it home with me....something I NEVER do! I am so happy that there is a vegan restaraunt in a mainstream mall...it would be amazing if they could make there way to the actual food court....so non-vegans would be more drawn to trying their delicious food! Okay okay okay okay okay okay okay okay. Loving hut has replaced the "1" speed dial in my phone, I switched my voice mail to "2" and my hubby to "3". DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED! We always get the tuno (yes, tuno aka faux tuna) melt, the satay bites (ask for extra dipping sauce) and the patty melt. The sandwiches used to come with fries, but now you have to order that separately. The drinks are great too, we always get the thai "milk" tea and the jasmine "milk" tea... BUT, ask for NO ice, only because you'll finish your drink so fast that there is only ice left over (or ask for 1 ice cube, idk!). I only wish hey had bigger portions. The drinks only come in one size, too. But hey, I'm only complaining because I love this joint! Can't get enough. For 2 drinks, 2 entrees, 1 app, it would be about $20 something. The hubs isn't vegetarian, not by a long shot. He's actually a meat-etarian. So for him to order and LOVE the patty melt says something. We both love this place. It's funny, he was saying 'No... this can't be fake! Well, at least the cheese tastes really good'. Sorry babes, hate to break it to you but it's SOY cheese :) What I usually do is, after class, I speed dial "1" and place my order so by the time I'm at oakridge (10 mins or less), my food is waiting. The also have the menu online (just make sure to enter the location of the LH because they have different food for each LH) or a paper menu for your taking. If you just order in person, it won't take that long. Maybe about 5 minutes. Love, love, love. If you're wondering, this place is asian-y. I'm glad they put a veggie fast food place here. I love this restaurant. I like how this location is quick and has a limited menu of popular items. At their sit down restaurant in Milpitas their menu is vast and has many tasty options to choose from. I have tried their chow mein, spring rolls, pho and other items which are all vegan and all delicious. It is a little strange eating their "meat" from here because it looks so real unlike other places I have been too. I especially like their Thai iced tea because instead of using half and half like other restaurants they use soy milk! Gotta LOVE the LOVING hut! The tofu eggplant was delicious. Tofu part was alright, but the eggplant is what's important and it was divine! I don't remember which curry I tried, but it had a little spice to it. It was pretty delicious as well! It's the Vietnamese-soupy type of curry, but served with rice rather than bread. The food is quite good, though not inexpensive. Our favorites are the "patty" melt and the royal noodles. There has been an ongoing issue, however, with the staff at the counter "interpreting" our orders. During our most recent visit, for example, I clearly stated to the young woman taking orders that we wanted the SMALL salad (in addition to a number of other items). I spoke slowly and clearly, articulating each word, as I am sensitive to the needs of people who are not native speakers of English. At the same time, I pointed to the "small" option on the picture menu. The receipt that we were handed at the time of making payment was not itemized, so it was very difficult to tell that the young woman had actually signed us up for a LARGE salad - at a higher price, of course. It was only when our trays were ready for pick-up that this became apparent. By that time, it didn't seem worth making an issue of it. Maybe that's the strategy? Usually, the patty melt sandwich is cut in two, which makes it easy for us to share. This time, it was not cut. I asked for a plastic knife to cut it myself. A young man at the counter said that they no longer offered plastic knives and suggest that I cut it myself using a small plastic fork (!). Yeah, right. That would have worked really well. One star off for jacking up the cost of our order and another star off for not helping me cut the sandwich. Service matters. read more
