Kind and quick smog check. It's a very little place in the Mobile gas station, so if someone is already getting their car checked you'll have to wait for them, but it's not a long wait. The owner has a nice little sitting area for you and is kind. He sent the paperwork to the DMV and I was able to register my car that same night. I called twice, once to find out the price and another to see if the wait was long since I was in a hurry to get to work. Both times the same attendant answered and was super nice. Went there this afternoon for a smog check. John was really professional, kind, quick, and efficient. While waiting there are a bunch of magazines available to read to help pass the time. There's nothing to write home about this place. Nothing that sticks out. I admit Phuc "John" was courteous and got me in/out of there quick. When I got there and asked the price, he said $50, which seemed high. Others here post that you get an out the door price of $40 (with smog cert & fees), which is misleading. Especially since there are several other smog test shops around. When I questioned him about the invoice (pic posted) he thought I was confused. By then he had already started working on my car so it was too late to take off. I won't be going back. A friend told me to go to Abel & Son's down the street, but it was too late. read more

I went to get my Audi smog checked on 05/18/21, my other visits at John's Low Price Test were in 2017 and 2019, both times Passed. Nothing has changed with my car, I am the original owner since 2003 and the car is completely stock, no modifications. So it was a surprise after waiting about 20 minutes, John asked if I had my other smog checks from him in my car, and I said No. He explained that although I passed the diagnostic (OBD) test, he would not pass the visual inspection! I asked him why and he said his STATE reference manual said I have 4 catalytic converters and he could only visually see the 2 from the top down through the top of the engine compartment. Firstly, I was under the impression vehicles only had 1 catalytic converter, but John was explaining that based on the label on my car, I had 2 plus 2 (4). I later found out from my mechanic that my car has 4, 2 pre-catalytic converters (the 2 that John showed me from the engine compartment) and another 2 downstream on the exhaust pipe (under the car). It is these 2 that John said he couldn't visually see under my car, that's why he wouldn't pass me. I then asked him to explain to me how it was that he passed me (even the visual) two times before. I told him I've been coming to him for about 6 years, which he said "I doubt it". He said its possible he made a mistake, but instead of trying to explain to me why or how I passed twice before, or the fact that he couldn't see the other 2 converters, he became extremely rude and temperamental towards me. I asked him why he was getting so belligerent and rude towards me, a return customer. He just completely went "off the reservation" and lost it, and got even angrier towards me. All this while I remained calm, trying to ask him the questions of how and why he passed my car the other two times. He explained he only goes by what the State manual says. I don't know what set him off, perhaps he doesn't like have to explain things to customers, or he needed a cigarette break. I was just completely stunned, an "owner" who was treating a customer this way. He was like Jekyll and Hyde compared to my other two visits. There was no excuse for this. He explained he wasn't going to Pass or Fail me, but I would need to go somewhere that had a lift so they can see under my car. I told him I would never return to his Test Station again, not because he couldn't see under my car, but because of his attitude towards a customer. You don't treat a customer in this way. Maybe he's never heard of the three P's for good customer service: Professionalism, Patience, and People-first attitude. He lost a good customer because of his temper tantrum, I have 2 cars, plus the recanting of my word of mouth recommendations to others. No excuse for this. The next day, I went to another Test Station in Fullerton, same price, and he didn't need a lift to see the converters under my car. The technician simply used an extension mirror and flashlight, and I PASSED. This place in Fullerton is where I will be going from now on. I think John was either just lazy that day and didn't want to scoot under my car, or like I said needed that cigarette. And by the way, all the reviews that say "He's great, he gave me a bottle of water", he gave me a bottle water too. That isn't great customer service, that's just a nice gesture. His level of customer interaction is very limited, seriously, he deals with vehicles, not customers, except to hand over your keys, fill out paperwork, and give you water. Even so, he should know better that customers drive his business. But I won't be one of those customers any more. read more

I looked a few places on yelp that had all 5 stars and when I called to inquire about pricing it was about $10 more than what I had read about, and an additional fee for the cert. I found Low Price Test Only and he gave me an out the door price for $40! I forgot the gentleman's name but he was very cool. He shook my had upon meeting, which i appreciate, and began working on my vehicle. I must admit, I was a bit skeptical in going there, but after getting my car done, I don't think I'll take it anywhere else now. There was a bit of a wait as there were two cars ahead of me, but the guy was pretty fast; he told me it'd be about a 20 to 25 minute wait, and he was right on target with that assessment. He is very quick and efficient and the price was lower than I've paid in the past by $20. He is a very nice guy and even gave the three of us waiting ice cold water while we waited. Can't beat that! My experience with this smog service was great - fast, efficient, affordable. I was in and out under 20 min. and only $50 for my older model car. The only reason I'm docking a star and also writing this review is to hopefully catch the attention of ownership: please do not allow your employees to smoke cigarettes while working on cars. I saw a technician with his head literally inside the open hood of a car with a cigarette hanging out of the side of his mouth. Besides being unprofessional, this seems to contradict common sense, especially considering how many highly explosive and flammable materials are in the vicinity (the shop has a gas station attached.) Ensure the safety of your employees, business and customers! read more

Found this place looking through reviews...lots of other places cost $40-$50+...this place is a no frills smog place on the side of the Chevron gas station...corner of imperial and valley view. This place you don't need a coupon or anything, flat $39.95 out the door and they send the certificate to DMV!!!! Guy is nice and took about 15 minutes. Also loved that they were open until 7 pm today (Friday)!!!! You can pay with a credit card, go inside the chevron to pay. Will definitely go back if I need another smog check! read more
