This Loews is huge. For some reason, I thought I was in Walmart. Anyway the store is giant. It has a large Carhartt dept, which I'm sure men would LOVE. I took a few pics. I wanted to get a cooking pan (cuz I thought I was at Walmart) a clerk looked the aisle up but I couldn't even find that aisle. I needed brake fluid and I only found other automotive fluids. I basically left and gps to Walmart. This store is giant and seemed to have a LOT of nice items. It had another name brand dept and a ton of holiday Memorial Day stuff. This is now the second time I've come into this specific store and NOT A SINGLE CASH REGISTER IS OPEN. Nope they expect you, the Customer, to work for them for free. I even called ahead to ensure that there was a cash register open. First I verified it was the Steele Creek location. The lady said no, it was on South Tryon. I told her the Steele Creek location Lowes IS on S. Tryon. She said they do not call the store that. Um, ok. But this side of town is Steele Creek and it's the only Lowes in Steele Creek. Anyway, I came in 1.5 hrs after calling ahead to make sure they had a cash register open. I picked up several things. I found a guy in an aisle and asked if they had horticultural charcoal for container gardening. He looked it up on his computer, and no they do not. I asked if they had rock for container gardening and yes they do and he walked me to it. About $6.50 for a small container. Next I picked up some red mulch and put it in my cart. I put in 2 bags when a guy walked up and asked if I needed help and I gladly accepted help on the other 2 bags being put into my cart. Here is where things go seriously awry : I go to the front to pay. I pass 3 employees shooting the breeze with each other in a group, and NOT A SINGLE CASH REGISTER IS OPEN. I asked a girl standing at the self scan location that was WATCHING CUSTOMERS SCAN THEIR OWN ITEMS AS IF THEY WORKED THERE if there were any cash registers open. She looked at me like I was nuts to think there would be such a thing and shook her head no. So then I go back to the group of employees standing around chatting... and the group has now grown to 4 employees shooting the breeze chatting away. I asked if there was a Manager around. Low and behold one of them is a Manager. I said that I even called ahead to make sure there was a cash register open so that I wouldn't waste my time and someone said there was a register open. I told them I'm going to stop coming there if there isn't a cash register open. He said the only register open is in the RETURNS AREA. They could ring me up there. I went there, but this area is not designed for carts. It is a roped area for people to navigate up to the counter standing in line behind each other. There was a guy already there returning something so I put my cart beside the counter and waited outside of the roped area. They are obviously trying to discourage people from using this area to check out since it is not designed for carts. Once it was my turn, I asked the lady if they are ever planning to have anyone at a cash register again and she said she didn't think so. I told her that I'm going to start shopping somewhere else then. This is absolutely ridiculous. Not a single person on a cash register. To anyone needing hardware supplies : Go To Blackhawk Hardware. I was there just 2 days ago. Not only did they have plenty of staff to help you in the aisles, they had PEOPLE AT CASH REGISTERS EVERYWHERE !!! Every entrance had people at cash registers. I came in to do a return, there was plenty of parking spots available. Super easy to make the return since I had my receipt. It took about 2 minutes if not less than that. He showed me the proper size I needed for the job at hand, as well as a pack of filers I didn't initially consider. Worst place to do a curbside pickup.. I called and they automatically put me on hold. Didn't said hold or hi. I called twice and both times same thing. I finally walk in to pick up my order. There's a line of returns and pickup wrapped around the corner. No clear directions on where or what we should do. There's two people working behind the counter. Finally it got to me. I went in looking for a floor protector. I found a rubber mat that I wanted but the person who worked in the flooring department was busy. A rep by James was walking by and spoke to me. I asked him if he could help me.. he told me he doesn't work in that department but he would try and see what he can do. I showed him the mat I wanted. James asked flooring guy what to do and took on the challenge of cutting the mat for me. I must say I had the best experience at Lowe's!! James was exceptional..and that's an understatement. He kept me entertained...had me laughing the whole time we went on this journey of trying to cut a rubber mat with no scissors and a dull blade. It took me a bit to find it, only because I refused at least three very friendly offers of help from the folks working here. I have been trying to have flowers delivered. But seem to be running into an issue with having that done. When I was talking to the store telling them what I wanted to do, I was placed on hold the first call I made because they were unable to transfer my call to the service desk. When I called back in I was placed on hold hearing that's the representative talk to customer then placed on hold on hold without any response. Then the call was answered only to told that any complaints or issues needed to done on line. Inventory system absolutely sucks. Was having flooding from the gutters into my garage. McMullen Creek location was out of stock of the corrugated pipe I need to channel the gutter water away from my house. I looked online and it said the S. Tryon St location had 25 units in stock. I drive 20 mins to the store only to find there were no units in stock. An employee in that department confirmed that they were out of stock after refusing to look. Then he went on the website and updated the website to confirm they were in fact out of stock. His words, "I did you a favor and updated the website for you." Are you kidding?? Today I see that the screen on my storm door has come loose, so I call Lowes again to see how to go about having this fixed since I purchased from Lowes and had a Lowes installation person install my door. I don't know what's up with this place. I try to support a NC company, but every time I come here, everyone looks freaking miserable. It's always understaffed, garden center has been closed when it should be open (aka, 9:30 in a Saturday morn). Worst experience ever. I have been trying to get my mothers door replaced since the first week of March. After several calls and waiting for 10-15 minutes to speak to an actual person, I was just able to pay for the installation last week. 30 days! So after all that, the installer shows up at my mothers house yesterday drunk, refused to install the door, returned all the materials to the store and refunded me my money without ever talking to me! Tried calling the store today and once again no one knows anything about my moms order. Tried calling Customer Service number off the website and waited on hold for 23 minutes before giving up and hanging up. Just to be clear, I am doing all I can to give Lowe's $1200 and they're doing all they can to let me know they don't want it! We had new vinyl flooring put in a laundry room and half bath. The communication between Lowe's and Service Pros, who does their installation is very poor. The house is vacant and under contract. We did not get over to see the floors until several days after installation. We came in to find a hole where the toilet was and the toilet in the garage. There was also no threshold between the laundry room and den. Apparently it was our responsibility to purchase a new wax ring for the toilet and a threshold. No one bothered to tell us that. So this was the state the house was in for the home inspection. I'm very disappointed and will not use Lowe's again. read more

I went in to get a quart of paint for some touch ups and there was one person ahead of us, plus the ONLY paint associate was on a call. When Glenda was finally available to help, I told her what was needed: 1 quart Sherwin Williams exterior paint. She walked oh-so-slowly to check stock. She walked back just as slowly to report that she didn't have it in the less expensive option, and asked if I would like the more expensive formula? Having no choice, I agreed, because honestly I had already invested about 10 minutes of my life waiting to get help. She slowly walked away again to get the product. And then strolled back at a leisurely pace to tell me --you guessed it! They didn't have that one in stock either! What?!! Glenda you literally just told me it was the ONLY one in stock. I swear this woman gets a kick out of being as slow and unhelpful as possible. I'm headed to an actual Sherwin Williams store. And after this frustrating experience, there's no where to go but up. read more

Although I have spent my Spring and early Summer doing nothing but landscaping and gardening, I have only been in this Lowes 2-3 times this year. I went one time in recent weeks since I had to be in the area for other business and I had only a couple items to pick up. When I entered the outdoor garden section there was no cashier in site. I headed to the back section where they have what I needed (Paver sand and square bricks). Once in the back of the area I noticed 2 employees talking while another drove a forklift. I stopped and waited while the driver maneuvered and the other two staffers watched him. They were engaged in conversation but I did not interrupt as it could easily have been about work, I could not hear. Once the walkway was clear I walked over to the bricks. It was curious that no one ever approached me while I shopped and loaded bricks onto my cart but I guess they didn't. Once I had everything that I needed I steered the cart to the front of the garden section and paid for my purchase. I left the store with no offer of assistance and once at my car loaded all of the sand and bricks into my car and left. I have been to other home improvement stores and even been to other Lowe's stores but this one is the close to my home. If you are in need of something that you cannot find elsewhere then this may be the place for you. If however, you are looking for service, try another store. read more

Today I came in after work to return some items and walking through I ask a worker (Walton) for help. I can't believe how he went out of his way to help me. I used to work for both Lowe's corporate and store side (as both an employee and a merchandiser) so I thought I've seen it all. I have lived about 14 places up the Interstate 77 corridor and have personally shopped at least 8 Lowe's in Charlotte (Mooresville, Huntersville, Troutman, Denver, Northlake, University, Uptown, and now South Tryon). I'm loyal to Lowe's. They were my first credit card in 1994 out of college. I have to say my experience at South Tryon last night at 8:30 was the worst. I had a flame sensor (thermocouple) go out in a propane heater last night. A similar part came up at Lowe's in Google Search. I go to their website and the part looks like it would match. The Lowe's app says it's in stock down the road. So I take the part in and as I approach Aisle 26 (where the website said it would be), I see nothing but lawn and garden flower pots. I take my phone to the guy in that department with my part and I literally don't even finish my sentence, "Nope, we don't have that." I showed him my phone and explained not once have you guys been out of a part that says in stock on the phone app. "Well, you have the wrong location." Look dumbass, see "Southwest Charlotte" at the top of the screen? That's the store YOU work at. "Nope sorry, don't have the part." Mr Lawn and Garden knows thermocouples now. So, confident that damn part is in the store I head over to electric. There's an old guy tinkering with some bins and I dread asking this guy for help even though this is his aisle. I show him the part, he immediately takes me to a bin (good start). He picks up a part that I can see 4 feet away is nowhere close to the part I just handed him. I let him have a conversation with himself while I go 3 feet up the aisle. Guess what? At least 10 of these EXACT match thermocouple parts running up the shelving. $18 and I'm out! I agree with another review... this store is understaffed, clueless and every one looks miserable waiting for 9pm. I recommend a few extra minutes to go to the Home Depot on South Blvd if you have actual questions that need a professional answer. read more

The group they outsourced to for my moms kitchen has disappeared in the wind and it is sitting here unfinished. Lots of promises, payments made, and no results. The cabinets were crocked and had to be redone, the countertops couldnt be leveled properly, the tiles we not even and are chipped, there are holes in the wall and no plumber to speak of. Walked in on Monday night to pay for the installation on a new storm door literally 20 minutes after speaking to the guy on the phone...get here and no one in the building can print an order form so I can take it to the register and pay. After waiting 15 minutes at the install desk with no help arriving I decided to try the customer service desk. Lovely little lady behind the desk tells me she can't help and doesn't know what I want her to do about trying to find someone to help me. I guess the "customer service" part of her job was really difficult to understand. It's not often I order items online to pickup at a store, but I was in a hurry and thought it would be quicker. Was I wrong! The line is the same for returns and online pickups, and only one associate was behind the counter with at least 7 customers waiting. Meanwhile, just a few feet away there was an employee standing at the entrance greeting customers.... well, not really. She was mostly just playing around on her cell phone. This was a quick trip for me, I just needed to have a key made. I won't lie I'm not a frequent hardware store shopping....only for the occasional spare key or a gift card for my dad who is obsessed with fixing things....you will rarely find me in here! However, that being said this was a very nice trip! The service was fast, the associate who made my key asked about my day and was very informative. I wanted Lowes to install tile and bull nose. They sent Service Pros in to install in October. They did such a bad job, sent another guy in from service pros to fix his mistakes. He told lowes that he replaced 30% of the bull nose. He replaced 3 tiles. The bull nose is falling off the wall. The tile is crooked, there is hairline fractures in one of the tiles. They were supposed to acid wash the tile when they were finished. It still has a chalky residue on it. They did not clean up after themselves. Needless to say I am not happy with the outcome and I keep getting the run around from Lowe's. read more
