The three main things I seek in a facial treatment are: luxurious relaxation; a lot of face massage; extractions. So I booked the 2 hour Dr Hauschka treatment with Kim and had one of the most ideal facials of my life. Kim was friendly but very professional and did not interfere with my relaxation with unnecessary chatter. Her massage pressure was ideal for me and she was communicative about pressure adjustment if I needed it. And the extractions were the most comfortable/least painful I've ever experienced! The product line felt and smelled wonderful as did the whole environment. I came out looking plumped, hydrated and wrinkle-free! Obviously if you are the restless type, this might be too long of a session for you, but if you like to luxuriate in a treatment and get the most out of it, then this is very worthwhile for what you spend. read more

We are in a big, beautiful and diverse world and the staff at these facilities must reflect that in order to make a space that is inclusive for all body types, gender identities, ages and races. I've never seen anyone working there who isn't young, thin, white and female. Deep veins of racism course through Portland's history. Whether you realize it or not, Loyly, you've made a very stark, white, minimalist space seem even whiter and I no longer feel comfortable exposing myself to that environment. read more

What an amazing experience! As an adult nearing what could be considered middle age, it might surprise some that until recently I had never had a real massage. And when I was having my first experience with back pain, it seemed like a great time to try it out. I decided to see if Loyly could help me relax and relieve some of the tension. I opted for a 45-minute massage with a birch rub (around an hour altogether). From the aromatherapy options, I chose a mix of eucalyptus and spruce, I think. You can also choose lavender. The massage therapist, Kim, was so kind, welcoming and easygoing. I felt completely at ease despite it being my first massage, and she was very accommodating and careful - working around or focusing on my specific pain as needed. Stopped in for my second visit today and I really enjoyed my time at the sauna. Book your visit online or call in ahead of time as the space is small and can only accommodate a limited amount of people. The attendants were very friendly and provided great customer service. For men, you will need to check the days that you want to visit to confirm that it isn't a women only day. There are co-ed days and only a small window on Sunday when it is men only. Bring your bathing suit! For my second visit I signed up for the monthly special which was $39, you can find it on their site or in their monthly newsletter. It was a great deal as it included the 2 hour access to the sauna space, a robe, cleansing tea, a facial mask, foot soak and bath salts for your final shower. If you vouch for the 2 hour access, it costs $23 and everything else is available a la carte style. Those charges add up quickly, and I feel like my second visit was much more enjoyable with the add-ons all bundled in to my visit (#TreatYoself) When you aren't sweating it out in the hot sauna or the steam sauna, you can enjoy soothing music while lounging in a neutral and minimal relaxation space. I intentionally do not do anything during my visit, but you can bring a book or they have some magazines for light reading to pass the time. I felt so refreshed after my visit. I booked this place for a group of girlfriends. The moment we stepped in we were treated in a rather rude tone by one of the front desk girls. When a group of women of color experience initial and ongoing rudeness, there is an inherent feeling of implicit bias and rather race toned behavior of white women superiority (regardless of their so called self liberal label). The facilities were fine but there needs to be staff training on how to work with cultural and diverse clientele rather than this off putting bad energy. This unfortunately is something women of color deal with too often in Portland. I dealt with it here at Loyly. I will not be returning and I encourage people of color to look elsewhere. read more

This place is pretty awesome. Very traditional, simple, and clean. The website is not current on pricing for 2hr basic service. (as of 4/6/15) It's now $26 not $23. I'm not a fan of the piece meal charges. Basic 2 hr visits do not include a robe, only a pefletti and a shower towel (which I didn't get - not sure if they were hidden or I had to ask for one - this wasn't a big deal for me). My only con - make the basic visit fee all-in. An additional $4 for tea and a $3 for a robe for a luxury service seems silly (its like being asked to buy the massage oil my therapist will use on my next visit). This place is a little calm gem in the heart of SPortland. I had come here once before to just use the spa services with a friend and loved my experience and felt it was rejuvenating. This second time I made the choice to get a massage, mini facial, and added on some spa time. My massage and facial was with Lyndsey and was honestly one of the most amazing ones I have ever received. I wish everyone could come here but secretly don't want them to know about it because it's that amazing. They are so helpful there and I loved how I felt walking out of the building, recharged and ready for a full week of work ahead. Since hurting my shoulder & going to PT, I've been on the look-out for ways to get moist heat to my arm. I miss our old gym & the steam room which was inside the locker room. I have been here twice & really enjoyed myself both times. It is very minimalist & modern - like what I might imagine a Scandinavian day spa might resemble. It is very quiet with soft music, discreet tiny white candles around, & some organic/budding branch like arrangements. Aesthetically it is so pleasing to the eye. Locker room is just that, with day lockers available, robes & towels + flip flops provided. There are hair dryers, Q-Tips, cotton swabs, all that good stuff. I got the lemon-spruce salt scrub & liked it a lot, tho' I can see where someone might look at the small scoop & think it wasn't much bang for the buck. I am of the belief that a little goes a long way, so it worked for me. The sauna & steam rooms are very simple & rather on the small side, tho' really nice and I thought the temperature was just right. I am not sure what the other reviewer means by a 'cold plunge'...there isn't one. There IS, however, a shower with cold water just outside the sauna room. A 'plunge' it is not. Had an impromptu massage today since someone canceled last minute. It was terrific! I got to choose 2 scents for my (included) aromatherapy, and it was lovely. Despite the fact that the cold weather has not set in just yet, I can see becoming a regular visitor here. I like Loyly a lot! I LOVE Loyly! Calming atmosphere, smells fantastic, quiet, not a health club or gym. And I love that there is a clean sauna and steam facility that doesn't contain a bacteria-ridden hot tub/jacuzzi. Loyly is super clean and comfortable. It is the best place to go after a trying day at work, and I really appreciate that they are open til 9pm. So relaxing, nice little affordable luxury. The facility is minimalistic, but has so many wonderful options and add-ons to achieve whatever kind of spa experience you prefer. The aromatherapy foot soaks, face masks and body salts allow you to self-pamper - like at home but better aromatherapy blends and products (Dr. Hauschka). Prepare to be nude or see bare flesh. Although totally up to you, the ritual around the classic sauna experience can be liberating. Of course suits are required on co-ed days but a great way to spend quiet time with your partner or with friends. Rebecca is an awesome massage therapist and who I definitely recommend and will see again. She is thorough and has the strength to withstand a 90 minute massage. I really enjoyed my time at Loyly. For $20, I spent 2 hours in and out of the dry sauna and steam sauna and cold dunk tub. For an extra $10 I got a facial mask, bath salts, and unlimited amounts of really delicious detox tea. I spent a glorious, unhurried, respectfully hushed 3 hours at Loyly yesterday as a birthday gift. I had a package of delights, but what I appreciated most (and what I'm going to come back for at least once a month) is the sauna time and the massage. I love grey skies and chilly weather- in winter I don't crave sun, but heat. Going to Loyly meant I had 2 hours of pure heat indulgence, both the hot and dry kind and a smaller steam room, with a lounge area and shower to cool off and take a break from the intensity of the saunas. I've been getting bodywork done for many years and yesterday had a near out-of-body experience during my massage. It was done almost entirely in silence, which was just what a wanted. I'd specified that I preferred deep-tissue, that my back and neck were riddled with stubborn knots, and she couldn't hurt me. With a professionalism and intuitive approach I've never had to this degree, she worked my muscles and body with thoroughness and intensity. That I could follow it up with more time in the dry and steam saunas was divine. As a part of my package I had an aromatic foot soak, herbal tea, fancy sparkling water, a facial mask, and scented scrubbing salts for my final shower. Of all of them, the salts ended up being my favorite, and probably what I would select for future visits from their a la carte menu. Like some others here, I was a bit wary of how I'd be treated after reading the reviews. I found the staff to be helpful without being gushy. Loyly is a much-welcome yang to the yin of a stereotypical women-centric manipedifacial kind of spa. I love that Loyly has co-ed days, but as my preference is to be able to steam and sauna nude, I'll stick to the women-only days. The ambiance is refreshingly neutral in a way- as others have noted, it is minimalist and tidy in a Nordic sense (which actually made the appreciated magazines a bit jolting, though again, appreciated). I would be wary of going when it could get busy as it is a rather intimate space, especially in the steam room. I'll stick to weekdays. I love that there's a place close to me where I can have just sauna- though I'll be including massage and the scrubbing salts on a regular basis. This is a fabulous experience. It's quiet, sparse and perfect for relaxation and mediation. There's a dry and steam sauna as well as a sitting area with benches for resting between. As a first-timer to the spa experience, I don't know if this is what I expected. You walk into a dim, sleek space with candles glowing and light music playing. First, let's start with the steam room. It was so hot in their my face felt like it was melting off. I didn't know any different, but someone I was with told me it normally isn't that hot. I also heard other women in the room complaining about how hot it was. There is a control but a sign hangs over it saying not to change the temperature. I will say that when I left I felt more bendy and cleansed. I just wish it were more pleasurable while I was experiencing it. The sauna is a little more bearable, but not by much. If you want to take mini breaks between melty-face time, there is a sitting area where some women read magazines, knitted or wrote in journals. It was pleasant, but I didn't know to bring anything with me. I know this would be pure bliss for others, but I don't know if I'm sold to go back. I did feel relaxed and sleepy upon leaving, which I liked. I think I just need to keep searching for the place that's right for me. My boyfriend bought me a package here for Valentine's Day last year. I had never been to a spa before, and it was a wonderful experience. I loved the sauna, and the crazy steam room. It was nice to cool down and eat chocolates! The rose kombucha was delicious! I had a massage as part of my package, and it was the one thing I was kinda disappointed with. The lady seemed not very friendly, and was incredibly rough and could see that she was hurting me, and I asked her to be more gentle. Then it was massage as usual, but as soon as my time was up, she was out the door. It just didn't feel very... I don't know... personable, or comforting. Just moved to PDX from Brooklyn, and the weather here has been getting to me. One of the places I miss in New York are all the Korean bath houses & spas. I really felt like I needed a good sweat and detox so I began googling around for such a place in Portland. I came across Loyly and I'm so glad I did! This place is uber relaxing, clean, friendly & quiet. I went on a Thursday afternoon during ladies only hours. I didn't make an appointment, but since it was the middle of the day there were just a few other women there. The receptionist did suggest I make an appointment in the future, just in case...Switched back & forth between the sauna, steam and cold showers. Drank their cleansing tea and soaked in as much relaxation as possible. I wouldn't suggest buying the $100 for 5 times card because I can't see how you'd want to spend more than one hour here. At least, I would get a headache if I spent too much time in the heat. I'll stick with the $15 for up to one hour, which is a steal. You can also go to their service area and purchase snacks, teas, masks, foot soaks etc. I'll definitely be going back, and you should try it out! read more

There is a service counter once you are in the spa that you can order treatments as well as tea and snacks if you need them. They also have some packages which include treatments and massage. I'm reviewing the facial that I got today. I did not use any other services, but I had a great experience. I've never gotten a facial before, but this was fantastic. I did an hour long one and Jimi did a great job! The massage table that you lay on is heated, and your neck and shoulders get a massage as well as all of the facial masks and oils they apply. Loyly is the place to put on the brakes and leave your worries behind. They have great packages...I usually go my wife and a friend or two...and we'll hang out and talk (ahem...quietly). If I have any small grumps, it's that the place frowns on even quiet conversation. I grew up hanging out in saunas that friends built...they were places to banter, joke, solve the world's problems and dunk your body in really cold water. Loyly is a very minimalist and simple urban retreat. The staff was very friendly and were eager to assist. I did the 'Fall add-on Special' which included a clay face mask, Sage foot bath, tea, and Rosemary scrubbing salts. All of the products were nice and did the job. The reason I rated it a 3 is because it is very stark. The only place to relax is on a wooden bench, whether inside the steam/sauna or in the common area. There is no way to really relax and get comfortable. This space is small. There were 4 of us in the steam room and it felt at capacity. The dry sauna is larger but there were people laying down, and with that it also was nearing capacity with 5 of us in there. There is also a sort of 'locker room' vibe here which I don't prefer for a spa-like environment. If I were to go back - I would want to book a service like massage or a facial to get the full experience. They should also find a way to add an onsen/spa which would increase my review ten fold, because that would add the element of lounging/relaxing that is missing here. This is a place to go if you want to have a no frills, DYI spa experience. read more
