I can't recommend this practice enough. I saw Dr. Jack after neglecting my dental health for several years, and I'm so happy with the level of care that he and DA Aquilah have provided. It was clear that they were aiming to deliver the highest quality of service possible throughout my visits. You should want to come here for their skill alone, but what elevated them for me is their friendliness and attention to my experience as a patient. I had always been someone that would dread going to the dentist, and I didn't look forward to the work I'd need to have done, but I have found my visits here to be surprisingly pleasant. Lincoln Park Smiles is the dental equivalent of a sleazy car salesman. Every visit is a high-pressure sales pitch for things you do not need! It's not about the quality of care, it's about driving up your bill. When you first visit they tell you that they work with all dental plans, only to find out that they aren't actually in any network and they charge way more than your insurance will pay. On top of that, every visit is a sales pitch to try and upsell you on services you don't need. For the last decade, I have always gotten three cleanings a year. I have a permanent retainer and I just feel better with extra cleaning. Yet, Lincoln Park Smiles was always pushing for more. When I pushed back saying I only wanted a cleaning, they told me they won't be dictated to and called me difficult. My partner who has an obsession with flossing multiple times a day was told he needed their upgraded cleaning. He refused and went back to his old dentist out of state, who said his teeth were perfect and normal cleanings were all he needed. I won't even get into the scheduling errors and rudeness of Stephen, the "Office Manager". STAY AWAY from this dental practice. read more

Want a practice that texts you racist things? You've come to right place. They sent me a racist text, and when I called them demanding to know who sent this and who was in charge, I was met with laughter, yelling and being told "there are no racists here." I visited Dr. Jack Manikowski 4 years ago after finding him on ZocDoc. He had falsely advertised being in-network. Then tried to charge me out of network pricing. They sent me bills after billing my insurance. ZocdDoc at the time was able to finally fix things. I was glad to never hear from them again. Yesterday, this practice- which does not have my written legal consent- sent me a text addressing me by name hyphenated with collections in all caps to "wish me a happy birthday." This was tacky, and furthermore violated TCPA laws. Granted, my response to the text was not the most eloquent, but this staff's response - a day later- was racist, repugnant and violated PHI and HIPAA laws by disclosing sensitive material over text without verifying my identity. As a medical practice- you should know better than this. Clearly, no one is going to take responsibility and apologize for the racist response your practice sent. Did you assume I'm Muslim because of my name? And thought it was okay to use the word "haram?" It is not. Shame on you. I'm going to do what's within my legal rights, I am going to file a HIPAA / PHI complaint with HHS, and a TCPA violation with the FCC. You can see photos attached which clearly shows their number. I used to be scared of the dentist. Yes, I'm an adult and I'm a wuss when it comes to going to the dentist. After trying to make an appointment at about 5 other dental offices, I found LPS to be extremely easy to book an appointment online. They also text you reminders of your appointment and it is an actual person that reponds back to you, not a robot! My first time going to the office it felt like I was walking into a 5 star hotel because I was greeted by an extremely professional gentleman named Steven. He was very professional and friendly. Even at the end of my visit, he walked me through what to expect next and how my insurance works. You can tell he's very sharp and it's great they have him there to answer questions for patients! I know it's hard to find gems like Steven because you find more long acrylic nail wearing receptionists that are on their phones who don't know what they're doing. I didn't wait very long to get seen. Usually some of the dental offices I've been to you have to wait 30 mins to an hour to get seen, even with an appointment. So I was really surprised how efficient this office is! Jackie is by far the best dental hygienist!! She was really funny and I did not feel any pain when I got my gums numbed for my deep cleaning session. She has great technique so you know you're in good hands! I was in and out of there so fast I was so surprised! Jackie is the absolute best! She also gave me a bunch of goodies (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, etc) before I left. I bet she hands out full size candy bars for Halloween seeing how generous she is! Carole was another dental hygienist that worked on my teeth as well and she is SUPER charismatic and funny as well. Avoid at all costs. I booked two separate appointments through their system, both for Monday mornings. After waiting outside for 2 hours I eventually left and rebooked an appointment. I then received a call informing me they were not open on Mondays, despite offering appointments and being listed as open. They then informed me that while being listed as in-network for BCBS, they are fee-for-service. Abhorrent customer service and completely sleazy business tactics. This place is sleazy. I tried using a promotion they offered me to pay for a service, and then when they went to apply it to my bill, realized they'd "forgotten" to charge me for something that was magically more than the promotion discount. They sold me on an insanely expensive night guard I found out later I absolutely didn't need. Dr. Jack re-filled 4 of my fillings a few months ago and ever since I've had nothing but problems when I chew - pain and sensitivity - two things I never experienced before they"fixed" the fillings. After returning once to have the filling further filed down, I was still having problems. I was told that if I was still having problems, I would need to have a root canal done. Additionally, it was recommended more than once that I needed a deep cleaning. I was told after the hygienist and dentist checked my gums that my pockets were 4s and 5s. I was quoted $800+ for all 4 quadrants of my teeth to be deep cleaned.I did not proceed with the deep cleaning. I decided to go to my dentist back home in New York while I was home this past week to get a second opinion. They were absolutely baffled when I told them that it was recommended for me to get a deep cleaning. They measured my gums and they found that I have all 3s and a couple of 4s. Additionally, I told them I was still having pain in the fillings that were "fixed" by Lincoln Park Smiles, so my dentist filed down the filling a bit more so my bite would be aligned. They also told me I was set up for failure by LP Smiles not shaving down the fillings in the first place - LP Smiles wanted the treatment to fail so they could ultimately do a root canal. It's unfortunate that I was taken advantage of in a vulnerable state by an unethical business like Lincoln Park Smiles. I am so glad I didn't end up doing the deep cleaning, as I'm sure I'd only have more mouth pain as a result. Not only have they lost my business, but they've also lost the trust and business of the patients I've referred to them. Please stay away from this dentist - very unethical. read more

I've always had really healthy teeth--no cavities, no gum problems, no anything. I decided to try to find a new dentist in the city instead of traveling to my hometown every time I needed a cleaning. So, I ended up coming here. During my first (and last) visit at Lincoln Park Smiles, I was told that two of my teeth were rotting and would need to be replaced, I needed an open gum surgery, and that I would need to get veneers for my front six teeth. After leaving their office scared out of my mind, I decided to get a second opinion at another practice. As it turns out, there was absolutely nothing wrong with my teeth at all. In fact, they are perfectly healthy, as always. This place was just trying to take advantage of me and trying to get me to spend a whole lot of money to get work done that I didn't need. I've been coming here for about 2 years now after a not so great experience with a different practice, and I cannot recommend Dr.Karen and hygienist Jackie enough! They have prescribed a cleaning plan that has gotten my teeth and gums back on the right track and I've never felt better. Everyone in the office is incredibly attentive and caring, and it amazes me how much they remember about our previous discussions even months later. Specifically, Jackie is incredible with my cleanings, and it's so nice to see her when I come back as she remembers what we've been working on which feels much more personal. She's great with little bits of instruction and each time I come back I feel like I've improved since my last cleaning. Also, I chipped my front tooth this past weekend and was due for a cleaning so they were able to schedule both back to back today, and I was seen right at my appointment time which is always a huge plus. Dr. Karen did and incredible job with a small filling and color matching, and you can't even tell that it was chipped at all! She's always been so easy to talk to and willing to answer any questions you may have, with one of the friendliest personalities I've ever found in a dentist. I did invisalign with Dr. Gay and it was a phenomenal experience. I took the Dr.'s instruction's to heart and was very compliant. As a result my teeth are straight and I am much more confident in my smile. The office team is great, helpful and accommodating. There were a couple of times where I wanted earlier appointment times than what was available. I got a call on the day of the appt due to cancellations and my requests were accommodated. So many things went wrong; from front of house to back: 1. After an exam Deena sent me an estimate that incorrectly said what my insurance would pay. She fixed it after I asked about my insurance. 2. I was scheduled for a lot of dental work. I took time off my job to go, got there, and was told that my appointment was incorrectly put in the system. Deena did not accommodate me with an appointment that would work with my schedule. 3. I had an emergency with my tooth on a Saturday. I called and followed instructions for emergency care. After a lot of phone calls with Deena and the dentist I was told that I would have to pay $350 out of pocket just to have the door opened and met with A LOT of resistance and complaint from the dentist. When I told her I wasn't happy with the way I was being treated she acted very unprofessionally. I don't even know how to describe it on a Yelp review; it was so egregious it would sound made up. My first appt with Dr. Jack was probably one of the most thorough I have ever have. Everyone was very nice and I think that they did a good job. Why not five stars then? Because they over-charge. I got a cleaning, which is covered at 100% by my insurance and they sent me a bill for everything over what the insurance didn't cover. I paid it. Come to find out that as part of Delta Dental, they are required to charge certain rates and the client should NOT have to pay anything over this. I referred a friend here, only to find that they also charged her some terrible high rates for procedures she wasn't sure she needed. If you are 100% sure that your insurance covers everything here, then I would reccommend. Otherwise, my be worth looking somewhere else. "Oh, that hurts! Wait! I'm not numb!" "Eh, Shut Up! Open Wide! Here I Come!" If you envision Steve Martin in "Little Shop..." when you think of the dentist than you should go see Dr. Jack... Going to the dentist sucks. Especially if you haven't been in...too long! Lincoln Park Smiles actually made it...not so bad! First of all, the office is painted a really pretty blue-ish green with Warhol-type paintings on the wall. They play unhateful music and have great magazines on the waiting room table. It didn't feel "medical." Michelle, who did my cleaning is very sweet and talked to me about her life and asked me about mine. It was nice to feel like more than just another patient. She calmed me when I freaked out about my cavities (ew!) and was very gentle. I went in the next week for my fillings and was very nervous. Monica at the front desk said I could use their iPod. I chose to get drilled to Weezer, Postal Service, and Rent (I know, lame). When Dr. J was ready to numb me he asked if I was ok and managed to stick my gums without me seeing the needle once! With puffy mouth I said "fank you for hidin the needle fwom me..." He said "You're welcome." Throughout the 3 hour procedure Dr. J and Jen repeatedly asked how I was doing. They have wonderful bedside manner, which has always been hard for me to find...oh, and staring at Dr. Jacks' blink-blink eyes wasn't so bad either! That said, I don't have dental insurance. Fixin' your grill is exPENsive yo! I don't really know what's average for dental work so...no help there. But, I kind of feel like the positive energy at this office from all of its' employees makes it worth a little extra dough...and they let me set up a payment plan to ease the financial pain. After recently moving to Chicago, I needed a new dentist and was looking for someone who had experience both in keeping teeth healthy and in cosmetic dentistry, as I have false front teeth as a result of an accident a few years ago. First of all, I believe that I was diagnosed with more cavities than I could have possibly had. He wanted to do 5 fillings in teeth that I hadn't experienced any pain, nor had it been more than 6 months since my last dentist appointment with my old doc, during which I was deemed cavity-free. I went back for 3 of the fillings, which ended up being the most painful dental work I've had to date. The root-canals I had done elsewhere were less painful than Dr. Jack's routine fillings! I was sore for several days and did not return for the other 2 fillings. Second, I inquired with Dr. Jack about perhaps re-vamping my front teeth, as I wasn't quite satisfied with the color match that I had going on after about 5 years of having my last work done. Money was definitely an issue for me, which I clearly stated, but just wanted to know my options. He pitched me a plan that included getting braces put back on just to bring my eye teeth more in line and shaving down some other teeth in the process. I just wanted my teeth to look like they did pre-accident, I wasn't interested in an absolutely perfect (and expensive) new smile. If you are looking for a movie star smile and are willing to shell out the cash for it, I'm sure that Dr. Jack would do a great job. read more

I called Lincoln Park Smiles on a Wednesday afternoon 15 min before they were going to close as the pain of my tooth was at an all time high. The attendant let me know they were closing and asked how bad the pain was, I told her I just cancelled a meeting I was having as the pain was too sharp to continue it. Dr. Jack and his great staff stayed an extra half hour to an hour to get me prepped for an emergency root canal across town. The root canal was done that day and within two hours from start to finish I was no longer in pain. Dr. Jack is the kind of dentist that is relatable, understands what his customers are going through, and will do what is in the best interest of your mouth always. When you walk in you talk with Deena who is really great. She's friendly and super good on follow ups via email/phone call. If you miss an appointment...its on you! My first visit I had not been to a dentist in 2+ years. After some cleaning they (Jackie) said my gums were in poor poor shape for a 29 year old. I was humiliated but I knew she was correct. I had lied to previous dentists about my flossing habits. I flat out, was negligent with my mouth and ashamed of my current state. It was and always has been, 100% on me and now I was paying for it. They assigned me a 3 part procedure called scaling which involves going under the gums to prevent gum disease. Game on Jackie. So I come back for 3 different procedures on my gums. Jackie is awesome! SHe was very friendly and complimented my new Nike shoes. She gave me 10 shots or so and numbed me good. Then the cleaning was painless. Procedures 2 & 3 were identical with Jackie..she's a pros pro. They only do a quadrant of the mouth at at time. Nothing bad. One shot felt like it was going into my upper brain! But other than that, no white hot pain. Only 8 of the shots actually hurt. I then had to get two cavities filled via Dr. Lauren Mell. She's great! She also liked my shoes. The tools she used for my fillings sounded like a chainsaw, buzz saw, and a drill bit but I braved through the conditions (Not my first rodeo). The Novocain Dr. Lauren Mell gave me eventually started wearing off but I was in a hurry so I bit down and LET IT RIP BABY! My dad told me he's done it before, so I had to try. I have to go back for a follow up with one of the cavities but I hear the worst is over. I was sore as jeepers the next day. It was a little expensive for everything but my gums look FAN-TAS-TIC. Very happy with LPS. They are professional, nice, and I'd recommend them to all Chicago people looking to get cleaner teeth. read more

Just.... Wow. First, let me start by saying I HATE going to dentists (they terrify me) and I have NO dental insurance. So, why the heck did I rate a dentist visit 5 stars? Well, it all started with a dental filling... That popped out... For the second time. After searching for a dentist that would accept care credit, I accidentally stumbled across the yelp page of this incredible dentist. I sent an email explaining my situation and inquiring if they accepted Care Credit (at 9 pm on a Wednesday night, mind you) and received a callback the very next morning. I had a dentist appointment scheduled for two days from then, and yes, they would accept Care Credit. Fast forward to Saturday morning, arrived at these (very easy to find- remarkable for someone who has only lived in the city 1.5 years, lives about an hour away, and still gets lost trying to get home from commonly visited places) and sat in the waiting room, slowly becoming more nervous. I was finally called in to the dentist's chair. (I was told Dr. Jack was running late - yes, you read that correctly... Jill... Going to see Dr. Jack... Commence childhood jokes- also, how cool is it to Find a dentist who allows his patients to call him by his first name?! Anyways, I was told the dr. Was running late, but I was called back less than ten mins after my scheduled appt.) X-rays were taken, then dr. Jack came back and explained the situation. Essentially, the cavity was incredibly close to my nerve, which might require surgery (to remove the wisdom tooth on that side), a root canal, and a crown... Not really what someone in graduate school without dental insurance wants to hear. Yet, Dr. Jack did not give up. Instead, he dosed me up with enough anesthetic to make my nose go numb (which was truly excellent, since I literally felt NOTHING in the next two hours of work) and began to drill. Knowing I was petrified of dentists, Dr. Jack went out of his way to continue to check on me and ensure I was doing well. At the end of the procedure, i had, what I can only suspect, to be half of his arsenal of a cavity repairing, nerve protecting equipment in and around my tooth. I was told to expect the next week to be painful (and it certainly has been), but that if all went according to plan, no surgery, no root canal, and no crown (fine by me, I don't need a crown to know I'm royalty ;) haha dental joke.) A week and a day faster that appointment, I walked away with a very affordable dental bill and a slightly decreased fear of dentists. I have a solid tooth again, and for that I owe Dr. Jack. He truly is a one-of-a-kind professional. One more note- apparently another person who went to dental school with Dr. Jack was in the office at the same time (and introduced himself- no HIPAA violations here, folks)... It's a great sign when another dentist trusts your dentist. Do yourself a favor and next time you have to get dental work done- call Dr. Jack. read more

I love everything from the chic decor to the unbelievable team that Dr. Jack employees. Jackie, the hygienist is seriously the best in the business. Every time I leave her chair, my smile is the brightest and whitest it has ever been. She keeps my teeth super clean and I can't imagine going to anyone else! I haven't spent too much time with Dr. Jack yet (thankfully I've never had to do anything beyond a routine cleaning), but he does inspect my teeth after every single visit and he always takes the time to chat with me about my life, work and more. Horrible experience. The dentist told me that I needed hundreds of dollars of work done and had multiple cavities. He also told me it was necessary to get additional expensive procedures that were not covered by insurance. I got a second opinion and that dentist told me I did not have any cavities and he did not recommend any work to be done. Their billing department is also completely incompetent. I received a bill (which I was told I wouldn't since my insurance covers 100% of cleaning fees) and the first bill I received told me my account was 30 days overdue. When I called, they told me their billing system was messed up and sent out a large number of incorrect bills and to ignore it. So, it's been a hot minute since I went to the dentist, so I was searching for a new dentist that can help me with dental needs and I was happy to find Lincoln Park Smiles. I made an online request and they were so timely in making my appointment. In addition, when I arrived at the office they were so polite and inviting. The office was clean and organized. The staff was amazing, very professional, the hygienist explained everything which was a first for me. Anyway, she was extremely understanding and not judgey which I appreciated. Also, the dentist was very direct, offered many alternatives and made sure I understood my options. At the end of it, she made sure I was okay and not overwhelmed which was really nice of her. Overall, the experience was great and I am excited to begin a dental partnership lol. In fact, my husband made an appointment as well after it was all said and done. One thing to be mindful about is parking. It was a little troublesome finding street parking. There is a parking garage available subject to preference. read more

DO NOT go to any offices owned by Lincoln Park Smiles. They overcharged me for every visit over the past 2+ years, stating that they would reimburse me the difference after they receive payment from my insurance (they didn't). Also, because my insurance company was delayed in making payments due to the state's budget crisis, Lincoln Park Smiles then required me to agree to monthly charges on my credit card to cover the insurance portion. I finally took control and discovered that they now owe me over $200, while they are sending me bills that say I owe them money! My insurance company also stated that it's against their contract with the insurance company to charge patients a payment plan to cover the insurance portion. The hours spent to discover the truth and now the effort it is taking to get my money back is unacceptable. read more

My first visit (just a cleaning and checkup) was very thorough; everyone carefully explained what they were examining, thoughtfully answered all of my questions and offered helpful tips to help enhance my dental hygiene. The whole experience was actually quite enjoyable, oddly enough. Dr. Jack was very pleasant; the office atmosphere is clean and very "Lincoln Park". At the end of my visit, I was handed the normal bag of "stuff" (which included a bottle of Tom's Mouthwash with my agreement to write a Yelp review - I understand the motivation for this, but it does seem a little odd and made me wonder how honest these reviews are). I always feel welcome, well taken care of and leave with a thorough understanding of what occurred during my visit. I actually look forward to going to the dentist. The entire team over at Lincoln Park Smiles was great from start to finish. Normally I am not a big fan of going to the dentist, however, being here, I felt completely comfortable. The office manager (Deena) was more than courteous and attentive to my scheduled appointment time and helpful with all my paperwork when I walked in, and when I was scheduling future visits. The hygienist (Kaitlyn) was very friendly and talked me through the whole cleaning, letting me know what exactly she was doing. Dr. Gay was fantastic as well, pointing out a few issues, and making me feel completely comfortable the entire time. The ambiance and comfort of this Doctors office is exceptional and I highly recommend this experience for anyone. This office changed my views on the dentist for the better. I hadn't gone to the dentist in 2 years bc I have had bad experiences and was just avoiding it but after my visited here that will no longer be the case.
