Just had a perfect experience with Jon and the staff at LT Automotive. Started with a major tuneup at 95,000 miles. The mechanics found two other serious issues and corrected them. The best part is this. Jon found a code with my transmission. He called Subaru and found out that it was on an extended warranty. He set up everything for me to go get it fixed at no charge! While home from the Marine Corps, I took my brand new car in for a mid muffler delete. The quote was high, but they could get me in before I had to return back to base in two days. I dropped the car off the next morning at 8:30 am and also discussed aftermarket tips that they sell in the shop being added to the job. I had an aftermarket diffuser in the vehicle to be installed by another shop after this appointment, but Jon said they could also install the diffuser in order to make sure the new tips were aligned correctly. Great! Got a new quote and was told they would have it until 2:30. Super long for two minor jobs, but not a big deal as the other shop indicated that would still give them plenty of time to do their part (front splitter and rock guards). Almost four hours later, I received a phone call from Jon asking me to waive any damages because they were having difficulty removing the rear bumper cover. I called a friend with more car experience, who advised me to tell them to only complete the mid-muffler delete and then take it to the other shop that was supposed to do the diffuser. Jon stated "we aren't a body shop." That is correct, which is why that job was originally scheduled for a different shop. Highly unprofessional to offer to do a job and then get offended when I won't sign off on possible damages to my brand new car. Arrived a little after 2 to pick up the vehicle. Original tips were removed, but not given back (didn't realize until later), and neither were the removed mufflers (standard to give original parts back to the owner). Took it straight to the other shop a block away to install diffuser, tips, front splitter and rock guards. The tech at this shop sent a video within minutes after dropping it off showing the terrible weld job and said to take it back to LT Auto immediately. (Wasn't able to upload the video or you would see for yourself). All four points were leaking exhaust. Upon calling LT Auto, Jon was apologetic, but said they couldn't fix it that day, and bring it back the following morning to be fixed. I did agree to that because I felt I had no choice, but was scheduled to leave at 6:30 am the next day for an 8 hour drive to return to base. I also did not feel confident taking it back to a shop that A-had it for 6 hours only to do a terrible job and B-felt it was acceptable for the vehicle to even leave the shop in that condition. I called another shop and, after explaining the situation, they said they would fit me in. Upon their inspection, they found that LT Auto used the wrong size pipes and that they tried to fill the gaps with extra weld, which you can clearly see in the video. They also said the pipe was pushed up against the heat shield and would have been a safety hazard, especially driving 8 hours straight the next day (I watched them force it back into position with a crow bar). So even if I had taken it back to LT for the repair, it likely would not have been done correctly if they used the wrong size pipes in the first place and were only going to fill the gaps with more weld, creating problems down the road, and also the more important issue of the heat shield that was not recognized before releasing the vehicle to me. I sent an email by way of the contact form on the LT website on Monday evening politely detailing the situation and respectfully asking for a refund. Not only did I have to pay for an extra repair job, but I was not able to get the other work done due to the time constraints caused by needing a last minute repair. I received a return phone call from Jon this morning who was not willing to resolve the situation with any type of refund. He said the only course of action would have been to return it to them for repair. Fortunately, the other shop took pity on me being young and inexperienced and did not charge me a lot to fix your mess. The consequences of your poor workmanship could have been much worse if I had not had another appointment with another shop who discovered the issue so that it could be repaired before I encountered bigger problems. read more

I went to LT Reno Automotive for service on their Spring Service Special and I called them the day before and I was told that it's basically an oil change and as a courtesy, they will check and top off any fluids. I knew that I needed some topping off on some of the fluids in my truck so I made an appt for the next day (0800). I brought it (my vehicle) to the shop as early as possible. I was told that it may take a few hours. I also inquired about any discounts and that they honor military. To make a long story short, they were finished with my vehicle around 0915. When I got home, I checked my fluid levels only to find out that my transmission fluid was still low. I called It automotive and spoke to John and he told me to bring it back. They sent out the mechanic who worked on my vehicle and he gave me excuses as to why he didn't fully top off the fluids as they (LT Reno Automotive) said they would. I was explained that my vehicle needed some repairs and or the engine was too hot to check the radiator fluid, etc. The mechanic told me to have the engine steam cleaned and checked for leaks. Disgusted for having wasted $41.79 for an oil change which I didn't have much confidence in already,... I left. And the invoice I received which is suppose to list the service I received was not even accurate. I believe I may have left out more things , such as not getting my military (or senior, or AAA, or AARP, if they honor them) and forgetting the reminder sticker (not that it is important) read more

My truck has a problem that needs to be fixed because it will start with difficulty, yet it does not stay running very long. I spoke with Jon and had to wait to get an appointment. His diesel mechanic diagnosed the problem, yet they were unable to do the repair because the mechanic had a mechanical problem...his shoulder needs rebuilding, and replacing a high-pressure oil pump requires that you practically stand on your head. His surgery was scheduled and I was given some choices of where to take the truck for repair. When I retrieved the truck from LT Automotive, they refused to charge me for their time and diagnostic work "Because we could not fix your truck". I could not believe they would not charge me, and rightfully so as most shops would get what they could. My truck is on its way to Battle Mountain for repairs at Point S, a AAA-rated repair shop. Reno shops could not even start the repair until after the first of July. In addition to saving time, the shop rate for labor in Battle Mountain is $95.00 an hour, much less than the Reno shop rate. I have used LT in the past and will use them again in the future as the need arises. read more

The first time I went here was for a muffler change and my dad came with me, the shop was nice, friendly, and cheap! Unfortunately that isn't the same experience as the one I had today. I went in for an oil change because the Hyundai dealership was essentially ripping me off, and the same situation happened! I couldn't believe it. 80 bucks for an oil change when I brought in the filter??? Hyundai only charges 60 for the exact same thing? Well, then I get told that I need my coolant changed and Hyundai recommends it. I say I don't have the money for it and the guy on the phone scoffs and gets annoyed with me. After that, when I pick my car up, we tell him have a good day and he sarcastically says, "Yeah."? Sorry LT Automotive, my family has been going to your shop for a while, but after this, none of us will be. UPDATE: Mark, tell me why installing a muffler was $100 while an oil change is $80? Also your "free multipoint inspection" is free at EVERY automotive mechanic. Your mechanic expertise couldn't even tell me if I had a leak, and you had to suggest me to go to another shop. If you hadn't blatantly ripped me off, because my former mechanic father wasn't with me, who you personally know because he walked in and you said hi to him first, we'd be talking, but this review is staying to show that you guys treat those with and without knowledge of cars differently. Also, I'm quite insulted over the fact that you assume I know nothing of my car. Yes, it is at 90,000 miles, regularly inspected, and taken care of, to the point where your mechanics said its the cleanest engine they've seen. read more

The best. This is an exhaust shop that does wonderful custom work. They sweat the small stuff (quality welds, measuring the angle of dual exhaust tips, etc) and are experts with listening and meeting sound needs. I have also used them for light automotive repairs (transmission flush, electrical) and all has been top notch. All at a fair price. read more

04 Odyssey needed a new starter. my Triple A had this shop listed as one of their Preferred and Suggested Locations. I rolled the dice. Upon receiving the return 'here's what we found' call...was informed all my motor mounts were shot. ( no wonder i was feeling all these 'bumps' when the trans went thru some auto-shifting. it wasn't really the transmission...but rather, the block twisting due to not being fully secured. it was pricey...but i told them to handle it. So...new starter, new motor mounts ( big job they said) and one or two other minor touches. over 2 grand. but all done and told, they were honest with me, and got me handled very nicely and in a timely fashion. no BS or 'taking forever'. Thank you guys. Better to have dealt with this 'big fix' now...before something awful happened with the engine and trans. I'll definitely be returning in the future. read more

UPDATE: just removed a star because the mechanic that checked my fluids didn't put the radiator cap back on tight enough causing fluid to leak out once I hit the freeway today (and the engine got up to operating temperatures). A little annoying there wasn't as much attention to detail as I had originally thought. This caused me to top off the reservoir and clean out my engine where the fluid had leaked all over. A minor detail that was missed by them, and easily fixed on my part. May still give them another chance as that's not half as bad as some things I've experienced with other mechanics around town. read more

I put a hole in my gas tank (by accident, haha not on purpose), and so I was marooned in Reno for a little while right around Thanksgiving. I don't have close friends or family in town, so I just chose an auto shop at random based on a strong review score. There are friendly professionals here, and I felt I was treated very fairly, in spite of being in a dicey position (what am I going to do, get a 2500 mile tow home?) They warned me about a couple issues that I had caused with recent dirt roading, and also took a look at an electrical issue my vehicle has. They were able to give me a quick fix solution, and I was able to get home well in advance of Christmas. Great work, thank you again! read more

This place is a scam. Their are no real mechanics at this shop. John is in charge and he brags about his many years of auto experience. I told him that my suv was dying. The motor didn't sound good but he told me that he could fix it and that my car would drive like new. Well he lied to me. I pick up the car and paid in full. I drove the suv down the street and it drove worse than when I turned it over to them. I drove it back because it drove so bad. John re diagnosed my vehicle and said the motor is blown. I asked for my money back because they tried to fix a blown motor. A real mechanic would of diagnosed a blow motor the first time. Mark is the owner and he is in the business of cheating the custome. He didn't hire real mechanics. Mark isn't even a mechanic him self so he wouldn't know how to hire any one of value any ways. This shop should be shut down. This shop has plenty of complaints all about the same experience I had with this shop. Make sure that your concerns are in writing on your paperwork. Before you just pay in full like I did, first go for a test drive. The ford dealer ship told me that this shop is a scam, after my experience. Do your self a favor and take your car anywhere else but here. I hope that people will read this post and all the other posts where the customer brings in a car and leaves with a car that breaks down. Do not pay in cash or debit Like I did. Instead pay with a major credit card this way if you have any problems, your credit card company can help you get your money back. Make sure that this shop writes the reason you brought the car in on your paperwork. My paperwork only showed that the shop fixed things but there where no reasons of why I brought the car in on the paperwork. This shop does this on purpose so that they don't have to give you a refund. read more

They made a custom small piece of exhaust for me for an older car repair for free. Cut the pipe, opened up the ends, and it fits perfectly. Took them about 30 minutes. Again, no charge for parts or time. Very friendly staff as well. I'll be coming back for future service. read more

The most honest mechanics in town! They totally tuned up my car and did not try to up sell me on things that weren't necessary. They gave me an extremely fair price for all of the work they did. They offered to drive me around to get errands done and called me whenever they needed to do something important to my car. PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU GO THERE!!!!!! I went in with my old beat up SUV wanting an estimate on my exhaust and see how things looked in general underneath. THIS GUY comes back to me with a stack of estimates each for several hundred dollars worth of work. I listened to what he said while thinking I gotta get the hell outta here quick!!!! (This next part is not an advertisement it's simply the people I dealt with) I then took my vehicle into the Meineke on w4th and they did my exhaust for almost exactly half the price LT quoted me and then I went to the shell on the corner of moana & Kietzke and they did a tuneup for one third of the price they quoted me. These guys are straight scum and any review on here that's not negative just has to be from them and their friends or people who had no idea they were being taken. read more

The only reason I gave them 2 stars and not 1 is cause they were kind. Long story short. I needed my 7.3 diesels oil leak fixed, it looked like they only had young punk kids working there. I ended up taking my truck back to them 3 different times cause they couldn't fix they leak. I ended up spending over 5k, the truck still leaks. What I thought was a exhaust leak turned out to be a transmission leak. This shop not only told me it was likely covered under my factory warranty but called the dealership for me to verify and explain exactly what was wrong to the service desk. If you've ever delt with Nissan before you're aware how awesome it is to not have to argue with them! Nissan is now fixing the issue for free, but LT has earned my future business and referrals. Went to LT automotive to get my catalytic converter tested. They tested it to find out that nothing was wrong and the proceeded to find the issue. They determined that my truck was misfiring then offered me a quote to tune up my truck, I nicely turned it down. Then went on my way. Here's my story...My family and I took a quick trip to Reno and had a great time and when I went to get the car to load and go the car would not start. Joy. I called AAA after determining it wasn't the battery and had an idea it may be the starter. Being from the Bay Area I wasn't familiar with any mechanics in the area and AAA mentioned LT Automotive as an option which was less than a mile from the Peppermill. I said that was fine and was hoping for the best though I had my reservations. I shouldn't have. Once my car was towed to LT Automotive I stepped inside and was warmly greeted by Jon and he listened to my plight. He stated he was extremely busy that day but he would do his best to have his crew check it out and get us back on the road home as quickly as possible. He meant what he said. He was very forthcoming about the potential charges of it was the starter and what I could expect which was very reasonable. Jon even said he would try to get his guys to look at it sooner than expected and would be in contact with me. He even proceeded to mention a local walkable breakfast spot if we were hungry....which we took him up on. After eating we took a Lyft to Atlantis Resort to wait the remainder of the time for our vehicle. Jon called to inform me that it was indeed the starter and he had the part in Sparks and after his crew went to lunch at noon the vehicle would be available within an hour or two. Cool with me. Jon called me sooner than the hour to let me know the car was ready but noticed my oil change sticker was past due and if I would like them to proceed with an oil change. He mentioned the price and I said sure. It was refreshing to see them go the extra mile to notice the sticker as I was in the market for an oil change anyway. All in all the car was in the shop for about 5 hours but honestly in my situation (no appointment) that was remarkably short and I was back in the Bay Area three hours later. Jon and his crew helped this out-of-towner like I was a VIP. No hidden fees, great communication, and great work. I can't recommend them enough. Jon and (sadly I didn't get her name) the very friendly women he works with in the office turned my nightmare morning into an enjoyable experience that I'll be talking about for years. My wife always wanted a late checkout from Reno...and she got it. If you need car service I highly recommend giving them a chance. I frequent the Peppermill often and if I ever need car service in the area, I know where I'll be going. And you should too. read more

These guys are very honest, and get repairs done quick. Have been coming here for sometime for things I can't fix or find the time for. Recently my son's 4x4 stopped working on his SUV. We troubleshot it until it got dark in the snow. But ran out of time. Brought it to LT Automotive and they found a bad vacuum line. 4x4 components are very expensive and can be pricey fixes. But these guys were very honest, found the simple problem, and we're honest about it. They had in back to us in a couple hours. Thanks guys for your honesty and quick precise work. read more

I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma truck that had severe rust on the frame rail. I ordered replace rail parts from back east and had them shipped to LT where they cut out the bad portions of the rail and replaced them with the new parts. They did a good job and I'm grateful for their work. read more
