If you want a Cape Verdean food fix Luanda's a good option. Typical of Cape Verdean restaurants service is slow but friendly. Done come here if you are starving but expect to have a few drinks with friends while waiting a bit longer for your food. My family and I went on a Sunday afternoon when it was not as busy. Once we walked in, we were immediately seated which was nice. We didn't have to wait to be serviced as soon as we sat down. Hubby and I already decided we were going there for their Shrimp Mozambique. I got French fries on the side for our little one and he got plantains which didn't disappoint. Me and my partner came here for an impromptu sit down dinner while in the Area, and it was fantastic! I ordered the Portuguese passion fruit soda as a drink, we got the Jaysen's Special with fried plantains and yuca and chorizo for an appetizer and the Muamba De Galinha bone-in chicken dish with cassava/yuca mash and palm bean sides for our main course. I think it was all worth the wait for the food and 18% auto-gratuity (which I like, explained below) and I would come back. Our appetizer was amazing, the Yuca and Plantains alike were indeed fried to perfection as it says on the menu and the chorizio was also perfect. It also comes with a ketchup and mayo mix on the side which gives a nice flavor to the fried yuca and plantains and makes for a perfect appetizer. We then split the Muamba De Galinha which was also delicious! It consisted of 5 pieces of chicken roughly, on the bone and in a special broth with palm oil beans and cassava/yuca mash on the side. The chicken, especially near the bone, was tasty though it got a little drier near the edges of the chicken. The broth and beans are also a bit salty on their own and maybe could use a little more spice (for my palette at least), but go perfectly when eating with the chicken or the cassava/yuca mash! The service and ambiance was also nice with the wait staff being very friendly to us, though the food did take a bit to get out. And regarding the 18% automatic gratuity, I personally like that kind of thing as it safeguards employees and ensures an equal distribution of tips to all the workers. More people need to tip in this country! If the employees of this restaurant read this review, keep up the good work and don't listen to those who don't want to tip. read more

Luanda does not have to worry about me ever stepping foot in this restaurant again. My friend and I went for lunch on Saturday at 1:15 PM. We left after 3. By the time we got our menus we were the only customers in the restaurant. It took an hour for our food to get to the table and it was lukewarm. She ordered six chicken wings with a side of mashed potatoes that tasted like they were instant potatoes and I had a breakfast sandwich that consisted of a fried egg on mini Portuguese rolls, thinly sliced chorizo and plantains. I asked for my egg to be fried hard, but the yolk was soft, The young lady at the entrance desk was having a full on conversation at the top of her lungs with a gentleman sitting at the bar on the other side of the restaurant so we couldn't even hear ourselves talk. The waitress came to the table and she also was having a conversation with somebody in her earbud. Very unprofessional! The food was expensive and on top of that, they added an 18% consumption fee which I was told was for the cook.The waitress still was trying to show me where the tip section was on the POS machine so I could leave her a tip, too! There was a woman there, who carried herself with a managerial air. What left a bad taste in my mouth was the restaurant charges the consumers an 18% in house consumption fee, also they expect the consumer to leave a gratuity of at least 18-20%. This restaurant takes way to long to prepare food. It will not even be busy and you will have to wait 15 to 20 min for your order to take out. This is after you called it in and didn't go to the restaurant until 15 min or more after you placed the order. Most recently when I ordered I was told 5 min after I arrived. I timed it, 38 min later I had my food. This was one regular entree. However if you are friends with the workers you get food quickly, 6 different people came in for take out, shake hands with the person at the bar and within 5 min they have there food. Thank you Luanda restaurant!! They catered 6 dishes for a Birthday party..had a stressful day..went in to grab the food..didn't realize they delivered! Which I would've have them delivered! They ran a little behind.. which stressed me out..But the owner came and assured me that everything was ok and that they would deliver it to the venue for me!!!! she sent us with a drink on the house... the food was delicious! I've tried Luanda once before, but only for take-out and I promised myself I'd be back for a full dining experience as the atmosphere was lively when I picked up my order. The next time I visited was with my friend as she recommended this spot again to eat. I ordered the Salmao Grelhado which is a grilled salmon and she ordered the Bife A Casa which is a steak topped with a fried egg. The salmon was perfectly cooked and I would definitely order again. The restuarant was a little empty the random night we went it, but I know it's a hot spot once the weekend hits. Besides, the background music almost had me out my seat to do a little two-step ( I love CV/ angolan music). I think the next time I visit will be during their Sunday brunch as there is live music as well. One of the worst service experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. For over three years this establishment has been receiving reviews about how terrible/slow the service is and still nothing has changed. Food is mediocre at best, very bland with a high price tag. To top off the very slow service, they wouldn't honor the free appetizer they have advertised on Yelp as a check in offer. We were told flat out that they tried taking it off Yelp so it won't be honored. That isn't the customers problem! That's between Yelp and the restaurant. Don't offer things and then not follow through. It's about the principal at this point. Oh and they added an 18% auto gratuity to a party of two. That's just really bad business practice. read more

I have been meaning to come here for some time and finally did with my parents this afternoon. We were not disappointed! The space is bright with beautiful artwork on the walls. Our server David was just lovely and offered to explain anything on the menu. The rolls were just out of the oven fresh and warm. We had the appetizer Jaysen's special with chourico, plantains and yuca with mayo ketchup dipping sauce. Everything tasted delicious. Between us we had the chicken natas, natas being a lemony tasting smooth and creamy (but not heavy) sauce. The chicken was pounded thin, I got it with yellow rice and boiled potatoes. My parents had the tuna rice and cod baccalau (my spelling may be off). The flavors were gentle and nothing was overly salted because the flavor stood on its own. Desserts (yes I love boxing up half my meal and ordering dessert ha!). My dad's tres leches cake was moist and delicious. I had the house dessert, a custard like pudding with two cookies that had been soaked in coffee and you could really taste the coffee. Would love to try the drinks mojitos etc next time. I woke up this morning and wanted octopus so bad so I decided to come to Luanda. I ordered a delicious mango smoothie. I should've got one to go it was so good. Jaylens special was great the yuca and plantains were fried too perfection nice and golden and not dried out. The octopus came out beautiful except it was cold I was disappointed because I was super hungry I told the waitress she took it back with no problem and when she brought it out it was nice and hot this time. My friends chicken was to bland no flavor what so ever I asked if the olive oil sauce that came with it made it any better it didn't. My shrimp Mozambique was very milky no spice what do ever the rice and beans were ok the vegetables not so much. The service is really slow here It took about 10 min to get a menu ... 15 min after ordering drinks they came ... I asked for more ice for my Canada Dry she brought it out when the side was gone ... the apps were still on the table when the food came and she brought out the containers also so the table was packed with stuff .... I've been to Luanda Brockton twice before, for the Sunday brunch buffet. Both times absolutely loved it. Food was fresh, servers were on hand to take care of you, great atmosphere and food tasted great. I need to come back for dinner service to try out the menu. My grandparents on my father and mother's sides were Immigrants from Brava and Fogo, so I'm not the greatest speaker of Kriolu. I find this a great opportunity to practice speaking and dine on great food at the same time. Win/win! read more

SO yummy but pricey! We ordered from them through Uber eats and will definitely be trying them again when we are in the area. First time really trying to Cape Verdean food and must say we were impressed. The perfect comfort food! We ordered two plates. One was steak tips, white rice, and fries & the other was their chicken Nata with orange rice and sweet plantains. We added additional shrimp to both of our plates. No complaints besides portions. It's a lot of money for the amount of food you get. The steak plate alone was 38$ and my chicken plate was 20 something. We also got one very small pina colada. With fees and taxes, our meal came to 80 something.. that's almost 100$ for takeout for two people no dessert. Waiting to see what the menu is like at the actual restaurant, hoping it's just Ubereats hiking up prices because we'd love to try more items but definitely not worth it for delivery. read more

This is my go to Brockton CV/ Portuguese spot. I love their canja (the chicken soup) definitely a great comfort food. Their churasco ( whole grilled chicken or 1/2) is amazing and comes with 2 sides. Salmon with sweet potato and veggies the best healthy meal. Their white rice is bomb.com. Definitely a must try if around the Brockton area, you can eat in, it is always a nice experience or call for take out. I came here with two friends when things opened up after the quarantine, and the reason why they get such a low rating from me is because of the extremely bad service that isn't worth the 18% gratuity that they add to the bill. With the place at less than half capacity, especially on a weekend, I expected to get more attention from our server, but this did not happen at all. We ended up staying in the establishment for over 2 hours! During the first hour we'd only had one cocktail each because our server didn't check on us regularly, nor were we able to flag them down on a rare appearance. At one point my friend literally had to go to the counter to ask for the glasses of water that we'd asked for when we first sat down. Having worked as a server during college, I was trained that it was a standard practice to always serve water no matter what. I don't understand this because they literally had two other tables to tend to with two people at each table, which isn't a whole lot to manage. Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious. I had the potatoes and chorizo for an appetizer, but by the time it came to the table an hour had passed by and it was lukewarm. For an entree I had the house steak with eggs, rice, and fries. It took another 30 minutes for my entree to come, which I'd asked to be cooked medium but it came out well done. By this time I was so hungry and disappointed that I didn't even care because I just needed something in my stomach. So a total of an hour and a half just to get the main meal. This is beyond ridiculous at any standard. When it was all said and done our bill came out to more than $190. We left cash and left. After analyzing the bill I realized that they charged us the extra 18% just for sitting down. It also dawned on me that the service is so bad because the servers are guaranteed a pay from the customers that they don't really have to work for. By the way, there's no way that with what we ordered that the bill and service justifies this amount. In conclusion, the service is just as bad, as the food is delicious. Don't get over charged just for sitting down at this place like we did. Definitely not recommended. read more

After the check came and we saw the automatic 18% service, I would say no, it wasn't worth the hour + for our app and food. I'd written a good review for this place before, but this time it was a complete disappointment. First, we had to walk almost around a huge fenced in patio area to find out which door was unlocked, as the door facing the street was locked. (Does that make any sense?) We were seated only to find out they're still operating with QR codes instead of menus. I asked why and they said "we're working on it." (I could download their menu from their web site, pull up MS Word and hand them a finished product in probably minutes.) The place was also freezing cold; too much AC and I had to run to the car for a sweatshirt for my girlfriend. We ordered food, waited half an hour and decided to leave since we were quite hungry. Meanwhile as we waited, some guy at the bar who came in after we did got his food, and several "to go" orders also went out. But nothing for in-person diners??? The restaurant was completely empty so there's no excuse. I will say this: The waitress was nice. But clearly these business owners either aren't trying anymore or don't know how to run a business.
