Both dishes were more on the bland side and the Tiramisu was just okay to me. Perhaps the ladyfingers were soaked too long or something because I didn't get any texture of it. The American bistro inspired menu has a decent amount of variety that spans from brunch to a tasty weeknight dinner and a drink. Their starters have a variety of tasty bites that include the white truffle eggs, wicked wings, prosciutto-melon burrata, Mama Pauley's meatballs, and a very addicting chipotle pimento cheese dip. While I appreciate the vegan-friendly hippie chickpea croquettes, it needed just a bit more seasoning. Their bacon double cheeseburger has been deemed "insta-famous" and it certainly didn't disappoint. It's juicy, a little messy, but a lot delicious. It paired well with their large cut fries (consider upgrading to the truffle fries), but the house made chips are also a good light bite. While their expectations were sky high, they apparently were never met as the experiment fizzled in less than a year. On the surface, things looked excellent. The location was central and the venue was gorgeous. It was modern, spacious, clean, and buzzing with folks from all walks of life. The staff was young and ambitious, doing their best to keep things in line with excellent phone manners and were organized all around. The bathrooms were so clean that they ended up being my favorite part of their interior. The menu really embodied their "Pizza. Rotisserie. Bar." theme, which resulted in an extensive menu of food and drinks, with the semi-laughable solo choice of rotisserie, which was a half bird and a handful of sides at $19. Overall, the prices seemed reasonable by neighborhood standards, with the pizzas themselves all less than $20 and pastas were around the same. The kids menu had numerous sub-$10 items and free dough to keep youngins occupied. To be fair, the pizzas were not particularly memorable despite being extremely presentable. The staff would shower a blanket of cheese on the entrees, which made every dish look the part for quality food porn. Despite feeling a bit skimpy portion wise, the pastas fared far better than the pizza. The pappardelle bolognese was their priciest option but was also the weakest link flavor wise. The carbonara ($19) was tastier but was gobbled up faster than the rigatoni vodka ($20), which had the best presentation of the dishes. The cauliflower mash and broccolini were immediate passes (#1) and the wagyu smash burger ($16) was highly recommended but also highly underwhelming. Despite the mediocrity of several items, I still enjoyed what Pie Tap had to offer. As someone who bakes that just has me scratching my head so I assume that that 96 hour fermentation has to be at low temperatures in order to avoid overdevelopment of the gluten. That is to say over development of the dough that the yeast fed on. Weird.
