This Parking Garage is the antithesis of sense. You drive in on one end, only to come down the…read morestairs and find yourself on another side. It's maddening. We've only parked here a couple times, and both weren't the highlight of our trip. It's expensive and it's much much easier to park on the street. I also can't for the life of me ever find the elevators and will have to take other reviewers word for it that one actually exists. My advice is to skip this garage as the machines on the street will take cards, plus if you're not local to the area, you may actually remember where your car is as opposed to trying to figure out how to get back to where you came from and which side of the street to use to do it.

The rest were blocked off. There was a sign that basically said that the lot was under construction. Very unfortunate as it lost a possible customer. I couldn't park anywhere else, especially the one across the street where ABC Bakery Café is as it was crowded. I didn't discovered until later attending a networking meeting at Central Park that there were several lots such as this one that was under construction now that the summer concert season had just concluded. I would highly avoid parking here during the day, regardless of whether it is a weekday or a weekend. Maybe perhaps you'll get lucky and find an available space after 6 PM on a weekday evening.

I decided it was best to park on the roof and take the escalator down to ground level.....right to the restaurant! While I was there, I walked around to see what the indoor mall was like. It's a nice shopping mall with a variety of shops, restaurants, and services. The North Mall has a huge "Dining Terrace" which includes an outdoor patio with fire pits. I like the hand washing area. I heard stories that the owners of the mall want to tear down the enclosed mall and build a mixed use open air mall. The plan is yet to be approved. I like Hillsdale Mall the way it is.

I really love the new look of the recent expansion; the modern touch gives the space a much-needed upgrade. However, it is a bit sad to see so many stores closing. While the new section is beautiful, the original building hasn't changed much and feels like it's lacking the same level of improvement. Despite that, I still enjoy walking the floors and window shopping. The food court is decent--not a ton of variety, but the seating is comfortable--and the other restaurants and movie theater are great features. I have my favorite go-to stores, but I really hope they attract more tenants soon to bring back that busy, vibrant energy!

Once after boarding the shuttle to the airport, I realized I left one bag in our car. They sent it with the next shuttle so I didn't have to go back to the lot. Much appreciated. Thanks Anza!

This was the first time I've ever used long term parking at the airport…read more I had done some internet shopping with various parking companies. Anza was by far the most highly praised and had the most reasonable rates for a long park. Compared to Lyft/uber rides, for a two week stay, the cost was close to identical. Before arriving I made a reservation online via the website ( for some reason the app wasn't working on my phone). Use the coupon tab to get a promo code. Apparently all the codes offer the same discount. You can choose to prepay or pay at the lot. I choose to pay at the lot. Since the app wasn't working for me, I printed the reservation information. Arriving in the middle of the night at completely new long term parking seems like a daunting task. But I was completely wrong. There were no staff except for the shuttle driver. But Anza parking is meticulously organized. There were clear signs which guided you through the whole parking process step by step. The signs were perfectly positioned. In the wee hours there is no valet parking. You self park. But once you find your spot you wait for the shuttle. The shuttle driver followed me. This was a great relief. Being alone in an enormous deserted parking lot would have been unnerving. The driver assisted me with my luggage. He gave me a ticket with my parking spot recorded. Payment is expected after you return from your trip. It's a short drive from the parking to the airport about 5-8 minutes. The driver knew exactly the right terminal down to the best door to use for my airline. Once again he assisted me with my luggage. The driver was courteous throughout. Don't forget to tip the driver the way I did. A big bad on my part, which I regret deeply. On the return trip, you need to find the spot labeled "off airport parking" which is located on level two, on the central island(exit the terminal, take the crosswalk across the street) and look for the signs posted. The Anza shuttle will be clearly labeled in the front of the vehicle. The shuttle runs often. I waited for nine minutes. The shuttle runs 24 /7. The driver will collect your ticket and drive you to your parked car if you have self parked. This time I remember to tip the driver. Drive your car back to the entrance/exit. Then drive to the exit lane which is clearly marked. There will be a kiosk with a friendly staffer. You will need your quote and your ticket. I had already entered my credit card information via the website and payment was trivially easy. I recommend Anza Parking wholeheartedly.

There is a 3hr max parking in ground floor and 10hr max parking in 2nd floor and above. I think from other parking garages and street parkings, they're as cheap as the one I went to. If that's the case, then this makes this downtown one of the cheap downtowns to visit. There's a lot of parking spaces from second floor and beyond. I guess that Sunday isn't really that busy right now but I do see groups of people from certain areas of downtown. Maybe it will get packed on Fridays and Saturdays. We'll see if I decided to visit on either days.

This is an unassuming garage on the corner of DT San Mateo. Unlike Central Garage, or Main Street Garage, this garage is surrounded by offices and a day school, and thus, tends to be utilized by the nearby working professionals. While a bit sketchy looking, especially around the staircases and the alleyway out back, it's relatively clean as to be expected in San Mateo, and I've always found it pretty safe. Parking itself is limited to 3hrs on the first floor, and 10hrs on the 2nd floor and up. While parking here is incredibly cheap ($0.75/hr), the pay machines are only located on the first floor and only take coins and dollah dollah bills ya'all. Make sure to note the parking spot # you park in so that you are paying for the correct spot. I typically have pretty good luck finding parking at this garage as it is a bit farther away from all the "action" of downtown. If you happen to find yourself in DT San Mateo for dinner on a weekend when it gets crazy busy, I suggest trying the 2nd & El Camino Garage first.
