Popped in for take out last week; subs for the family. Have been here ages ago for dine in and enjoyed it, but it was a little pricey for us. Subs were more manageable. From the Chicken Parm sub to an on-the-fly request for shrimp salad sub (made fresh by the owner), everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dinner. The sides of fries and onion rings were great as well. Not the best experience tonight. Ordered a focacia pizza and was wondering what was taking so long so I went inside to ask. Waiter said dough was frozen so it was taking longer than normal. Would have been nice to know. Went back in 10 monutes later and Owner(?) Became argumentative. Not a good move. No apology or anything. Pizza was average at best for frozen dough. Friendly environment. Good staff, good food. French fries were great. The breakfast omelette are good. The soup I ordered was ok. Pasta de fazol. Not sure how to spell it. According to the menu the soup is supposed to be spicy, but to my taste it was very bland. I will order something else next time. The pizza and sandwiches all looked great. read more

After a long day of doing work around the house neither of us felt like cooking dinner and decided to stop on the way home to grab a bite, we've passed this place plenty of times and decided we should stop in and give it a go. Firstly they were having one of those drink and paint things there which piqued my interest. I've always wanted to try. The restaurant is deceivingly large. Big dining area big enough to accommodate a class on one side and regular diners on the other. They also have a refrigerated case where you can buy items to take home, although didn't really look to see what they had. We walked up to the counter grabbed a menu and decided what we wanted and then ordered. It took a little longer my husband got an Italian Sub and I got a cheese pizza. My husband also got some salted caramel gelato for dessert. They have a gelato case there too. :-) Once we got home we dug in, and it was good. My husband really liked his sandwich, and while my pizza was good the sauce was a little plain jane for my taste. So perhaps for next time order a topping to add a little extra oomph. The staff here was great too super friendly. Looks like a family run business which I'm happy to support provided the service is good and this place I will certainly come back to. I heard this place had good pizza and pasta but when I went I decided to get meatball sub with fries and a Coke. I took it to go and the wait was under 10 minutes. So I used the facilities while I waited which are clean and well stocked. The food arrived in the Styrofoam box and plastic bag and I took my canna Coke and left. Didn't wait too long to eat because I like my food hot in this deal was. Th food tasted great and was a nice change from the meatball subs I usually get at subway next door. read more

Very disappointed with Lucias. I have supported them since they have opened. Ordering take out when we can. Ordered this evening ,items were missing from our order. Called them. Since I had Uber eats delivered it to me. They blamed Uber eats. Delivery person only picked it up and delivered to my house he does not make the food nor fulfill the order. For a restaurant who was just thanking their customers a week ago they don't really seem to care about them. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Awww, man. What a waste of a meal. True, I did not look at the reviews and I was hungry after my massage in the same shopping center. Worst lasagna ever. Who messes lasagna up? Way too much cheese....in fact, the meal was 80% cheese, and barely any pasta or meat The minestrone soup...barely any taste and for $6 for the bowl, I felt there should have been more substance in the soup. Finally..the positives. Our waiter was great. Very attentive, and the service was quick. Also, the bread was fresh....soft and warm. This restaurant is, for the most part, unremarkable. While the Italian shop section is a nice touch and provides a nice reprieve, the overall experience is just mediocre. I ordered the lunch portion baked ziti and it was unfortunately small. The other people I was dining with had larger portions so I think this selection was just a bad one. The menu described the lunch items as coming with bread, but our server forgot to bring it out until after the meal was over. I left hungry and I feel like this is a fatal flaw for an Italian restaurant. The waitstaff is, at least, very friendly. I was all the way out in this part of VA and found Lucia's as a Sicilian based Italian restaurant online. They claim Sicilian origins. I was intrigued. Most of the Italian places closer to DC are on the trendier fusion side of Italian cuisine due to the real estate set up. This is code for "not great, but you silly transplant locals with no taste think price and location must equal quality." The first floors of all the condo/apartment units in the major DMV area usually are doled out for retail to create living spaces with first-floor shopping/eating and top floor living. This high retail rent usually means the Chipotle/BurgerFetish/NoodleBar type corporate restaurants dominate the eatery landscape of the DC/NoVa region. The locals seem to like it. I do not. Tears. I've had a few things across my 3 trips to Lucia's. I am overall pleased. Locals should be thankful they get to eat good Italian. Service - No complaints. The guy at the front of the house is very clearly not from the region because he was fast moving, fast responding, and on point. No mistakes. They also included fresh bread with the to-go order, which is de facto how Italian places should operate. I appreciated this. Marinara - Great. Homemade and wonderful. Really great marinara is not easy to find in this part of the world. It should not be acidic like your jar marinara or that stuff they put on your fast casual pizza lunch. It shouldn't be too salty or sweet and it should have a richness achieved from a slow cooking down process. It should be on the darker side, and not bright red. Always taste a bit of the marinara when the main course arrives before your taste buds are shot to evaluate the marinara. Arincini - NYC "high end" quality. The arancini could hang with the best of NYC, and I do mean Arthur Ave./Little Italy "high end" places. 4 large pieces with house marinara is a steal. Polpette - Sicilian meatballs - same as Arincini. World-class homestyle meatball. Velvety and flavorful. 3 large sitting in homemade sauce with a hit of fresh cheese. If you want a sexy meal for 2 at home, order the Arincini, Polpettes, and a side of pasta to go. Throw the meatballs on the pasta. Easy, not too expensive, and a world-class dinner at home. Meatballs and Arincini both heat up well enough. Lasagna - very good. Lasagna is hard to make bad, but difficult to make really good. This is toward the better end, but there's lots of variation. Al Normal - I'm critical on this. This is a local dish from Catania, where Lucia's ancestors originated. Simple rigatoni or penne with marinara and lightly fried eggplant. Fresh and symbolic of the "eggplant and tomatoes" culture of Sicily. It was a touch bland, and if it were the only dish someone ordered, they'd think they paid $15 for plain penne and eggplant. The problem was there's supposed to be a nice hit of fresh Italian cheese on top to explode the flavors. They didn't put the cheese...IDK if the boys in the back who actually cook the food didn't know that or they just botched it. It wasn't on the side, either. That alone is a huge star loss...it's like ordering a Caesar salad and they forget the croutons. Portion was large for around $15 and the penne was not overcooked. Eggplant was fresh and fine by me. Melanzane - Anytime "Sicilian" is actually used on the menu, they better deliver on the eggplant dishes. This is the original eggplant parm. thing that came from Sicily. It's layered eggplant and fresh cheese. They serve it over al dente pasta. Sicilian version is a bit lighter fried than the crispy/ layered versions that became Italian American staples from South Italy. This was good. Try it instead of the lasagna for an alternative. Very filling. I've tried 2 Hot Sandwiches and both were wonderful. At $8 for the "Small," the sandwich was huge, fresh, and incredible quality. If somebody asked for a really great lunch offering, I'd point them to Lucia's for a hot sandwich and they would be impressed. The "Small" was big enough for a hungry lunch and at $8 was absolutely wonderful. -Sausage and Peppers Sandwich- Excellent. NY approved. Old-school sausage and peppers cooked with onions, peppers, olive oil. It goes on a soft roll at BBQs, get togethers, or festivals so you can carry it around with you. -Chicken Parm Sandwich - Excellent. "Parm" has nothing to do with, it comes from the Sicilian word for layering. They nail the classic "chicken parm sub." The put the marinara on the side so you can make the mess yourself. I also ordered this to-go, so it may be different served in-house. Lovely. OVERALL: Lucia's could make the cut as a "decent" local neighborhood place in the NYC region. People wouldn't rave about the food to their friends, but they also wouldn't complain, either. Also doesn't touch the "high end" dishes you'll find in certain neighborhoods...but I don't think they're going for that. It's, you know, middle of Virginia. read more

Excellent place! What a great experience we had yesterday (Monday). Half off lasagna special; which was absolutely amazing! Pretty big size, enough for two kids. No point getting the kids' size on Monday. I was full and so was mom. Italian bread was soooo good. Service was incredible. The manager took care of a little hiccup we had leaving us very happy and wanting to come back. Big restaurant. Excellent menu. Reasonably priced. Desserts looked amazing but didn't leave space for any. Place had a particular smell to it that I was not enjoying but I'll Be back!! read more

Lucia's is a nice family-run restaurant in a small neighborhood shopping center. Decor is nice, contemporary style and staff is friendly. Ordering is ala carte so salad or vegetables are not included with the entrees. We ordered Veal Sorentino (veal, egg plant, prosciutto, cheese) and Frutti di Mare (plenty of clams, calamari, shrimp with linguine). The bread is tasty with the oil and seasonings. Entree servings were large enough to take home leftovers for another meal. There are plenty of desserts and we really liked the gelato and many flavors are available. The pizza and subs are reasonably priced alternatives to the entrees. Although higher-priced than the Italian restaurant chains, Lucia's offers authentic, family-style dishes with very good service. read more

Walking into Lucia's, I was stunned by how nice the restaurant was. The past year or so I haven't had the best experience with Italian restaurants, but Lucia's was a great change for the better. The food here is absolutely delicious, and the service was phenomenal. I found my time at Lucia's to be specifically better because of one of the workers. The pizza, pasta, subs, and gelato are authentic and always on point. I called for a PICKUP order at 8:25pm. And, was told they closed at 8pm. Probably the best pizza in Loudoun county I had a medium 3 meat pizza that was out of this world, and I had leftovers for two days. The prices are fantastic. My better half had the chicken parmesan which was delicious and again the portion was so large she had enough for 2 meals. The atmosphere was perfect. I would give it 5 stars but we ordered a chef salad which was kind of ridiculous in that it was a few strips of cheese and some meats on some lettuce. Nothing to talk about, wouldn't get it again. But the worst was that we had a caesar take out that was so bad I threw it away. It was essentially some lettuce with a couple grape tomatoes and some onion. Yet another place where I'm perplexed by the negative reviews. I only ordered takeout, but the staff were polite to me and the interior had a nice atmosphere. I ordered the large meatball sub and the penne a la vodka with chicken. The sub was humongous, with six gigantic meatballs, and one of the best I've ever tasted. The pasta was even better than the sub, and the portion was HUGE. I'm not normally willing to spend $19 on an entree, but with portion sizes like this, I'm a happy camper. No, it didn't melt my face and take me to another dimension (generally the requirement for a five-star review), but it's awesome Italian food right down the street at reasonable prices. read more

We came for lunch and the place is empty. The ambience, service, quality of food and overall experience was fantastic. Chicken piccata and a steak and cheese as big as my head, and we only ate half. That's how large the portion was. Great beer selection with Peroni, face plant and fat tire being on draft. Canoli and sweet roll to go for desert later. Our server Pia was absolutely perfect. A word to the wise - DO NOT pay with cash. Another word to the wise - DO NOT confuse this with the Lucia's in Sterling Town Center. Tonight was a first for me as far as restaurant experience. Ordered two pasta dishes and a medium pizza for take out. Got to the restaurant and they had gotten the pizza order wrong (size), no big deal, they charged me the right amount for a medium as opposed to large. No harm, no foul. Take my bag with a Penne Arrabiata, kid's Fettucini Alfredo and Large (oops medium) pizza and head out the door. Check - $38 and tip the guy for bagging the food. Get home and the penne arrabiata is overcooked and the sauce is Ragu grade - no seasoning, small portion, $12,49 in a plastic container. Inedible. The pizza is literally crust with sauce and toppings only on the inner 3" radius (see pic). The kids alfredo was nothing an 8 year old wouldn't scarf down so no complaints there. I call the restaurant back to complain and the manager that answered the phone was apologetic and tried to make it right to his credit, but at that point who wants to drive back when you've already ordered, waited, and gone through the effort of picking up food. After taking one bite of the pizza I made the mistake of taking it and the arrabiata back for a refund. When I arrived at the store the owner met me at the counter. I said that I wanted a refund for the $12.49 pasta and $15 pizza. He offered to remake the pizza. At that point I explained that all I wanted was a refund (the pizza was returned whole minus one bite - which was all it took to determine it was awful). I said, no thanks, just a refund please. I was told I was being unreasonable and was refused a refund for the pizza. No joke. Had I paid with a card, which was my own dumb mistake for not doing so, they wouldn't have had the opportunity of taking a $15 donation from me. Enjoy it gentlemen. read more

David made it right, and I appreciate that, it is still an inappropriate way to behave. But at least he took the action to correct the issue..... I am generally a very big fan of the food here. But today my stepfather and I tried to order a pizza. We order from here every single week, but when we spoke to David, a full 5 MINUTES after the cut off time for the half price pizza we were treated to horrible rudeness by David. Now I realize that we do this weekly, sometime several times a week, and we may have been reminded of this in the past. However David was extremely rude saying "He told us last week" that the deal ends at 915. The menu they sent around still says 10, he proceeded to tell my stepfather that he didn't want to get into a "pissing match" with him and made the pizza. We are regular customers and this behavior is completely unacceptable. I hope they realize they are losing customers with David's attitude. read more

I've eaten at this Lucia's three times now and I have always gotten take out - have not eaten in the restaurant yet. In their first week of opening, I decided to stop by and get some pasta. I got the "Penne con Funghi" with grilled chicken which is described as: "Pasta in a zesty creamy tomato sauce with lots of mushrooms". I assumed "zesty" meant it might be a bit spicy - but boy I was surprised. It was outrageously spicy - I couldn't eat it. Maybe it was just first week issues - but I will never order that dish again. My wife got the Penne a la Vodka - it was OK, but bland. The portions of both pastas was very small too - kind of surprising considering we spent over $40 on the pasta. I've also ordered a pepperoni pizza, the pizza isn't bad either, although a little too greasy - but I think I prefer Paisanos or Pomodoros - for me though it is the closest place (unless I want Papa Johns) - so I may be ordering pizza from there again. Yesterday I got the Chicken Parm sub - and it is definitely one of my favorites. I will likely be ordering that again from Lucia's but I think I will be avoiding their pasta. read more

Don't listen to the nay-sayers.... The subs here are amazing. I have a "sub club card" permanently in my purse! In addition, the Italian food and desserts are pretty scrumptious too.This restaurant is family owned & has 3 locations throughout northern VA (Herndon, Sterling, & Potomac Falls) - I've visited all 3 locations. The Potomac Falls location greatly surpasses the Sterling & Herndon locations. Potomac Falls is a cleaner looking restaurant and the service is wonderful. I went there today and bought a sub for $10.02 - gave the guy a $20, and he said "I got you on that 2 cents" and proceeded to hand me a $10 in change. He then said "stress free is the way to be". That's a level of customer service that would keep me coming back even if the food was just mediocre (which, again, is not the case). Ditch the subways, quiznos & other chain sub places of the world and check out Lucia's.... you'll be happy you did! **Comment for the restaurant, model the Herndon/Sterling locations after the Potomac Falls one. If you looking for tasty, fresh, flavorful, hot food than turn around and walk away. If tasteless, frozen, bland, burnt food is your thing than you've found the right place. From the moment we walked in, I could tell that this place had no idea what it was doing. There was no host, waiting at the front, but instead of having a visible "Please wait to be seated sign" or having someone calmly tell us to wait for the host, we were yelled at by 3 different people to stay by the front. It was a little overly dramatic, desperate, and rude. We ordered the Arancini (riceballs), a Mediterranean salad, and a large Focaccia pizza. The server was a little confused about the menu, but after asking a manager/chef she was able to clarify questions. The Arancini were COLD on the inside and weren't really that good........ The salad had things in it that weren't mentioned on the menu (liked pickled cauliflower). The pizza arrived at the table with burn edges.... I was shocked that someone let it leave the kitchen in that state. And once you bit into the pizza it was cold. The sauce was bland and the dough had no flavor. The cheese was barely melted on. I'm convinced that it started out FROZEN! When the server asked how the food was, we mentioned that it needed more flavor. We were met with a stiff smile and a "the chef likes to keep things simple." SIMPLE DOES NOT MEAN BLAND! We weren't the only ones who seemed to be unhappy with the food. A lady at another table kept smelling the food (as if she found it distasteful) and trying to get her husband to try her meal. The reason I'm rating this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the server was attentive and nice (for the most part) and the place was clean. The food, however, was AWFUL! This place has something that most restaurants in this area don't have - ambiance. I've been here more than a handful of times and I've ordered pretty much one of everything on the menu including pizza, pasta, sub, calzone, salads and dessert. When it comes to taste I would say it's pretty good and much more authentic than an Olive Garden or a hole-in-the-wall place. They start every meal with free bread and seasoned olive oil for dipping - win. I can't tell you enough how genuine the servers are and the host and hostess. The owner has casually chatted with my wife and I numerous times and everything has always been pleasant. I love going there and I always know that I'll have a satisfying meal with respectful service. We ordered pizza for delivery once and they added a bag of free cookies for it being our first order and the delivery man was overly respectful and extremely nice and it came quickkkk. Coolest part of this place is the small market they have along with the massive dessert and gelato counter. Much of what they have is delivered from New York City so it's all over the top in taste. Last piece I'll add is that they have a small bar off the back of the dinning area - quiet and intimate every time I've been. I'm looking forward to having a drink there one evening. The outside seating is limited but we've sat there a few times and have enjoyed it. Overall this place wins my business. The turnover in this location has been bad over the years, but finally there is a decent place that has gone in and stayed. The ambiance of the restaurant is one of my favorite things. It gives off the vibe of a high end family run Italian restaurant. The food is above average and staff are always friendly. We stop in here about twice a week for gelato, occasionaly for cookies or dessert items if we have dinner guests. The gelato really is terrific, and has maybe become too much of a habit for us! I've only had dinner here once, and we sat at the bar, but that was great with the same great service and friendly attitude.
