The first time, I had my husband's name tatted on my inner wrist. (Yes, he also got my name on his wrist. We've been together 20+ years so we figured by now, we are safe from suffering the "Getting lover's name tattoo and promptly breaking up" curse.) I knew from that first tattoo that it wouldn't be my last. As Hung said, "you'll be back more". My husband is also thinking of his second one. I lost a beloved pet last year in the most devastating and traumatic way. I have been thinking of how to honor him (and our other kitties) to show my gratitude for their lives spent at my side. I decided on one that I knew I would be happy carrying for life and that would embody the feelings that I feel. I'm happy that I waited until now, because tattoos are so personal and mine hold such meanings to me. Hung delivered again. I, being over the ripe old age of ;), was acting a little "neurotic"and sent Hung a bazillion images of my cat and my drawings. He was so patient with me. Short summary: Called same-day & Anna was available; texted a text design (one script line + one monospaced line) that I drafted on my phone; was able to come in asap (our hotel was 10 mins away); Anna is super cool to talk to & the tattoo was not only affordable but came out perfect, healed very well, & I will definitively return next time I'm in Minneapolis bc I love this place so much. Story: Soooo I visited MN for a concert & knew I was going to hit up a tattoo parlour. I wrote the top line of my tattoo 5+ years ago, and the second line when I was an adolescent. I'm obsessed w getting tattoos in cities I visit as "souvenirs," but I didn't have the idea to combine these 2 lines into 1 piece until literally that morning. I searched on Yelp (obv) for tattoo places & rly liked the reviews for Guns N' Needles Tattoo. Called, sent my design (which wasn't perfectly centered), and Anna had it fixed + printed prior to my arrival. One of her size options was larger than I envisioned it, and I immediately LOVED it (location: left inner wrist). Anna is so cool to talk to; the time flew by & it honestly felt like I was only there for 3 mins (it was longer than that.) But still quick. An hr at most. I'm so ecstatic that she had printed out the larger version of it bc now the top line (which is in a cursive font I chose) spans my entire wrist & feels even more self-defining. I would come back here in a heartbeat. Verrrrrry clean, organized place. They played some Deftones songs. I kept saying, "Omg I love this song." I don't really know what more you can ask. We parked on the adjacent street. She was so sweet & I felt confident that I could voice any concerns if there were any, etc. Anna gave me printed aftercare instructions and her contact info; my tattoo healed perfectly. I even sent a photo of what I wanted and the guy said yes we can do it even with a quote and all . It was a very big disappointment .Because they wasted my time, energy and were rude about it as well .They could've at least just called me the day before and say that the tattoo was too challenging or something. In the end, I got it done, but I got it done at a better shop. I just will never give this place to business because of their lack of professionalism in keeping appointments and not giving enough time if they can't do it they should've called ahead of time to cancel if they needed to. So, I made an appointment. The BEST decision I ever made. Daniel sat with me and we designed a set of 6 Keith Haring "Dancing Men" for my left forearm. He recommended Jared to do the actual tattoo. In a virtually painless 2 and a half hour session, Jared gave me a work of art that people are convinced is a decal. I was so pleased that I took a photograph of a lithograph I own by MC Escher, and brought it to Daniel. Together, we designed a tattoo for my Right forearm, and again Jared rendered a phenomenal tattoo.

We had three visits for design; one where I left a deposit, one where we modified my design and one where I met my artist. Daniel was very good at listening to what I wanted -- even when I wasn't certain and modifed based on that. In my opinion he went above and beyond in this regard, and I believe he could tell I was a bit anxious, as I wanted a larger piece on my arm as a working profession. So I had high expectations and was picky and he handled it wonderfully. Daniel did a good job selecting a "transition" piece for the tattoo as well and offered me a few options. Keta was phenomenal. She helped cut some of my anxiety, was talkative, and kind. She needed help with placement as we couldn't quite get it right -- we both felt off about the spot and Daniel was happy to help with this as he had a vision. She was extremely skilled, took her time, took breaks to stay focused / sharp, and was in tune throughout my five hour (roughly) process. Her touch is light and effective. Her execution of the artwork was beyond anything i expected. My one complaint is due to numerous placements of the design, this made it challenging determining what dots were intended to be there and which weren't (may request an additional dot or two to fix evenness at some point but this is expected). When i drew this to her attention she was happy to add a few dots for evenness. Overall I am super pleased with my tattoo and am so excited to continue adding to my sleeve. I already have a follow up appointment scheduled to continue building the sleeve to add color and can't wait to see what is done with that.

On the way we passed by Dragonland Tattoo and decided to walk in and see what it's like. As soon as we walked in you could tell it was a reputable shop. The wall was covered in Best Of and NTA awards. I've been wanting to get a star tattoo for a few years now and was surprised to find that they could get me in pretty much right away, so I figured what the heck let's do it! I got a quarter size outline of a star on my right wrist and it took all of 30 minutes from when we walked in just to check it out to walking out with my tat exactly how I had imagined :) My niece's boyfriend got a rose tattoo on his forearm and was able to get in right after me. Our artist Dustin was awesome and eased my tattoo anxiety, making my experience go much more smoothly than my overthinking brain expected. I would encourage an appointment and consultation for most tattoos as we got small, simple ones that didn't really require one. I will definitely be back if I work up the courage to start the sleeve tattoo I've been thinking about getting. I would highly recommend Dragonland Tattoo, 5 stars from us!!!

Ultimately - we decided to check out other shops in the area and found Grey Duck which ended up being best case scenario! We walked in and were helped immediately by Angel (@angelmontoyatattoos) who was able to get all three of us in for our sister tattoos at $100 a piece! He was kind, laidback, and incredibly patient which I really appreciated. Getting a tattoo is a lifelong commitment and having an artist who says things like "I will re-stencil as many times as we need to get it perfect so take your time and make sure you love the placement!" is SO important. Especially because my sisters are younger I love that they felt comfortable and empowered to make every decision they needed to without pressure! Shop was clean, the vibes were on point, we had a blast, and we left loving the work we got done! I truly couldn't ask for a better walk-in experience.

Several months before, I received some basic information and instructions and then was emailed more information about a week or so before the appointment. I was a little anxious at first because there were so many guidelines and rules, but the check-in process was quite seamless, and you can tell that the studio cares about health, safety, inclusivity, and security - which is so important! Jes was kind and thorough in explaining the process and aftercare and I absolutely love her work. I hope to be back again!
