Lucio's has recently started serving lunch in addition to dinner. I was lucky enough to attend a little Yelp lunch here hosted by the lovely Patricia S. This was my first time to Lucio's and it was great! The parking is a bit tricky, small slanted spots on the side of the road, but the road isn't too small or busy, so it was all good. The service was pleasant and friendly without being too overbearing. The food was very good. My absolute favorite item of the meal was the appetizer spinach dip with homemade pita chips. I will be back if only for that alone! Delicious! I had the crab cake sandwich with apple slaw, which was good and a little spicy. The sweet potato fries were very good. Our table shared several desserts. The brownie was good and quite rich and was served with vanilla ice cream. There was also the crazy cupcake (as I have deemed it). The cupcake was a black bean and chocolate cupcake with parsnip frosting served on a tomato and cayenne sauce. I know that cupcakes were all the craze for a while, and I love cupcakes, but skip this one. I don't drink, but I find it interesting that this place is BYOB and has a wine list. Is that normal? As one of my dining companions pointed out, the wine list was void of years for the wines, which even I know is a mistake. Overall, I was pleased with my lunch. I would give the spinach dip and pita chips 5 stars! The crab cake sandwich was spicy but there were many more flavors to it. This quiet little neighborhood spot is an under the radar gem hidden in Montrose. Outstanding food, served with grace, in an unpretentious setting. The crab cakes are for real, lumps of crab. Okay to start...4 stars is due to the BYOB. 5 stars for BYOB and flavors and 3 stars if portion is accounted for (honestly with that, 3 is generous). Fiancé and I came here on a whim, as I had been desperately seeking places to bring a superb pinot noir we had snagged, as we don't make a ton of pinot type dishes at home. Valet was to be expected, so that was okay. Ambiance (4) - The place is definitely dark and cute, which we like. It has personality, especially for a wine bar, and is a nice place to have a date night. The chef can be a bit loud, in my opinion, so if you sit in one of the tables by the kitchen, just beware, but it didn't detract too much from the overall mood. Service (4.5) - Our waiter did a great job. I try to reserve my 5s for unreal service, but our waiter really was attentive. He provided a lot of very good suggestions, and he checked in on us the appropriate amount of times. Appetizers (2 in value, 4 in taste, so 3?) - Okay these portions were ALMOST insulting. Seriously? A cheese plate for $15 with three SLICES of cheese? That's a bit much, even for me. I should have looked at the reviews before ordering. The calamari was good, and the sauces were great, but $14 for that portion was also a bit much. Luckily we had the bread which was good to make up for some of it, but I would try other appetizers before ordering these just due to value. Entrees are almost the same! Fiancé got the lamb, which really had an AMAZING flavor. We were pretty blown away. But there was literally no side that came with the $40 dish, and the amount of lamb by itself didn't seem to really warrant that without some mashed potatoes or something. The duck was a 4 with a bit more of a solid portion but suffering from the same issue of needing a side that could've been thrown in given the price. This place was a tricky one for us. It edged the 4 because I've become a wine snob, and I hate paying 2x+ markup for a bottle. For us, despite the silly portion sizes, the $8 corking fee allowed us to enjoy a very good, but very small, meal without the crazy wine markup. We intend to come back with a good bottle in hand, but we may try some other appetizers, or may opt to start somewhere else. read more

This review is based on lunch. Food is good but for the price I think I would rather just come for dinner instead since the dinner prices are not that much more. Came here for lunch on a whim, got there before 12 and there were no other customers in the restaurant. Their lunch menu was small and a bit pricey, each entree is around $15 or more. The portions are also very small, my friend got the fish and chips and at $15 it only came with 2 small pieces of fish and a small portion of fries. I guess I am used to seeing beastly portions down here in Texas. I got the salmon and it was good, not the best I've had but good. Not sure I would want to pay $17 for that again though. In summery I would describe this restaurant as super casual, laid back and friendly. Walking in, kitchen was to the left and place is very cozy, yet could not smell any cooking, good ventilation system. Our waitress/host offered a table, I did not like it, was close to kitchen and she gladly seated us at place of our choice. This is a Byob so we brought our wine, waitress provided ice to chill. We have been to Lucio's several times over the past couple of years and have always enjoyed it. Love the BYOB option and the food is delicious. I will say though the portions are small for the prices. Wish the waitress would have not changed my mind about how I wanted my filet cooked. Came out undercooked like I expected. First of all, remember to BYOB since you have the option! (With an $8 courage fee though) and secondly, valet parking is valet. You might as well use it unless you're okay with parking far or potentially getting towed. This is a pretty nice quaint and intimate restaurant. Everyone was very welcoming upon entry. We were very happy with the services performed by Steven tonight. We started off the night with Crispy Calamari, a Crab Cake, and Steamed Clams with Chorizo. The Calamari had a excellent dips to go along. The Crab Cake and Steamed Mussels were excellent as well. For our entrees, we had the Sea Scallops, Australian Lamb Rack, Cold Smoke Duck Breast, the Hangar Steak, Glazed Short Ribs, and the Salmon. All the dishes were delicious, but my favorite were the Lamb Rack and Duck Breast. Everything was cooked to perfection. Perfection meaning if you asked for medium rare, it's actually medium rare. For dessert, we tried all three desserts, which consisted of Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée, Chocolate Brownie, and Brioche Bread Pudding. Let me tell you, the Bread Pudding was out of this world and the brownie was warm, rich, and gooey on the inside. The Crème brûlée was tasty too but was my least favorite out of the three. We went to Lucio's on a recent Saturday night. Valet parking was very easy and complementary. The valet's service deserves a tip. The restaurant was pretty full but they had our table held for our reservation and we were seated immediately. We brought a bottle of rosé and they put it in an ice bucket after opening it for us. I started with the clams and chorizo (one of my favorites) and my wife had the goat cheese salad. Both were fabulous as always. For dinner my wife got the tuna which she does almost every time we go there. I was going to get the short rib, which is one of the entrees I have not tried before, but changed my mind when the served told me about the special, 18 oz ribeye. It was well worth it, seasoned well and cooked to perfection. Brought some home with me as it was too big and it was great the next day with some eggs. For dessert we shared the brownie and it was everything a brownie should be, rich and gooey. The price points of the dishes are all reasonable especially considering you can bring your own wine and save the normal 3-4x markup on a restaurant's wine. In previous visits we have had the crab cakes, calamari, two different soups, tomato and burrata salad, and every entree except for the pork duo and short ribs. I was excited to try Lucio's after reading the reviews and picked it for my birthday celebration but I regret it , since there are many other places that are better. I was disappointed initially at how unfriendly the hostess/waitress was. The interior of the restaurant is very plain also. For our appetizers, we ordered the cheese plate which was tiny. The filet mignon carpaccio was delicious though. I liked the fact it was BYOB. My son ordered the steak which was good, and his wife ordered the chef's special ( a fatty fish) which she liked. However, I was very disappointed in the short rib; the size of the short rib was tiny and it was not the best I have had. It worth trying Lucio's but I will not be going back. read more

I don't usually post reviews, but since this was easily one of my top 5 dining experiences of all time, I wanted to make sure to pass along my compliments. The restaurant atmosphere is elegant, but not overstated, and it was not overly loud, even though we dined a Saturday night. The waitstaff are very knowledgeable and gave great suggestions on both food and wine. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. The crab cake appetizer was perfect, as were the steamed clams and chorizo. My short rib was extremely tender and paired well with the garlic risotto. While I loved my meal, my husband's tuna was even better! This is the best tuna I have ever tasted- practically melts in your mouth. Even though we were pretty full, we could not resist trying the creme brulee, and I'm glad we did. It was delicious, on par with the rest of our meal. For my birthday this year, we opted for Lucio's BYOB and Grill. It's been bookmarked for years now, and I finally had an excuse to dine there. When we walked in, it was quiet. I mean, drop-your-fork-and-the-windows-shatter-quiet! The restaurant was empty. Now, before you think that we were eating at some unusual time, let me clarify for you; it was 8pm on a Thursday evening. Normal...? I thought so. We browsed the menu and began with a special tuna beef tar-tar. As soon as we put in our order, we saw a couple come with a bottle. They were seated; then, there was another and another! It was so nice to know that we weren't the only ones eating on Thursday evening at Lucio's! Our starter was fantastic. It was just the right amount and made us anticipate our entrees! We opted for the filet mignon and lamb chops (individually, of course). It really was wonderful. I didn't like my husband's lamb, but he liked it, so no complaints. My FM was fabulous. Melt in your mouth, fabulous. I feel my mouth watering as I write this! The accompanying asparagus and potatoes were just the right accouterments! It is a very small restaurant a few blocks from Allen Pkwy on Taft. They have valet parking, I saw many open valet spaces and it didn't seem many people use that service. So, the restaurant is tiny, but very cozy. I would like to say that I was surprised at how small the restaurant was. I went in and it was pretty busy. I only ordered an appetizer because although I had planned to have dinner, I was still suffering from an earlier encounter with my office's Christmas party food that didn't go so well.It was also already after 9, it was Thursday and work the next day was looking harder and harder by the minute. I did order the crab cakes as an appetizer and they were very good. Good enough to ensure I will visit them again. The serrvice was OK, nothing stood out for me. I think this place has potential to be a great date spot. Very cozy and although it wasn't quiet, one could definitely have a conversation without interruption. A great dinner venue where you can have a decent conversation, a delicious meal and BYOB wines ($8 corkage). The calamari is a crispy and addictive appetiser. The creamy Spanish dip while tasty is very filling. Better with a bigger crowd. Highly recommends -- the duck is perfectly cooked: tender, juicy. I came here with my parents and bf for my birthday dinner (with a travelzoo coupon) and I enjoyed it, though it wasn't spectacular in my book. I recommend taking advantage of the BYOB concept and grabbing a bottle before you come! To start off, the complimentary toasted bread slices they give is really yummy! My mom liked it a lot. The four of us ordered the crab cakes, spinach dip, seared ahi tuna, smoked duck breast, Atlantic salmon, proscuitto wrapped pork chop, and a side of butternut squash risotto. I really liked the crab cakes- they were crispy on the outside and full of crab meat on the inside. The spinach dip was hot and came with a big portion of pita chips, which were also very good. As for the entrees, we really only enjoyed the smoked duck and the seared tuna. The duck had a great smoky flavor and was cooked perfectly! And the wasabi mashed potatoes that the seared tuna came with was also really interesting. My salmon, however, was too bland, and the bf thought his proscuitto wrapped pork was too tough. The butternut squash risotto was something that I really looked forward to and was disappointed by :(. The side was a tiny portion (even though it was $8!), and it was just risotto with a few chunks of butternut squash in it. The flavor of the squash wasn't in the risotto itself, and it was actually kind of bland. All in all, though, it was a good experience. The service was fine (though not awesome) and the restaurant has a big patio where you can sit outside when the weather is nice. Lucio's is a hidden gem for those in the Montrose area! Located at West Dallas and Taft, this little place sees a lot of action; so expect to make reservations and have some difficulty with parking. I recommend valet because there is typically a tow truck nearby to catch those parking in the residential neighborhood across the street. The interior features a handful of white linen-covered tables and décor from local artists. Locals love that this is a BYOB with a low corking fee ($5). The menu, while quaint, is delicious. Since my foodie friends and I are strong believers in sharing, I have been able to sample quite a few dishes. The most common sound from our dinner table was a buzz of "MMM..." They have an above-average crab cake as an appetizer option. The jumbo lump crab meat is delish and the portion size is perfect for two to three to have a hearty serving. For your meat and potatoes lover, I definitely recommend the filet - super juicy on a bed of mashed potatoes and asparagus. The chef does a nightly unique fish special. This is hit or miss. Most of the time he seems to be on his game, yet this last time we found the cod to have an overwhelming taste of butter. (Yes Paula Deen, there is such a thing as too much butter!) They ran out of the special early in the evening, so if it sounds good during your waiter's pitch- make sure to have him reserve your plate while your party reviews the menu. Ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes was the favored dish amongst my crew. With great flavor, my friends have admitted to many attempts of recreating this dish only to fall short. My next mission is to get in good with the chef to learn his secret to this fluffy side dish of perfection. My go-to option would be the U10 Scallops with Butternut Squash Risotto. YUM! Cooked to perfection and plated beautifully, this is my idea of healthy comfort food. The sweet squash in combination with the warm risotto brings a melt-in-your-mouth sensation that will keep you coming back to Lucio's. (If I was simply discussing this dish, there would be an extra star or two involved in my rating.) Two things cause Lucio's to fall short on my scale. 1.) Slow service- make sure you have a good bottle of wine and good company because I think a long dinner is a part of the dining experience at Lucio's. If they were to offer a bread selection to the table, it may make the wait more bearable. They will bring a baguette upon your request. 2.) Awful ventilation- symptoms may include itchy eyes due to exhales of a smoky kitchen and the necessity of a change of clothes/secret stash of dry shampoo to erase the inevitable after-dinner smell of your meal. read more

I usually don't go to nice places like this but my friends insisted. They also insisted on paying so I couldn't argue with that. I liked how small the place was. The lighting was dim, and would be a good place for date night. Very intimate setting, you could say. For appetizers we ordered the steamed clams, beef carpaccio, and corn soup. All were delicious. I wanted to be bold and try the beef carpaccio (beef is raw), and I enjoyed it. The baby arugula was sharp and had a nice bite, just the way I like it. Flavors complemented each other nicely, although I thought they'd put more Parmesan or truffle oil on top. The truffle oil was super super subtle--almost unnoticeable. MAIN COURSES: I got the scallops with butternut squash risotto. I really enjoyed the risotto and thought the butternut squash added a nice and extra creamy flavor to it. The scallops were cooked just right. Not rubbery, but it was a little salty to me. My friends got the filet mignon and the flounder with lump crab risotto. They enjoyed theirs. For dessert: We all ordered one of each dessert for the night and tried them all. There were three tonight: the brownie and raspberry sorbet, the raisin bread pudding with vanilla ice cream, and the vanilla bean creme brûlée with a blueberry coulée. The desserts were fantastic. Bread pudding was soft and not soggy. The creme brûlée was firm and not a creamy mess. The brownie was decadent but the raspberry sorbet added a fresh balance to it. TIP: The place is BYOB so we brought a pink moscato with us to enjoy. There is an $8 cork fee if you bring your own bottle. The music selection was great and really surprised me because it's not exactly mainstream. I would describe it as chill, melodic electronic--which is the stuff I've reviewed for work and what I've been into this year. Compliments to whoever put the playlist together. As the night got later, more people started coming in and the service was starting to get slow, but our waiter was always professional and organized. I enjoyed dinner and it didn't fill me up to the point where I couldn't eat another bite, but I was satisfied coming out of the restaurant. The portions are smaller than what you'd find in other restaurants in Houston (as we all know Texas portions can be huge), so if you're starving--don't come here haha. Excellent date night option. My husband surprised me with dinner there and a play afterwards. First off, curbside valet parking is complimentary, so no need to find parking in this tight area. Next, our waiter Jonathon was incredibly professional, polite and helpful with the menu as he was with our service. For appetizers we had the goat cheese salad - exceptionally fresh with light apple cider vinegar dressing. The goat cheese is fried in a little ball. Super delicious way to start. My husband had the calamari that came with a savory lemon aioli and garlic butter. He enjoyed it as I don't eat it. He had the hangar steak and I had the halibut. The halibut was buttery and very good. The sauce was slightly salty. Dessert was a brownie with a cherry sorbet. This has to be one of the best desserts I've had. That cherry sorbet was knock-out amazing. The place is quaint with a quiet atmosphere and the service is very good. The ambiance is not jaw-dropping. We brought our own red wine and the corking fee is $8. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is the ambiance & I think the side options are repetitive from the dishes. I read from other reviews that this makes a good date night spot. This I would agree with! It's very cozy and romantic with its dimly lit, tiny atmosphere. The service was outstanding as well. Another plus to this place, BYOB! You can't beat that! But with all of these plusses, I find it hard to give them an excellent rating based on the food. I was simply not blow away by most of the food. The FOOD: - Crispy Calamari: This was the best thing we ate that night. The calamari were done well, not chewy and had great flavor. The batter was perfectly adhered and had the perfect amount of crunch and explosion of flavor. Combined with the two sauces for dipping, I was impressed by this appetizer! Price: $14 Rating: 5 - Artisan Cheese Plate: This was just ok. The 3 cheeses in our assortment were nothing to write home about, and the servings of cheeses were so tiny! Makes it hard to share with other people. Price: $15 Rating: 3 - Heirloom Tomato Salad: Having lately gotten on the heirloom tomato salad kick, I have been getting one everywhere I go! I was excited to see what this would be. Unfortunately, it was kind of plain. Just a slice of tomato, with burrata cheese and some other minor accompaniments. Twas bland. This made me sad. Price: $12 Rating: 2 - Butternut Squash Risotto: This was a pretty good side dish. I actually did enjoy this. Very creamy and flavorful. Price: $10 Rating: 4 - Pork Loin & Pork Belly: So.....I really wanted the Crusted Yellow Fin Tuna, but they were out! We had to settle with this dish. And settle we did. This was a very mediocre entrée. The pork loin was done well and the sauce paired ok with it, but the pork belly was just not that flavorful, fatty or tender. Having had many a pork belly at many of Asian establishments, I was expecting a mouth watering effect, to which I did not receive with this. Price: $26 Rating: 3 - Brioche Bread Pudding: With compliments from the chef that night due to it being the day after Thanksgiving, we were lucky enough to taste this little jewel for free! AMAZING. I have to give them props here, this was excellent! Price: $10 Rating: 5 Overall: The atmosphere is cute. I like the location. The service was great! The food was ok. I may come back to try the tuna and hopefully they have it then. I will also get the calamari and bread pudding again. I will cross my fingers that it will be better next time.
