I really wish there were more Asian food places in Wisconsin but due to the smaller Asian population, it's really difficult to find decent Chinese food places. Panda Express and mall court Chinese food is NOT representative of Chinese food. Trader Joe's orange chicken is actually better tasting IMO. I really wanted yummy Chinese baked goods- think custard egg tarts, Chinese pastries, moon cake (for the Mid-Autumn festival) and I was elated to find this Bakery. It's located in a strip mall with an Asian grocery store and a couple of decent Chinese restaurants (for Wisconsin standards). Lucky Bakery has a variety of baked goods and their moon cakes were delicious albeit a little pricey. I opted for a couple and they threw in a cute red gift box. The recipients of my mooncakes really liked them so I will definitely return to try that- and the BBQ meats. I definitely recommend checking out this plaza if you're in SE Wisconsin and want to try some Asian food/buy some Asian groceries. read more

I bought four to take home , but I decided to eat one in the car . We were visiting from Chicago and surprised to see a small enclave of Chinese stores here! Weren't expecting much of a bakery in Wisconsin but was really impressed after trying a bunch of their goodies! Even their cha siu was better than some places in Chicago's Chinatown. (I just wish it wasn't dyed as red.) Otherwise it was very tender and delicious! Moon cakes were also delicious. Can't wait to return and make this a weekend trip staple of ours! read more

This is probably the bakery that we visit most often in Milwaukee. The owner is always friendly and helpful. The Cantonese style buns and pastries are authentic and fresh. They also make special traditional pastries for Chinese traditional holidays. Mooncakes for Mid-autumn festival, Zongzi for Dragon Boat Festival, Sweet Rice Cakes in gold fish shape for Lunar New Year... In addition, they serve savory Cantonese style traditional dishes for take-out. As Cantonese, we feel lucky to have a bakery like this in Milwaukee. read more

Duck is still amazing. The other meats look super authentic too - but I'm sticking with duck because I have to drive out of the way to come here and when I'm here I always just want the duck. And by the time I've added the buns, I can't justify spending more money for just me and hubby. Steamed pork buns are always filled with tons of meat. Sometimes I get them at supermarkets and they have so little filling that I'm left with more than half of just plain bun. But not these - I can enjoy my meats with every last drop of the bun. The fried red bean buns are also soooo delicious. Super chewy, also filled to the brim, and good even the day after. Or the next. Also a note on COVID - they are very conscientious. They've actually built a transparent plastic wall to separate the staff from the customers. If there are a lot of customers inside, you can wait outside. What an effort! You won't be making small conversation with the staff here (unless you speak Chinese). But picking out what you need and relaying that info is straight forward and easy enough. read more

I've gone here a few times and the other times were fine. However, I intentionally planned my trip back home (5-hour drive) around when they would open on a Sunday to hopefully grab some buns for the long trip and before they run out! To my surprise, they had no buns available at 10:30AM (opened at 10AM). They still had their wife cakes in the display along with some of their other flakey cakes that can be kept for a few days, but baked or steamed buns? None. I asked if they were going to make any for that day and said they would have some in the afternoon. I hate to be THAT person, but if you only open a few times a week and consider yourself a bakery along with selling bbq foods, you would think to have some bakery goods at the time of opening? I love their buns (especially when it is the only place in the area with this type of stuff) and would love to keep supporting them, but keep your expectations low!!!! read more

Very lucky to have a place like this in Milwaukee. I would drive to Chicago for bbq pork and buns but now I can drive 15 minutes!! The owner is so sweet. I try to practice my Chinese with her every time I go. Also, I always end up chatting with some really amazing customers while waiting in line. Lucky Bakery & BBQ is my go to place to get Asian flavored meats to go. It's also the only place in the Milwaukee area that has these specialty meats. You can expect to find a whole roast pork pig, roast duck, chicken feet, bbq pork, boiled whole chicken, etc. I came here Friday after work around 6pm and they were out of roast pork and roast duck. I recommend coming in early on the weekends for the best selection of meats and baked goods. Don't leave this place without picking up some baked goods. There are bbq pork buns, egg tarts, red sesame bean balls, rice crepes etc. If you're craving dim sum, you can find some of the common dishes here. You can find this little gem tucked in a strip mall with many other Asian restaurants. I've been to this place a few times and I have kept it a secret because i want it all for myself! Everything is delicious. Even better that it's so affordable. First off, their whole roasted ducks are $21 each. I know! It's unheard of. You're not getting a tiny duck with no flavor. It's the exact opposite. It's a good size duck; juicy and tender meat. You may call ahead to order but I went on a Sunday morning and was able to get 2 even if the 6 people ahead of me each ordered one too. Secondly, their roasted pork is exactly what you want it to be. Succulent. Seasoned. Beautiful crispy skin. Perfect fat to meat ratio. It melts in your mouth. You won't be able to resist after a bite. It's located in a strip mall between Pho Cali and an Asian food market, so parking is plenty. The establishment is tiny and can be packed. Stumbled upon this place before stopping for dinner next door at Sze Chuan. I actually did not realize the place was closed (I came in at 805), but the friendly lady still allowed me to buy baked goods. Having only moved in two days ago and coming from a place that has really good Asian bbq/baked goods, I was ecstatic to find this location by happenstance! Bought the bbq pork bun and hot dog bun, along with sesame balls. I did not get to try the bbq, but this will be a must for the next time I come in! Came here for the first time last week back and right off the back, I'll definitely be coming back. Heard about this place thanks to some friends, so i went and checked it out. Its in an unassuming little shopping plaza so it could be easy to miss, but you should really stop by. Didn't try out any of their baked goods, only went in to buy some of their cook meats. On my first trip I only got the Roast Pork w/ Crispy Skin and the Honey Glazed BBQ pork. the roast pork w/ crispy skin, the skin itself wasn't as crispy as I would've liked, but the pork so so darn good. it felt as if it melted in my mouth. The Honey glazed BBQ Pork was quite good too. If you ever had BBQ pork from other Chinese places, this is basically what it is. but it was nice and tender, right amount of fat and meat to make it succulent as heck. My only regret was not getting more as they sell it by the pounds. So whether you're buying it for a party, or just for yourself I definitely recommend coming here to get some food. read more

Portions are large but the quality of the food, textures, and flavors are mediocre. The BBQ pork I tried was very lean, with a simple sweet sauce, and no char. It didn't seem to be marinated much and was a bit overcooked. The buns are fairly bland overall, not even close to the quality of bakery goods you'll find in Chicago Chinatown. Not bad, but something you'd really only eat if you had no better choices available. With that said though, prices are pretty low -- so if you don't feel like cooking, grabbing a bunch of bakery items here is a solid choice. read more

This place is crazy delicious and crazy cheap. I got a whole roast duck for only $21 which I think is extremely affordable considering most ducks you find at the grocery store are over $30. I also got a bbq pork bun which was massive, extremely tasty and only $1.25. It is about 12-20 minutes outside of downtown Milwaukee depending on traffic but definitely worth the drive. It is a true hole in the wall with many different option of roast chickens, ducks and pork. I will certainly be be back to try more items on their menu. read more

I love Chinese Bbq and I realy would like to get over more often to patronizing the business because as far as I know it's the only authentic Chinese Bbq in Milwaukee and the woman at the counter does an outstanding job as the face of the business. It's been more than a year since I last stopped by and I have been trying to get over for a while. The place was full with Asian people as always and I had to wait in line and when I got my turn the woman says long time no see so I said to her, you still remember me after more than a year and she says yah. I ask her how is business and she says good because I can't eat here all the time but when I do I want you to be here when I do. The place is still the small place with take out only and they now have a nice big sign with pictures and prices. I was going next door to the Asian store to get some duck wings to make Asian duck wings and I notice a new item on the menu, brined duck wings so I got some to take home. The duck wings are not very meaty just so you know but I like them and the brined duck wings had a thick flavorful glaze which was very good and I instantly thought of using them for a rich base Pho broth while adding some othe Asian flavors like ginger, soy and hoisin sauce to name a few. The broth ended up being rich and flavorful and will be great for Pho. With the hot Asian sausage, dumplings and noodles with some veggies from the Asian store next to them I should be able to make a good simple Pho at home. I love that this place is next to an Asian store and that between the two you can have rear Asian food from your kitchen. read more

I special ordered the roast pig and it was delicious! Give them a week's notice and you'll be happy you ordered from Lucky Bakery. I ordered a 44# pig which was more than enough to feed 28 guys for a picnic. I think the minimum is a 35# pig so be aware that you can't get anything less than that. Stopped in and got some takeout. We sat at a table insde and ate as we were so hungry and it was too clod for a picnic. We ordered the half cripsy peking duck which was sooooooo good and the pigs feet. The flavors were so on point and the meat was fall apart tender. Egg tarts which I love were fresh - perfectly sweet and great texture. I also got some great mung bean moon cakes and a green mung one which I think I actually liked more than my usual red mung bean ones. The sesame balls we crispy, light and still warm. I LOVE this place, and my family are regular customers here. I grew up in the Milwaukee area having to drive down to Chicago Chinatown in order to get some decent Chinese bakery or bbq goods. I have eaten Chinese BBQ duck probably 100000 times, and the duck here is just as, if not better, than the duck you can get from the best bbq shop in Chicago Chinatown. The pork belly is so good, and if you are adventurous-- try the chicken feet. They are so good; they're first fried and then braised in a savory/slightly sweet red sauce. The bakery items are pretty standard for a Chinese bakery and are very fresh; everything I've tried is good. I usually go for the cake roll with cream inside. I've come by on a couple of evenings just to check out the bakery (not quite the best time because almost everything is gone!). I noticed that most of the people who came by were mostly in for the BBQ and the chicken feet. The minimum for card is $10 as a note. Most items are only $1 from the bakery. My favorite so far that I've tried is the BBQ pork cake. That crust is so savory. I also really enjoyed the shrimp crepes (pretty cheap!).
