I discovered lucky dog as they were just getting started 7 years ago. At that time Scott was still experimenting with his black label - IIRC the initial batches were still amazing but lacked a bit of heat. Then he threw in Trinidad scorpions and wow, game changer. If you haven't tried it you haven't had real hot sauce - there I said it. Throughout these years I've always tried to keep some lucky dog around at home but they just go so quickly - every friend that had tried it wanted me to buy them some. The unique thing about lucky dog is that the sauces are packed with flavor, incredibly well balanced - never too much sweetness, vinegar, or too much capsaicin found in a majority of hot sauces out there. I lived in San Mateo for almost five years, and randomly ran across Lucky Dog at the San Mateo Co. Community College Farmers Market. I was never much of a hot sauce guy. Most hot sauces seemed to me to add more heat that took over the food than flavor that informed it. I've changed my tune, but Lucky Dog was my one of my gateway hot sauces. Lucky Dog's flavors are top notch, complex and hearty. I've moved away from San Mateo, but just placed my order for two bottles of Brown Label - Ridiculously Tasty Mustard Chipotle Hot Sauce, and I plan to keep myself stocked. My wife and I met Scott at the Hayward Farmers Market i dunno...ten-ish years ago? this was back when he only had 3 sauces - green/red/magenta*. He was just starting out and was already a hell of a salesman (but really though - he didn't really need to work too hard...the sauces have sold themselves from the very beginning). Since then we've had a constant supply of Lucky Dog in our pantry. mrs_Username_X loves the red label, I like the ones with the names En Espanol (but the red label might still be the best all-purpose hot sauce of all time). I've always enjoyed standing back and watching mrs_Username_X try to overpay for her hot sauce (while Scott tries to retaliate with an extra bottle or two). We've both enjoyed watching Scott expand his lineup (and exposure)...when we saw his sauces featured on Hot Ones we were so stoked for him. This guy loves making hot sauce and it's obvious with every glop. Also - Scott doesn't bother with novelty sauces with stupid names that you'll try once and abandon after they've burned a crater into your tongue. My fiancé and I came across Lucky Dog hot sauce about 3-4 years ago while checking out the various vendors at the Rib cook off in Reno. Our fridge has been known to be stocked full of hot sauce, in fact we have two dedicated shelfs to hot sauce, so of course we were going to give them a try! We fell in love. The sauce is incredible, the packaging is eye catching and the owner is passionate. They are located in the Bay Area so at the time we would only be able to purchase online or at the annual Rib cook off, which we would always grab 6+ bottles. Recently this mouth watering sauce has become available at a semi-local store for us to purchase as oppose to our annual Reno purchase. Now we are always stocked with LDHS and all other sauces in the fridge are forgotten and expired. Another draw to this sauce is the passion and enthusiasm that Scott, the hot sauce guy, puts into his work. Tho we have only seen him at the Reno Cook off booth, He rocks it! Green Label all the way! While many of their sauces are too hot for my taste, even though I grew up eating jalapenos, the Green Label is amazing and the best thing ever on fish, chicken or eggs. I first came across Lucky dog hot sauces when I lived across the street from Scott himself. I had never heard of his brand, but one of our neighbors gave us a bottle to try and we were hooked! That was about 7 or so years ago and it's been amazing to try all the different sauces he's created. My husbands favorite hands down is the "Year of the dog", and mine is either the "Brown label- Chipotle Mustard" or " Dia del perro"...but I can honestly say you can't go wrong with any of them. Trying a new hot sauce is always a gamble for me, I LOVE spicy, but the flavor can often turn me off. These are are both AMAZING, great heat and great flavor, I've been putting them on everything!
