Also I have celiac and my mom has gluten sensitivity however, we can miraculously eat their sourdough with no issues! There is anecdotal evidence that letting sourdough rise for 3 days, like what Alonso Baking does, makes it tolerable and easy to digest. I visit them at the farmer's market. I love everything I've gotten from them. Every time I go I get the foccacia bread and cut it into fourths heat it up and have a piece with coffee for breakfast. So many great toppings. Yesterday I tried their chocolate chip cookies. Addictive. I usually get snickerdoodles but they didn't have any. I went to the farmers market and let me tell you . The girl checking us out was RUDE . Kind of a Bword . Told someone about it they said that she was rude to someone else asking if their products have dairy on them . Bread is bland asf just like that girl who "serviced" us. This past Sunday was the first time I saw them at Newark Farmers Market (probably because I usually go late and they're probably sold out). I purchased the most delicious chocolate croissant as well as, a yummy cheese chocolate chip Danish and carrot pineapple bread that my husband loved! As I'm walking through the Bayfair Farmer's Market, I notice a huge line leading up to this stall with fresh baked breads and pastries. Alonso certainly caught my attention but I thought - there's no way they would have anything for a vegan to consume. Welp, I was wrong, and I'm glad I checked. They actually offer a wonderful slice of Vegan Pumpkin Bread ($4.25) that I could not refuse. It was their only vegan friendly option (I checked) but given that it was something intentionally made for plant based eaters, I was willing to treat myself just for today. Admittedly I tend to avoid added sugars or oil in my everyday life, but if I'm going to go "all out," I may as well purchase it from a local source. What's the verdict? ...YUM! Vegan or not, this pumpkin bread was amazing! Incredibly moist, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness that really made me happy I stopped for one. I wish they had more options but I will certainly take what I can get. Next time I'm in town at the market, I will definitely be coming back again for another slice of pumpkin bread. read more

OVERALL: I found Alonso's at the CSM farmer's market (Saturdays, 9am-1pm). I would suggest going early. They start to sell out as it gets later. They're the best bakery booth at this market. FOOD: The first time I went, I got an artichoke bread. This time, I got a pesto bread and a pastry. I was going to get the artichoke one again but they were out. I'm equally as pleased with the pesto bread and am glad I got to try something new. The pastry was an apricot strudel. It was good but I wish they used fresh fruit instead of apricot preserves. They sell many other types of pastries, cookies, breads (sliced loaves and artisan breads), and more. SERVICE: They're quick and efficient so there is never a line. The people working are friendly. Yes - this bakery is a true staple at Saturday's bayfair farmer's market. Get there early. They are fully set up by 8:30 am. The extensive savory and sweet options is amazing. The layout is very overwhelming if you are not careful. You may definitely go home with a cart filled with different breads and desserts. What I have always loved is that Alonso is not overly sweet. It is not headache sweet. They are not afraid of sugar but do not use it as the foundation for their baked goods. There are always different options. My personal favorite has been the savory sweets - the spinach crisscross pastry is absolutely my favorite. (I think they discontinued it) I love the jalapeno bread, the sourdough loaves of bread are all amazing. They do great cheese bread options. The cookies are nice as well. Not dry... good texture. They do not use preservatives so do not think about keeping the goods on your counter for a few days. I will say if you have a book club event, some people coming over - grab bread from here. It is so easy to lay out their baked goods in those Lunchable settings that everyone seems to enjoy so much. (Yes, I know they are charcuterie boards.) As you can see from other reviews, they have stands at many farmer's markets, but anyway, this review is specifically for their Los Gatos stand. Just the only stand there serving freshly cooked food, and in this case Mexican food. All I wanted was a Agua Fresca actually. Didn't want food. So, there were 2 people ahead of me. Cool. Gotta say, he was really nice, patient and answered all my questions with a smile on his face. He sells breads, assorted pastries, ready made pizzas, empanadas and cookies. You want it, he got it. I bought a seeded baguette and cranberry raisin bread. Both were top notch and delicious! Found this stand at the San Carlos Farmer's Market on a Sunday and got the sticky bun and a five cheese and pesto bread. The sticky bun was topped with pecans and was freakin delicious! It has a nice crunch, but is also soft at the same time. Perfect amount of sweetness too. As for the bread, it's super soft and freshly baked! It had just the right amount of cheese and pesto. I would suggest storing it in the freezer because the fridge dries it out. I will definitely be trying more baked goods from Alonso Bakery. read more

Alonso Baking and Foods is one of the vendors that we always purchase something from when we frequent the San Leandro Farmers Market. I believe they will be opening a storefront very soon if they haven't already done so. The baked goods we have tried here have tasted good to amazingly good! I rate the cookies and pastries I have tried 3 to 3.5 stars. Some of the items I've tried are their Snicker Doodle cookies, Bavarian Cone, Apple Cinnamon Cone, and Chocolate Croissant. All good and affordable just not outstanding! What stands out to us our their scrumptious breads! We have 3 favorite kinds of breads which we purchase from them. Cranberry Pecan Bread, Jalapeño Bread, and their Monkey Bread are all 5 star incredibly delicious!! That is saying something coming from me because I normally do not care for bread. Alonso's is the exception. This bakery puts quality ingredients in their loaves to come up with something truly delicious! Bravo! read more

I have tried both the spicy chicken and regular beef and though both were a bit bland. I think they would taste best if served with mole sauce. The table of baked goods set up at the farmer's market every week is quite long and comparable to the Brioche Bakery set-up, albeit less densly arranged. All of the breads and baked goodies are very reasonably priced. An 8" diameter focaccia pizza is $3.50 or 2 for $6.25. A larger rectangular size was only $5.50 or so. I think the focaccia breads maybe taste better if they were chewier. For the best results, bake or toast for a few minutes until the bottom is cripsy. read more
