I am writing this review after I just left the Lucky Frog. The previous reviews were really good. But no one mentioned that this place is very very pricey for what it is. For a small breakfast sandwich and some fresh fruit I paid $10. That isn't even including my drink. The bread that my sandwich was on was so dry. The waitress told me (the best she could, I don't think she really knows what I was saying to her) that it was supposed to be toasted. It really was just a dry roll. She took my roll back with my swiss cheese melted on it. Said they'd would toast it. I told her "don't worry about it. I don't care for for it. " She didn't understand me. Then I hear my plate go in the microwave and they nuke it to warm it up. Then she brings it back out to me with a couple pats of butter. The picture looks good but it's very deceiving. I paid more for this meal than I do at my favorite breakfast cafe named after a wildflower in clearwater. They tried hard but I think maybe too hard. Some of the fruit on my plate wasn't even ripe. My cantaloupe had no flavor. I think they should really take a look at their prices. $10 for a breakfast sandwich you can get down the road for much less is ridiculous. I wouldn't have mind paying that if this breakfast knocked my socks off but it totally missed the mark. read more

Every place has four plus stars on yelp and there is no way this place of four stars. The food was okay, but the cook was grouchy and refused to take a simple request to throw some butter in instead of oil with the spaetzle even though we we one of two parties in the restaurant at the time. read more

You know a German place will be good when staff/owners and random patrons are speaking German when you walk through the doors! Delicious and authentic German food. Reminded me of my Oma's meals and childhood in 1st Gen German family. The food was freshly prepared and delivered quickly. Perhaps the best red cabbage I have ever eaten. In addition, the owners and staff were friendly and informative. The restaurant has music events which looked like a blast. If interested in a Veal Shank, be sure to call ahead. They require 24 hours notice for this item. Excellent food, atmosphere, and evening. Will go back next time I am visiting Sarasota. read more

Fabulous find in Bradenton Publix shopping center. The schnitzel and sauerbraten were amazing. Pretty small place so reservations are a good idea. They provided fried potato peelings for munching while you wait for your meal. Sounds weird but tasted great; salty and crispy. 10/10 will go again before vacation is over. read more

That is tacky way to spin it back on me. And if your water is so bad, why not get a reverse osmosis system, or water treatment system? I'm just sayin. Went back for the 2nd time this past weekend. There was a one-man-band there on Saturday night, playing German music. We did not know it, but you have to make reservations on the nights they have live music. Fortunately, they had 2 small tables outside (right outside the front door) & we were able to take one of them. The evening was cool & windy, so it was very nice to sit outside & they had the front door to the restaurant open, so we could clearly hear the music. Because we were outside & the place was packed, we were worried that the service would be slow, but that was not the case. Same fast & friendly service was a pleasant surprise! We ordered a few beers & an appetizer of Potato Pancakes & Smoked Salmon - it was great. We were having such a nice time, we decided to stay and order dinner. Ordered Pork Schnitzel in sauce & Spaetzle and Sauerbraten, Spaetzle & the best Red Cabbage we have ever had. The restaurant is clean, service is fast & pleasant, the food is good. read more

Lucky Frog German Restaurant is a must visit when nearby! There was a 2-page gluten free menu with traditional German dishes for multiple courses. We were both very happy with our main courses - Sauerbraten and Beef tenderloin with roast potatoes, mushrooms, and onions. The crustless cheese cake with fresh homemade whipped cream and fruit was delicious. The woman who served us was friendly, knowledge about gluten free menu options, and attentive. The restaurant was reflective of traditional German culture and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. Our only regret was not bringing our kids. read more

We truly enjoy going to The Lucky Frog. So far we've had almost every main course on the menu and it is all delicious. The sauerbraten is exquisite and I love the red cabbage. It's smooth and delicious and I could eat the potato salad all day. There's nothing on this menu that we don't like. We look forward to our next visit. Great German Restaurant with Many Gluten Free Options I did not expect to find GF place tucked in the back of a strip mall, but we did. We are in town to escape the frigid northeast and found this place listed in the Find Me GF app. We started with the potato pancakes - lite and crispy with sides of lox and sour cream. My wife who is not allergic to Gluten had the Hungarian Goulash (GF) with Spaetzle (not GF). She liked them both. I sampled the Goulash and meat was tender and the sauce delicious. I had the schnitzel with hot potato salad. Wish it could be breaded, but the cream sauce was very good. The potatoe salad had a nice tang to it. We happened to be there during happy hour - buy one get one free (wine and beer only). I commented to the owner (who is from southern Germany) too bad they did not have schnapps. She suggested Underberg (an herbal digestive). I never heard of it, but it was a new experience and a nice way to end the meal. Food was good, however very pricey, especially considering the atmosphere and products bought from Aldi. My husband and I wanted to try something new, both ordered a combo plate and dessert, Bill came out to over $100. I have no issues paying for a great meal but I do expect at least a cloth napkin and table cloth if dinner for two is expected to be $100+. Waitress was nice but definitely wouldn't stop talking, repeating herself like a parrot. Not sure if we'd be back, portions need to be smaller, waitress needs to allow patrons to talk amongst themselves, and atmosphere needs a spruce up to mimic the pricing. read more

The food is okay but way over priced. Sides in particular are small and expensive. They even charge for water (bottled) which is a nice profit for them, saying the tap water may not be healthy. This was my very first experience at a German restaurant and I have to say I enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. The owner was very warm and friendly and was pleased to share her heritage with us. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. Though they have a semi-limited menu, the food always comes out hot and exactly as ordered. I do not drink coffee so they made me a hot chocolate even though it wasn't on the menu. They also opened 20 minutes early for my friend and me on Sunday. You just can't find that sort of service anymore. Though their prices for a la carte items may seem expensive, they are quite bountiful. I have had many of there lunch items and have not been disappointed by anything! Go now if you get the chance and you won't be disappointed! read more

I am surprised by the good reviews for this restaurant. Maybe they have never had real German food before? I have and the Lucky Frog dies not serve it. First the potato pancakes were flavor free. And if you want them as an appetizer, you have to spend $10 for two pancakes, some green salad and two little pieces of smoked salmon. Why smoked salmon? I do not know. Next the schnitzel was dry and bland. Also there was not a lot of meat beneath the breading. Plus the portion was small for $23. It was served with 'German Potato Salad' and a small cabbage salad. Just like the rest of the food the potatoes had minimal flavor. The spaetzle with cheese was decent, a sort of German Mac and cheese. It was topped with lots of crumbled bacon. Bacon is never bad! For authentic and delicious German food try Heinrich's in Sarasota. read more

Get the daily specials. This was my first time here and it was delicious. The owner cooks everything himself, so if it is busy, expect a wait. I got the German sausage in curry ketchup. It came with greens and multigrain bread for $4.95. My friend got the Goulash (beef) soup special in a bread bowl. It was yummy and came with a free refill. Next time I'm getting the soup and sandwich. They serve the soup in mason jars. read more

Service was outstanding. Food was delicious. I had chicken with mushrooms and white wine Gorgonzola sauce. It was served with spaetzel. The dish had blueberries which added a nice sweet surprise. Husband had goulash with spaetzel. Tender and delicious. Also ordered a side of German potato salad. I liked it, but husband thought it was just okay. Why did I give this place a 4? Fantastisch! We had a group of 4 and have never tried the lucky frog until today. We did not know they close for a break at 2:30 and showed up at 2. Fine German food and friendly service Lucky Frog has genuine German cuisine--fine schnitzel, sausages and roast pork (you can try all of them if the German sampler is the special of the day). The Baking Frog (Kaiserscharrn) is a terrific dessert. Friendly service--they don't say they are going to take of you, they just do. There's a good selection of German beers and live entertainment--jazz, German music--on some nights. Lucky Frog is a bit hard to find but is worth the search. read more

A friend of mine suggested we go to lunch here. I was a little hesitant, to be honest. Boy was I wrong. We had a simply amazing german lunch, with outstanding service in the corner of a strip mall. We both had the spaetzle. I got mine with Swiss cheese and onions. It was divine. Everything is made from scratch and that is so obvious.
