Lucky Kitchen is very good Chinese takeout restaurant. I've tried a fairly wide selection of the offerings on their menu, and all of them have been tasty at a good price. they're pretty prompt at delivering your food as well. As a long-time customer, I have usually found their food to be acceptable to good. (A sweet and sour shrimp order recently was pretty much inedible.) However, their new on-line ordering menu system for delivery seems to be very flawed. It is extremely slow and complicated, and for some items doesn't work. This forced me to use a delivery service, but what I received was all vegetable and no chicken. I double-checked and the order through Doordash was correctly written, so I have to assume Lucky Kitchen failed. Great portions, tastes pretty good, reasonable prices (especially for Ann Arbor). I got a helping of string beans + pork that I could barely finish, and a nice bowl of soup for ~$8.50. And I eat a lot. They accept credit cards but you get free soup or drink if you pay with cash. read more

Cheap doesn't mean good. I ordered their 'Spicy Ginger & Garlic Chicken' and was totally disappointed. Who doesn't put ginger or garlic in the dish? When I called back asking where are the main ingredients for this bland dish they answered that it's in the sauce. What?! I have had tasted better seasoning packets in a box of Ramen noodles. They are unreliable and sometimes just rude. Their food is usually better and costs less than Evergreen Restaurant down the road, but you just can't trust the quality of the food or their weird behaviors related to coupons. Their pay cash vs via credit card nonsense discounts change depending on who answers the phone or who is at the counter. The owner or the woman that acts like she may be the owner is the most annoying. Delivery time is usually good if you order before 8pm. The problem with the the dishes is that they can be good or watery. You never know what's going to show up. Finally, their menu says that they have red peppers in many dishes. Nope, they are green peppers. I ask, every time, for no msg or green peppers. Green peppers are there more often than not. read more

Makes pretty standard Americanized Chinese food, and at reasonable prices. Lunch and dinner specials tend to be ready for pickup in 10 minutes or less, and delivery takes around 45 minutes. There are three or four tables inside if you want to sit down, but this is primarily a takeout place. I love this place to dine in! Fast cheap Chinese food on North Campus. The Luncheon specials are around $7 and a nice helping. The staff is great. I particularly like the Almond Chicken and the Beefy Noodles. The fortune cookie at the end of the meal is great fun! read more

Seriously - this place is rather decent. I wouldn't go for anything that isn't spicey - so far there's no good luck in that arena. But the spicey garlic sauce with no oil along with one of the LK Fit items is really good - and affordable. They deliver within 45 minutes or so. Can't say the staff who answer the phone are the greatest - but stellar greasy spoon chinese take-out/delivery rarely comes with a side of great service. read more

I've had it with this place. Mediocre food. Also I ordered it about 90 minutes ago and it still isn't here. I called to ask about the status and told me to "just be patient". Not helpful. He didn't even ask who I was. That was about 20 minutes ago. Thinking of Chinese food on north campus? DON'T EVEN TRY THIS PLACE... the food is cheap and so is the taste... it was plain terrible. And to top it off, you will be "welcomed" by the super rude lady at the counter! I live in the apartment down the street and when I called to order a delivery, she said "why don't you just walk up here?"!! I am never going to that place again EVER! Grabbed an almond chicken entree for a quick bite before night shift. It was a lot of food for 6 bucks. The food came out fast and as expected. Just adequate enough for that $6 price tag. There are better, cheap Chinese take-out places in the area, but I only come here because it's closest. read more

5 stars because for the price this is exactly what I wanted. The vegetarian spring roll was delicious and a little greasy, which was awesome. The vegetable fried rice was perfect. There were mushrooms and egg chunks and sprouts and baby corn as well as peas and carrots. I just hate it when you order veg fried rice and its only peas and carrots and the white rice is barely brown. That was NOT the case. It was very good and very flavorful. read more

The Almond Chicken, while a healthy portion , was lacking flavor. The chicken as well as the gravy were very bland. No seasoning at all. Disgusting. It was half an hour late, so it was only lukewarm. It was dripping in so much grease that it seeped through the bags. I ordered a spring roll with shrimp and was given a roll filled with lettuce. The sweet and sour chicken was too cold and greasy to eat. Stopped in after a long appointment next door and ordered steamed dumplings, egg drop soup, and chicken fried rice. They were really busy, but I was able to get my food quickly. Very ignorant on the phone. Two seperate visits i had issues. 1st time my wife got sweet and sour chicken and they forgot the sweet and sour sauce. Then they tell me to come pick it up rather than delivering it. Sorry its your booboo. I'm not driving 10 minutes back into town. 2nd visit after a few months of boycotting them i ordered again. This time my chicken soo guy had no fricken gravy. I called and they wouldn't rectify it. They offered me free gravy at first which is INCLUDED IN MY MEAL THAT THEY NEVER GAVE ME LOL then they offered 1 or 2 egg rolls. If you are craving flavourless, water-downed, and unpleasurable food this is the place. 1. Cream cheese and crab filled deep fried wonton. There was not even the slightest of bit of crab present inside the wonton. Sweet and sour sauce was extremmely red as if mass quantities of artificial coloring as added. Most importantly, the dough was not fully cooked. 2.Fried tofu stir fry. Sauce was extremely water-downed and bland. The Shitake mushrooms had an overwhelming aroma when eaten. The tofu had absorbed so much of the sauce causing it to be mushy. 3.Orange Chicken Sauce was water-downed and unseasoned causing the outerlayer of the chicken to go soggy. Orange flavor or essence was not present despite finding one piece of burnt orange peel. Finally the sauce was rather sweet than savory. 4.Broccoli Beef Beef had a dissatisfying gritty texture.Quite peculiar..... 5.Kung Pao chicken Not even the slightest of bit of Chinese spices and kick that a Kung Pao chicken should have. Again, sauce was thin and the chicken was literally bathing itself in it. Soggy disaster. 6.Shrimp Fried rice The only dish that I ordered that was not soaked in watery sauce. Unfortunately, underseasoned and bland. 7.Deluxe Chow Mein Chow mein noodles.... nonexistent. When we called the resturant to report missing noodles, the women whom answered the phone rudely denied our statement. Overall, I will never order from Lucky again, this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had ordering Chinese take out. This rating is all about the (lack of) customer service. I made a yelp profile JUST to write this review. My family has ordered from Lucky Kitchen for over a decade, with varying degrees of service. At one time they even recognized us and had our usual order down! Unfortunately, those day have long since past. Tonight, the man who answered the phone (after 5 minutes on hold with no sorry for the wait) yet again was unable to let us tell him our order without interrupting and saying "Is that it" several times. This has to be the third time this has happened. And I don't mean asking if the order is finished when we've paused, I mean we are literally still talking about the specific dish we're ordering, including anything special (extra spicy, or no onions, whatever), and he has to interrupt after we've barely said the dish we're ordering. This is after the first dish, the second, the third... We are told it will be a 40 minute wait. Okay, pretty on par for Lucky Kitchen. After over an hour we call back to check in on our food, and we are told to "be patient." No "Sorry, we're really busy right now, it should be there soon," but "be patient." I totally get that they could be busy, but there is just this expectation that the customer is somehow a nuisance to the restaurant for...ordering more than one meal and then wondering were their food is when it is 20+ minutes late? THEN, when the delivery man comes to the door, he rings the doorbell, knocks on the door twice, and OPENS THE DOOR, all within a few seconds. We were able to walk two steps to the door before he, again, OPENS THE DOOR TO OUR HOUSE. We tell him he needs to give us a chance to get to the door, and he laughs. No, it's not funny. It is unacceptable to simply enter someone's home. To cap it all off, we found several hairs in our food. I'd like to repeat that we've been customers here for over a decade, it might be closer to two. We've tolerated various faults in customer service (cold food upon delivery, orders not cooked properly), but after tonight we are just done. If we ever come here again, it won't be for a long, long, long time. read more

I ordered three meals; Sweet & Sour Shrimp (each shrimp was fried into a donut shape, about 2" ea.- the donut, not the shrimp that was lost in the donut) and no vegetables. Happy to say the egg foo young was nice, tasty and fluffy. But then the Curry Chicken was clear in color and strange in taste... had "absolutely" nothing to do with "curry" chicken. This place has a very rude service attitude that I have ever met, and this happens more than once.

According to Google Maps Directions, distance from Lucky Kitchen to our Office bldg is 1.7 miles. An Order, for 3 people, was faxed at 10:29am.......food arrived at 12:08pm. Soups were barely warm. Also asked for menus, but not one was in the bag. Of the many times I have ordered, there has never been a menu with my delivery order. This is actually the second time I have made the request. I've requested the menus, because I want to make sure I am paying correct prices ( I do not want to under pay, especially for good food). On their website they have prices listed, and they have a link to a pdf of the menu with prices listed. They are NOT the same prices. So the pdf prices are obviously wrong (as they are the lower prices), but how do I know that the website prices are even correct, since such errors are made? read more

Menu prices are wrong on their website. Delivery driver tried to act like he didn't have $8 to give me my change until I started searching my purse and change jars to give him the correct amount. As soon as he realized he was getting quarters as a tip, he suddenly realized he had a wad of ones in his pocket. I wonder how many valued customers fall for this trick. It didn't work this time. Oredered delivery recently. I got the Mongolian chicken with white rice and a friend got the sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and egg drop soup. The prices were decent. I think my 'large' order of Mongolian beef was somewhere around $9, give or take a buck. The delivery was pretty quick. On the phone they said half an hour, and by golly they were pretty much perfectly on time, which was impressive. The portions are decent and the food tasted quite good. To be honest, my dish tasted a lot like the Mongolian beef I got from King Shing (another good AA area Chinese takeout joint), though i don't know the two places to have any ties. I guess Ann Arbor isn't the place for Chinese food? I got tired of Panda's vaguely Chinese dishes, so I decided to try Lucky. HUGE disappointment. Underwhelming hole in the wall (not that I really mind that). Underwhelming service--no smiles or 'thank yous.' (Order at the counter, self-serve water, you get the idea.) AND THE FOOD WAS BAD BAD BAD. My dish (twice cooked pork) was flavored solely with sauce--no trace of garlic, ginger or green onions (plus lard!) that's necessary to bring out that fragrant, familiar Chinese flavor. The sauce was poorly composed, the dish was soo greasy, and the pork tasted very unfresh (like CARDBOARD, and I really didn't know food could taste like cardboard until now...). Worst restaurant food I've had. They give you big, generous portions. But do you really want big portions of bad food? I didn't think so. read more
