Lucky oyster feels like a seafood Texas roadhouse lol. So many decor so many things to see the crushes are pretty good. The king Neptune space is a lot of food and worth. "Tried and True, Old Faithful, Go-to"... whatever you want to call it, Lucky Oyster has to be on your list and probably the wife's favorite restaurant (pound for pound) in this entire area! Reason being? They are rock solid in food prices, quality, and quantity. They have specials (sit in the bar area) all day long and on certain days of the week that are fantastic. The atmosphere is like a sports bar but chill, with so many regulars to embrace your presence when you arrive. Not to mention, the bartender/servers know what you want because of how consistent the place is. Now I will say, I am speaking mainly about the "bar side" as the main portion of the restaurant we rarely visit. We did one time and immediately went back to the bar area. It is almost like two restaurants. If you want the lively atmosphere, sit at the pub side, but if you want the same quality but more quiet, sit in the restaurant portion. I will say, I do believe some of the specials only exist if you are on the pub side, but don't quote me. Reading my old review, it is worth an update, especially since we moved to this side of town, vs where we were when that review was made. Bottom line, this place is very cool, great food, specials, atmosphere, consistency, reasonable prices, and pretty much the most visited restaurant we attend. A must-try! read more

Mom chose a random restaurant nearby after shopping and she chose the Lucky Oyster. I like the name. We pulled up and I really liked the marquee above the place. I've rarely seen this on some restaurants. Going inside immediately reminded me of home...a seafood place with all stuff beachy, nostalgic, and nautical. We were sat on the right side of the restaurant in a booth against the front of the building and the place was really busy, kinda loud with staff coming and going. That didn't impact our service though. Our server was excellent and also made great suggestions. For a drink, I had their Sangria which was ok, but it tasted too much like wine, very wine-forward. I wanted to get an entree but I decided on just apps. I got a cup of the She Crab Soup as I'm told that this is a regional favorite. This was soo good! Mom ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip and the you can definitely tell that the red, white, and blue chips were housemade. They were also thicker than normal tortilla chips for durability and scoopability. For entrees she got the Seafood Au Gratin and I got the Blackened Tuna Nachos app and the Shrimp and Crab Empanadas app. I completely overestimated the nachos size though. The tuna was blackened but with that it was a little dry but the nachos toppings helped with that. The empanadas were so good and they came out nuclear hot. Be forewarned if you actually want oysters! All of the rest of our food was good but they are obviously trimming their oysters or have supply issues. Ordered a dozen raw, shells were significantly sized and beautiful, actual oysters were paper thin/halved and two shells were empty. If two shells show up empty on a dozen, you are halving or trimming and refilling shells not from the original oyster. Disappointing and when we asked about it we're told there was nothing they could do since my daughter gulped them down. Manager wouldn't even come to address it. Server was great, not her fault but sad they are doing this and wouldn't reimburse us. My husband and I have a long-standing tradition of enjoying a "seafood feast" on Christmas Eve, and this year we tried the Lucky Oyster Seafood Grill in Virginia Beach. We were quite impressed with all aspects of our visit to this restaurant. The server, Ryan, was friendly and welcoming, and did a great job of pacing the meal. He was attentive, checking on us without hovering, and often anticipating our needs before we had to ask. The atmosphere was pleasant, with natural lighting from many windows, and the busy hum of many diners, but not so hectic that we couldn't enjoy our meal. Starting with appetizers, we split a bowl of delicious she crab soup, very flavorful with a rich creamy base and numerous lumps of crab meat, and then a heaping plate of fried calamari, lightly battered with a very tasty marinara for dipping. We each ordered a seafood platter, mine fried, and my husband's broiled. Both platters contained healthy portions of oysters (Rockefeller-style on the broiled platter), huge scallops, shrimp, crab cakes and halibut. The meals were accompanied by well-chilled salads (his Caesar, mine garden) and a side (his garlic potato wedges, mine mac-and-cheese). We ate as much as we could, but resorted to take out boxes for what remained (a tasty lunch for tomorrow!) We stopped into Lucky Oyster for dinner but happy hour specials were going on, so we grabbed two seats at the bar. We kicked things off with two craft points and ordered bone-in wings with the honey habanero and garlic parmesan sauce. The wings were perfectly cooked with bold, delicious flavors. Despite her being the only bartender on a busy Thursday night, she was super friendly and kept things moving smoothly. For dinner, I ordered the Rockfish Trio, and it was amazing--perfectly cooked with a rich crab cream sauce that was downright addictive. The mashed potatoes were also a standout (honestly some of the best I've had!). He ordered the Wahoo Puttanesca and it was also cooked perfectly and hit the spot! My family and I came to this location because my stepdaughter absolutely love crab/lobster mac and cheese. All the times we have come to VA beach on vacations we decided we wanted to try something new so we found this location online that was listed as one of the best. The waitress was great and offered suggestions to us as it was our first time here. We really wanted to try the she crab soup which she even brought a taste out in a little cup for us to try before ordering. She also mentioned that the same recipe of the soup was used to make the grab dip. Since there was a group of us we decided to go with the dip. While it was okay... we all definitely should of ordered the soup. The drip's topping was not tasty and through the whole vibe of it off. For our entrees we ordered the crab mac and cheese, the chicken alfredo, and the seafood boil. We were completely disappointed by it all! First the mac and cheese was absolutely disgusting and the piece of seafood in it were barely to be seen. The chicken alfredo's sauce was from a jar and you could tell it was not made in house (tasted like the one from Preggo), and the seafood boil while looking appetizing was overcooked and included veggies that were not fresh not not steamed at the same time. For some reason it also came with a side of cheese that I could not understand either. Great seafood choices! This is a place you need to venture to if you're in the Virginia Beach area. It's worth the 30 min drive from the boardwalk. An extensive menu of many creative seafood options, the basic ones, and plenty of stuff for landlubbers. Our server was wonderful and quietly hooked us up with a birthday dessert (key lime pie!). This is one of my favorite places, started by locals and loved by many locals!! Tom Sola was a great guy who brought a wonderful team of people into this restaurant to make it what it is today. My most recent visit, NYE 2025. We had a party of 9 and some were late, but it was no sweat for our server, she was great. We had a reservation at 6 and 3 of us were sat on arrival. They were pretty busy. The bar was full. I love seeing that when I walk into a business. We ordered about 6 appetizers while we decided our entrees. I chose the bacon wrapped scallops and shrimp scampi flatbread. Both were perfectly prepared and enjoyed. Others had the calamari, hush puppies & crab dip. It was all gone! I went with the Thai Salmon, served with rice. It had a sweet & spicy chili, pineapple compote/glaze. The salmon was cooked medium just how I like it. And again, gone! I don't eat anything all day so give me a break. Haha. We didn't leave until after 8 but some left at 7:30 to make it home for "Stranger Things" but I was gamecasting the Miami/Ohio game (yay, Canes!). We wanted share some dessert. So we ordered the bread pudding and the cinnamon roll cheesecake. I'd never had either, I usually get the Keylime pie or the carrot cake, which is monstrous, but I wanted something I hadn't tried before. They did not disappoint. We live 5mins from this restaurant but surprisingly it was our first time trying lucky oyster. We came on a Friday and there was a 25min wait. I was surprised at how large the restaurant is. There were lots of seats available in the waiting area so we waited there for our table. They also have lots of merch gear available for purchase. We sat at our table and had an amazing server. I didn't catch her name though. She gave us her recommendations on drinks and entrees and checked up on us frequently. For starters we got the raw oysters and for our dinner I got the grilled salmon salad and my husband got one of their fave dishes with fried shrimp, fried oysters and fried fish bites with sweet potato fries. My salad was delicious and the salmon was cooked perfectly. My husband's dinner was really good as well. I was surprised this was our first time here but it's definitely not our last. I was craving oysters so I made the trip out to Lucky Oyster General Booth Boulevard near the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. They have a terrific happy hour specials menu available that offers some of their best selling dishes for a reduced price.I don't remember the exact price but I know that the oysters and wings (sold separately) are less than $1 each. If you're interested in checking out the game, they have several large screen televisions in the bar area. They also had matchboxes with their name on them at the door which I haven't seen in years! I wasn't in an oyster mood, so I decided to order the following: Creamy She Crab Soup Cobb Salad Pungo Crush The award-winning creamy she-crab soup is a new recipe from previous years and is phenomenal. My favorite part of my meal was the fresh seafood cobb salad (without bacon, I don't dine with the swine)--lumps of crab meat and seasoned blackened bay scallops on top of a bed of fresh garden greens. Plus, avocado, cucumber, shredded cheese, and egg make it the perfect meal to hold on to summer longer. Pungo Crush featured local strawberries from Pungo Farms. The crush was excellent and strong, so intense that I couldn't finish my chosen meal. We went for Restaurant week. Arrived about 5 PM. seated immediately. Wife ordered She Crab Chowder (excellent) , Oyster dinner with Caesar salad and green beans, and key lime pie. I ordered fried shrimp and Thai glazed salmon came with a Casar salad and bread pudding for desert. Neither of us finished our salad nor main course plus took deserts home. All food very good, with decent portion size. The Thai glazed salmon was more spicy than expected, but very good. I also ordered a peach and jalapeno Margareta. the combination of the salmon and the Margareta my mouth needed the ice-cream that came with the bread pudding. I was reminiscing about some of my favorite spots from when I lived in Virginia Beach and realized I never left a review! Here are my long overdue 5 stars for Lucky Oyster. I'll be honest, the first time I came here, like 3-4 stars. I put it in the "just another seafood bar in a city full of great seafood bars" mental category. As I had more experiences at Lucky Oyster and the other area seafood bars, this became one of my favorites. Locally owned and operated, the Food is consistent, the drinks are great, and the staff was on it even when we came with larger groups. It can be a little busy, but it's got a "sit back, relax, and stay awhile" energy that doesn't make even the busier times feel that bad. Lexi was our go-to server - always a delight! I dined here once when I first moved to Lago Mar and had a bad experience and never came back. So it's been like 9 years and I can't believe I didn't leave one during that first visit. Last night, after a gift card from our realtor arrived for here, we came for a quiet dinner on a Tuesday night. You get four large scallops wrapped in bacon drizzled with BBQ sauce on a bed of crispy onion rings. It's good. $15.99 and a nice sized app. We also got the wedge salad with a delicious house-made ranch dressing on the side. Lots of bleu cheese, tons of bacon, fresh chopped tomatoes and red onion. This was a good wedge. One of my favorite salads to order and this one was very very well done. Would absolutely order again. As an entree - I went with an item listed as new. A fish taco salad. So it was a white fish of the day on a bed of lettuce, salsa, white rice and red beans with a cilantro cream sauce. I'm telling you - I inhaled this. It was absolutely delicious. The waitress said it was her favorite thing on the menu and I can see why. Hubs chose a flounder BLT served with some huge house-made crispy salty fries. Fries were delish but the flounder was fish-y to the taste and I doubt it was super fresh. He didn't like it. Dessert was just OK. The "famous" bread pudding was kind'a lukewarm but came with a huge portion of ice cream and whipped cream. I'm not a huge bread pudding fan but, had it been hot, it would've been OK. This was my first time at Lucky Oyster. My friend got there a little earlier than I did and my cell service stopped working as soon as I walked in. I asked the greeters if they knew where my friend was seated and they told me I could look around. It was a struggle to find her but eventually a waiter found me and guided me to the table where she was seated. The waiter shared that's its normal for cell service to not work on the property. Interesting. I ordered the fried seafood basket which included oysters, shrimp, and fried fish and a side. I got sweet potato fries. The oysters were fresh and tasted really good. The shrimp and fish were good too. Everything was tasty. I wish the sweet potato fries were served on the side of the seafood. The fries became soggy. Overall, good food. Our waitress, Alexis, was super friendly, quickly greeted us at our table and helped me choose a very yummy drink so I decided to try the Pink Hurricane which consists of watermelon rum, vodka, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and soda water. It was very delicious and not too strong. I ordered a dozen of raw oysters to start with and they came out pretty quickly. The oysters were very fresh and even though my boyfriend hates them, I thoroughly enjoyed every last one. For our main order, we chose the New England Fish and Chips and the Fried Shrimp. Both came out really quickly. My shrimp was pretty good. I like they they were butterflied and fried perfectly but could have used a little more seasoning. I tasted a piece of the fish and it was alright but was definitely overly breaded in my opinion. The fries were really good though. Since it was my birthday, I was offered a complimentary dessert so I chose the Key Lime Pie which was absolutely delicious! I'm not a huge fan of Key Lime Pie but their pie tasted homemade and very good. BLUF: Food is perfectly cooked and seasoned, the service is fast, staff are attentive, and the place is packed with locals. Food: I had the Raw Oysters, which were a great price especially for the size of the oysters. I expected to pay $3+ an oyster and it was closer to $1.50. The oysters were definitely on the "large" end of the spectrum, especially coming from someone who grew up in lowcountry SC. The Caesar salad and baked potato were average, good but average. The side of asparagus was resting perfectly in a nice garlic butter bath and seasoned really well. The Sweet Chili Thai Salmon resting on Pina Colada rice was well cooked and flavorful. If you're not a huge sauce person you wouldn't appreciate this dish as it was covered salmon to rice in the sweet chili sauce, but I think the veggies and rice evened the sauce out well. The chocolate volcano cake was fluffy and flavorful with decadent ice cream and real, thick, whipped cream. The Carmel drizzle added a turtle twist to the dish making it that much better. Service: I sat at the bar as there was a bit of a wait in the main dining area. The hostesses were a little cold on introduction, like they were tired of accepting customers, but the bar staff was amazing. The bar was hopping with locals who were here when I arrived and stayed after I left which is a testament to the food and drink service. The bartenders were very attentive and I never saw a drink at the bar go empty without staff asking to refill. With a 20+ seat bar and one main bartender, it was impressive. Drinks: I had a bourbon on the rocks, a beer and a cocktail. While there were much prettier drinks being served I picked the basics. The espresso martini was good, also average. Nothing "spectacular" but a well make cocktail. While sitting at the bar I noted the attention to detail when making cocktails and pouring drafts. If you don't mind a short stubby glass, the wine was always poured on the heavy side for a bang for your buck option. Dina was the bartender for the evening and she was absolutely wonderful, attentive, and helpful on drink selection. Atmosphere: the bar was packed with locals. The staff knew them by name and vise Versa. Some places that are "local heavy" tend to be really exclusive and cold as the locals get grumpy about tourists or visitors, but this spot was the opposite. Locals were welcoming and friendly to all around and very inviting and helpful to visitors offering suggestions for dining and entertainment. Parking: it's nice that this spot has its own parking lot and it's quite large. Overall: this is a solid spot whether you're a 10+ year local or a visitor from out of town.
