Rigoletto reminds me of bakeries and delis back in New Jersey. Their food is always fresh. Today I had Spinach Ravioli and it was amazing. Lots of fresh spinach sauteed in olive oil and garlic with pillowy ravioli filled with a smooth cheese filling, I had sfogliatelle for dessert. The sfogliatelle (shell-shaped pastry) is worth a trip from Kempsville. In addition to the great food, I have to send a shoutout to Erin. I was meeting a friend, she was late, not reachable by text or phone, which is highly unusual for her. After a half hour wait I was convinced my friend was having a health issue. I thanked Erin, explained the situation to her, and left to drive to my friend's house. Needless to say, five minutes later (still in the parking lot), I got a message through Messenger that my friend was safe inside the restaurant. Erin volunteered her personal phone to help us out and was very kind through the whole debacle. Almost needed a daytime glass of wine to recover! (no go - driving) The restaurant is very cozy and welcoming. But I get distracted on my way to the table by the amazing pastry display! We have ordered delivery via a third-party app a few times now. Everything is very well packaged and labeled. The food has been great every time we have ordered. Amazing spot for Italian pastries, overall good food. My sister and I met her in laws Black Friday after a morning of shopping for the family. Needless to say we were starving and ready for some amazing meals. The overall food experiences was good, nothing unpleasant. I had the breaded chicken Alfredo which was ok. Nothing I'd drive all the way back to have. I also shared a appetizer of coconut shrimp with my sister and that was good. Again, nothing amazing but I was happy with what I had. Their pastries were amazing, those I'd come back for any time. I ordered the Limoncello, 2 rasberry limoncello, brownie cheesecake, salted caramel apple pies to go. All of them except the regular limoncello were gone the same night. Very happy with their desserts. The service was lack luster, I wasn't really pleased that they only brought out one pitcher of water and one small basket of bread for a table of 11. She barely came to the table and had to be asked for refills constantly. When I went up to ask for the pastries I wanted to pay for my meal and the pastries at the front but she made me wait and pay at the table, I was trying to get out of there sooner but that put me behind for my next engagement. Absolutely love this place. If you are looking for authentic Italian baked goods, this is the place. Real cannolis freshly filled. Amazing tiramisu. The lobster tails were perfect. We went there looking for black-and-white cookies for my mom which they had. They had large traditional ones and they also had minis. She got both. I got a box of Italian cookies. They were amazing. We all sat down, a group of eight of us. To eat our pastries and some coffee. And then we took piles of cookies with us. The surface was good staff was friendly. Can't wait to go back. Very family friendly spot with great service. The pastas are inconsistent though - my husband and father-in-law got the same dish but one was very, very salty and the other wasn't. I got the lobster and crab ravioli which was good, but I couldn't taste the seafood that much and the sauce was very heavy. I also hate when restaurants charge for bread ($6) but we got one for the table. The garlic butter was very garlicky. A few of our group also got desserts - the cheesecake was terrible but some of the cakes are good. From what I've heard from my in laws who live nearby is the quality of food has declined recently. read more

This hidden bakery in a strip mall was a true delight to stumble upon. I have been trying to find a really good Italian bakery and restaurant around this area and I think I finally can say I have. With a little store to buy wines and homemade pastas as well as baked goods from cookies to cakes and traditional Italian desserts. This restaurant and bakery is definitely one to go check out! Parking is very easy because it's in a strip mall so there's lots of space to park. Once you go inside, you're welcome walk around to buy desserts or wines or if you'd like to have a proper sit down meal. They even do lunch and dinner and you can stay and eat inside. When looking for gluten free in the area, this was recommended. They have a specific gluten free menu, which is awesome. We came on a week night for dinner and it was quite busy. It seemed like there was only one server for the entire restaurant, which meant that she was slammed and service was lacking. It was very obviously not her fault.. no one could have given great service to that many tables at once. We actually really enjoyed her. When it comes to food, we ordered solely gluten free and their calamari was amazing. It was super flavorful and perfectly tender. We got two pasta dishes which were mediocre. The gluten free pasta is boxed, nothing special and they don't actually carry the pasta types that are listed on the menu. For example, if you get the dishes that state spaghetti or linguine, it will just come with whatever one that have in stock at the time. They only carry one at a time. I got the Linguine and Clams, but it was brought over with penne and that was quite a disappointment. It would have been nice to know ahead of time. Maybe I am weird, but pasta shape is important when it comes to certain dishes. Another bright side: the eggplant parmigiana was delicious! read more

They have a variety of cakes, biscotti's, Italian and Non-Italian cookies, macarons. I LOVE that they have about 25 biscotti flavors, 20 Italian cookie varieties and about 20 cake flavors. I took home: almond horn, cookies and cream, tiramisu roll and strawberry eclairs. Even the strawberry eclair is unique. Baked in-house you'd expect them to be fresh. So my first visit here will more likely than not be my last. There was a long curly hair in my shrimp n crab linguine dish. Luckily for me I had started eating, I was just moving the pasta around. Told the server and the manager came out to apologize but to let me know it wasn't hair and that it was probably a string from the metal sponge. Firstly, it was hair. I saw it and used my fork to pick it up. Secondly, how is a metal sponge a better alternative. I wasn't interested in another attempt at the dish for the obvious reasons. A facebook group I'm apart of vouching for great gluten-free restaurants. I had so many posts about this restaurant I had to make the hour plus trip. It's not every day you can get homemade Focaccia bread that's gluten free. My friend and I visited on Friday afternoon. We were seated right away. The atmosphere was very family friendly and cozy, I loved it. We both ordered off of the lunch specials. I couldn't believe how delicious the Focaccia bread was along with the soup as well. Not everyone can make gf pasta taste great as it disintegrates very easily. The meal was delicious. Now on to the overwhelming portion the desserts. We paid and then went to the entrance where there are 3 glass cases full of desserts from cakes, cheesecakes, cookies, Gelato and much more. Guess what the gluten free offerings were insane. My family and I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, but the experience was deeply disappointing. The eggplant parmesan was, without a doubt, the worst I've ever had. It seemed as though the eggplant had been pre-fried and then assembled with spaghetti before being briefly baked. I suspect this because the center of the eggplant was noticeably cold. The texture was also off; it crumbled like cooked ground beef. Furthermore, the dish was drowning in an excessive amount of red sauce, making the pasta and eggplant swim in it. Unfortunately, my children's meals weren't much better. They ordered chicken parmesan and shrimp scampi, and neither of them could finish their dishes. While shrimp scampi is traditionally served with spaghetti, angel hair pasta, or fettuccine, it arrived with penne. We weren't informed of this substitution beforehand. The chicken parmesan mirrored the issues with the eggplant: cold chicken in the middle and an overabundance of spaghetti sauce. I'm unsure if we caught the kitchen on an off night, perhaps with a substitute cook, but I won't risk another visit. Paying for overpriced, inedible food is simply unacceptable. While their bakery items might be commendable, the Italian dishes we ordered were terribly prepared. I cannot recommend this restaurant for Italian cuisine." read more

I came here to say that you guys know what you are doing when it comes to to Italian Desserts and pastries. Oh my goodness, the Tiramisu I had. I went to Modern Pastry In Boston a couple weekends ago and their tiramisu is not that great. It's one of my favorite desserts and this one you guys made is so delicious!! Came here for dessert after dinner. Ordered a decaf coffee, and it might've been one of the worst tasting cups of coffee I've ever had in my life. I'm a big pasta lover, but I've never been to Rigoletto before. It's not close to me, but overall my foodie friends have not urged me even after their reopening from a fire that closed the business a year. So with recent publicity of a reopening I thought why not. The restaurant is located in the Redmill Shopping Center in a strip. Plenty of surface parking is available and the lot was clean, however the walk had debris. My visit was a week day just after opening early in January. I walked in and was pleased by the aesthetics. A staff person was upfront but no acknowledgment. The bakery cases were full of visually stunning lines looking cookies and cakes. I asked the staff person if everything was made in-house and to my amazement she said it was except for the holiday cookies. I grabbed a seat at the bar which has ten seats or so. The dining room is made up of mainly booth seating and has a large table with chairs in the rear that holds maybe 10. This area has wine displays and even a chilled wine cooler. The decor is pretty basic with Italian art on the wall. Everything was clean and inviting to guest. At around 1130 AM there were almost no customers. My waitress gave me both drink and a food menu to review and was friendly. I asked for water and time to look over the large menu. She did provide a lunch special that was a sandwich. The prices in my opinion were staggeringly high. I decided on the Chicken Parmesan at as the waitress recommended. I did ask for a house red to accompany. She immediately provided and it was not drinkable. The food hit in about 10 minutes which was shockingly fast and was piping hot. The plate looked visually ok, but the tiny piece of bread stood out, it also was the end of the loaf which I've never been served. Upon closer inspection the sauce was watery. Taste of the fried chicken breast with cheese on top was crispy and tasted good. However the sauce was weak, watery and lacked flavor. The bread was ok. The spaghetti was plentiful but again lacked flavor. I did not finish. The waitress did a late check and she did agree to switch out the red for another which was very much appreciated and better, but not great. She also did a water refill as it was empty. I made no stink about the mean saying it was ok and did not finish. I did get a cake to go, how could I not considering the yummy visual and that they are made in-house. The bill was promptly brought out and with tip & tax just under $40. No goodbyes by any of the three staff as I departed. At this point is afternoon with light traffic. I did try the cake which was nicely boxed and had a red holiday ribbon that presented nicely. The cake was fresh and very good. It saved the review from going underwater. I doubt that I would return any time soon. read more

Rigoletto's is located in Red Mill Commons and offers a variety of pastries and Italian dishes. It's on the smaller side but the food doesn't disappoint. I've had several items here throughout the years and all were good. This time around I had the panini and I was impressed. It is a large sandwich for lunch but it tasted delicious. We ordered a death by chocolate Yule log cake the week before Christmas to pick up the Friday beforehand. We never opened the box before Christmas Eve. You would think Death by chocolate would be chocolate through & through. Instead it was a death by white tasteless cake! We were horrified & our guests were gracious until we all ate it! A lot of us did not finish the cake because it had no taste! My husband went to the restaurant today to show them a picture of the so called Death by Chocolate cake & was told by the young lady at the counter that this was their standard Death by Chocolate cake. He said how could it be Death by Chocolate without the cake being chocolate & she replied that's how they make the cake and I'm sorry about that. You would think when a customer comes in person that you would get more than a reply of we are sorry about that. My husband said to her that he was very disappointed in this product. I could not believe that they call this Death by Chocolate cake & also that nothing was done about this!!! We have had other baked goods & lunches there many times & it has been great. Long story short --don't waste your time and money here. I picked this particular place to have some cuppa and brunch with a friend because of the availability of different cakes and bakery selections. We're both from Tokyo and sorely miss having good tea and desert cakes. Due to both of us being new to this area, we've decided to give this place a try after reading mostly positive reviews online. After our visit, I think this cafe establishment is overhyped given the quality of food and service. My friend and I visited on a Friday to enjoy brunch and cuppa. It should have been a clear sign to us that we saw dozens of big families, couples, and everyone going to Eddys Cafe two doors down instead of Rigoletto. I thought the server we had was curt, rushed, and unfriendly. I'm not sure why when there's only 3 tables occupied with two other servers tending to each of the other tables. Once seated, our curt server slapped all the menus onto our table before hurriedly leaving. This place offers water but apparently has no lemon or lime available. I took a look at the menu and wasn't sure what to make of it. Frankly, neither my friend or I found anything we wanted to order. Knowing that there's no lemon or limes available, we definitely didn't want calamari or anything that should have lemons. We both came starving so we would have glad to order other appetizers but they didn't really have anything else. I saw from previous Yelp reviews about the bread sampler so that was going to be a no. The menu has a Brunch section but it really should be labeled as Sandwiches. It mainly consists of sandwiches and 3-4 brunch food items. There wasn't really any other items to pick out of lunch specials, or full size entrees that looked appealing to me. It's sorta bizarre knowing I have a hound dog like state of mind -- I am constantly thinking of food and what my next meal is going to be. You'd think that someone who got up at 4am, walked two beagles for 3 miles, and arrived at 12pm on empty stomach for brunch would be starved enough to order and eat anything, or no? Anyhow, our server came to ask what to order three times by then so I settled with getting La Famiglia --basically a meatball sandwich with a bag of greasy chips. Yes, meatballs made of mystery meat and very stale flavorless bread. That's right. At Rigoletto, that's considered brunch food! My friend ordered their stuffed meatballs with salad. Neither tasted very good at all and not because we're really picky eaters. We also got some cakes before leaving. That was the very reason why we chose to come here after all. Her tiramisu and my Italian cream cake were both not only underwhelming but tasted nasty. It was incredibly soggy and it had the aroma of moldy condensate of the display fridge and its rubber gaskets. Totally yucky and definitely not worth it. We were going to get cakes to take home for later enjoyment but after eating the ones at the restaurant, decided against it. Did I tell you I offered some of the cakes and leftover sandwich to my pooches when I got home but neither really wanted any? My dogs are usually willing to eat just about anything edible or not. To me that says something and hence, I Rigolet-to tell you it's better to go elsewhere. read more
