We've visited this place twice now, and unfortunately, it seems like I haven't had much luck getting what I actually ordered. First visit: We came during their soft opening, and I ordered #34 -- pork chop, steamed pork and egg, shredded pork skin, and rice. However, I was served only the pork chop with rice. I was told afterward that the steamed pork and egg and shredded pork skin weren't available at the time. Second visit: A couple of days ago, I ordered #31 -- steamed chicken with chicken-flavored rice (Hainan chicken). Instead, I was served fried chicken over rice. Again, the dish I wanted was not available. Both times, the food itself was delicious, so I have no complaints about the taste. My concern is the communication. If an item isn't available, I feel the restaurant should let the customer know before serving a substitute, so we have the opportunity to decide whether we still want the meal or choose something else. I'm not sure if we'll make a third visit, but I'm willing to give it a couple of weeks and try one more time. Hopefully, by then, the ordering and communication will be better. Otherwise, repeatedly ordering one dish and receiving something different without being informed starts to feel like bait and switch. At this point, while the service is okay and the food is delicious, I can't give more than 3 stars because of these two experiences. Hopefully, the next visit will be a better one. read more

The pho was amazing--the broth was rich, flavorful, and tasted like it had been simmered for hours. The grilled pork vermicelli was just as delicious, with tender, flavorful grilled pork, fresh vegetables, and perfectly balanced fish sauce. Decided to stop by after my nail appointment down the street to bring something home. Was warmly welcomed when I walked in & handed a menu right away. I like the layout of the restaurant, it's very open and bright. You could tell the owners have put a lot of work into remodeling the space. They even have a side room that could be used for a larger party of people. I ordered one of each banh mi (grilled pork, grilled chicken and stir-fried beef) and a matcha green tea. My drive home was about 20-25 min and the bread was still crispy, the meat was still warm & the veggies were crunchy! The seasoning they used for the meats was flavorful and the sandwiches were very filling for the price. My matcha was also refreshing. I definitely recommend their banh mi...can't wait to return to try more dishes. read more

We gave this place a try tonight and the food was delicious! I got the chicken and shrimp noodle bowl and my husband got the fried chicken plate. We also shared the fish sauce chicken wings. Everything had great flavor. I also got the lychee tea, it was extremely sweet but had a great flavor too. (Just added a little water to make it less sweet). The vibe in the restaurant is very casual. The staff is very friendly, but don't expect attentive service. This is the kind of joint where they serve you and never come back. With that said, they are pleasant when you flag them down for whatever you need. Just don't expect full service where they check in with you to see how you like your meal and if you need anything. Since they just opened, everything is clean and comfortable. I recommend you give them a try, we'll be coming back. read more

We dined here for dinner yesterday. The restaurant is still in its soft-opening phase, so there are definitely some kinks to work out with the service, but the staff was friendly and attentive whenever we needed anything. It was our first visit, and we were excited to try a new pho restaurant in hopes of finding a new favorite. The menu isn't extensive, but there's a good variety of dishes, along with a selection of specialty drinks. We ordered #8, which was essentially a beef pho with oxtail. The broth was flavorful and pleasantly surprised us. We also ordered #34, the grilled pork chop with broken rice. It was nicely presented with two perfectly seasoned, tender pork chops, rice, and a side of fresh salad. It was delicious! Even my daughter, who is the pickiest eater, approved. As for the ambiance, the restaurant is spacious and open, with high ceilings and lots of windows, and a gender-neutral restroom. I especially appreciate that the restaurant is air-conditioned and has a private parking lot right in front, making it very convenient. Overall, we enjoyed our first visit and look forward to coming back once they're fully up and running. read more

I've seen a couple of Facebook posts about Lucky V Vietnamese restaurant recently so my friend and I decided to have lunch here after our appointment at a nearby hospital. We got there after 2pm, parking wasn't a problem. It was bright and open inside, clean and spacious. There were a couple of tables occupied and they seem to be enjoying their food. We were helped by a younger gentleman who speaks English rather well. He was very courteous and accommodating. My friend and I had #2, the pork and shrimp spring rolls, as an appetizer. They were fresh and delicious. Then, I ordered pho #15 with steak, well-done flank, and tendon. The broth was flavorful but not salty, which I appreciate. I ate everything except for a few pieces of tendon because they weren't tender enough. I also got #07, the grilled chicken banh mi. This one was my favorite! I ate half the sandwich despite finishing my soup because it was that good. It had enough chicken and all the other good stuff, plus a white sauce that made it even more flavorful. For $8, I could have it for every meal! My friend had #40, a bowl of noodles and Vietnamese salad, topped with crispy rolls, grilled pork and shrimp. My friend enjoyed her meal so much that I ended up ordering another #40 to go for my late dinner. We had mango and avocado shakes, she loved her mango shake and I enjoyed my creamy semi-sweet avocado treat! We stopped by Lucky V Restaurant in Martinez after a movie date, and we're glad we did! We ordered the #40 Bun Chan Go, #29 Bo Luc Lac, Fish Sauce Chicken Wings, and an Avocado Smoothie with Boba. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. The pork and beef were especially impressive--both were super tender and cooked perfectly. The Fish Sauce Chicken Wings were also delicious, and the Avocado Smoothie with Boba was a nice way to finish the meal. It's great to see a new Vietnamese spot in Martinez. This pho is SERIOUSLY so good. The broth has so much depth and flavor, it's honestly in a league of its own compared to other spots around here. And the banh mi was just as impressive. I went to their soft opening tonight. It seemed like they didn't know how to run a restaurant. There were multiple staff including children. Everyone seemed confused. The meat in the pho was very good. The broth could use more straining through fine mesh. The environment is very casual. There seems to be no central AC so they have wall units. They could probably use some curtains on the windows because when we got there at 6 PM it was very hot with the sun beating in. I hope they can make some improvements. Good luck! read more

Then the wife had the #6 sandwich and I had the #40 Bun Chan Go. Both were excellent. I had the Mango smoothie which, alone, would be worth the trip to the restaurant. Only minor downside we saw were no napkins on the table, but were promptly delivered when requested. One of the owners, Kristy, showed us the banquet room they have. My part of the order was never made. Upon inquiring about it I assumed they would quickly make it for me. Then several minutes later another person asked and I repeated that my order hasn't arrived. Then several minutes later yet another person asked us if everything was ok? I said, again, I have not received my order and at this point it's too late and I don't want it anymore. Then the guy that took the order came and showed that my order wasn't in the system. Then yet another person, probably the owner, asked me if everything was ok. At that point I said again that I never got my order. She said that's why she sends the younger workers to check on me as if I didn't speak up. No, she was the 4th person to hear that I didn't have my order and no one cared to rectify it whatsoever but place blame on me. The spring rolls weren't that good either. The banh mi was mediocre according to my partner. We won't be returning nor do we recommend. read more
