My husband and I were craving pho after getting back in town from a trip and decided to try out a new Vietnamese place. We landed on Pho May and we were so pleased to find a solid pho place so close to our house! The restaurant itself is exactly what you'd imagine for a Vietnamese restaurant - super inviting, Vietnamese decor, friendly employees, and heavenly smell of food coming from the kitchen. We got pho ga (chicken pho) and pho tai (rare beef pho) to go, along with a Thai iced tea. All of them were stellar. The broth for both soups were very flavorful, not too salty, and most importantly piping hot! The portions of meat, noodles, and toppings were very generous and super fresh. The prices are also super reasonable for the quality of the food. We will definitely be back - this is our new go-to spot in Martinez for pho! read more

I have to say I have mixed feelings about this place. Let's start with the good. 1) broth was delicious. 2) customer service was awesome Now the so not good. I ordered a 15 and a Thai tea. The broth was awesome. I was hoping for some Basil but got cilantro instead. The shrimp was good but the rest of the seafood lacked flavor. It didn't matter how much hoisen sauce and sriracha I put I couldn't get the right flavor flavor. The tea was kind of bland. Not sure if it was mostly milk and not enough tea or if the tea was just not as strong as in other places. Also this isn't so much their fault and I know fixing systems are hard but it being cash only makes it difficult. Luckily there was a bank down the St and I was able to get some cash. All in all it was "good" I might give it one more try or maybe two more tries because I want to taste their sandwich and the beef pho. Hopefully my next experience is better. read more

I am so glad we decided to try this place! I got the chicken soup and my husband got the wonton soup. Both were absolutely delicious, and all the fixings came completely fresh. I got my order to go and let me tell you.... 10/10! The amount of toppings was perfect and it stayed flavorful all day until I got home. My boyfriend even had his the next day and he was raving. I've lived in Martinez for 2 years and saw a Pho place a mile or two away from home. My sister told me about it and I had to check it out. I ordered food to go. It was packaged perfect, the broth separate from the noodles and the fixings that you put in on the top. The temperature was perfect. I didn't order ahead and it only took a few minutes. They have appetizers, Beef & Chicken Noodle Soups, Beef Stew, Rice Plates, Rice Vermicelli and Vietnamese Sandwiches. Smoothies too. Excellent service and fantastic food. I'll be back. read more

Ordered chicken and fried rice, both dishes where inedible. The beef was grisly and old, the chicken was undercooked and the rice in both dishes was stale and bland. The chicken was not grilled, it tasted boiled. I ordered the pho instead... it was even worse. Tasted sour and no flavor of bone. The meat did not look fresh whatsoever, the brisket had a greenish blue tint to it. I don't understand how other people where finishing their food in the restaurant. They use instant powdered broth. I was expecting to like this place based on the reviews and was very disappointed. Upon arriving, it was hot and humid inside + nobody greeted us. We finally were told to sit anywhere and half of the tables inside were covered in food prep. My friend and I both ordered beef noodle soup with steak and brisket and neither of us could finish our meals. Wow... wow wow wow. This place is absolutely delicious. I was craving Pho on this cold, rainy day so we decided to come to Pho May. We ordered the chicken pho, the beef pho, the banh mi, and the thai tea.. I'm absolutely stuffed. I couldn't stop eating. The banh mi was so good, the meat was cooked to perfection with no fatty parts. It was vinegary, and the baguette was toasted so perfectly. I added some things into my chicken pho and it was perfect. I finished all the noodles and I normally get full super quickly. I couldn't stop drinking the broth and eating the sandwich. The thai tea was also so good, I wish we got another one to go but I was nervous I wouldn't be able to sleep from the caffeine haha. I cannot wait to come back to this place. Really delicious Pho. Beef broth was not greasy as it has been at other Pho establishments. Ordered the Brisket, Beef Ball, and Flank Pho. Flavor was all there, adding lime at the end with just noodles adds even more flavor. Prices are very reasonable. I also like that there's one size of Pho, and not 3 different sizes. All I can say is I've been having pho doe Years now and I'm from San Jose where they have some of the best Pho but man this place takes the cake!!! Their shrimp pho is amazing !! I've been waiting for this to reopen and was so happy to see it open yesterday. Called in an order for pickup and the lady was super friendly on the phone and in person, too. This is the second pho place I've tried in Martinez (the first one closed last year and theirs was really basic, good but very minimal sides if any) so I liked this place a lot. They know how to make pho really well and it reminds me of the same quality abd style two old favorite pho places when I lived in Alameda/S.L. - Pho & Baguette on Central in Alameda (I think they've closed too) and Saigan II on Marina Blvd in San Leandro (An all-time fav). Yesterday I ordered and tried the pho Tai (rare steak) and Thai tea - both very good & I'll be back "pho" sure =) the inside was perfect to me..warm, friendly, homey, non-presumptuous. I appreciated that fresh ingredients were separate, and I could add them to my liking. They use white meat chicken, which means there is none of the gamey flavor. Tasty! Enjoyed a dinner from Pho May, and it was very yummy. Started with the fresh spring rolls, which featured nice prawns, goes great in a peanut sauce. Found this place on Yelp since I was going to be close by and really wanted pho, I got there and thought maybe they only where open for take out? I ended up seeing a picture of the wonton soup pho and decided that's what I wanted since I can only go off by the pictures and the name of things. My friend got wonton with egg noodles and it was sooo good. Definitely true to the saying "the hole in the walls are worth it". My friend asked for more broth and we got it, no extra charge and I asked for a pineapple smoothie and a mango one. Both good. My friend got a strawberry smoothie and she enjoyed it. Restaurant is as clean as a whistle. Yes, they were closed by the Dept. of Health for a short while but absolutely cleaned up their act. By the way, one of my & many San Franciscan's favorite Vietnamese restaurants, Tu Lan on 6th off Market was also closed for several weeks by the Health Dept. a few years ago & reopened as good as ever. Food at Pho May as written about in my 1st 5 Star review 3 months ago is excellent. Very 'downtown' as in San Francisco where I have eaten Vietnamese food in various restaurants since 1975! I couldn't disagree with Mr. R more! Had a delicious Banh Mi tonight however I can assure you their dishes & pho are terrific. Great flavor & no skimping on portions. I just had to take the kids out to eat at the new Pho place in Martinez. We love soup what can I say. We got a great booth right in front and started ordering. We wanted to try all kinds of stuff. Funny enough the waitress actually questioned our food choices and the amount that we were ordering. Listen, my kids know what they want. They are quite experienced at restaurants. And what ever we dont eat we take home and eat later. He have no qualms about it. So that was odd. Ill order how much and whatever I want. Why question me? My son and I got soup. He went with Chicken Noodle Soup and I went with the Seafood Soup. About halfway through we swapped soups. Weird but Im a mom and you just do that for your kids sometimes. I really enjoyed both soups. I have zero complaints. Its was great Pho. My daughter went with the Fried Chicken Wings. These were the best by far of the entire order. First time visiting Pho May..I was greeted for take out..I said I would like to dine in..He took some time to take my order..Then, I waited and waited for my Pork sandwich..I was the only one Dining in..However, there were people (White and Asian) with take out who got served immediately..Anything they asked for they got with a smile ..After I was finished eating one half of my sandwich..I ask the lady if I could get another piece of wax paper to wrap my last piece..And the LOOK on that lady's face said it all..Like I was asking to much..Then I asked for some Sriracha to go....She only brought one single packet..I'm very BIG on Customer Service..and their's sucked...It could be because I am Black..I will never go back..and I'm sure they are OK with that as well..It's just so sad that we as a Black culture patronize these businesses..and we are just not wanted and get bad Service..If you are Black..you may want to reconsider eating here. read more

Really good pho and quick service! However, I wish they would answer their phone or update their number if they have changed it. Makes it very difficult to order especially when they are no longer accepting orders through DoorDash. Seems to be the only way to place an order is if you go in person. Edible and just ok. This is in regards to the pho. I love pho. It's something I can eat biweekly. The meat for the rare steak was good. In fact it was better then most pho places. Surprisingly tender. The reason it's getting three stars is because of the soup broth itself. Not that great, borderline disappointing when I'm comparing it to my usual spot. Kevin noodle house in concord or even better Walnut Creek. The broth needed more aromatics and possibly more bones to make it richer. The flavor and the richness just was not there. I went here bc of the location, it was the only pho place around especially on a Monday. It was not disappointing enough to go out of my way to get the good pho. I will most likely try it again.
