I had been meaning to try this Vietnamese sandwich kiosk for a while, so I finally made a point to try it when I was passing through Downtown Martinez. It's a charming area, and the Market & Main food court is such an inviting place with several takeout options. I decided to get a banh mi dinner for Jamie W and me, so I ordered the $9.50 Large Pork Belly Sandwich (Photo 4) and the $9.50 Large Five-Spice Chicken Sandwich (Photo 2) for us to share. Both came with a slathering of pate which was definitely a plus. We both agreed they were decent but so dominated by the bread and veggies that the proteins didn't have a chance. Surprisingly, the highlight turned out to be the $1.50 Parmesan Cheese Corn, a pair of munchable cobettes that worked as a contrasting flavor and texture (Photo 6). They offer other dishes like vermicelli plates and pho bowls, so I may need to consider those options if there's a next time. Decided to Door Dash Lunch from this place. Price was reasonable. I ordered a Pork Belly Bahn Mi Sandwich, 6 of their wings, korean sauce on the side & their pickled spicy green papaya. I was excited to see the size of the Bahn Mi sandwich, but disappointed in the texture of the bread. For me the bread makes a sandwich especially a Bahn Mi. The bread was a little hard into it. Was not sure it was fully fresh. The pork belly was rubbery & very thinly sliced and more veggie than meat. The wings came with the Korean sauce on them already, than on the side. The Korean sauce was soy sauce forward instead of a balanced flavor. Not a fan. The pickled papaya was not spicy & was pickled in a sweet pickling marinade. I guess I was expecting it to taste more vinegar forward. I have had plenty of Bahn Mi sandwiches in the area this was my least favorite. read more

I was really rooting for this location but the viet sandwich Banh mi doesn't seem to taste like most traditional Banh mi sandwiches. The prices seem reasonable but for the taste, maybe for those that don't know the authentic taste would enjoy them. I really wasn't here to try them out but the price truly pulled me in and I don't feel like I'd be returning for the sandwich ever again. The Vietnamese coffee was also bland but a little better when I brought it home and add flavor to it. I got to go but to dine in is available with shared seating with other restaurants in the building. Ordered at the kiosk and they texted us when the food was ready. We ate at five sons and paired it with a five son beer. We shared a full-size five spice chicken sandwich, a full size crispy pork roast sandwich, garlic noodles with grilled pork and a crispy pork rolls. There was enough food for all three of us. Ordered via Grubhub and wanted to support a local business. They have been open for sometime and have been wanting to try them out since I am a fan of Banh Mi sandwiches. This restaurant is located in the Market and Main food hall. I ordered two kinds, one was the five spiced chicken and the other was the beef. You can't tell from the photos, but they are pretty large in size. The price is around $10 and a great deal if you want a cheap lunch item. You can get a smaller size of any of these sandwiches. I had them put the pate on the side for both. It's not for everyone. The chicken had good taste to it but the sandwich was a bit too sweet. I prefer the beef one since the flavors were balance a bit more. Both of them came with a bit too much carrot, easily removed some of it. The roll was delicious and soft. Cucumber, jalapeños and parsley add a great flavor to balance out the flavors. I paid for extra meat and definitely did not see the difference. Ordered to Matcha Teas and it was interesting. Didn't like the after taste but the initial taste is good. The drink had a bite at the end, reminded me of the Indian Chai. Posting this review in hopes the family re-opens this business elsewhere. They served classic Vietnamese plates, sandwiches and rolls. By far my favorite were the shrimp rolls and their basil chicken plate. The later is not just any kind of basil chicken: it was flavorful, had spice (jalapeno & Serrano peppers) that kept you eating even if you're full. Of course the people there were nice working hard to get food out quickly. Very sad Market & Main closed forcing this restaurant to temporary go out of business. read more

So surprised to find a Bahn Mi place in Martinez. Stumbled upon it after doing some late afternoon antiquing and loved that it was in a food hall with a few other food options. The hubs and I opted to try their lemongrass pork bahn mi and their crispy pork spring rolls. So, so delicious! The bread was extra crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the pork was nicely seasoned and flavorful, and the freshness from the pickled veggies complimented the sandwich so well! As for the spring rolls, I didn't get a chance to try them, but the hubs finished them up later at home and said they were good! We also had their Vietnamese iced coffee while we were there. Very strong, slightly sweet, the perfect pick-me-up. We ordered from a kiosk, so our interaction with employees was very minimal. We got a text message when our order was ready for pick-up at the window, and even then, we didn't have a conversation with anyone working there. Although a friendly hello would have added to the experience, we mainly came for the food, which absolutely hit the spot! Back here again! This time I got the chicken, egg and rice plate. The food is good as per usual. However, I really wish they would take orders in person. Though the hours indicated that they would close at 5 they still remained opened towards 7PM when i came by. It is located inside a busy marketplace area, so finding seating can be a little tough during busy times. Parking also a little hard to come by. The food was decent but a nice place to drop by for that part of martinez if you're looking for a quick pho/banh mi fix! Beef pho- OK, wouldn't choose it over most pho places. Flavor was a little bland and the serving portions were small Pork belly banh mi-LOTS OF CARROTS, though it wasn't exactly what i had expected it tasted alright. Overall, the meal was satisfactory for what it was but could have definitely done better on portion sizes. I ordered for pick up on yelp... i ordered beef banh mi with extra meat, pork belly, fried pork and chicken banhmi. not sure if its the app or the staff there... but when i got there they told me they were out of beef. I asked the staff there why wasnt i notified or contacted for replacement. The staff didnt answer my question and just moved on to their other customers order. (For those who order online just be aware and have somewhere to be at certain time.. there can be a delay if they dont have what you ordered) My family enjoyed their order. We've been coming to the Sunday farmer's market every week for the past month and always make it part of our check list to grab a breakfast/ brunch at Banh Mi & Rolls. It's a stall inside the Market and Main and opens up at 10 am. You can either place your order on one of the touch screen pads, which shows you a picture of all the menu items, or at the counter. Our favorite items to get is the pork belly banh mi and the pork and shrimp spring rolls. The banh mi contains pickled carrots, radish, jalapeños, meat, and cilantro. The spring rolls are very refreshing, though the price difference between the large banh mi and the spring rolls is only 50 cents. I feel like the spring rolls should be a little bit less. Since this is a to-go stall, there is not a lot of interaction with the staff other than them calling our your number and you picking up your food. We had a bunch of family visiting for the week and on on of the Sundays they were here we went to the Farmers Market. Only myself and uncle have had Bahn Mi and we managed to talk everyone else into getting sandwiches. I of course went with the Pork Belly. I got a few different chicken options for the kids an done that was all meat mix. Its really impersonal ordering. You walk up to the iPad and order what you want. I had to order a few different times to add drinks an what not. If you are in a large group. Be prepared to go back and forth a few times. Or train your kids to order more efficiently I don't know. I liked the sandwiches but I would have liked to not have ordered jalapeno on them. I guess I didn't see the option to exclude and my poor kids, and myself, had our mouths burned off unexpectedly. Hence the sudden drink orders we had to do. Pork belly was excellent and will be my go to every time we come here. Its ok food and comes out pretty fast. Perfect bite to eat during my lunch break when I had jury duty. A little walk down main st from the courthouse is where you'll find the Market & Main building. Inside are other places to eat, but I was really craving banh mi. There are two kiosks that you can place your order and pay on. I usually like to stick around until they call my number and then bring it upstairs to the large seating area. There are booths, tables, a couch area and some booths have an outlet so I imagine you can bring your laptop and do some work if you'd like. I preferred to sit by the window and enjoy my meal, then read a book for the remainder of the lunch break. The Thai iced tea was good, not too sweet and the combo sandwich is my favorite! I got the mini instead of the full size. Full size is big enough to enjoy the other half later, but I didn't want it sitting in my backpack for the rest of jury duty. A good stop for grab-and-go or just a quick lunch. We've been wanting to go to the Market & Main in Martinez after hearing from some friends. Finally checked out this place for brunch and here's what we have. Started with Thai ice tea & Vietnamese coffee. Drinks are good but I felt like they put too much ice and the quantity wasn't justified with the price compared to other places. Ordered 2 mini Banh Mi and I love the size of it. It's smaller than the usual Banh Mi you get in the East Bay but enough to get kinda full. The baguette is better and more original than some other places nearby for sure. They don't put a lot of stuffings/meat cuts in there like we used to have. Been thinking whether we should have Pho or Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and decided to go low today with Pho. It's been so long since the last time I had it and the broth is just perfect for a rainy morning. I also like the type of beef cuts they put in there. The noodle is not quite to my expectation but the broth and beef were good enough. Parking downtown Martinez is a hit or miss. I'd recommend parking 1-2 blocks away and walk there since it's a cute walking street. Nice and cozy setup upstairs of the market so you can have a meal and stay chill for some coffee and books. read more

Stumbled upon this place and was a bit skeptical about the banh mi sandwiches at first. You place your order and pay on this kiosk that's next to the counter. the kiosk is a bit slow. After order, you'll receive a text when the food is ready. Got the 3 sandwiches (Lemongrass grilled pork, Pork Bologna, Pork Belly) and 1 Vietnamese coffee drink. The bread of the banh mi is a big size with a nice crunch exterior and soft interior. My favorite was the pork belly as it was the most flavorful. There just too much ground pepper for my liking in the sandwiches and the toppings i.e. carrots, cucumber jalapeños and parsley on the sandwiches was very fresh. I'm not sure if you can modify the sandwich on the computer but it's easy to remove. The coffee was strong and very flavorful - would recommend trying. Very reasonably priced. I'm not sure if this is an East Bay thing, but it's basically how much things would have cost in South Bay pre-COVID. You order on a kiosk and they will text you when your order is ready. The kitchen was a bit on the slow side. I ordered a grilled pork vermicelli. The flavor profile and combination of sweet, sour, and savory was great, and the pork had a very nice grilled aroma. Banh mi is good. Reminiscent of ones in San Jose for a decent price. $12 for combo with drink. Bread is crispy and fillings are good amount. I like the pate. I like the combo options for 2 small ones and drink. The Vietnamese iced coffee is also tasty. I would come back only because San Jose is so far and there's no options for banh mi in Martinez. Service SUCKS. I pre-ordered on Grubhub for 12pm pick up. Get there and get YELLED at because someone else already came to get the order at 10am when they opened. I explain that that person was NOT me. I was at work. That was probably another order. They argue for 10 minutes. Finally decide to begrudgingly make the sandwich. No apologies whatsoever. I am angry and can't really enjoy lunch now. I get it. Things get screwed up. But don't take it out on the customer or at least be more cordial about it. My friend and I had extra time and decided to explore a bit of Martinez and ran into this Vietnamese place inside the market! It's a small stall and you order on screens so there is little to no interaction with the workers! There is a good amount of seating around the stall and the upstairs had booths as well! The rest of the market was very cute and had other food options and other items you can shop for! There were a good amount of different options of Vietnamese food, I ordered the: - Five Spice Chicken Banh Mi and it was 8.50 for a full! It was a decent price for the size and the sandwhich itself was good, however I do think it was a bit dry and lacking in a bit of flavor! I wish I asked for a side of vietnamese mayo or some kind of sauce! There were other items on the menu that I was interested in trying and I would definitely want to come back to try them. I also ordered a thai ice tea and the kind man used almond milk instead of regular milk for lactose intolerant me. Really appreciate it. It is located inside this food market. I ordered a spicy chicken bahmi sandwich. When the food is ready you get a text and pick it up at the counter. There's literally no human interaction. The sandwich was good. The chicken itself was not spicy there was a ton of jalapeños in the sandwich. There was nowhere I saw to add extra pickled veggies. The sandwich was good and the presentation was good. I just don't like the no human interaction and that I could not add extra pickles veggies. This is more like a 3.5 it was good I would return but there was no option for 3.5. Plate had barely any protein but a whole lot of white rice. The roll looked and tasted boring. Roll had only noodles and shrimp inside. If the portion of the plate was fair (more protein) and the rolls had carrots and cucumbers, I would've given this place 4 stars. We came here to try out their #1 combo banh mi, bun bo hue and Vietnamese iced coffee. Banh Mi Combo (#1): the bread, pickled carrot, and veggies are fresh and tasty. The pate is not too overwhelming, nor under seasoned, but I did have issues with his thin the slice of meat and there were only two type of meat (sliced pork and cha lua). Overall, it was decent. Can't compete with the Banh Mi Ba Le combo sandwich. Bun Bo Hue: the broth is ok, not as authentic as the one in San Jose or Westminister/Santa Ana. I didn't really taste the lemongrass in it. Again, they were a bit stingy with the meat, but the bowl were pretty fulfilling, nothing to WOW about. Vietnamese iced coffee: not authentic, tasted like they added vanilla flavor (when it should be three simple ingredients: ice, french coffee/espresso (slow drip) and condense milk). it's hard to explain, but definitely not the simple Vietnamese iced coffee where you get from a authentic restaurant/cafe shop. Overall, the food and drinks pretty much caters to westerners, flavor are not authentic, but it's not bad either. I did enjoy the pate in the Banh Mi, but wished they were more generous with the meats. The place seems to be pretty busy during lunch time on 12/8/2022. Oh boy. So I very rarely give 1 star reviews. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt, round up, etc. I've done about 300 reviews, the vast majority of which are 4 stars or above, and have only given 1 star ten times. This was a definite 1 star. Here's what happened: It was a hot day so after finishing lunch at another place, I stopped by here to get a sugar cane juice. I ordered from the kiosk, paid with my credit card, it said they would text me when my order was ready. I waited...waited...and after 15 minutes, I stood by the counter to check on the status of my drink. I had to wait another couple minutes to even get anyone's attention. I asked if she could check on the status of my drink, as I had been waiting almost 20 minutes. She dismissively said "oh we ran out" and turned back around. No apology, no offering any alternative, no explanation as to why I was never informed. I had to yell back that I had been waiting over 15 minutes, and asked why she never told me. She said "we're busy." Busy??? It wasn't busy at all. There were barely any people. Second of all, even if it was busy, it takes two seconds to tell me, so I didn't have to waste my time waiting around. Did she expect me to magically know they ran out, and leave? Also they use an electronic kiosk for ordering...either there needs to be a way to cross out an item that out of stock, or she needs to speak up. She then yelled back "I already cancelled!"...as if I should have known? There was no notice, the only text I got was that my order was received. She also couldn't provide anything that showed I got a refund, no receipt or anything. As I was leaving, I got a dismissive "sorry" as she turned to walk away. I don't care that they ran out, as that happens all the time. It was infuriating that she thought it was ok for me to wait around without any sort of notice, then acted like I was the unreasonable one. Horrible customer service, horrible attitude. read more

Let me preface this review by saying I'm from Houston, the capital of Vietnamese food in America. I've been looking for a solid banh mi spot for a minute around here and this is my place now. I stopped by on a sleepy Sunday and got the combo banh mi and the crispy roasted pork banh mi. Sweated the 10 minutes out -- I swear I'm not used to these kiosks for ordering (the only slightly negative part about the experience) -- prefer human interaction. Sandwiches were the bomb. I recommend both sandwiches. The combo sandwich had whole peppercorns in it -- consider it. The crispy roasted pork was also bomb -- the name speaks for itself. Got both sandwiches for under $20. I knew this place was the real deal when I saw some of the sandwich options. Sardines? Am I back in Houston? Good portions of meat and vegetables. Yes, like other reviewers, I found there was a lot of carrots but I liked it. $9.50 for the roll is reasonable for me. Ordered the mangonada drink, it was good! Good size-reminded me of a large boba drink size for $7.50. Food came out fast and ordering was easy on the iPad. However, not sure if you can add comments to make adjustments to your food. I liked that ordering on the iPad was easy and you get a text notification when your food is ready. They even had a system announcing when your number was called indicating your food was ready. This spot is in the Martinez public market. So there are community tables and chairs. Parking can be hard, it is street parking but rates for street parking are reasonable-I found a meter that charges 0.50 cents per hour. read more
