Roast (veg) Pork and veg fried rice 1. Roast Pork

Wow! When I read the comments I was skeptical but oh my! The food is delicious but I almost didn't eat the vegpork because it tasted like meat. It was so good though. . I do not need my food to be meat. However this was good on its own. So I want to name it something else. The rice was on the money. I ate it over three days because it was more than enough for one serving.

Located in the basement of a Buddhist temple, this vegetarian restaurant is a neighborhood gem. It has a great lunch combo deal where you can choose an entree that comes with soup, peanuts, and tea for under $10. I highly recommend getting the Fish Filet and Bean Curd Combo and the Hot and Spicy Hot. They have one waitress on staff who works quickly to get your order in. The restaurant is dimly lit and can seat many groups of people. Definitely give this spot a try!

Highlights/things to know: - awesome option for vegetarians in a meat-heavy area - cash only - lunch special 11:30-3:00 entree, rice, soup, and tea for $7.75, surprisingly big portions so it's hard to imagine a better deal - very fast service - really enjoyed my braised pork, would probably give it 4/5 but the price and quantity of food makes this a 5/5 for me - the entrance is easy to walk past, as you have to go downstairs from the street I'll definitely be going back!

Not sure if the place is all vegetarian ? But the lunch special was very good. Very zen and peaceful relaxed place with a nice incense aroma. The soup was very good. Not salty or heavy on broth. The broccoli and tofu was served in a fast light sauce. Service was very good too. Entrance is on the side and downstairs.

I LOVED Lucky Vegetarian! Not only were their prices absolutely amazing (especially their lunch special), but the food was so tasty. I went on a weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. They're situated under a bank so the side door that leads down to the restaurant is a little hard to see at first. But the space below is large and the food service was very quick. I think this is the perfect place for a quick sit down lunch or dinner, that's filling and very enjoyable. I'm excited to come back sometime!

Don't get lost like me because this restaurant was next to a temple and I did not expect it to be located downstairs from the temple. The restaurant was really clean but quite empty. I imagine this is a local spot for vegetarians in 8th Ave. There was only one lady working but she was quick to bring us tea and the menu. I actually love temple vegetarian food that my mom used to bring home so I had high expectations coming here. We ordered the roast pork, Buddha delight, and this 'chicken' veggie stir fry (lunch menu). The roast pork was pretty interesting. It's made with tofu, sesame oil, and char siu sauce. Definitely does not have the same texture as real char siu but I liked how it was very chewy and I didn't feel heavy while eating it. The Buddha delight was quite disappointing. The broccoli tasted really raw and had a weird aftertaste. I loved the taro in this dish though. Otherwise, it's a pass for me. Lastly, the chicken stir fry tasted similar to the char siu but without the sauce. Still just as chewy and I would not mind getting this again. Next time I must come with locals because the aunties in front of my party were ordering such yummy food. Can't me though because I'm a newbie here! Come here and experience something new !!!

In a neighborhood filled with restaurants advertising roast pork, duck, and other poultry rice dishes, a vegetarian-only restaurant lies beside a 8th Ave corner. You might miss the place! Two of my friends sure did. Right as you open the red door entrance, and go down the stairs, you will enter into a cozy dimly lit den. There was only one worker taking and serving orders. I would like to preface there are 2 bathrooms, and they were modern compared to others in the area! The Roast Pork ($11.95) was worth a try. It had the familiar vibrant red look, and sweet glaze smell, but the taste was a chewy bean curd-like texture. You can almost trick yourself into thinking you were eating the fat part of the pork with how airy they were. The Buddha's Delight ($18.95) was a huge dish, so I assume their other main course dishes are just as big. It looked nothing like what my friend had pulled up from the Google images. You can actually have the more accurate dish in other Canto restaurants. Here, they had way too many broccoli, which had a really bad boiled taste to it. The fried taro, though, was a great addition, and offered a sweet taste to the otherwise savory vegetable stacked dish. The Stewed Veg Chicken with 3 Cup Sauce Combo ($7.50) was from the lunch special, for a lunch special portion size! Despite the smaller size, I would still recommend the lunch specials as an afforable dabble into the various menu options. It also came with rice and seaweed tofu soup. Unlike the Roast Pork, the "chicken" was really a regular soy sauced bean curd, without any taste to make me think "Ah, this is supposed to be chicken!" The lunch special prices are unbeatable, and the food, good for a first try into Chinese Vegetarian! But the service could definitely be improved, from the amount of times we had to flag the one worker down, and that we had to ask for our lunch special soup. Great food option in 8th Ave nonetheless!

This is one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn, located under a monastery. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the staff is friendly. My favorites are the roast pork, which is full of flavor and a little crispy, and seafood pan fried noodles, which is veggies and veggie protein on a bed of crispy noodles with brown gravy.

There are so many great vegetarian spots in NY. And this is one of them. It's an authentic Chinese sit down restaurant which serves you tea and makes amazing vegetarian food. I ordered the Chinese Mahogany Fried Rice and Roast Pork. So tasty! I will be back if I'm ever in the area. It's not too far from Maimonides Hospital where I was visiting a family member. I love that NY can make you feel totally transported into another country and the surrounding neighborhood is special in that way. Asian herbs, markets and street vendors. If you're ever around don't skip this spot! Vegetarian or not the food is sooooooo good.

So good here. I'm typically a dedicated carnivore, but that changes when I go here. It is so worth it.

Five flavor plate - a nice amuse-bouche that went through a series of flavors: Hawthorne jelly for sour, yams for sweet - butter melon jelly for bitter, mushroom.and black pepper for spicy, and radish cracker for salty. The bitter melon was my favorite and definitely wasn't that better - it had pleasant spices almost like a chutney. Next was mushrooms in a light cucumber sauce, followed by a savory and thick 18 vegetable soup. This was a nice back to back contrast of light and simple with rich and hearty. The next three courses were aiming to imitate meat a little more. The first was a grilled mushroom over fragrant green millet. Then, sweet and sour tofu skin, and another grilled mushroom covered in a curry sauce. Of these, the tofu skin was my favorite as the bright course in between the savory ones. Next was rice in a savory broth with peach jelly, and then a nutty noodle dish with a smooth and creamy sauce with a nice blend of spices. These helped round out the meal, and the noodles were especially tasty. To end was a dessert made from berries and sweet potato, almost with the texture of ice cream. Reservation is required and the meal is prepaid except for tip. The whole thing came to about $130 each after tax and tip. I found the meal to be less heavy than most other tasting menus and very creative.

Served as a progressive prix fixe menu, dishes arrive one after the other. We started with a delightful five-flavor plate--each bite focusing on a different taste profile--plus cucumber-sauced mushrooms and a grounding Bodhi Buddha soup. Rich matsutake mushrooms and sweet-and-sour riblets followed, paired with bowl-steamed rice and noodles, before finishing with a refreshing sweet potato dessert. Service is smooth. Our server, Hannah, paced the courses briskly and professionally, perfect since we had a show afterward. Still, block out at least an hour and a half to truly enjoy the thoughtfully curated meal. The space is fully wheelchair friendly with wide pathways. Because it is strictly reservation-only, plan ahead. It works beautifully for celebrations or a romantic evening.

While in Brooklyn visiting my family, I was walking around Nostrand and ran into Ital Fusion. As…read moresoon as I saw the name Ital I just knew it was going to be good . It's a vegetarian restaurant with so many yummy options it's so hard to choose. The first time I went I had some spinach rice, callaloo, pumpkin, & soy chunks. Everything was so good. The second time I went I had vegetable fried rice, callaloo, cabbage & kale with a lentil patty. The lentil patty was flaky, crusty goodness. I wish I could bring this place back to AZ with me because we really need some real West Indian restaurants there Since it's so close to the house I'm probably going to just eat here every day until I leave
