We have driven by one of the Lucky Wishbone locations for years since moving here in 2005 but never gone in... until today! I love chicken fingers, so why not. It appeared they had redone the interior, it was nice and clean and had a Tucson OG vibe to it. I ordered a 2 piece chicken finger meal and my hubby did the 6 piece shrimp. I loved the little box they serve the meals in. Fries were okay, chicken fingers were good and the Texas toast was decent. My husband said he liked the chicken fingers better than the shrimp (he was grazing on my box) Bottom line, it is fried food so do not come here if you are seeking healthy. Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - absolutely delicious food for the mains but the sides were not that impressive POP (8 piece) Gizzard with Onion Rings, Garlic Toast, and 2 sauces. The gizzards were fried well but didn't have much flavor other than the batter. The onion rings were nicely fried but not much flavor either so needed ketchup or sauce to help it along. The garlic toast was very oily/greasy especially as you get closer to the center. The lucky wishbone sauce tasted of cocktail sauce with some more horseradish 7 piece Dark Special with a mix of legs and thighs. The fry on these chicken was amazing with such a crunch on the outside but the inside was deliciously moist. The batter is on the saltier side but still so good Ambience: 4/5 - older restaurant that smelled slightly of disinfectant and not at all of the food. A simple and easy to read menu with almost everything that can be customized in a combo box I ordered a Mom steak finger box. I was told the "sauce" is like a cocktail sauce. So I switched it out for ranch. Didn't think it went well with steak fingers. Being from Texas, I would have preferred cream gravy. Being used to DQ, I was surprised at the size of the steak fingers. They were about the width of 3 of their french fries. But had a nice chew to them and I could tell they were the real deal. Absolutely love the garlic toast. Another Tucson tradition taking their years of business for granted. This evening I was craving some good fried chicken and had heard about Lucky Wishbone being a fine place for just that. When I went in at 7:30 pm, 30 minutes before closing, I asked for a Pops Special. The manager came out from the back and said they could give me 1 breast and five wings. I was a bit suspicious at this generosity. I asked when it was cooked. She said today. I asked what time and she hesitated and said 2:00 in the afternoon. She said but not to worry I can refry the fried chicken to heat it up. I said thanks but no thanks and walked away. Refried fried chicken that is dry after being under heat lamp for five hours turns into a grease sponge with the most horrible flavor. I have been to the majority of the locations but I chose to review this one because this is the location I frequented since I was a little girl. Family feasts can be split to include, my recommendation, both steak and chicken fingers. You can also swap the coleslaw for another side - but why would you unless you are getting multiple feasts? The lucky burger is above other fast food joints but not to the caliber of in n out. Their chicken (not fingers) is good but a little greasy. COVID-19 edition: This was pretty good. It's take-out only, and not everything sold here survives the trip home. But the fried chicken itself does very well and I recommend it. The online ordering system seems straightforward enough with this one caveat: there is no chocolate cake. This is only my second try at Lucky's, and my first at this location. The chain is a Tucson favorite, and I think that's justified. We tried a variety of items -- bone-in chicken, chicken livers, shrimp, fish, fries. Pickup was mostly easy, and then it was back in the car and immediately head home. I thought the chicken itself was good -- flavorful and not too greasy, and the underlying chicken was moist and tender. Leftover pieces the next day were just as tasty. The other items in our order did not survive the trip home as well. I liked the fish fingers, but thought they would have been great when fresh out of the fryer. The shrimp was okay. Our dogs loved the chicken livers. We thought they were just okay. I mentioned our attempt to order the chocolate cake via the online menu. I was immediately called and told that they had no cake, and would I like something else? No, thank you. I was a bit wary when I was charged for the cake, and the manager said he had "requested the refund." Really? But the refund appeared the next day. I wrote a Yelp review, and also have contacted them on the size of the chicken used in the fried chicken. This is not cheap stuff. But, when the company never responded when you contact them on through their website several times, they simply do not care. I cannot find chicken that small in the store! I have had hot wing drumettes that are bigger than the chicken legs they serve there. I support local, and such a shame that they do not respond to direct feedback, and obviously have made no effort to correct anything. A family member brought some home the other night, wow, it was poor. It gets dry as it is just so small, that it is half breading. I was quite pleased with my experience at Lucky Wishbone. It was clean and the service was fantastic (friendly and efficient). I no longer live in Tucson but spent many a childhood afternoon eating Lucky Wishbone, one of my Dad's favorites so while in town decided to run by. My favorite thing as a child was the bread... well that hasn't changed! It was still fabulous! And the rest of our order was good too. No complaints from any of the six hungry people awaiting for me to arrive with their dinner. I just called in for an order and I live all the way at Rita ranch and forgot to bring my shirt for my free soda . With all this corona virus happening this man that i spoke to ,said no , anyone can call in and get a free soda is his reply . Mom and I were out running errands and decided to grab a quick lunch. We drove by Lucky Wishbone and realized we hadn't eaten here in a while so made a quick turn-around and there we were. Mom got the mom-sized chicken livers and 2 chicken legs. I had the mom-sized fried shrimp. I love their Lucky Wishbone sauce (cocktail sauce??) and dip both the shrimp and fries into it. The garlic bread is listed as one to Tucson's 100 essential dishes and I wholeheartedly agree. BTW, the chicken livers are always good here too. This store has a wide range of customers. We saw Air Force, cowboys, office workers, retirees, homeless and a couple moms with kids. Something about being close to midtown I guess? It made for fun people watching for sure!
