This place used to be great. We got caught in the rain and decided to give it a try after many years of not having it. The setup is nice here and we sat outside since it felt nice. Service was nice and good timing on everything. But whoever is over the food is dropping the ball. We ordered quite a few things. The chicken and chips were our favorite but the chicken was tough and definitely dried out. The fried pickles were very very very salty. Couldn't eat them. I gobble down the fried okra, which was really delicious, but I came to this place for fried chicken. I bought individual pieces because I wanted two sides. Thighs were $4.50 each, so $9 for two. Ramshackle older place- lots of folks have obviously loved this place for many years, and I do too. Just a perfect vibe. Service was friendly and efficient without being "too much". We loved everything we tried- which included chicken tenders, turnip greens, cheese grits and Mexican Coke sweet potatoes. All were at the top of their game. Honestly, some of the best grits and greens I have ever had. As for the tenders, if you like crust these are good because they are thin, so you're getting a larger crust to chicken ratio. As it is I had to choose and narrowed it down to items that I don't see often. Like deep fried deviled eggs! So delicious! The only thing wrong is that you only get 4. Creole Okra, which is a spicy okra stew awesome...I could have a bowl full! I ordered the fried chicken basket...which come with drumstick, wing, thigh and breast...all on the bone...all delicious, moist, tender and well seasoned....did I mention all pieces were crispy! I didn't expect all the pieces to be juicy and moist from personal experience it's super easy to over cook a wing. I personally like a more battered chicken but Lucy's knows how to cook chicken. It took almost a decade to actually try this place! I really like the vibe here. There's both indoor and outdoor seating available. I'm a fried chicken lover but I'm also very particular. I enjoy fried chicken that's well seasoned (could be Chicago style, Indian seasonings etc), spicy versions, Korean, and Nashville. Not the biggest fan of just regular bland fried chicken. Unfortunately, Lucy's only has the regular and no spicy or seasoned option, and the regular doesn't have spices or flavoring to it. So for me it was pretty bland. I also tried the Nashville Hot Chicken special that was on the board. It was decent but does not compare to T22 in terms of spiciness, preparation, presentation, and taste. With that said, I felt the quality of the chicken was pretty good and the leftovers held up well under the air fryer a few hours later. Also tried DEEP FRIED DEVILED EGGS and LUCY'S FRIED PICKLES (actually order CHICKS AND CHIPS but received this instead). Both were good for what they were. Casual dining at its best (you sit semi-outdoors at picnic tables and benches), you'd better come hungry because you are going to want to order everything. Fortunately there were eight of us so we got to sample everything from the fried chicken and catfish to the chicken-fried steak and the "Kinky" club. Our waiter was a no-nonsense kind of guy who still tolerated all the questions from our British visitors with barely concealed amusement. We sat inside because it was a little chilly in Austin today. Our server didn't have much personality. He was nice. Fix the nasty waffles! Food quality is lacking all around. I ordered chicken and waffles through Uber Eats and the waffles are absolutely disgusting. Why would you put chunks of sugar cubes inside the waffle? It added a really weird gross crunch inside the waffle filled with an extremely intense fake sweet flavor. Don't fix what isn't broken. Just make normal waffles. Aside from the weird sugar cubes, the waffles (and everything else for that matter) had a strange after taste. The chicken was edible, but the butter was nasty. That's not "honey butter" it's just totally melted butter Service wasn't great either as they also forgot my chipotle ranch that I paid extra for. I won't ever eat here again. I only had the one that you see in the pic, but it was a beaut! We actually ordered regular ranch, rather than the chipotle ranch, and we vastly preferred it with everything! Fried Green Tomatoes - now, these were definitely my jam! The freshness of the tomato really balanced out the fried in a gorgeous way, and I'd 100% order this many times over! Hubby loved them, too! Fried Chicken Livers - let me hasten to say right here that this was darling husband's pick, and not a single bit of it crossed my lips, but he says this, "I acknowledge that liver is not to everyone's taste, but for those who DO like liver, these were exceptional!
