We ended up both bringing home our other entrees as the poutine was a pretty large size. We had a family member move to the GR area last year. So glad they did. They took us to Lucy's for breakfast and it was well worth the wait. When you go out for breakfast, you want to have something you can't necessarily make at home. Lucy's does that! A nice variety of unique skillets, pot pies and baked goods you don't find at a typical breakfast place. Cafe Miel is about as unique a breakfast coffee drink as you'll ever find. Eating at Lucy's makes me wish I lived in Grand Rapids. The food was amazing - I don't eat pork, so I'm typically left with the corned beef hash breakfast option. This is usually a kind of beef flavored gruel that is of questionable origin (probably a can they open and heat up). But not at Lucy's. It was tender morsels of actual slow cooked flavorful beef. I added on pickled red onions and jalapeños, both things I eat regularly at home, but can't find quality options at restaurants. This added the perfect amount of crunch and sour/spicy to my meal. The service was efficient, and swift. I went twice in the week I was in Michigan. The first time the server was very attentive, sweet and rocked. The server on the second visit wasn't as good but was still decent. The ambiance - this restaurant is beautiful, and looks like it would be the set of a TV show diner in a small town. Very nice. Best spot to eat at in GR. You won't regret it. I loved it so much I went twice in less than a week. The menu changes but they have their staples. The peach cobbler bread pudding is to die for. We were traveling in the area and always like to try local restaurants. It was a great experience! Coffee was delicious which is essential for a good breakfast/brunch restaurant. I had a skillet breakfast with corned beef (the real stuff, not processed), eggs and potatoes. It was so fresh and delicious! Atmosphere and service was also excellent. It did take awhile to get our meals but I noticed only one cook In the open kitchen area and the place was quite busy with customers. This place used to be an old grocery store, and I LOVE how they were able to revamp it into a cool new cafe. This cafe definitely brings life to the neighborhood! The bakery section gives me Marie Catrib's vibes (RIP). And the menu is packed with quality/unique options as well as some old school classics. This morning my family and I went for the first time. My daughter got the classic pancakes (kid menu), my husband got the Spicy Hash, and I got the Smoothie Bowl. I took bites of everything and it was all SO good! We also got a couple mimosas which were rather strong (but in a good way haha). The vibe inside is very rustic/modern. I've been here twice and the service has been disappointing. I feel the servers are overwhelmed or the restaurant section is short staffed so management might want to look into that. Both times I had to go to the coffee shop on the other side of the cafe to get my drinks or something I asked the server for that took forever. Wow, I feel bad bucking the trend here but I had a full-on 3-star experience. We were greeted in the perfunctory way someone who doesn't want to greet people...greets people. So that was weird. Lots of open tables in the main eating area but we were seated in the cold overflow area for some reason... I did like the Hazelnut coffee, that was good. I opted for the Creston scramble, though it's not listed as GF you can remove the gravy and sub GF toast and make it so. And I did! It was a good sized portion but man, that gravy must be something magical because my dish was 100% devoid of flavor. Like no flavor. The corned beef had no flavor, no salt, no brine hint, nothing. The potatoes were cooked well but I don't think they were seasoned either. My eggs were cooked over medium, as requested, perfectly. But the dish as a whole needed a lot of hot sauce to get close to tasting like anything. I wound up not finishing it because I was so bummed to keep eating something that tasted like nothing. The service was nice and polite from our server and he was knowledgeable about the GF options and substitution choices. The GF toast was okay, but it came with a metal ramikan of jam that was enough for half of one slice of toast, not sure what's up with that... So yea. I left feeling sad that the food wasn't great, the hostess wasn't inviting, we were seated in the cold drafty overflow when there were plenty of tables in the main dining area, and that the flavor for my dish seemed to have been left in the kitchen. The prices are fair- routine breakfast for $6 and special dishes up to $13. The three adults in our party ordered the Breakfast Pot Pie, the Daamico Omelette and the Creston for our meals. We splurged and shared a tasty Fire Ring Pancake (fried in bacon grease with peanut butter goodness). Pro tip: Don't sleep on the housemade, grilled biscuits and honey. Came here while on a trip visiting my boyfriends family and "I" personally liked it and liked my dish. I ordered the chicken & waffles and they do a special spin on the fried chicken that makes it taste really good with like a slightly sweet Thai sauce. I LOVED it... however him & his family did not like much. They complained that the coffee wasn't strong enough and the toast was soggy. When asked for an additional tea cup, the cup that she (our server) brought over was visibly dirty. That just annoyed them all even more to where they wanted to leave. However I wanted to stay and eat and I personally like when restaurants get creative (probably because I'm from California) so my meal (or chicken I should say) was delicious. My French toast was average at best so I only took 2 bites and our server was VERY nice & patient. I wouldve rated them a 4 but because of the experience of the dirty cup & French toast I had to knock it down. However I definitely WOULD be willing to try them again personally. read more

Such a cute brunch spot in GR!!! The interior is well decorated and perfect for families and large groups. There's a little cafe too where you can get pastries and coffee while you wait! We went on Sunday around 12 pm, waited around 15 minutes to get seated, and then waited around 45 minutes for our food...
