Very cute little place in a small town just north of Frisco. Just what I needed after the seemingly endless malls and urban sprawl. I had banana cream pie and a Texas beer. The woman serving was very friendly and welcoming. I can see that this place probably gets a nice group of people but I was here on a quiet Friday afternoon. Still it felt good to see something not prepackaged. I recommend it for those who need to feel like they see something of a place when they visit and can connect. This place is cute but the food was no good. The french fries were almost black from using old oil, the bacon on the chicken sandwich was burnt, the fried green tomatoes were like crumbs and tasted like pickles. They do have alot of cream pies though. Chocolate pie was good. read more

Came in here this morning for the first time. Great atmosphere with Texas-homestyle decorations. We walked in to be greeted by the hostess, who was very welcoming and had a great smile. She immediately asked if we preferred a booth or a table, and took us to a booth near the front of the restaurant. Our waitress, Leah, was extremely attentive and got our drinks right away. Throughout our meal she was very friendly and hilarious, making plenty of conversation as she checked up on us. Breakfast was very good, everything was cooked extremely well and very flavorful, and came out very quickly with no mistakes. We can't wait to come back and try the key lime pie and other desserts our waitress told us about! You can tell these girls love this place and have a good time doing a great job! read more

Twice we have been here. First time chicken fried steak was dry and stringy. Tried it again tonight for just a hamburger ..worse hamburger I have ever had. It had no seasonings. Lettuce was soggy. Great place to eat in Celina. Stopped by while working in the area. Ordered the Bobcat burger medium well yesterday. It was cooked perfect. Today I ordered the chicken fried chicken. Same thing- it was good. It looks like a place out of an old western in the square in Celina. Sweet tea is just right as well. I don't usually write reviews, but I came in here for the first time after a long day at work, i decided to stop by a different restaurant and was greeted super nicely by the hostess! After being seated while the place was packed, I began to get waited by a young girl named Hannah who looked very busy at the time. Despite her being busy she greeted me and my friends very wonderfully, asking us how we were and being very quick while serving us. She made lots of jokes and was very nice, It had been a long day and she helped me and my friends relax and enjoy ourselves, i am definitely going to come back! Great place to get a small town meal, but 2 things that have bugged me: you took away the breakfast buffet on the weekends, and you are very slow in food delivery during peak times. On 2 separate occasions (a year apart), we came to eat a Sunday breakfast and waited upwards of an hour from the time of ordering our food to the time it arrived. Every year or so my friend and I (alumni of Celina high) come here for breakfast. We love that we are not rushed in the slightest and the food is very homey. However, when I've come for lunch and dinner I am not impressed with the quality or taste of the meal. Definitely try the desserts! My favorite are the gluten free cupcakes. Last year, I tried to order a peanut butter pie for my wife's birthday since it is her favorite dessert. I called ahead on the Friday before to make sure they had enough time to have the pie ready. When I went in to pick up the order on her birthday, the pie was not available. Obviously, a huge disappointment! We decided on that day that we would not go to Lucy's again. Fast forward one year.... My wife convinced me to try again since she loves peanut butter pies so much. So this time, I called in as soon as they opened to give them as much time as possible to make the pie, but not too much time where they would forget it like the year before. Well, this time, they told me they could not make it same-day. The moral of the story is do not set your expectations high with Lucy's. Our experience is they will let you down consistently on the most important days when it matters most. UPDATE. To their credit, Lucy's contacted me by phone to arrange for a same-day pie, and though it wasn't ready when advertised, the management was very apologetic and was willing to fix the situation. At the end of the day, my wife will get her peanut butter pie. A step in the right direction. read more

Detailed Review: We went there for the first time - because we received a coupon in the USMail for buy-one entry get next/less free. We went at dinner time 6pm on a Sat. Location/Impression - it is in downtown Celina - on the square - which is not a big square - but it is what you expect for a small town. It is in an old store front - old all brick building - tin ceiling - misc decorations. You can easily park on the street. Service - Seemed to be 3 high school guys actually waiting tables. (other people around) They talk nice to you - but as time goes on - they act like they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. (this is more a training/approach problem) (the mgmt at this place needs to re-train the staff on how to provide service - do this process, never do this, make sure the customer is aware....) Our waiter did refill my soda 3 times - which does make me happy. He did check on us plenty of times. Menu- Pies, Sandwiches, Burgers, Plate Meals (chicken fried X, etc). Seems to be focused on fresh made items. NOTE - the burgers and sandwiches come with chips. It does not say on the menu by the sandwiches/burgers list - but fries are an ala-carte extra at $2.50. (you have to figure this out for your self). But after my wife ordered her sandwich - the waiter just asked if she wanted fries. Did not mention the up-charge. (some would say this is a little shady - some would say they just charged us for what we ordered) Food- it was good. My chicken fried chicken was good. Mashed potatoes were very good (fresh mashed). The fries are good - the normal for fresh cut - not crispy on the outside - but good. My wife's Chicken club (or some chicken type sand) - was fine. Something about the red onions she did not like (not sure why - tasted fine to me) Comfort - The place has basic tables and booths. Bathroom was fine. Had big fan running - blowing on downstairs. (I get the impression with the big 2 story open space - that AC cooling may be an issue when it gets really hot outside) Checkout - Had an issue here. We had the coupon of course. We showed it to him when we ordered (and it was sitting on our table the entire time we ate) He did not bring me a check. Said he would check me out at the front. So I went up there. Handed him the coupon. He confirmed our order items - and gave me a total verbally (no check). I had to ask him to apply the coupon. (as the total was clearly not correct) And for some reason - he did no take off the $8 for the sandwich (smaller entry) - he just gave me 50% my entry - $5. Again - no check to see this - he just told me the total. I knew this was not correct, but frankly I was ready to leave. So I paid with ccard - and only after the swipe -did I finally get a ccard check - to sign. With tip - it was $25 - w the coupon. (so some $30 for 2 basic but good items) Bottom Line - For that amount of money for sit down, you can get better food and service. Wonderful people but slow service. Went for a quick lunch but after thirty minutes of sitting without food we realized we were in for a long one. They have a home style menu full of delicious sounding meals, but after trying a few times, I have not found anything that tastes as good as it sounds. I was very excited about visiting this restaurant after reading about it in Texas Monthly's list of small-town restaurants. I read positive reviews on various websites and confirmed their operating hours on the restaurant's own website before heading up from downtown Dallas on a Saturday night a few weeks ago, along with a friend who had driven from Fort Worth, and another who we picked up along the way in Allen. We parked our car and walked up to Lucy's front door at 8:00 PM, a full hour before the closing time posted not only on their website, but on the restaurant door itself. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the "CLOSED" sign hanging in the window! I could clearly see several tables still occupied with customers enjoying their dinner, so I continued inside. I asked the girl who walked out from the back area if they really were closed, and she replied that "the owner went home early tonight" so they closed early. You can imagine my disappointment after having driven over an hour to patronized this restaurant. The girl I had spoken with recommened another restaurant around the corner - which was pretty good - but not something I would have made the drive for. I contacted the restaurant by email (provided on their website) after returning home that night to relate my disappointing experience. I was rather suprised that to date I have had no reply from Monica, the owner. Even more surprising that when I emailed a second time telling her that I couldn't believe that my first email had received no response, that message too has apparently fallen on deaf ears! If it were all about the food, I would give a higher rating I think. What always get's me about this place is that no matter if there are 2 people or 20 people the food takes foreverrrrrr. My husband and I have stopped by a couple of times for breakfast and each time we have waited at least 30 minutes for eggs and toast. The first time, I even had to get up and get our own menu's and silverware because the waitresses were too busy near the back talking. And maybe spandex leggings aren't the best choice to serve breakfast in...just a thought? On the plus side, I love their chicken strips, espescially the buffalo style. Yummmmm. After two disappointing visits in as many years I decided to give Lucys a chance a third time deciding to eat breakfast this time. First right off the bat service was slow. When the waiter finally stopped by he asked what we (my companion and I) wanted to drink. He walked off as I was ordering coffee and water. Apparently he didn't hear the water part because I had to ask again. We both ordered the pancakes and I additionally ordered biscuits and gravy and bacon sides. It took an unusually long time to get the food and when it did arrive the food was cold; all of it! The bacon was all fat and unedible and the gravy and biscuits weren't worth eating the extra carbs. Luckily I live in the area so it wasn't out of my way to stop by but many people who want to get out of their surroundings to drive out to the country for "country cooking" would feel sorely disappointed. We hadnt been to Lucys in some time the old owners had lost our business due to poor sevice and bad food. Today we decided to give the new Lucys a try. The dining room was clean, the tables were well arranged with plenty of room in the aisles, the restaurant was decorated in a kind of fun funky country way. There seemed to be plenty of staff and are waiter was on his game, all good so far. We orderd fried pickles, they arrived quickly and were hot but boy were they salty and oily. I orderd a Rueben and fries my wife orderd the chicken salad sandwhich with carrotts on the side. My Rueben and fries came in a basket, the fries were so greasy that they soaked the bread of my sandwhich so it was almost impossible to pick it up. My wife said her chicken salad sandwhich was good, she didnt eat her carrots they had some kind of sweet glaze on them not really her speed. We orderd sodas my wifes Dr pepper was flat the waiter switched it out for a coke. The service at Lucys was good the food was not that great. With a $4 tip lunch for two was $29. read more

I created an account to make this review. If that isn't an indicator on how severely bad my experience was, then hopefully what follows will clarify. Upon entering the restaurant, i was greeted by a help wanted sign, specifically for cooks. If there was ever a bad omen, this was it. The waitress was not only absent throughout out meal, but quite rude in the few times she decided to make an appearance. Consistently forgetting what tables she was serving, she causally brought us salad dressings before we had received our meals only to realize she's as dumb as she looks and the dressings were not for our table. After a nearly 45 minute wait, our "delightful" waitress thought it would be a good idea to serve us toast in an attempt to make up for the long wait, though neglected to toast the bread leaving us with white bread. You read that right, our food wasn't ready so our waitress gave us white bread as what I can only believe to be the consolation prize in the carnival of hell. Luckily, we recieved our food only 30 minutes later, and just as I was about to order pizza to the restaurant, darn. My "fresh" salad was pretty obviously straight from pre-made salad mix, served on a plate for reasons only Taylor Negron may know (rip). My brothers steak was far closer to a bunless hamburger than a steak, and my father's club sandwich looked like shit. I don't know how else to describe the sandwich besides that. Please save yourself the trouble and find the closest McDonald's and eat eat whatever the previous customers left in the toilet. First visit to this little town's center square that still has lots of atmosphere. Lucy's building looks old with tin ceiling, but sometimes it's hard to tell what's original and what's not. Definitely a small town restaurant atmosphere. Waitress seemed inexperienced, but was helpful and eager to do her job. My friend and I both had the special of the day. It was a yummy pot roast with a choice of two sides. My mashed potatoes and fried okra tasted like my grandma made them. We shared a homemade buttermilk pie, and it, too, tasted fresh and homemade. I came to this fine establishment solely on the Yelp reviews. Perhaps I had might hopes inflated by the glowing commentaries. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. My order of the pulled pork sandwich (at least I thought I ordered pulled pork) was actually pulled pork and chicken mixed together. I asked the server what was the most popular type of bread the sandwich is ordered on and she replied, "Texas Toast." I'm down with the buttery grilled goodness of that - BUT, it made the sandwich impossible to pick up. The meat mixture was saucy and again a mixture. The best thing on my order were the homemade chips. We started with fried jalapenos as an appetizer and ehhh - nothing to write home about. One friend ordered the chicken fingers appetizers as a main dish and it was plenty big (enough to take home), the other companion ordered fish tacos and while she ate them, she wound up picking the fish out and just leaving the rest. The pies and cakes in the glass case up front didn't look worth the calories. The folks seated in the booth behind us spilled a glass of tea when we arrived and it wasn't wiped up until our food came. Came for lunch on Saturday. We were seated and the place seemed chaotic. No one came to wait on us - so we left. What's going on here?!?!

Our experience was so bad, I created a Yelp account just to review it. We waited ten minutes at the door for someone to seat us, even though they weren't busy. Then it took another ten minutes before we even saw our waitress (who was, at least very nice, even if we could never find her). Another fifteen minutes before she took our order, and almost an hour until we got our food. The fries were good, but the chicken fried steak and fried shrimp were the blandest we've ever had, and clearly frozen. We had to physically get up and hunt down someone to give us napkins, silverware, condiments, drink refills, and even our check, and we were there at 2 in the afternoon, when they weren't busy! TERRIBLE food and even WORSE service. We were there almost 2 hours. Awful. We will never go here again. read more
