We went to Lucy's for the first time today for lunch. The menu is great with many options. My husband got the meatloaf with green beans and onion rings. He was very happy with all of it. I ordered the chopped steak. I asked if they could cook it rare and was told they could do that. When it arrived, our very professional server asked me to cut into it. It was well done! She immediately took it back and reordered for me. The meal was very good, the beef was perfect and the potatoes were very tasty. Both the white and brown gravy were also well prepared. No biggie, although you want people to be able to wash their hands with warm water for sanitation purposes. This one may sound petty... I get it, but it's worth mentioning if you have southern messy foods and delicious desserts. You've GOT to give people napkins. The small paper towel that barely covers the utensils is not enough. We took a day trip to Celina, Texas, desperately needing a little R&R. Our adventure led us to "Lucys on the Square." We were so lucky to find this lovely restaurant. It's located inside a tiny downtown area that supports the Celina Courthouse. It's so easy to park and walk. Bonus: There's a generous amount of handicap parking. If you love that quaint hometown feeling (you only see in movies) .. you'll find it here!! The restraunt was cozy, nostalgic, laid back, and full of Christmas spirit. It's a family owned business (my favorite!), and their vibe was comfort food, including homemade pies. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, which led to us eating wayyyy more than we should have, lol. We all ordered a variety of traditional breakfast items like eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, as well as biscuits with gravy. Fresh food, made to order, cooked perfectly - delicious!!! TIP: Well worth the trip if you live anywhere within driving distance. Just outside the door, we enjoyed taking pictures with a beautiful Christmas tree and holiday decorations provided by Celina. Families were gathered to enjoy this space, pets are welcomed, and kiosk interactive games are provided (free) for children. We will certainly go back. Came here on a Sunday and it was very busy so we had to wait about 15min. No biggie though! I would rate the bathrooms an 7/10. They were clean, dimly lit (which I appreciate in a bathroom) and 2 stalls in the ladies bathroom. 2 stalls was enough for the size of the restaurant. TP and soap were stocked up. They even had a little funny sign about not flushing feminine products. I bet you could use the restroom if you weren't a paying customer because they wouldn't really know. Especially when people stand outside waiting to be seated. Chicken fried chicken with chorizo gravy was excellent! The chicken was freshly battered in house and still hot when it came to the table. The Mac n cheese and homestyle potatoes were not tasty so skip those. But the rolls were soft and delightful. My friend got the BLT and she always orders that so I know that is good here. read more

I've been coming here for virtually my entire life, and I'm about to be 23. They have the best fried mushrooms and coconut pie I've ever tasted, and I've been just about everywhere. Service depends on your server but for the most part it's amazing. I'm partial to their chicken fried chicken, and I like to pair it with their hash browns, with a couple of eggs over them. My family and I have been a couple times now and the service and food are very consistent. Kind servers, quick service solid/quality food with the understanding it's diner food. Major chain comp would be Crackerbarrel. The ambiance is small town ranch/ farm house feel. From chicken to burgers the food is solid and homey. Only bad experience was the Cajun friend chicken that just had the season caked on. Once peeling off the pre mix caking that just dried out your mouth adding no flavor nor spice the chicken it self was fantastic. There for a late lunch, a friend and I decided to get the fried green tomatoes to start, which were fine, no complaints. We chose to share a seafood platter which included two catfish strips (1 filet cut lengthwise to make 2 fish strips) and three fried shrimp. So 1 catfish fillet and three fried shrimp and an order of fried green tomatoes for $33 seems kind of steep, but whatever, it was a day out. The fish and shrimp were ok on their own. But just ok, they weren't seasoned in any way. Nothing. So, we tried the tartar sauce- it was inedible. When asked the waiter said that it had mayo, dill relish, onions, garlic powder, and tobasco. It wasn't spicy by any means but the flavor profile didn't work, not even a little bit. Waiter said that they didn't have any regular tartar sauce but did we want extra cocktail sauce? We tried that with the shrimp and believe it or not that was worse. Much more tobasco making it slightly spicy, but not much. I couldn't tell if there was horseradish or not because the tobasco completely overwhelmed it. So we're left with unseasoned fish and shrimp and noxious sauces. We thought we might order something different, but decided just to ask for the check. No concern about our experience or offer to replace our meal, no discount on our bill, nothing. It was the gift that kept on giving though as we continued to belch the noxious sauces for the rest of the day. Not much chance we'll be back. read more

Went for brunch on Saturday morning. My friend had the Sunrise Croissant and I had the Late Breakfast. Hash browns came with both and both barely hit the griddle and were blond. I substituted a biscuit for the toast and wished I hadn't. The biscuit seemed like it might have been fresh last week and would have been pitiful then. It was not even warm enough to melt butter. We also ordered a pie each to go. Got home and the coconut/pecan pie was dry. (I know. Unbelievable). My chocolate cream pie supposedly came with a graham cracker crust which was liquid. We came in one night and the owner threw a ticket at my boyfriend. He told him he walked the ticket 3 months ago. The problem is the ticket had items on it we never drink. He was so rude and unprofessional about it. It's a small town, maybe the owner should learn how much people talk in this town. He could have handled it so much better. It has accents of wagon wheels, barb wire and old soda bottles on the ceiling. They have an extensive beer and wine selection including flags of where they are from. I ordered the philly and left nothing on the plate! Not gonna lie, I saw the fries and thought they were under done but they had such great flavor!! Wow! The crew was super young like high schoolers for sure other than our server. It was cute to watch the kiddos cut up between helping tables and setting up silverware. Stick to your lunch. We decided to give it a try for Breakfast. I got eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns and a pancake. The eggs were not cooked right. The xtra crispy bacon was dripping with grease. Pancake was as late but good. Hubs got Eggs Benedict. It was basically deli meat on bread with eggs and something that resembled queso rather than hollandaise sauce. My man likes to eat and he didn't even finish his plate. We've been here for lunch and it's always been good home cooking. My recommendation is to stick with what you're good at. Let's start and end with the good and I'll cram the discomfort in the middle, okay? The servers here are friendly and helpful when ordering. My husband and son got burgers and my other son had chicken. They were fine. I had the meatloaf which was good. It was a bit of a kitchen sink meatloaf and had pieces of breadcrumbs (normal, but not normally discernible after combining and baking) and huge pieces of veggies. Not complaining, just stating facts. I liked it. I had green beans and okra with it, but the bread roll was heavenly, soft, buttery goodness. The food was good. The food getting to us took a very long time. The pleasant server kept us topped up with drinks and a cheerful attitude. But we waited and waited. Not the end of the world, except that the next time we went to Lucy's we stood at the door waiting and waiting while 3 employees were at the host stand and didn't acknowledge us at all. They appeared to be analyzing tables and getting ready for a rush. I get it, been there done that. But for THREE people to not acknowledge us (or the family ahead of us, who ultimately called out to them and sat themselves). We stood there for many minutes so it wasn't a pop-in, pop-out. We waited while two other families showed up after us, also not acknowledged. So we know what would've happened--wait forever for a table, wait forever for food. OR seat ourselves, wait for a server AND for food. I'm not a hugely impatient person. But customer service is the name of the game and acknowledgement is required. The desserts they offer are mini pies and even in all my frustrated angst, I'm missing that chocolate pecan pie. It was sugary heaven. No photos from me because I devoured it.
