On an early Monday morning, around 1am, I came in to LUCYS as I often can visiting from out of town. I was having three late night beers after a long drive in from Vegas to my favorite old home area of San Diego OCEAN BEACH!! We ordered the same thing each round "Cali creaming and bud light". Joe remembered on round 2! Awesome memory! We were paying round by round. On the third round, he can back with a tab of 3X the value of the last two tabs!!. He mentioned there was vodka shot a couple of drinks.. he knew we didn't get any of that but charged my card anyways. At some point I released he held on to my card after the second tab. I didn't think much of it but is this a SCAM they pull? No idea, but all I wanted was to get my tab fixed and go home. As I waited, the group did a last call shot with the bartender for tips! As he now wonders back a little more tipsy, he eventually starts to look up the old tabs to use as a reference to fix my tab but while working, his boyfriend was harassing me "can't pay your tab, I'll pay it". At that point, Joe screams "EVERYBODY GET THE ***** OUT!!!!" and kicks everyone out of Lucy's and on to the streets. When everyone was outside, Joe was too drunk to figure out the tab situation and asked if I could come back in the morning. What choice did I have? As they attempted to escort me out of Lucy's, i was confronted by his inebriated boyfriend who wanted to FIGHT me!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??!!! What place tries to send a customer outside to someone who wants to FIGHT!! I had to call the POLICE which sent a helicopter to make sure I was safe to get out. I heard Joe outside threatening this everyone to go home or they would have to do paperwork and could lose their license. Why drunk bartender? As stated many times that I didn't want any problems and attempted to leave peacefully. Joe was cool at first but gradually became disrespectful. Instead of settling my tab I was left while he was taking last call shot with customers at the bar. As Joe grew disrespectful as did his boyfriend. I come from a service industry in a much larger market. I'm sorry I came in tonight, a relaxing evening turned into a complete fiasco.i love this bar, but sadly this is not a safe place to enjoy a drink. I used to love coming to Lucy's in the morning for one of the rare bars grandfathered in to SD that opens early in the mornings at 6am. I no longer feel safe to back to this bar. Had your bartender not been trashed my tab would've been correct, I wouldn't have been threatened in front of the local crowd and humiliated, because Joe didn't know what we ordered vs what his friends ordered. This whole scenario is an unfortunate chain of events that made everyone look foolish. All of this for $36??? Are you *****ING kidding me????!!!!! Lucy's is the type of awesome local spot and I felt everyone knew each other, security included. They did the least amount possible to contain the situation. Imagine if it were me outside causing this drama, would I have been treated this courteously? If you decide to come here, bring friends with you to deal with the locals. Lucy's was an awesome bar where everyone used to be accepted, visitors included. The camera footage at Lucy's in Ocean Beach 92017 will tell the story. Unfortunately for Joe, he was too drunk on the job to that he knowingly added fraudulent charges on to my credit card and refused to remove them when asked. I sat there for 30 minutes waiting as I watched him shoot shots at the bar instead of handling business. When i called 3 x the following day there was no answer.That's correct, this happened in front of my fave and I have a witness. I will be pressing charges for the the false charges that were knowingly added to my tab and after the bartender refused to remove them. I'm sure Joe does this to people all of the time. ( Expect a call from my bank's fraud department) Joe, you are a mess. I hope that the owner of Lucy's releases you and you get the help you need. Lucy's was the first time I've been a bar where the employees are more intoxicated than the patrons, and the patrons were pretty drunk. As a customer, I don't understand how Joe's friends drank without receiving a tab and only tipping him for their drinks. Seems a little unfair that my friends and I were be charged full price (and tipping) To the owner of Lucy's, you should watch your cameras. Your staff is robbing you and your customers blind. The cops were called on your bar last night because all of your staff was too incoherent to understand what was going on and too drunk to be able to handle their regulars. read more

This place is cool. Has low key, divie vibes. They have three pool tables. No shuffle board that I've seen even though it says they do on google? Thats questionable. Not alot of seating but also depends what time of the day your down here especially on the weekend. All the bartenders I've gotten here overall are pretty pleasant. Place is decently clean inside but place itself is a tad run down but still a spot to hang out. What I'm not a fan of is sometimes you'll get a normal size glass depending on the bartender and other times you'll get a small glass which looks like a shot glass and all I'm saying is if am paying full price for a drink i'd like a regular glass not my drink in a shot looking glass. read more

Located in OB (Ocean Beach). If you get there early enough. Parking isn't too bad. If you go later in the day. Parking can be challenging. Timing is everything. With foosball, pool tables and TV's throughout. This bar is a nice place to hangout, play games and watch a sporting event. No food but in walking distance to restaurants and other food spots. I have never written a negative review before so bear with me. I came into Lucy's Tavern to meet some friends who live a couple streets down and are regulars there. It's an awesome dive from first impressions, three pool tables, jukebox, awesome looking happy hour, the works. After the first beer one of my friends introduced me to Bonnie who out the gate came off as just a sweet and fun bartender. I proceeded to come up to order and chat with her a few times throughout the night sharing my own experiences as a fellow bartender. We joked around about Sunday night service and in general felt like we on great terms. I want to be clear that being an active member of the industry myself I was always very patient with her honestly slow service and often chatted with other patrons and amused myself at the bar while she served other guests. Last call comes around so I roll up to what is now a more full bar. While she is pouring some drinks I ask if they do carry out case service to which she replied no. So since its last call I ask if "when she has time" if I can get a final pour and close. She absolutely snaps. She stops everything shes doing at screams at me in front of the whole bar claiming I got everything I wanted and If I was happy now. I took it silently with a mumbled thank you as she slammed the shots and check down in front of me and honestly have never felt so humiliated in my life with every eye at bar looking at me. We left quickly to say the least. I understand service industry can be incredibly stressful and I would really like to give Bonnie benefit of the doubt with what was a long hard weekend. But nobody ever ever ever! deserves to be treated like that. Wish I could take my tips back. Good luck! read more

I came into this place needing to use the restroom and the bartender was a really nice guy who let me. He made me feel welcomed inside his bar, as a younger woman, who didn't look like anyone else inside the bar (during the middle of a week day). This is definitely a bar I would come back to, because the bartender was so kind. I didn't feel out of place, which I have in many other bars. Ambled into Lucy's Tavern in Ocean Beach yesterday evening for libations, billiards and seasonal good cheer. The joint was popping with a friendly warm vibe. Lucy's is a hometown locals bar. I stopped in while waiting for my partner to get her nails done at the salon next door, and sat down at the bar. It was apparent very quickly that the bartender knew almost everyone at the bar and was conversing with them as if they were there quite often. The prices were good and there were a couple of pool tables in the back. Not a huge selection of beers but I'm sure they stock what their regulars drink. The sommelier provided us with a wide breadth of local Southern California wines to enjoy on a glorious Saturday evening. As we watched a drunk stumble in then be escorted out by the security team, we socialized with neighbors and friends and nibbled on popcorn and bagged peanuts, and Cheetos to whet our palates for the tasting. We were poured hefty amounts to sample! The Woodbridge had a smoky afterbirth and rich, hedonistic tones. Since moving to OB, I do enjoy going to Lucy's frequently. Sabrina the bartender ended up being my new friend here in town and the other bartenders are friendly, fast and personable too. It's a bar's bar, (or a bartenders bar) come for a drink and some conversation. It's not a bunch of frat kids and it's not a sleepy hollow, it's just right for an afternoon drink or a late nightcap.
