Every time I come here it gets worse and worse, and it's really sad because the service AND food used to be wonderful for a dive bar. There's like 1 or 2 people that are still here from the old group but the new people they have hired leave much to be desired. I guess one of the waitresses was training someone because her and another male waited on us together. The guys was cool, the girl, not so much. No big deal, but how thirsty and obvious can you be? My boyfriend was the one who actually noticed it and commented on it first and then I paid attention. Not to mention it's rude to the female patron to flirt with her date in her face. The reason I know it's flirting because she NEVER addressed ME when she asked did we need anything, totally turned her back to me while talking to him, and kept giggling like a goofball. Whatever, I don't even care about that. What I care about is what happened last night because although I've said it before, last night was the FINAL straw. I ordered a Philly to-go and asked for no peppers or onions and to SUBSTITUTE (not add) mushrooms. I told the girl that answered the phone to make sure they didn't charge me $2.00 for the mushrooms like they did last time (mind you I called to report this to the manager MONTHS ago but I guess it wasn't important to her because she never called me back) and the girl proceeded to ARGUE with me about the mushrooms. Like what? I could see you charging me if it was indeed an ADDITION to the veggies that were ALREADY on the sandwich, but you're LITERALLY subbing one for the other. You're not ADDING anything. It's the audacity to argue with me about some mushrooms, ESPECIALLY when I've been coming here for so long. Better watch it High Dive before you end up like tons of other restaurants across the city who have had to close their doors after decades of being in business. You see how the 94th Aero Squadron just closed recently after almost 30 years. Bad attitudes, bad customer service, and overpriced food will do that to even the best of 'em. It was a hot day, and they brought out fresh water with ice for the dogs without me even having to ask. That alone won me over. There's a solid menu of American food like burgers, melts, and chicken teddies, plus a good brunch menu on weekends! I got the spicy Reed burger which has a "jalapeño popper patty" on top of the beef patty - guys, it's a deep fried jalapeño and cream cheese mixture... it was amazing! it added a bit of crunch, cream, and spice. I think this is a 2 star place. It's not my jam. But from what I thought I was gonna see to what I experienced. I'm okay giving it a 3 star. This place is kinda in the middle of nowhere. Had the Chicago Spicy Beef (which isn't spicy at all). Buffalo wings. Gorgonzola burger. Onion rings. Loaded fries. And of course beer! The Gorgonzola burger was the best thing I had by far. I love wings and the moment I got it, I knew I was going to be disappointed. It would probably be good for those who aren't picky with their wings / have a high standard. The fries were decent. I had the Eppig 10:45 which was meh and the White Dog IPA which was delicious. I hate IPAs but this one was the best one I've had by far. I honestly think if the staff wasn't friendly then it would have been a 1 maybe 2 star place. I'm giving this place a 3 star because they were so nice and the burger was delish. This is in regards to the burger specifically. I've been coming here for years, and the burgers used to be the thing I looked forward to the most. A messy, juicy, flavorful, and a little chaotic in the best possible way. They were the kind of burgers you needed extra napkins for, and that was part of the charm. Recently though (actually for quite some time now) something has changed. The patties now feel more like pre-made, dense meatloaf bricks rather than the fresh, loose, flavorful burgers they used to serve. On top of that, the new patty is actually over seasoned and it ends up overwhelming the whole bite instead of enhancing it. The experience just isn't the same, and it's a noticeable shift from what made their burgers so great. I'm not writing this out of frustration. This has been one of my favorite spots for a long time. I'm sharing this in hopes it reaches the owners or kitchen team. The old burgers were special, and I'd love to see them reevaluate whatever changes were made.
