    Lemon Meringue Ice Cream Pie

We're lucky to live a couple miles from here. Spontaneous quick dinner with my wife. Sat in the bar area of Marshalton Inn, tended to by Cathy, a very nice, attentive, friendly bartender with great recommendations. My wife and I shared a couple drinks, the very good crab nachos, and went straight to dessert: the fabulous lemon meringue ice cream pie. Lovely visit. Dark, romantic, moody atmosphere.

Had a New Years Eve dinner that went beyond horrific. The chicken was way over cooked and placed on some green slop that was inedible.

The…read morerestaurant offers pre set dinners (four courses for $85), with a menu that changes every week, inspired by the season and the bounty of Pennsylvania produce. The restaurant is beautiful and still very comfortable. And the service was outstanding. They brought me a little stool for my purse, which is such a nice touch. And they were so helpful and friendly as they stopped by our table to explain each course on the night's menu. I also really enjoyed my wine, and my husband his cocktail. While the experience was lovely, I was underwhelmed by the meal unfortunately. They brought us a little starter (off menu) - a fritter with duck confit, which had good flavor but an odd texture. The first course was turnips and squid, which was okay (I didn't get the squid on the dish - it didn't have much flavor or do much for the dish). The second course was Pizzoccheri - a pasta dish made of hearty, dark buckwheat pasta with boiled potatoes, Savoy cabbage, melted cheese, and butter. It was delicious and rich and great for winter (it snowed later that night - the first of the season). I was glad they served a single portion for two people - because it is rich. But I'd eat it again for sure, my favorite dish of the night by far. The third course was a strip loin with salsify and leek cream. This dish was pretty good, too. I loved the salsify - I'd never had it before. And the jus was delicious. I didn't love the cook on the strip loin - it was medium rare on one end and over medium on the other. The dessert was a profiterole with candied quince and cherry. It was too sweet for me, and I didn't taste much of the quince or cherry. The dish I'd want to eat again is the Pizzoccheri, for sure. It was a lovely meal - the restaurant has a great ambiance and the service was wonderful. I didn't love the food on this first visit, but their menu is creative and it's very possible that on another night it would blow me away. I do love a set menu/tasting menu at this price point and with only four courses - a great value, and a great portion of food (not too much like some tasting menus). It's beautiful spot in West Chester; I'd be happy to try it again if I'm in West Chester for dinner again.

Kassie was wonderful to work with during the planning process. She was incredibly accommodating and helped coordinate every detail, from the room set up and decorations to having appetizers ready for our guests upon arrival. Her flexibility and attention to detail made the entire process easy and stress-free. On the day of the event, Shannon was our on-site contact and was equally impressive. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the evening. We didn't even have to do clean-up from our decorating! They told us to take what we wanted and they handled the rest! That in itself was a big PLUS! One of the things our guests appreciated most was that King's Tavern allowed everyone to order from the full menu at the time of the event. Whether guests wanted a salad, burger, steak, or crabcake dinner, everyone was able to choose exactly what they wanted. The food was outstanding, and the quality exceeded our expectations. The private dining area was lovely, providing the perfect atmosphere for our gathering. We were also pleasantly surprised by how reasonably priced the event was considering the excellent food, service, and accommodations. I'm well known among my family and friends as having high expectations and not being easy to please - but King's Tavern rose to the occasion and impressed me in every aspect. I would highly recommend King's Tavern for private events and celebrations. We would absolutely host another event there and look forward to returning as regular dinner guests as well.

We couldn't limit our picks and started with the Grilled Kennett Square mushrooms, Camembert with carrot caramel foam, and the chilled pea soup with mint. We also ordered the Nashville hot catfish and curry soft shell crab. The caramel foam was delicious and paired perfectly with the cheese and bread. The pea soup was refreshing and harmonized well. The mushrooms were simply delightful. The catfish was cooked extremely well, with the crust (with a corn meal crust?) remaining crunchy and the fish juicy, with the seasonings on point and spicy. The curry soft shelled crab was the winner among many winning choices and was perfect. We couldn't stop raving about it. We enjoyed it so much, we overindulged and ordered the lamb. The meat was exceptionally soft, even for rack of lamb. Unable to resist the dessert menu, we finished with the rhubarb sorbet with basil water and granola. My wife is not a fan of rhubarb or basil, but also loved the dessert and its balance and uniqueness. The service was excellent and attentive, and the restaurant is very cute and cozy. My wife has worked in restaurants for years and we were both thoroughly impressed by the execution and care for all the items we ordered. It's one thing to have a creative and unique menu, it's another thing entirely to have that level of execution for it. Thank you!
