This was my first time patronizing Luen Hop in Cromwell. I was passing through the area on my way home from southern Connecticut, and decided to pick up some dinner. I'm very picky about my Chinese food; freshness is my number one make-or-break factor. I don't normally write reviews, but I really wanted to share my experience. It was a typical take out type place...no frills. The staff was very friendly. I had ordered chicken with broccoli from the "health diet" area of the menu. I was skeptical as I hadn't eaten here before. The food was wonderful. The chicken was very tender, the broccoli was al dente, the rice was fluffy and the egg roll was perfectly cooked. Tried this place on a whim as I was driving around looking for take out of some sort. I enjoy chinese food and since I was on business travel I thought I would give this place a try. Ordered the mongolian chicken, hot and sour soup and 2 pork egg rools for around $13. The egg rolls were good, but needed chili sauce. Maybe all egg rolls do and my standards for egg rolls are middle of the road. The hot and sour soup was just so-so and not spicey as the little chile suggested. More watery than I like, but filled with stuff. The mongolian chicken had way more yellow oninion then chicken and was just middle of the road. It was a bit sparse on variety of stuff but the quantity was huge. The entire meal could have easily fed two. I've had better and wouldn't go back. Not that I won't be in Cromwell again in the future, but I'm sure there are better chinese takeout restaurants than this one in the area. There have to be because if this is the best in town . . . This isn't only the best Chinese you'll find in Cromwell, it's probably among the best Chinese food you'll ever have, anywhere. While not a sit-in establishment, Luen Hop excels at making delicious Chinese food by hand; it's not just shipped in by truck and re-heated. The pork-fried rice, the lo mein, the crispy chicken, the crab rangoon, the beef teriyaki, wanton soup, egg rolls, shrimp and broccoli, chicken fingers and chicken wings (need I go on?) are the best I've eaten at any Chinese eatery anywhere in the United States. That's saying a lot for a Chinese food take-out place, but it certainly delivers on this promise. The people there are very nice, too. You can tell a family runs this business and cares about it. Their culinary skills are well plied and their ingredients are fresh. Sometimes it's fun just coming in a little early to watch them make the food; they're always busy for a reason. Any time we are driving through Cromwell we stop in.. It is the best take out in the area... Has been hard finding good Chinese since moving from Chicago. Good Egg rolls, Great General Tso chicken, Shrimp and Broccoli is yummy too. read more

We stopped here on our way to Delaware and then when we came back and the food is outstanding!!! The first time we ordered Szechuan Chicken and it was delicious!! Coming back we ordered a small Chicken with Mushrooms and it too was delicious and the portion almost seemed like a large one. The food and prices are fantastic. We ate both times in the restaurant. Good, fresh food! The wonton wrappers on the wonton soup aren't too thick. Boneless spare ribs are juicy and not over cooked along with any other meats they cook. Its never dry or greasy. read more

This past friday 2/6/2016 my two roommates and I ordered three orders of food from Luen Hop in Cromwell. I had the chicken with broccoli, and my two roommates had the general tso's chicken. Me and one of my roommate got the worst food poisoning of our lives from these meals. We've spent more time in the bathroom the past three days then our own beds. I called Luen Hop Saturday morning at 10:55am and talked to the "boss" who spoke barely any English. I tried to explain to her that me and roommate got very ill from her food. She told me she would repay the cost of the food; which is whatever to me. Six dollars doesn't compensate for the stomach issues I've dealt with for three days now. I was gonna leave it at this; I understand food poisoning happens, but what happened this afternoon drove me to absolute madness. My third roommate who didnt get sick, went to collect the money this afternoon during his lunch break, and was told that we got sick from something else (impossible my and my roommate didnt eat the same food in the last week). Apparently because I didn't go to the hospital and didn't get a note stating I had food poisoning; I wasn't sick. I high suggest avoiding this place. read more

I had higher expectations from this place. I ordered chicken chow mein and General Tso's chicken yesterday, both with pork fried rice. The General Tso's was up to speed, it had the right amount of sweetness and crispiness that makes this dish unique. The rice, however, was tasteless. Almost as if there was no egg in it, or seasoning. The chicken chow mein was also rather bland. I asked for both dishes to be made extra spicy, and they weren't spicy at all. That request seemed to fall on deaf ears. My total was a little over 15 dollars, and the cashier owed me about 5 cents but didn't even give it to me. I didn't fuss over that, but still, be a professional and give me my change. Most disturbingly was the fact that the man who was the cashier, who took my 15 dollars from me, then started preparing/handling the food. I'm not really a huge stickler about these things but this right here was a violation of Food Hygiene 101. The person handling the money should not handle the food, unless he washes his hands first. He did not such thing. This makes me worry about what they are doing when no one is looking. The final kicker was they have a sign saying that if you spend 15 dollars or more, you get 5 free wantons. He didn't give them to me. When I asked him for them, he looked quite annoyed and gave me some major 'tude. Once he gave them to me, I felt as if I owed him something for the trouble. Not coming back here again. Think I will stick with Wangs in the future. read more
