Boneless spare rib lunch plate

Luen Hop has the best tasting Chinese food that I've found in the Cromwell area. It's a small place in the old Blockbuster plaza but I've found that while going for the last 15 years and with changes in ownership, the flavor and freshness of the food has remained generally consistent. My favorites are the bone-in spare ribs and chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce. It's been a while since I've frequented the saucier popular options like general Tso's and sesame but I remember those being good in the past. They also make good rice. This isn't your white table cloth, gourmet Chinese place but nothing beats dependability for weeknight takeout.

This is a standard Chinese restaurant in every way. There is a big faded overhead menu with pictures of food that no one ever looks at and the long paper menus people use a pencil to circle what they want. The tables are wobbly, none of the tables or chairs match, there are boxes stacked on the floor in random places, all things we expect at a take out Chinese restaurant. My middle daughter and I came in for lunch and put in an order for a general tso combination platter and boneless spare ribs. The food was exactly what we would expect. General tso was crispy with steamed broccoli, ribs were sweet, rice was fluffy and flavorful, and the egg roll was cooked perfectly. Nothing was over cooked, under cooked, overly greasy, or bland. We were very happy that the food was made the way we expected it to be. The service was very friendly and the family who runs the restaurant is extremely nice. This is a great place to pick up well cooked Chinese food when cooking at home isn't an option but I suggest bringing your food home if the atmosphere is going to be an issue.

I've literally eaten here over 50 times. Always good. A step above the typical Chinese take-out joint

Great Wall is our go to Chinese place in Middletown. They are so nice and their food is great!…read more Our usual go to items are some combination of the following: sesame chicken (ask for it extra spicy!), pork lo mein, pan fried dumplings, fried wontons, bbq spare ribs, sweet and sour chicken, and garlic chicken. And of course, egg rolls! The spare ribs can be hit or miss if you get good pieces or fatty pieces. The sesame chicken is my absolute favorite, it's always crispy and the sauce is always good...hit or miss how spicy they get it, but I do love it when it's very spicy!! My husband loves to get the bbq rib and chicken fingers combo (chicken fingers are basically the same as sweet and sour chicken). Pro tip: If you order this, they don't automatically give you the red sweet and sour sauce for the chicken, so be sure to ask for the sauce when placing your order! I can't speak to the other items on the menu, as we usually get 2-3 of our favorites whenever we go. But the food is always fresh and hot, and they're very accommodating of special requests. I see now that they have online ordering, but we haven't tried it yet. This is definitely the best Chinese food in Middletown!

Pint of chicken chow mein. Flavorless and veggies were cut too large. Would never order this again.

S4. Orange chicken. This is in the chef special section so it only comes in large size. Crispy chicken, broccoli under it. A little spicy.

Pint of shrimp with snow peas. Shrimp seemed to have some sort of coating. Was in brown sauce which was odd. Good mix of veggies though.
