One of the better wine-bars in the area. Ok, thats not saying much, perhaps I should say "a good wine bar" (the quality of pubs in this part of CT is ... lacking). The happy-hour is *really* good - inexpensive wines, and an excellent selection of tapas-y things to nosh on. The bar area is generous, and gets decently filled up, making for excellent chance encounters - an excellent way to whittle away at an evening The food - can't say much about it. Our first time there. I t was a Tuesday night and it was packed. It was very loud, we had to shout to people across the table. Considering how busy it was, the service was attentive. I really want to love this place, so I'll probably keep coming back until I do or don't :) I've now been here 4 or 5 times, for dinner, brunch, and happy hour drinks. I had a nice dinner experience, sitting at the bar. The meatballs were great, I enjoyed the wine selection, and the service was really good. Brunch was really good as well, although the bottomless mimosas were really hard to get refills on and were really heavy on the orange juice (they were busy, but that probably needs to be solved for). I love that there's some outdoor seating in the warmer weather, although I wish there was more of it or it was set up a little differently. It seems great for large groups but awkward if you're there along or in a smaller group (having to climb over other people to find a seat). I was all but ignored at the bar one time, and although the bartender seemed nice enough when he did interact with me I ended up having to order from someone else while he greeted many of the other customers by name and served them promptly. It felt really strange, because it wasn't that busy. The happy hour is really generous, although a few of the tapas were good but not great (the goat cheese/honey bruschetta and the mussels fra diavolo). I am a huge fan of the baked lobster tail tapa (not on the happy hour special, but worth ordering). The acoustics are strange. Even when it's not packed it feels really loud and cacophonous. I like the wine selection, I want to try more of the food, the meatballs are delish, and there really aren't a lot of good wine bars around the Stamford area, so I will keep coming back and hope it keeps getting even better! read more

Great all around - delicious food that is fresh and real and flavorful. The seasoning and salt amount is exact, I mean perfect, and I almost never find that. The menu is quite good, including the brunch -- offering many tapas as shared items, as well as solid stand alone entrees! Everything from the kale salad, to the seafood, and veggies, to the coffee is delicious. Paired with a lovely, spacious ambiance, and kind service - it is a pleasure to dine in this restaurant. The fun Italian tapas at Luganos is a reason to go for a girls night, a business dinner or lunch or date night after yoga. It's always on the list. I cannot stay away from the eggplant parmigiana, meatballs and scallops. The vibe is full of energy and up beat and the hostess, Rose, is beyond charming and so good at helping with any accommodations for acoustics and where we want to sit. Just left this restaurant and can't tell you how disappointed I was with the service. The waiter made us feel like we were putting him out. Never introduced himself. Never brought bread to the table even after asking for it. To top it off I sat with my glass empty through half the dinner. Was he doing me a favor waiting on me? Isn't that his job. We celebrated a retirement party here recently and I was pleasantly surprised on how it turned out! It wasn't a big party, probably just under 25 people and we were in a semi private room with a fireplace. The seating was arranged in a "U" shape so that everybody can see each other. The staff was very attentive and helpful and the menu selection was good for the price. I just wish that they had an option of including a drink with the pricing- only because separate tabs were not available per person. This wasn't an issue for me, but it was, for some of the people I was with. The food was good for a lunch pre-fix menu. Once everybody was seated, they started with some bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil dip. They also took our orders. We get an appetizer, pasta and an entree. I had the brussel sprouts which was way too sweet for my liking. I still enjoyed it though. The penne was okay and the steak was good. I asked for my steak to be medium well but came it out well done. This also included dessert and coffee. I will definitely recommend this place because of the good food, great price and excellent service!! read more

When we arrived parking was easy and plentiful. We walked in and were greeted, and seated at a nice round booth, which was close to the open back doors with a unique and early pretty view of the side of the hill (pretty rocks basically). It was happy hour time.. but we didn't know it at the time because they never told us. The wine was great. Our waiter suggested a Pinot Noir off the list, it was around $40 a bottle, and it was delicious, so we had two. Being three of us, we decided to share a bunch of plates so we could try a lot of stuff. The burrata was delish, but I do wish it came with tomatoes and a small frisée salad or something. We had the butternut squash gnocchi which was very good. The "ceviche" we did not like at all - it was like gazpacho full of shrimp... ceviche is meant to be fresh, lime base, not tomato, yuck, we didn't eat it. The bruschetta was very good, but small, so order two. The Brussels sprouts were okay, (a little overcooked and too sweet). We ordered the chicken piccata off the specials meals list and it was delicious. (They accidentally brought us the wrong chicken first, but apologized and fixed it immediately.) A man at a table next to us ordered a burger and fries which looked heavenly, so we also ordered some fries.. they were great. For dessert we had the tiramisu, which was good. The service was not good.. I should not have left so much in tip. They kept trying to clear the table, but I kept telling them we wanted to order more food but the waiter hadn't come by.. though I appreciate she was doing her job, that should have been a clear hint to get the waiter. On the third time they came to clear the table I actually had to tell the person that kept trying to take our plates to go get the waiter.. and then another time I had to get up to go get the waiter myself so that we could order dessert and get the check. ..Lets hope they were short on waiters this day. read more

We had high hopes for Lugano. Had been meaning to check it out for years. We were disappointed. Gaps in service, and food that was just not special were key factors. When offered bread, specifically requested both butter and olive oil. Mediocre bread was delivered with cold wrapped butter patties. Asked a server preparing table next to us for oil, still nothing. Finally asked a different server and was delivered. Food was OK but nothing that would bring us back. One bright spot was Jorge who was not our waiter, but at several points helped fill in gaps in service. read more

Came here on a Sunday for a late brunch. There was a baby shower going on as well as smaller parties trying to dine. It was loud and chaotic. Food took a solid half an hour to come. We had roasted Brussels sprouts which were tasty albeit a bit greasy; Lobster Benedict -- room temperature and egg not runny; shrimp and grits -- basically cold and had to be sent back to be warmed up but was still underwhelming. Been to Lugano a bunch of times. Before Covid it was extremely good. Went last night was so disappointed!!! Ordered the "deboned" Bronzino. Came to the table a whole fish. I then asked them to the bone it,they came back with the head and a tail chopped off and told me that the whole thing was debone. I opened it up and the entire fish was full of bones. When I told the waitress, she told me no the whole thing was the bone and refuse to take it off the check. I ordered a pasta dish which was also not good. The waitress also brought our check and very sneaky, grab the itemize part of it so that we couldn't see it. I thought the whole thing was a little odd that you would give us a check with out seeing how much we were charged for everything. Needless to say we didn't complain, but we will not go back. This is the second time I ordered delivery, the first August 2019. The second time time today for my birthday. I ordered the lamb chops on both occasions , the first time I wanted them medium rare rare. Guess what they were medium to well done. I never complained that time. Today I ordered again ( benefit of the doubt.) I even called to specify how l like them, Guess what today they were worse than the first time! I'm so pissed with the shear incompetence. Really wonderful local place. There are lots of regulars for a good reason. Recommend their tapas over main dishes. We love variety so tapas are our go to. Mains are large and usually well executed. Great for those who are looking for a big meal over multiple little bites. Ambiance and service are impeccable. Great for a date night but make a reservation for weekends! Great food, great ambience and amazing service. We were full with just appetizers...we went overboard with options. We got lamb polenta which was our least favorite. We got Mediterranean bruschetta which was amazing and spot on in flavors...we got french fries which were out of the world...thin n crispy. We got baked lobster which was great. We also got mac n cheese which was ok. They have 50% discount on wine bottles on Sunday night so we ended up getting a bottle of Justine red wine. First time here tonight! First thing I noticed, the ambience is casual yet CLASSY! Super beautiful. Great for a celebratory dinner with family / friends and or a romantic date night. We started with fried calamari, beans, truffle mac & cheese, and my family fried the trio sampler of meatballs. The calamari was crispy & fresh! The beans were soft & baked perfectly. The truffle mac & cheese was RICH & packed with flavor, It was cavatelli & the melted parm on top was INSANE! My family also thoroughly enjoyed the meatballs. For my entree, I got the Linguini Carbonara without the pancetta. To let you know ahead of time, they cook their pasta dishes al dente. I personally am not crazy about al dente but it was still really delicious. The soft was so creamy & flavorful. The mushrooms were soft & the egg was cooked to perfection! Thank you to Rose for making the evening extra special & treating us to dessert! We got the cannoli & she chose the creme brûlée cheesecake! The cannoli was an amazing cannoli & the creme brûlée cheesecake was so unique & probably the best cheesecake I've ever had. Lugano's is very deserving of a five star review in my opinion. I came in on a date for dinner and drinks. At first we were sat at a small table by the window, alongside a very loud large group. As soon as the waitress came to us she apologized and moved us to a boothe without us even asking (much appreciated). When you sit down they serve bread and oil, which was very good. The oil had just a touch of heat which I enjoyed. For appetizers we ordered crab cakes and tuna tar tar. Both tasted extremely fresh. Crab cakes were full of crab, and the tuna tar tar was large enough to share. My main course was Lobster Fettuccine with asparagus. This was delicious - packed with lobster chunks, not overly sauced, and a perfect size. My date ordered a shrimp and scallops dish. Scallops were very large, cooked well and not cut in half like a lot of places tend to do. We were full, and opted to skip desert but the menu had something for everyone. Decor was nice, bathrooms were clean and overall we had a great experience here. I absolutely plan on returning to Lugano's in the future! read more

Been here many times after work for drinks and it's fine ( although bar stools can't move) so decided to try dinner Thursday evening . Never again. It's LOUD, DARK and you are yelling across the table to each other. Our food was good. Service not so. Water glasses never filled (one non-liquor drinker), took our forks after appetizers, brought our meals but no new forks. We asked twice, so he grabbed napkin rolls from another table.
