How in the world have I not reviews Luigi's?!? First of all, if you don't like long waits and crowded areas this spot is not for you. If you can handle all of that, the food won't disappoint. I wouldn't say it's the absolute best, but it's good for Bakersfield and the price. Portion sizes are large. I haven't tasted a bland dish from here and my food has always came out hot. A dish you can't go wrong with and one that I would say is everyone in Bakersfield's favorite is the Truffle Sacchetti. My mouth waters just thinking about it. If you've read any of my other reviews you'd know I'm a fan of pastrami sandwiches. Luigi's is fine. Very filling because the bread they use is so thick. Who doesn't love bread though? read more

This place is a local favorite! Since they are open only a couple of hours of the day it's mainly filled with business men and women! A great place to socialize. Moscule mules are great but the food is better!!! Fridays and Saturdays are the only days they sell steak. Everyday they have a different special. It's a little pricey but it's totally worth it. I barely tried their famous butterfinger pie and let me tell you, it's out of this world!!! Save some room in your tummy for that! read more

Talk about a diamond in the rough! I've been visiting this Bakersfield institution for years and my parents have been coming here for decades! The walls are covered in old black and white photos and newspapers celebrating local sports from the 1920s on to modern times. I usually get the pastrami sandwich. The pastrami is moist and tender and Luigi's definitely does not skimp on the meat! Although the meat isn't at the same level of Katz's Delicatessen, it's still pretty damn good. It comes served on a hard French roll that is baked at Pyrenees Bakery (a local establishment). The roll is pretty tough to munch on, so I suggest letting the waitress know that you would like a soft roll. Luigi's has a small bar on the side that is usually packed with regulars and it makes for a great place to enjoy a beer while waiting to be seated. read more

It's back and better than ever! Used to be a regular here but have drifted to Masullo, Federalist and OneSpeed. But heard that The Shack folks bought it. Tried it out and damn it's as good as I remembered. They didn't mess with the recipes at all. Tasty crust. They still cut the pizza into small slices. And the good news is that they have much better local beers. Service was terrific and chatty. Knocking off a star only because our bill was wrong and it took forever to fix but they gave us a free pizza for waiting so all is good. Nice job folks with the remodel! read more

So I'll start by saying I definitely am not a Bakersfield native, so save the stone throwing and nay saying for someone else because I did NOT know Luigis existed, let alone how AMAZING this place is. I went with two friends who insisted we eat outside in the back patio. In preparation, I was told what to order as they were practically regulars and I wholeheartedly obliged. Making my way towards the back patio I realized the place gets PACKED so be prepared to wait OR show up super early... I also learned that they have a fabulous bar. The best drink? Their coveted Moscow mule. Phenomenal! The best food dish I've had (so far) was the steak and truffles that I ordered. My dish also came with a side of bread and meat/cheese. It was absolutely delicious. My steak was cooked to perfection and the drinks had a kick! Our server was equally awesome and I enjoyed the entire experience. My friend & I occasionally show up on Tuesdays to Luigi's. She'll run in the deli, tell them her order, & pick it up after lunch. The main reason it's on Tuesday, is because of the Prime Rib sandwich. We start our meal with the Giovanna's Gourmet Salad. Mixed baby greens, candied walnuts and pecans, blue cheese & a balsamic vinagarette. Then onto the Prime Rib sandwich, where they don't skimp on the meat, nor the horseradish. They serve it with a small bowl of Au jus. That & a never empty glass of soda, you can stuff yourself silly. Nine times out of ten, with the salad eaten, half the sandwich goes home, and they go all out & provide fresh Au jus to take home. The decor is classic but not old. It's real easy to find a photo or newspaper article written decades before you were born. The staff is always on the ball. I believe some, of not most of them are of the Luigi family. It's nice to see the next generation hand out menus during the summer months, since their out of school. It looks like Luigi's ain't going anywhere for awhile, even though we humorously beg for a Southwest Bakersfield expansion. Pro-tip: Get there early. Parking can become an issue. Street parking north & east of bldg. A small lot east of them, can get tight in there. There is some handicap parking right behind them. South side. Else, it's a hunting game for a parking spot. read more

Worth the drive from Los Angeles. OK, we were here to see our son for an early Father's Day lunch as were lots of other people on Saturday. Waited about 40 minutes for a table, but had a cocktail and people watched. I hadn't been in years, used to go with my Dad. Same great food, even better than I remembered. We had grilled onions on toast, don't miss this hit, blue cheese and tongue. That was my lunch which I shared. Son had truffle pasta, beyond good and hubby treated himself to a Luigi sammie with a side of rigatoni bolognese and a beer. Topped it all off with a shared slice of Butterfinger ice cream pie. I came here with a friend and it was ok. Server was nice. I came on Friday but remembered I had ordered the salmon before from here and it was absolutely amazing but I believe it was from the Thursday special. I asked the waitress if they still had salmon and she double checKed and let me know they did in fact have salmon that day. I ordered the salmon with cheese ravioli with white sauce. I got my salmon and was a bit caught off guard because I have not had salmon presented to me like that before. I began eating the salmon and it was ok but once I got towards the middle is was way too under cooked for me. Plus there was a lot of bones in it. The ravioli was good. Once the waitress came to check on us I let her know and she told me that is typically how it is prepared. Even though I got the salmon before I did not say anything but I didn't like it, and it seemed raw with too many bones. She asked if I wanted anything else, I told her no it was fine I'll pay for the raviolis but wasn't comfortable paying for the salmon . My family of 4 checked into Luigis at 11am on Saturday Feb 6th. We did not think of making a reservation. The hostess Liz was awesome, at first she said 1hr wait then came back and let us know a reservation didn't show up so we could have a table inside. So awesome! It's so busy, loud and so much going on our 82 yo Mom couldn't hear a thing. But our waitress was so attentive and helped me with my Keto diet choices. Food took awhile but it was GOOD! During our lunch Liz came by to check on us even made a trip next door for a to go item! She was the best!! We will return but we will make a reservation! read more

The eatery opens daily for lunch and lunch only , serving from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The Cocktail Bar stays open until 4:00pm. The menu is large, with daily menu specials and yes off menu Chef specials. My mother suggested we stop here for lunch on her last day living in Bakersfield, boy am I glad she did. First of all the place is PACKED when you walk in-if that doesn't scream "this food is amazing!" then I don't know what does. My mother ordered the ravioli and truffle sachitorri? (I butchered the name I'm sorry y'all) with brown butter sage sauce, y'all it was so good we had to go next door and buy some from the deli next door to enjoy at home. The food is good here but, maybe not good enough for the amount of waiting I've had to experience everytime I've been here. For example, went in yesterday and our total time was 2 hours for wait on being seated, our order (2 tri'tip sandwiches), and our bill. It's a great place on the outside and inside. Definitely cool to be able to eat in one of the oldest restaurants in Bakersfield. The staff is always great. Also, I am in love with the little store they have next door. I went to Luigi's this morning to get items from the deli to build a charcuterie board for a small get together tonight. As I pulled up, I saw a line wrapped around the corner to get in and almost left but realized it was for the restaurant and not the store so I parked and headed in. As I am walking up I see a lady that was in line go in the store side then walk back out and proceeds to tell her party of people to "come inside the store and see what they have over here" I thought that was weird but whatever right? No! They all pretended to look at stuff for a couple minutes until whoever that lady knew let them all in a door from the deli into the restaurant and CUT IN FRONT OF THE REST OF THE LINE. I visited this WONDERFUL place for the first time this past Wednesday. The food was absolutely exceptional! The filet was perfect and the pasta was down right amazing!!! The service can't be beat.
