Wow, I was shocked to see a reviewer say the employees are "sharp". I have been a frequent customer here for almost two years. While the staff has changed a lot, they are always courteous, friendly and warm. The bagels might not be the best bagel you've ever eaten in NYC, but it is the best in the area. And, I have never ever eaten food that appeared to have been made in a rushed manor. My bagel's are consistently perfectly prepared, and I am fairly picky. I love this place. The place itself is super cute and nice location. However, I've been here on three separate occasions, and every time.. one thought: NEEDS MORE CREAM CHEESE. It's to the point where once I sit down to eat my bagel, I'm pissed off that I got a bagel. After my first terrible experience with Liliana American Cuisine I decided to order from here. To begin the staff and my delivery guy were super sweet. I had the turkey and cheese bagel, the hot chocolate, chocolate chip cookies and chips. My delivery was on time and my hot chocolate and bagel was still hot. My only complaint is that the bagel was too charred for my liking and left a semi-bitter taste. Other than that I recommend the hot chocolate and those cookies. The cookies are thin and crisp. I went to get a bagel here a little before 5 and they had run out of bagels. They had also run out of whatever kinds of fresh-baked bread their menu says are used in many of their sandwiches, leaving store-bought 7-grain loaf. I got what I think was their #6; it's on 7-grain with avocado, egg, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. It took over 10 minutes for me to get the sandwich, even though the shop was empty and there were two people behind the counter. I also assumed it was like a breakfast sandwich with scrambled egg, but it was sliced hard-boiled egg which was disappointing. The avocado was stringy and not so fresh, and was overall not worth the $7--especially with many cheaper sandwich options in Crown Heights. read more

This place is slowly becoming one of those pillar places to eat in the neighborhood that they now mention in apartment rental listings: "Rent this spacious three square foot studio on nostrand ave for the bargain price of two thousand dollars a month, first four months, a months deposit and a kidney required for viewing. Two minutes walk to Lula Bagel, four minutes to the 3 train". The food is really banging though! Fresh bagels and breads, good filling selection, the lunch specials are delicious... good teas and coffees... this place is really a treat but don't attempt it on weekends during brunch hours- the line is out of the door! This was one of the worst experiences ever. It's located in a predominantly African American neighborhood, yet we are the ones looked down on. Three people before me ordered and paid for their food with no issues. I went in to order my sandwich, I was offered "hot sauce" (I guess all African Americans like that??!)?and when taking my cash, she had 4 people verify my bill. FOUR. They put my food on the grill and completely forgot it, so when I stepped back up to the counter, the hostess jumped and ran to the grill. Realized after that my food was completely burnt. I only gave a star because there wasn't an option to give NONE. I will never be supporting such a discriminating, disrespectful business. I'll stink to Dunkin donuts. Got the number 2 which was lox with dill, capers, cream cheese and a soy chai latte. The bagel was so delicious and filling. I couldn't finish it and ended up taking half of it home. Kudos to Lula bagel for being one of the few places open through a mid march snowstorm. A friend and I were at the peak of our cabin fever and decided to venture out. It's a small inviting shop with just a few chairs. Not sure what it would be like on a typical day but it was easy to find a seat on this day. I decided to get a hot chocolate and it hit the spot. The service was friendly as well. The guy at the next table looked like he'd been there for a while. The only downfall was that we arrived around 530 not realizing that they close at 6 Pm, so just keep in mind that this is a daytime only type of place. read more

have always enjoyed Lula Bagel, but wanted to give a shout out about Lula Chicken. the meat is delicious and fresh, the rub is very good and it was opening night so I totally get that you'll continue to deepen it. Loved the very intricate detail to the spices in the coleslaw. Nice touch of rosemary -- the depth to the vinegar is spot on. That cornbread will become addictive -- I think of it as the dessert with the meal. The roast potatoes are rich in flavor and perfectly cooked. Delicious meal, will be back for more and the decor already indicates that I'll want to do a sit down right there from time to time. Well done. Congrats on the new adventure. Great bagel, best scallion cream cheese of my life.

I just had the most satisfying lox bagel on some elevating tastebud levels experience in my life. I'm not even exaggerating. Living in Brooklyn my entire life, sometimes I have a fix for a breakfast sanwhich in the morning or if I'm rushing. On this particular day I was staying in and cramming for finals, so I couldn't bother to make breakfast at home, walk locally to get a bagel; non of that. So I saw on Grubhub Lula's, cautiously looked up the reviews here on yelp. Took a chance, and just got a delivery of the lox bagel with extras... Delivery was on time, thumbs up. But when I look a bite of that smoked lox on my toasted pumpernickel bagel, with dill cream cheese. I INSTANTLY MELTED... the lox (most importantly), tasted "FRESH"..... which is RARE. It was just so perfect. I'll have to visit this place in person via bike trip because my neighborhood has little to no quality lox (they all taste gooey gross) and quality standards for a breakfast sanwhich definitely surprised me. I am born in Brooklyn, living here over 50 years and Crown Heights over 20 years, so i remember the old school Kosher Bagel and Bially places that were all over Flatbush and all over Kings Highway, back from the 60s to 80s! Went here for the first time yesterday and really loved it. I got the fried egg, avocado, tomato and mayo sandwich on an everything bagel and it was perfect. The hot chocolate was creamy and declicious as well. We got there shortly after the shop opened so there was no line and our orders came out pretty quickly. My favorite bagel store in crown height! They make some of the most deliciously brewed coffee and their bagels are fresh, warm and absolutely scrumptious!!!! I'm having happy memories just thinking about them. The location is a bit small so expect crowding and yes, some unbearable heat! They have ceiling fans, yikes! Not good during a NYC heat wave. But when hunger calls and your tummy has a taste for good food, you go to the extreme of satisfying it. Hence the reason I decided to keep going "heat doesn't scare me" lol well, it does but point is, the bagels are EVERYTHING. Overall, I would totally recommend this place and suggest their lox and cream cheese selection on a sesame seed bagel (my little twist). I was in HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!! Lula Bagel is a much needed coffee & bagel spot on Nostrand. Serving up a different vibe from Connecticut Muffin (and closer towards Eastern Parkway), Lula Bagel is able to stand on its own. I've stopped by twice now for a low key breakfast. At first I was shocked that there aren't any basic bacon egg & cheese options, but the menu contains other creative and tasty choices. Twice I've had the egg salad with tomato and have left satisfied each time. The bagels are chewy just as a bagel should be. It seems they run out of popular flavors later on in the day, so go early if you have a certain choice in mind. The shop is on the smaller side but has wall to ceiling windows so you can people watch while you eat. They also take credit/debit cards without a limit. I go here almost everyday. Their coffee is pretty good, and the bagels are delicious. I really like their egg bagels and their sesame bagels. The scallion cream cheese is perfect. I really like the #3, which is just avocado, olive oil, salt and pepper and the #9 which is cheese, turkey or ham, and tomato. The staff are really nice, but it is important to know that the place is small. It's super busy in the weekend and sometimes it's taken 10-15 minutes to get my order, which I don't really mind, but it might bother some people. There's also no bathroom and they have a card minimum of $7. Overall it's a great little bagel shop read more
