Was excited to try this place because it looks clean and the prices are decent. However, this was the worst powder dip manicure I've ever had -- my nail tech didn't file down the dip at all and left it incredibly thick. She also didn't dip one of my nails correctly and instead of fixing it she just filed it down into a weird shape. When I politely asked her to fix a nail where the top coat smudged she said nothing was wrong with it. This place is maybe fine for a polish change and that's it! read more

So I had to tell the woman, Linda, 4 times that I wanted red powder refills. Then I told her to make them shorter by the amount that they had grown. This was said twice. When I followed up about the length she exclaimed "oh my god". Then her and the other women essentially started talking about me for a solid 10 minutes, and I know this because they mimicked they words I had said in English. Then she tried to charge me $10 extra, because I had a new layer put on (actually no, she didn't know how to do refills and made them super thick so I actually had her take the extra powder, that I did not ask for, off). Then she said "I don't want to talk to you much anymore" when I told her I had never asked for a new layer. Then has the audacity to complain about the tip. Also my tips are wider than my base. I will never be going here again, I'd rather just not get my nails done than go here. I normally go to a different salon but they were closed and this one was close by. First of all, their gel colors are very limited and an unknown brand. Then they didn't soak the gel polish I had on for long enough, so I could see the woman physically struggling to get the polish off with the sharp tool. After that, I had asked her to keep to trim my nails but not cut them too much (I had spent 8 weeks growing out my nails). She completely cut my nails off and filed them down until it was painful. Finally, when getting to painting my nails, the color didn't seem right to me. The paint seemed a little off from the example I had seen. I asked to double check that it was correct, and she compared the example against the bottle and claimed they were the same color, even after I said they very much were not. So now my hands look like a 5 year old painted them with the color of their choosing. read more

Went into this little hole in the wall nail salon and I was surprised my nails came out perfect for the most part lol one of my toes is a little shorter then the other but I'm like a perfectionist thats how I noticed otherwise the paint and polish is super cute and perfect and she did this as a rushed job bc I had to get to work in a hurry, gel mani pedi a little on the expensive side but I'm from Brooklyn everything is cheaper there anyways I'm def going to be coming back. read more

Disclaimer: This was my very first time in my life getting a bikini wax, so perhaps you can take my review with a grain of salt. Or if its your first time as well, this may be useful for you. Lulu's was recommended to me by an experienced friend, so I thought I would give it a shot. This is probably not the best place to go for your first time. I stepped into the place, was asked what I needed, and then was immediately ushered into the back room which was like a little closet. I didn't even have time to ask what the price was (it was $21). I was able to ask to use the bathroom, but everything seemed rushed. I laid on the fresh paper on the chair and then she went to work. Super fast and very painful. I didn't know what to expect so I assume this is normal. Her manner was very focused on her work and inattentive to me personally. She was done in less than 10 minutes. I asked later if I could do anything to prevent ingrown hairs (I've had trouble when shaving in the past) but she didn't answer my question, maybe because she didn't understand me, maybe because she didn't know- I'm not sure, but I would have appreciated her caring about my concerns, especially since I told her it was my first time. Linda stayed in the room while I got dressed for some reason. In general I would describe her as insensitive, but hey, the place is very cheap so perhaps you just get what you pay for. Like Stephanie D., I noticed the unsanitary conditions at Lulu's and it concerned me. She used a roller on me which is used on many others and she doesn't use gloves. I'm going to try some other places and see how they are in comparison. And if I suffer some sort of problem from this wax, I'll post that later. read more

Randomly needed to get my nails done on my way to BK. I walked past this spot after getting frustrated with a nail place down the street that had too much of a crowd. Verified on Yelp to make sure it was real. Lol. Walked in and Cynthia greeted me and told me I had about a 30-min wait. I had major time to kill and ended up waiting the same amount of time she told me. Noticed from the jump that she and the two women there were really efficient with the clients who were in their seats. And, from a quick glance, I noticed how nice their nails looked. Cynthia sat me down, looked at my nails, and suggested I try dip powder tips versus acrylics. Nails ended up looking bomb! Haven't gotten falsies in a while, but Cynthia really hooked me up. They look really natural. Will definitely come back here in the next few weeks. read more

My roommate and I walked in 30 minutes before closing and, although we were there fairly late, I didn't expect to be so quickly rushed out of the store. The ladies were nice, but the woman who was working on my nails did so in an extremely rushed manner. She was very careless with painting my nails and would stop and leave for periods of time in order to take care of other closing procedures around the store. I also felt very pressured to choose the quicker dry methods ($1) extra because it seemed as if the woman was in a hurry to rush. Additionally, when I wanted to pay by card, the lady gave me an annoyed look as she had already turned off her credit card machine. It took approximately 5 minutes to turn back on, but I had to wait an additional 10 as she was cleaning up and taking care of other business. Also, while she was rushing to do my nails, she took on another client. I don't understand why she did this if she was in such a rush. If she was going to do a shoddy and rushed job, I would much have rather her turn down my business. My nails also chipped twenty minutes after I left. I will not be back. read more

Great color selection! $8.50 manis. Stumbled upon this place with a friend after eating brunch. The brazilian wax for pretty cheap (can't remember the price... it was like $30 something starting?) Seems to be the place to go for this! Funniest thing is seeing the billion signs of extra services you can get, and the staff trying to sell you every $0.99 cent extra service to you. I got Brazilian wax done by Linda after reading reviews on yelp and I'm determined to come back to Lulu's nail! Linda is fast and detailed. It was painful but what waxing is not painful? It's not the fanciest salon but they are very clean. I went in the morning/weekday so waxing was 22 bucks! So I got 15 min food massage. Massage was ok... I wouldn't get massage here if I had major knots. maybe I'll try getting mani/pedi someday! read more

They did a decent job but the polish chipped off in 2 days. Highly recommend bringing your own polish. Their prices are cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. They also charge extra for callous remover AND scrubbing your feet. Usually places just charge for callous remover and it includes the scrubbing part. Thought that was strange. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon for an underarm and half-leg wax and found a nearly full business. Not especially fancy facility, but functional and sufficient - I saw older equipment, etc., but the place seemed well-kept and I noted that the polish bottles were organized and clean. The lady (I didn't catch her name) who did my wax was meticulous and quick; she has a rollerball dispenser for the soft wax that made it by far the fastest service I have ever had, and she did a nice job. It also appeared from the look of the roller that it is put through UV sterilization. Although she missed a few hairs on her first underarm pass , she did a good job of finding and eliminating strays. I have no negative feedback for Lulu's, and if I lived nearby or had need of nail services, I would absolutely visit again. read more

Had a manicure here with a friend. Negative stars if possible. Workers spoke limited English-- they were native Chinese Mandarin speakers. No CC minimum. 10% Student discount Mon-Thurs before 6. You do not need the quick dry topcoat. Like other reviewers said, the place is really dim, and is lacking a welcoming ambiance. $8.50 for a manicure which is a decent price, but HORRIBLE service. (Normally ranges from $7 to $9--as a matter of fact, a spot a few blocks away was just $7). AVOID this place for a manicure unless you have no standards, and read on for the reasons. -------------- There were 4 people working on a Saturday late afternoon-- good for a small place. All were busy working on pedicures, so we wait and decided to stay because there was a decent color palette. My friend gets seated for UV Gel Tips, but then had to wait for the owner (Linda) because the one who sat us did not know how to. Which is fine, but then the owner proceeds to try to talk us into doing Acrylic tips for double the price ($40--which is exponentially more expensive then I usually see it run for). Not only was it a rushed job, but her nails were not filed evenly, and the paint job was extremely streaky. Onto my manicure: my lady was nice. Although my nails were not filed evenly, she was willingly to fix the mistakes I politely pointed out. A nice short hand massage, and then proceeded to paint my nails. A streaky paint job, after two coats (which may have been the OPI color's fault) so she was willing to paint it one more coat. Color turned out fine but did not clean the polish that bleed onto my nailbed. Granted, there were still 3 or 4 clients waiting, so maybe service will be better on a quiet day. read more

This is my go-to nail spot. $30 for a mani-pedi or a $9 for a manicure. The price is right, but the key is the value-- the mani-pedi's stand the test of time. My manicures usually last 7-10 days sans chip which is among the best I have had. I've tried other pricier salons in the area and am always disappointed when the polish is wearing away within just a few days. I have now been coming here 2-3 x month for over a year and have only had a few manicures that were sub-par (and that is coming from my very high standards). I get pissed off when I think of my experience here. they charge you for EVERY little service. First, there's signs everywhere so you already have a lot of options and can decide what you wanna do before they start, but they still keep asking you if you want the "crystal" pedicure instead? and such "upgrade" is like $10 more. Although being in the most optimal spot for me as it is only a block away from my job; I am afraid I will have to move on to better places. I have been here a total of 4 times and each time, there is only 1 friendly employee there; shameful. The manager seems only friendly to regular customers and perhaps one of a certain background. Yes, it is 2012, but let's be honest enough to say that some things still haven't changed. I hate having to come into places that seem as though they are deeply annoyed by having to do your nails. What a terrible way to spend a lunch break. Not only that, but I have certainly had better manicures and pedicures. They do not remove cuticles consistently and are light on their coats of polish (to be exact). The icing on the cake was when I paid with a credit card at the end of my visit and, without looking at me, the manager who processed the card seemed clearly bothered that I had not put a tip on the card and began talking about me to the lady who had done my nails. This place is fine when you're in a pinch. The actual service was nice and the place was clean. The scary shack in the back titled "wax room" in crooked letters made my friend and I laugh (and vow to never get a wax there). However, my nails started to chip within a day. WTF? My manicures usually last at least 4 days and my pedicures tend to last weeks. I don't know why it happened, to give them the benefit of the doubt maybe it was the humidity? I've been here a few times. My experience was fine. However, my latest visit has high key traumatized me. I went there to get my acrylic nails soaked off. The acrylics were done somewhere else so I asked them if they can take them off and give me a manicure. They said they can do it, but tried to rush it. Even before letting my nails soak in acetone, she tried to slide a metrocard between my nail and the acrylic which hurt like hell. I had to tell her to stop because she was sticking the metrocard under my real nail at one point. Then another nail tech came to help her and was adamant to rip the acrylic off after only soaking my nails for 5 min barely. As a result she stabbed my real nail causing it too bleed. Then she began to file down the acrylic and ended up filing off half my real nail. Meanwhile I did tell them they were hurting me but I guess they didn't believe me or didn't care. I'm a fan of Lulu's because of their speed (at brazilians) and their price. I've never had a more efficient or cheaper wax. That being sad, I felt like the quality of the wax was quite poor. My skin was a bit irritated but nothing horrible. The waxer also was not afraid to get all the last bits of hairs. Not sure why, but I felt like my wax grew back quickly. Most thorough, fast and cheap wax I've had, and I've had a lot! The Brazilian is like $27 compared to the $14 Bikini Wax - which almost changed my mind, but I had to go all the way 'cause I'm like that. My hair is blonde so usually a whole bunch of sneaky little guys escape even a well seasoned waxing artists, but not this time! After a no-nonsense wax, she went back over with tweezers by feel, which I usually have to do myself at home. Bravo! I had my legs too, she used the roller-thingy which I love because it doesn't burn, and that too was quick and easy. I'd not recommend this for a novice waxer, because they don't go slow and check to make sure you are comfortable or able to breathe or whatever, but if you know you can handle a wax and you want a really clean job at an affordable price, this is pretty unbeatable! read more

The manager rushes through every job. My nails are constantly cut and filed completely uneven and the paint is never fully on each nail. The staff just goes through the motions on pedicures. They gently rub your heels for 4 seconds instead of scrubbing hard to get off the dead skin. My feet are never soft after leaving. The up sells are also really annoying. If I felt they did an ok job with the regular experience, maybe I'd consider an upsell.... But I just dont trust that it'd be worth it. read more

A customer they were attending to brought in her old french bulldog who wandered around the place, hopping on and off of chairs and ... my lap? Really? They could have asked her to leash him or something. Immediate eyebrow raise for sanitary concerns) The pedicure they talked me into was pretty great and relaxing. After that first hurdle which calmed my nerves about the place being so tiny and slightly dingy looking, I began to have high hopes that the wax I originally came for would be as great as all these reviews suggested it would be. Alas. Six weeks later my crotch still bares the battle scares of ugly red bumps and ingrown hairs. Now I'm a no-frills kind of gal, and have a pretty high-pain threshold, but even for a seasoned veteran, the experience was terrifying and painful. I've come here for my last two mani's because Orchid Garden was either closed or too backed up. The ladies here are sweet. The first time the owner took me in on a Sunday night at 9pm! Only in NYC. The second time, I was in a rush, because I had less than 1 hour before a date. They came through both times. Be aware of the extra services that you might expect for free at other places. The place doesn't look like a spa - actually the first time I went the owner forgot to throw out the previous customer's paper towel on the table - and is pretty simple. I can't really speak for the nail color selection. I've been BYO-ing it ever since I found a super cheap wholesale site with my favorite OPI and Essie colors. I've been coming to Lulu's for a couple of years, and I might still go for a quick leg wax, but realize now there are cheaper places --the nice clean threading place on St. Marks around the corner, for instance. Linda is super fast at Brazilian waxing (got sort of used to just baring it all with her :P) but I do not think this place is very sanitary and I think I'm going to stop frequenting the place after finding so many options in the hood. As for mani/pedis, they really don't take time even if the place is empty. They could really stand to update the place, the lighting is bad where it is hard to see the polish colors. TERRIBLE ! I went to get nail extensions and they kept adding onto the original price they told me. Not even a week later 3 nails broke, I went back to get them fixed and the color changed. I went back a day later because a nail broke again and they tried to charge me 10$ to get one nail fixed!!!!! I argued with them because it was crazy, they use bad quality products and are rude. How this place has good reviews is beyond me...the only reason I even came here is bc lilac nails told me it was a 20 min, got there in 10 and waited another 10, f them too lol The quickest pedicure EVER. She let my feet soak for a min or so She half assed cuticle removal They use the shitty callus remover so no dead skin actually comes off and I highly doubt they sanitize their tools. 16 second massage on left arm, 34 seconds on the right...yup, I kept count again. give it a whole 60 seconds AT LEAST! There was NO reason to rush, the nail tech who's name I didn't bother to ask (she wears glasses) played on her phone for the 30 min I sat for m nails to dry. If you're going to expect a tip, don't be so f'ing lazy next time. 33 min to start to finish for a mani AND pedi?? My 9 yo niece could've done a better job. A girlfriend and I were in the neighborhood and needed our eyebrows waxed - we saw the signage in front of Lulu's and went in and were pleasantly surprised to find amazing prices and great service. While we waited for a minute, I was noticing the pretty nail polish covers and my friend noticed the inexpensive pricelist. We decided to get our eyebrows waxed as well as get manicures. The total was below $20 and the results of both were great. The establishment is small and clean and the staff was very nice and efficient. I'll be frequenting Lulu's in the future! read more

This place hits all of the marks for me- the manicurists are friendly, very quick and skilled, the place is sanitary (the technicians even put the nail files in the autoclave after use), and they can always fit you in- even when you show up 10 minutes before closing, they'll fit you in with a smile. This had to be the worst experience I've ever had in the 20 years I've been getting manicures. I had an appointment for 4pm, arrived early and they let me know they could take me at 4:30 for an acrylic manicure. At 4:45 they sat me down and had an employee who was training soak my nails in acetone for over 30 minutes because they insisted I needed a new set rather than a fill. After 30 minutes passed I asked how long until my manicure would resume and they said in another hour and a half. After they already made a mess with my nails and the acetone and there was no way I could leave. 2 hours pass and they decide to help me and after they applied tips they told me they actually don't do acrylic nails and they would do dip instead, which I told them I didn't want. They cut into 4 of my cuticles to the point of bleeding all over the place. After unwillingly doing the dip manicure the nail tech accidentally cut one hand ridiculously shorter than the other then couldn't figure out how to file the nails. She insisted I pay $80 for a dip manicure instead of the agreed upon $30 acrylic fill. She said she had to pay her managers and the company and couldn't discount even a little. This was so upsetting and I now have to have my nails redone tomorrow which will be extremely painful considering my cuticles are all bleeding.
