the flip-side to my john's review. after being so disappointed with john's indian delivery, i pulled myself up by my boot-straps and headed back into the storm, armed only with other yelpers' recommendations. full disclosure: it was a sunday morning -- no, wait -- afternoon. yes. i'd been partying like it was daylight savings the night before. spicy + carbs were on the menu. price was no object. i got my usual when i'm not getting oneofeverything on buffet: lamb vindaloo, aloo paneer, vegetable samosas, garlic naan, extra side of green sauce. totaled about $40 with tip. i ordered online using foodler, which is super convenient and awesome. it estimated about 45 minutes for arrival but my food was there in under 30. the delivery person was extremely polite. everything was hot, freshly made, and packaged properly. and the food... was... delicious!! just the right amount of seasoning in everything; tasted exactly as it should. there's no point in going into detail for dishes like these; either they're cooked right, or they're not. and these were. the naan was better than most, with tons of fresh chopped garlic adorning it. yum! the only reason it misses a star is because i HAVE had better -- not outrageously better, but better. but most importantly, this place will absolutely satisfy your indian food craving, with at least 3 meals' worth of leftovers if you're not sharing. which i wasn't. read more

Without question this is the best Indian/Nepali food in Baltimore. After returning from Nepal last year I wanted to find some authentic Nepalese food. They use almost the same spices on all their curry dishes and they all taste the same. In terms of authenticity, they are really way far away from the real deal. Yet another Indian/Nepalese restaurant on Charles Street. It seems like these pop up every few months or I'm just not looking hard enough and there are many more that I just haven't seen. The lunch buffets is by far the cheapest in any Indian restaurants and even on weekends, this place is only $10 which is about $2 cheaper than the other 3 Indian restaurants in the Mount Vernon area. I usually choose my favorite Indian restaurants based on their naan and chicken tikki marsala and the naan here was a little crispier than what I prefer but the butter made up for it. The tikki marsala was also good but I found the chicken a little too thick and not marinated enough in the middle but I guess I'm just picky. The other veggie dishes were very good and the chai tea is also really good here. The tandoori chicken was slightly overcooked but very few Indian buffets seem to get this right. Anywyays, overall I really liked the buffets and I would come back here again. read more

Used a groupon for 4 ppl and ended up paying about 30 bucks a person with tip overall which was a little bit pricey for the caliber of a place but we did each have drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts, a feast really! They added the 20% tip for us to our tab even tho we were only 4 ppl, hardly a large party. The food was good but left me very gasey afterwards (TMI?) Service was good overall but flakey. when one of us ordered a nepal tea as an add on, they blatantly forgot and after asking for it twice from two separate people to no avail, I was pretty annoyed. We asked for it again for dessert and they finally brought it after a long while without any apologies or acknowledgment hence the 3 star rating...otherwise this would be a solid 4 star place. read more

So it's really cheap for just $9.99 per person for lunch buffet. The thing I found great about this place is that you don't come out of the restaurant smelling like you've been in an indian restaurant... I don't know how they do it, but they do =). Anyways, so the chicken tikka marsala is pretty bland compared to the other indian buffet restaurants on Charles Street, BUT their goat curry is the best I've ever tasted. The meat is so tender and soft and very easy to chew. I think I got like 3 servings of it. The naan was ok, but it tasted a little different than the other naans I've tasted... I wish I could put my finger on it and explain how slightly different it is but I can't. Maybe it was the texture, but trust me.... it tasted different. The tandoori chicken was juicy this time around and it was delicious =). I also had the veggie dishes which were great =). The ambience is very casual where you can bring your colleagues just to chat. I definitely don't think of it as a good first date place though. Bottom line: It's cheap and it's good. Lumbini has tasty food that's a little different from your typical Indian fare. They have most of the standard menu items that you'll find in Indian restaurants along with a number of Nepalese items. I don't know how authentic they are but most of what I had was quite tasty. One item that I was not fond of was naan that appeared to have maraschino cherries in it. I don't know what that was supposed to be, but it was also an outlier. Lumbini is BYOB which I always approve of. read more

We must have driven by this restaurant hundreds of times. We ate across the street several times. But we never knew it was there until friends bought a coupon from an on-line site. We've eaten at Indian restaurants in the past, but never one that specialized in Nepalese food before this visit. The food is similar to Indian, but the spices and variety are different. I have a dairy allergy, and they were helpful in finding a dish I would enjoy. Everyone enjoyed their dinners, appetizers and breads. The owners will greet you warmly and are sincere when they wish you well and hope you return. We will be back with or without a coupon in the future. read more

Tried lumbini because my usual indian place isnt open on sundays and I had an online deal. Delivery took quite a while, which i expected since theyre basically downtown and im in fed hill. However the chicken korma was very spicey, not what I expect at all. Chicken korma is generally creamy/buttery and nutty. Portion size was pretty standard. I have yet to find a place I like nearly as much as himalayan house! The food arrived hot and it was pretty average. Some sort of whole spice used in the curry was left in and it was unpleasant to bit into. A buck or two more expensive per entree than the other local places, but delivery was free All in all, Cant complain. 3 stars. read more

The most delcious food and I have eaten in Indian restaurants all over North America! I love to split a whole tandoori chicken which comes all cut up in a sizzling platter with wonderful basmati rice. The free pampadum bread and chutney/condiments is excellent as is the spinach and cheese dish - saag paneer. The atmosphere is relaxed, with a big crystal chandelier and painted murals and the service is friendly and knowledgable, they always help me choose something new to taste. A tasty dinner for two with tons of leftovers is $33.00 - you can't beat that. Quickly becoming my favorite Baltimore restaurant. Did I mention it is BYOB with no corkage fee? Lumbini is a solid Indian restaurant. Start with the Lumbini Momo appetizer, as they are delicious. The Lamb Vindaloo was very good, but the star of the evening was the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was amazing. The wife liked the rice pudding, and I had the sweet balls for desert, which were like little donuts floating in a sweet sauce. Can't speak for wine/beer menu, as we didn't order any. Because of the better than good service and better than good food, we have ourselves a plate adorned with four stars. I ordered the whole wheat unleavened bread with typical tri-dish accompaniment(brown sweet, red onion hot, and yummy green). I have never experienced much variation with that and personally preferred a mixture of green with hot on the crackly thin bread. I also ordered coconut lamb curry "hot." The server wanted to clarify: "Hot or MEDIUM." I replied "Hot." This exemplifies precisely the perennial problem my fair skin and blue eyes have convincing Indians what temperature I desire in the food. The dish came out very tasty with delicious easily workable and falling apart lamb and good spices with of course well made basmati rice, but only MILD heat. 2/3 of the way thru my meal she asked how it was which led to them giving more heat to the remainder- and to my delight it came out extremely close to where I wanted it. Other comments: this place is larger than it looks, and the music is soo low volume as to be a negligible experience. read more

I was visiting from out of town. Our last night we were excited to have Indian food. I liked the place but I believe it is over priced. Not so much the entre but like someone else wrote , nickel & dime you. On the menu it said $2.50 for the sweet lassi . Yet we got charged $4.50. I didn't questioned it thinking I must have read it wrong. I should have. Just other stuff was just not right. I'm just going to say. Look at the receipt . Also too little naan for the price.
