I was craving some chicken adobo...Lumings took care of that for me. I arrived in the evening...location is very clean inside and out. I had plenty of questions as I am still new to Filipino food but the staff was excellent at educating me. I am cutting back on pork so the staff made other recommendations and I appreciated that. I ordered lumpia as well and that was cooked for me to order so just imagine. What shocked me the most was the reasonable prices...I was able to feed a family of 3 with leftovers for under 30...that's shocking...food was fresh and packaged so that I didn't have leak upon making my way home. I came here at 1pm on a Sunday and they are so popular that almost all the food was wiped out. I really like their pork paksew. I really don't know how to describe it. Basically pork that was simmered in soy sauce, other sauces, and spices. It's super flavorful, rich and delicious. This is one of the OG Filipino spots in the DMV so a lot of people are regulars. Just wanted to put this out there that my family homecooks all the time, all day everyday. Every occasion, they cook up a storm therefore I'm so used to great Filipino cooking. I've tried a few Filipino places in the DMV area and Filipino food from Lumings is by far THE BEST and closest (almost similar, it's kinda scary) to my mother and family's cooking! I came to eat lunch after church and the food are fresh and just got out of the pots! I ordered a meal of rice and dinuguan. Also tried lechon which was $15 per pound, not bad at all. For myself $10 worth of lumpia as well. I was in Filipino food heaven. The cooking, flavor and quality were up to par. I felt so happy eating my food as it reminded me of home (home is New Jersey) and definitely missed my mom and my family a lot after eating great Filipino food. I'm recommending this place to my friends and even told my mom about this great experience I had. The owner was so nice and the line got so long after I came in. She had so many regulars! I also loved it that she spoke to me in Tagalog because most of the times, older people speak to me in English assuming I don't speak the language. We were really excited to try Lummings. What a disappointment and we're lucky we didn't get sick. They have a steam table they serve from but it either wasn't set right or wasn't on. The food, at best, was lukewarm. The adobo was room temperature and nearly tasteless. The pork skewers were room temperature. The serving area was dirty. The two people working there were a mix of rude and bored. There are MUCH better Filipino restaurants, some nearby. Go to those places. read more

I am at work writing this reivew. Just finished my food about 5 minutes ago and DAMN. FINALLY SOME REAL GOOD CHEAP EATS! For starters this was my first time having Filipino food and wow yo. So damn tasty. I had a sweet shredded pork along with beef stew. I chose to keep it simple as it was my first time and wanted to play it safe. My platter cost a whopping $7.50 ya'll for a mountain of rice, beef stew, and sweet pork. Worth every penny and AMAZING in terms of cheap eats let me TELL you. The quality is NOT cheap you can see the gang of Filipino grandmas in the back cooking it up. This shop is located in a random parking lot and it looks like a house but make no mistake. The cooking has love in it. Also disregard the 1 star review regarding mUh fOoD sAfEtY rULes aNd sOCiAL diStaNCinG. This place fails on food safety. I came in a few days ago to get some breakfast during the Covid-19 pandemic. The servers weren't wearing masks, enforcing social distancing, or taking any measures as far as covering their food from customers talking over their food serving tables. My biggest complaint comes from the experience I had with the lady serving the food. I had a piece of tapa hanging out of the container and I asked if she could fix it so it would stop leaking all over their counter. Instead of using the serving spoon from the food, she used her hand to move the hanging meat back into the container. I told her that she shouldn't do that but instead she got defensive stating she only used those gloves to handle food. I was extremely frustrated because a guy behind me tried to justify why it was "OK". His thought process was you could not get corona virus through consumption but clearly has never heard of viruses like Salmonella of E. Coli. Now I had to deal with two idiotic people which had my blood boiling. I clearly saw her moving food pans to and from the back kitchen along with operating the register. She was clearly stubborn on her ways and she was still fussing with remaking my food to the other server as if I weren't standing there. Afterwards, I found out she was the co-owner of the business after I left the store. I come to this place often but I'll probably be staying away now due to the stubborn owner, the lack of food safety, and bad experience. Wish we could give them 10 stars! First of all, we have to thank the restaurant owners, Luming and her husband, and the friendly staff for making our first Filipino cuisine experience so awesome! The owners are the nicest people we've ever met. Seriously. Especially have to point out how welcoming they were when explaining all the foods to us and we just loved seeing patrons getting takeouts from this home-like restaurant! (It seriously looks like a one-story house from the outside) :) [Pancit Malabon] Pancit Malabon is Luming's specialty dish and it's also a national dish in the Philippines. It is made of thick rice noodles (almost like spaghetti) stir fried with fish sauce, shrimp paste, garlic, and awesome seasoning, topped with shrimps and sliced hard-boiled eggs. It is commonly eaten with lemon juice. The first bite was as flavorful as it looked. Loved the citrus flavor that first hit your tongue, then tastes of saltiness from the fish sauce and shrimp paste just added extra richness to this beautiful-looking noodle dish! Two thumbs-ups! [BBQ Pork Skewer] Luming's BBQ skewer is their second specialty dish and it's also one of the most ordered foods at this place. We got one pork skewer and oh boy did we want to get another one! We ordered quite a lot of food because we wanted to try them all! So anyway, the BBQ pork skewer was grilled perfectly, meaning a bit burnt because that's the way we love our BBQ! The barbecue sauce is on the saltier side, not the very sweet or tangy ones we typically find in American BBQ sauce. The pork was tender and the sauce was a bit salty, so it went very well with our steamed rice. Highly recommended! [Chicken Adobo] Chicken Adobo is another popular and common dish in the Philippines. We learned from the owners that there are Adobo made with different types of meat, and the chicken kind seems to be the most common. Our order included a side of rice and three pieces of chicken. Chicken Adobo is cooked with vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and pepper. It paired perfectly with the steamed rice (you can order fried rice if you'd like). We don't like sauces at restaurants that are often too salty. This chicken Adobo was seasoned just right. Yum! [Lumpia Shanghai] We got the pork Lumpia, which is another very common Filipino dish. Lumpia is basically spring roll made of ground pork and finely chopped onion and carrots. The owners offered us a small sample portion to try! It came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. This wasn't our first time eating spring rolls, but they made them very well. The wrap was really thin and crispy (some places have really thick wrapping and little stuffing) and it was fully stuffed with pork, carrots and onions. Loved the sweet and sour pairing! This isn't new to me as I'm from Hong Kong! [Dessert #1: Turon] If you've never had plantain before, try Turon and you will fall in love with plantain. It is basically Lumpia spring rolls, except it's the sweet version - stuffed with plantain and jackfruit, topped with caramel or brown sugar. OMG this was amazing, especially when eaten fresh! Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. This wasn't as sweet as it seemed, and even though we were so stuffed we still loved this dessert! The plantain almost tasted like sweet potato. Highly recommended! [Dessert #2: Halo-Halo] We heard that Halo-Halo is a popular dessert in the Philippines, so we had to order one. It did not disappoint us at all. And how cute of a food name is this? Halo-Halo! Ha love it! It's shaved ice mixed with evaporated milk, red bean, jelly, chickpeas, and then topped with flan and taro ice cream all in one cup. This isn't just amazing-looking, but also super refreshing! This is perfect on a summer day. Even though we came on a Fall day, this Halo-Halo just ended our first Filipino meal perfectly. Double thumbs-ups to this dessert! We just cannot express how much we love this place. It's genuine home-made Filipino food. Not only are the people very friendly, their food is made with love. 4/11/2020 Updated Review: Wanted to give them another chance and this visit was worse than the last. The door sign said they open ar 8 am so when we were trying to go in, the guy just kept looking at us. He let us in after 5 minutes and said, we weren't supposed to be let in until 10am because that is when they open. So then were wondering why does the sign then says 8? And he ignored us. Upon entering this tiny place, there were 3 lines marked with bright tape, I'm guessing for the social distancing aspect but they were only probably 3 ft apart. Then out comes one of the older filipino ladies. She asked us what we wanted. I looked at the food, and they seemed to have just made it. I asked the lady how much the fried milkfish is and she said $10. I then said on, that's expensive! I then decided to go get combo of menudo and paksiw milkfish and she said it would cost another dollar for the milkfish, I said that's fine. She then put the paksiw in a separate container and she put the smallest cut of the fish. Not the head, not the tail, the belly part that was like the smallest part of meat and shes charging me an extra dollar?! Then she started putting eggplant. I hate eggplants and asked if she can just put Bittermelon. I said it twice and she just ignored me putting 1 slice of eggplant, and 1 slice of Bittermelon. And 1 ladle of soup, the whole thing literally filled 1/3 of the plastic container. I then said I'd get 3 pork bbq's. The combo, with extra dollar charge and 3 pork bbq's cost $17.44. The whole time she was wearing gloves btw, she didnt remove it upon entering the room when she asked us what we wanted to her ringing up the register, handing my husband the pen to sign, to giving him the receipt to going back and stirring the foods from shere you choose to buy...she did not remove her gloves. I was so disgusted at how unsanitary she is. Can you imagine if she was handling someone that was sick? She just passed it to all the customers. Also, none of them were wearing face mask. I will not be back here. I 'm truly disappointed and disgusted by the lack of care from people like her. Also, I reheated the food to make sure we dint get sick. 1st Review I didnt realize the food was expensive for what we had. The pork barbecue was so dry it was like eating beef jerky. The combo I ordered was minuscule and was given two meats for each dish. The rice was alot but who wants that? Food is delicious and women behind the serving line are super sweet. You aren't just eating at a restaurant you're eating at auntie's! Our only Filipino place that I know of in Prince George's county. I have ordered food here at least three times already and they don't disappoint. I have had multiple meat and vegetable dishes and their food taste is consistent. I had their pinakbet (sautéed vegetables), laing (taro leaves with coconut milk), menudo, chicken BBQ (skewered chicken), vegetable lumpia. I also tried their premade pals ok and I thought it was ok...will for sure coming back to get my Filipino food fix- just wish there were more stores like this in the area. I found myself in Fort Washington on MLK day (they were open on the holiday!), and was craving some Filipino food (comfort food for me). I've had Luming's bookmarked since moving to the DMV so I was pretty excited to check it out. Luming's is "turo-turo" style, like a lot of Filipino restaurants, which means the food is laid out in trays and you tell the person behind the counter which items you want (basically cafeteria style). You'll find that a lot of the food choices are either fried or submerged in a broth, all of which are tasty. I chose the lechon kawali, which is deep-fried pork that is equal part meat, fat and a little skin. You eat it with a sweet gravy-like sauce and a tamarind broth that you can scoop over your rice to cut through some of the richness of the pork. It's so delicious! I also ordered fried fish and tocino, but the lechon was so filling that I ended up bringing the other entrees home. The menu also had items that you have made to order. The restaurant is smaller, so while you can definitely order to go, I would not recommend for big groups. The restaurant is in a bungalow and feels like you are eating at a relatives house. The staff are friendly, and come check on you as you are eating to make sure you're doing all right. read more

There aren't a lot of authentic asian food varieties in southern Maryland, let alone Filipino cuisine, but if you live in the southern part of the Belt in MD and craving for some legit Filipino food, Lumings is the go to! They are a very small establishment and I wouldn't plan on eating there as it is very limited seating, but if you go during an off time, you'll be solid. They have an impressive amount of options for you to select. Most customers will get their plate special which is a side of rice and 1-2 sides. Some things get rotated out daily but there are some items available daily such as BBQ, denugan, fried fish etc. If you're craving for some lumpiang shanghai, it's made to order so go ahead and order it! I am disappointed that they do not offer lechon kawali but hey if you want the whole hog, they can definitely offer that! We ordered a whole lechon last Thanksgiving for the holiday but primarily in celebration of my new baby's arrival. It's def my go to spot for Filipino food since everything else is too far away.
