This has become my favorite breakfast spot. The food is always hot, the waitresses are so polite and the portion sizes are huge! Plan on splitting a meal with someone or taking half of your meal home. When you get the omelette you get a choice of grits, fried apples, pancakes or toast. It's way too much food for me. After standing in line for 15 mins and no one advising us on the wait time, we decided to leave as only 1 couple had been seated in that time. I peeked into the dining area and it was clean and the servers were hustling but they appeared understaffed. I ordered Papaw's Favorite and every part of it was good. Stacks has recently renovated the entire place _ it looks great! There is now a Cafe Neo coffee bar inside serving coffee & espresso drinks. You can order to go or to drink when you are dining at Stacks. You can also order online to pick up. Their Freddo Espresso & Freddo Cappuccino & Lattes are great! As far as the restaurant, I've only had lunch and dessert here and it's been great both times. They have a fantastic combo of Greek and American options. We stopped in for dinner and it was wondeful. I ordered the Gyro sandwich and was not disappointed! My hubby ordered the country fried steak and my son ordered the kid's pancakes with bacon. All our food was delicious! Our waitress was pleasant and our food was prompt. We got there just before the Friday night crowd but there is plenty of seating in their newer renovated space. This restaurant is mainly known for their breakfast items, but they also have a very extensive menu for lunch and dinner. I have mixed reviews of this restaurant because I have been here many times and have had both good and bad experiences. The food is pretty decent. It is what you would typically expect from a typical restaurant. So far I have not found anything that has surprised me. The one thing I do not like is there are certain breakfast meals that you cannot exchange sides on. For example, I do not like grits. There are certain meals that come with grits and most places will substitute hash browns in place of the grits; this restaurant will not allow you to substitute. I was even willing to pay an up charge, but I was told that that is not allowed. One of the lunch/dinner options that I personally like at this restaurant are the gyros, if they still have them on the menu. We will sometimes go to this restaurant if other restaurants are not open, but it is not when I go to on a regular basis. As far as recommending this location, I am neither here nor there on my recommendation. I feel like the food and service were better when they were at the old location, even though it was a much smaller building. read more

Been here twice, sits back from main road. Large area for seating. Ordered chicken salad on a croissant. You could also have it in a wrap, on a tomato slice or pineapple. I also had cottage cheese and seasonal fruit as part of the platter. The croissant was toasted, a nice touch. The fruit was a generous portion, slices of honeydew, cantelope, watermelon, pineapple, strawberries and bananas. I was a great meal. I had a slice of blueberry pie, it's made somewhere else. Clean, Great service. We have always had great food. Their soups are excellent and think people often miss them. Our favorite is the cabbage soup on Thursday. Some of the waitresses have worked there a long time and really know the menu. So nice to go in and be greeted with a smile. read more

Solid diner food with generous portion sizes. I wanted breakfast for lunch, and that's just what I got...a veggie omelet with grits, wheat toast and coffee. My omelet was just a tad over cooked for my liking, but still good. The grits were creamy and hot (butter on the side), and toast was toast. Can't really screw that up, right? All in all, it hit the spot and I had leftovers for the next AM, as well. Mary, my waitress was efficient and friendly as well as the manager who cashed me out. He talked me into a slice of pumpkin cheesecake to go, and although I doubt it was made in house it had a good flavor and consistency. Not too much spice, just enough. The service is amazing! In terms of New Castle places to eat, Stacks is rather expensive. They do have a variety of menu items though, and they do serve breakfast all day. Additionally, I would not recommend coming on a Sunday after church. It is extremely busy, and there is often a long line to be seated. It is very nice and clean here though, and the waiters and waitresses are always extremely kind and accommodating. I have never met someone who worked here who I wasn't super impressed with. read more

Read the reviews on Yelp and decided to give Stacks a try. The place is very clean, seating is terrific and service was good as well. Our only complaint (not really complaining) was the food seemed a little on the 'bland' side for taste. French toast was cooked perfectly but seemed to lack any vanilla or cinnamon being added to the coating. Portions were just right! We definitely try it again when in town. Worth visit! read more

First thought on returning after the Covid shutdown and Stack's interior renovation is: "don't forget who brung ya to the dance". Old saying, but it means a lot and applies to the "new and apparent improved" Stack's. Upon entering the entire restaurant has a new very modern update. Bold red & black interior with vinyl wood floors. It would sell well in a large city, but not the cozy hometown feel Stack's once had of the family diner. I specifically decided to eat at Stack's because I was hungry for their French Onion Soup that was a standard on their old menu. I learned the new post lockdown abbreviated menu no longer has my favorite soup. I understand survival for restaurants in this day and age, but I was still quite disappointed. My dad ordered the full Sausage Biscuit & Gravy entree'. It came out on new triangular upscale plates for the new upscale theme they are going for. The new genre' would be fine IF the portions were still the same generous size they once were and as good. My dad's 3 biscuits were not served open face smothered in gravy, but instead whole with gravy on top of each whole biscuit. He immediately questioned why and I knew it was a cost per serving decision. To pay for the updated plate they are not serving open face biscuits to scale back on the quantity of gravy required. My dad asked after eating one biscuit and using all the extra gravy aside the whole biscuits if he could get some more gravy to eat open face. He got the gravy (not sausage like his original order, but plain white) and also got charged for a side of gravy. Not good business for repeat old time customers. I had a Greek salad which was very good with lot's of Feta and Kalamata olives. However for the $9:?? something it would have been nice to have a warm pita with it, or at least crackers. Our server was polite and efficient no complaint with service at all. The new back wall boasted of all their properties including the new Coffee House division and a new Chop House. I am guessing the younger generation now running the business see a new high end focus, which is fine and I wish them well. However, if you want to keep the small town of NC that supported the family diner that started in the old Hardee's, and grew accustom to the family of owners greeting every customer and making sure all are satisfied the vision may need re-thinking. My family loved Stack's and ate there frequently for years because of the good food and the great personal attention with the hometown feel. Now, the portions are smaller, the prices are higher and gone is that intimate diner feel. Could be brand new customers will love the changes and new direction to appeal to the high end. As for some of the long time customers like my family, we will remember the old days of Stack's fondly and turn to other area family diner's. read more

Yummy! Great service, Clean dining room restrooms were spotless. We came in for lunch and I ordered breakfast my business partner ordered lunch food. Country fried steak - tender meaty goodness covered with creamy gravy, eggs perfectly scrambled with cheese and white toast buttered. It was great our waitress didn't hover over us and she still managed to keep our coffee cups full. They had about 12 tables with patrons when we walked in but it was still quiet enough to have a quick lunch meeting. I will definitely be back the next time I am in New Castle there are so many menu items that I still want to try. Me and my mom went in for brunch. As we walked in we were seated emedintly and the nice young lady took are drink order and was back in no time the menu has everything you could think of from a breakfast and dinner all day type of food establishment. I ordered cheese sticks and the rodeo burger along with fries. The lady took are order and are food was out in no time the cheese sticks had a crunchy outter shell only down fall was it wasn't as cheesey as id prefer. The rodeo burger was cooked perfectly and dressed nicley with that hot and sweet taste I got from the peppers and onions it was a perfect blend. Witch brings me to the French Fry's they were the cream of the corn persay.
