You cannot find something bad on this menu. I have been a few times and have loved every bite. Not to mention the service is always impeccable. Try the mushroom ravioli, or the chicken cannelloni, you will not be disappointed. Generous with the 3 stars because our second server tried very hard to turn our evening around after a poor start. It all started bad with our initial server, a grumpy lady who was so rude. We requested a different server immediately. Never done that before but I wasn't going to have a rude server all night while entertaining out of town guests. The food. I don't know what's 4 stars about this place by other yelpers. Lasagna was pretty good, slightly mushy, canneloni was ok. The BEST ,was the gnocchi with sausage. Yes, this dish was very good, nicely prepared. Overall it was ok. The desserts were very good. I would say better than the entrees. But the bottom line is the service and first impression was very poor. Please have the grump either quit or change her attitude. For that reason alone, I will not return. Well I've only been here once with my parent's who have been here a few times. When they asked me if I wanted to go to some italian place in downtown concord I was like uhh ok sure. Not a frequent fan of downtown Concord but they have some pretty good places now around there. This place was way better than I expected. I ordered this lamb dish that was reallllly good. The only problem I had was that the sun was in our faces most of the time as it was going down. They should have some curtains or something. I was celebrating a special occasion, and was happy to have spend it Luna. We didn't have reservations, but it was ok because they took us right away. We ordered the mussels, shrimp scampi, beet salad, crab ravioli, mushroom ravioli, panna cotta, and tiramisu. All of it was amazing. The mushroom ravioli was a lot better than the crab, but it was all fantastic. The service was great, and the wine was as well. I only wish there were more options to have wine by the glass, but I was very pleased with my experience. read more

came here right when they opened on a Saturday evening. we were the only ones there. service was a little slow, went about 15 min without being asked if we wanted more water. our app took about 25 minutes to come out as well. entrees came out about ten after that. minus the awkwardly slow service the food was great! it was really good and I was so so satisfied with my entree. read more

This could be a rare, authentic Italian restaurant in the East Bay. I grew up in the NYC area and had many favorites, but hv had a hard time finding a restaurant in the suburbs with a terrific menu. The seafood risotto recommended by the host was delicious. The sauce was sublime. I hesitated to order risotto because I was craving a delicious pasta dish, but I listened to my host, and was glad I did. I set aside half the dinner to take home because I thought the desserts might be very good also. Loved the artistic presentation of the portiferoles which were the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner. Looking forward to returning soon and trying new menu items. read more

My wife and I tried this place after reading the reviews on here. She loved the lasagna and I loved the chiapino. I asked the waiter for his recommendation and he made the right choice for me. The food tasted very fresh and it was not too heavy. The restaurant is very small inside, so I would not recommend it if you are looking for a romantic evening. I was delighted to find Luna. The preparation, quality, and variety of the menu is impressive. Everything we ordered was delicious, esp. the mushroom bruschetta. The prices are so reasonable. Some posters have written that the wine list is subpar. I heartily disagree. While it is true that there are few wines offered by the glass, the wine list offers some interesting wines at reasonable prices. Finally, regarding the service...there were three large tables (12 or more people at each table) dining when we arrived for our reservation. The kitchen seemed overwhelmed. We got our salad and appetizer quickly, but there was a long delay until we got our entrees. We didn't mind because the owner/host was gracious and kept coming over to pour our wine and check on us. At the end of the meal, we received some complimentary desserts. This restaurant is quaint, romantic, and unpretentious-- a nice place to have a delicious meal. read more

I had the gnocchi tonight. It was tasty. Nothing to write home about, mind you. My wife had the penne special and took the uneaten portion home solely out of guilt. It's not that it was bad; it's just that it wasn't great. Now, a note for the vegetarian haters: We get it. My husband and I tried Luna today for the first time. We started with a house salad, and a pepper soup which were both delicious. After this good beginning, our meal went downhill. I ordered the fettucini carbonara which was not carbonara. Real carbonara is made with beaten eggs which are added to the hot cooked pasta so that the sauce thickens with the heat of the pasta. Carbonara should also have cooked pancetta and black pepper added. It is a very difficult dish to do, as it can easily end up like scrambled eggs on pasta. When cooked correctly, it is a dish I love. The pasta I was served was fettuccine (not house made) in a sauce that tasted like an Alfredo sauce flavored with bacon, onions and peas. No eggs! It was certainly easier to make than carbonara, but it should not have been listed as carbonara. My husband had the lasagna, and it came with a white cream sauce (not quite balsamella) and a tomato cream sauce. He pronounced it "strange." We also ordered spumoni which was not spumoni, but chocolate ice cream wrapped around pistachio, and vanilla ice cream. I might try Luna again, but I would be very careful to question the server before ordering. read more

First off this place isn't really Italian like they say. It is more of an Mediterranean mix. So don't go there expecting strict Italian food. But what they do make is very good. Seems like a lot of their food they put way too much sauce and too many ingredients in them instead of keeping it fresh and simple. They tend to underseason everything. But overall they make some good food. The wine selection is wonderful. One thing I love, is that I can come here looking for a nice dressed up classy kind of night without the expensive bill at the end. read more

I'd give the place 3.5 if I could. Interesting take on Italian food, which fails at times, but in some respects is quite good. It's not gourmet-drive-out-of-your-way Italian food, but it's nice to have a dependably decent restaurant to frequent if you live or work in these parts. I was there for a late lunch on a weekday, and service was slow but not unduly for the hour and tenor of the joint at the time. The wine list was somewhat limited, which is disappointing. I had the veal piccata al limone, which lacked the lemon bite I like, and the veal was overcooked. Serving size was fine, and the server kindly replaced potatoes on the side with pasta for me. Husband had the lasagna, which came in the innovative if not entirely successful dual sauce dress: half cream sauce, half tomato. The noodles were cooked correctly (not too mushy, not too tough), and the lasgna tread the cheese-line well (not too much, not too little). Overall, this isn't prototypical Italian food, which is a benefit and a drawback to Luna. Come with an open mind and you may be well pleased. But don't expect to be wowed on any count. read more

This a great spot in downtown concord. We've been twice and both experiences have been memorable. Food is on par with some of the great Italian restaurants in Walnut Creek and San Francisco. It's not a regular spot for us because it can get pricey, but it's great for a special occasion. My only wish is that they had more wines by the glass. I would really give this place a 3.5 but that is not an option. Hubby dear brought me here over the weekend for a date night. I found the restaurant to be a bit stuffy, I didn't find the waitress (an older woman) to be overly friendly nor did she smile much. She was all business. The food wasn't terribly but it was just ok. They have a limited selection for vegetarians. Hubby and I both ordered the spinach ravioli. I like the sauteed spinach and the sundried tomatoes. I thought the restaurant was a bit pricey. I found the bread to be more on the hard and dry side. We also got a house salad, which we shared. It was a large salad enough for us to share. If I had to do it again, I would go elsewhere for a friendlier atmosphere. read more

What a hidden gem! Menu includes many delicious favorites. We had six women for dinner and all of us cleaned our plates! I had the salmon which is made with a tomato broth sauce, wine, capers and kalamata olives. It was beautifully plated with potatoes and veggies. Service was excellent. Waitress picked a nice wine for us too. We shared 3 desserts. The chocolate soufflé, tiramisu, and profiteroles. All were fab and were served on plates with swirled sauces. They were gorgeous and yummy. The location sits behind Starbucks so don't get lost. Small, intimate setting. Service was a little slow, but that suited us because six women always have a lot to talk about. If you are in a rush, I suggest making that known. I can't wait to go back with my family. read more

In the past we've enjoyed Luna more than our visit last night. The service was nice, not pushy. My chicken cannelloni was tasty. Hubby said his swordfish special was ok. Here's why we're rating the restaurant with a mere 3 stars. I had the Mista salad (mixed greens, Gorgonzola, walnuts) and he had baby spinach with candied nuts, pears and Gorgonzola -- both salads were extremely salty. It was, as if the sous chef didn't understand that diners do enjoy the taste of fresh vegetables and gave both salads some heavy handed treatment with a salt shaker! In actuality, I'd say this place is more of a 4-star place. But as I'm sure you'd guess, Concord doesn't exactly have incredible competition for quality dining with a nice ambiance. Anyway, I decided to add a star since this place was such a great find for the area. I went for dinner with my girlfriend after driving out to WC & the Fry's in Concord. The food was very tasty, I distinctively remember liking the bread they brought. There were paintings all over the walls of Italian Cityscapes and the place had a real cozy feel. The wait wasn't long and the prices were very reasonable. But lets face it, it won't knock your socks off like a 5-star place does. read more

hmmm ... before starting this review, i had 4 stars for this ristorante in mind, but when i thought more specifically from reviewing angle, i ended up with 3. It is a good place for two or a group of 3 max. Very small place (you may call it cozy if you are in good mood!) and quit atmosphere inside. When I went with my wife there, most of the tables where occupied by the oldies having fun themselves. (That didnt give me a romantic feeling atall) Food was good, i should say. We ordered pastas and liked it. Overall, i believe, this is a kind of place where you go when you are in concord, and particularly passing by willow pass road, and hungry and do not have gps installed in your car to look for other options and you love italian food and do not mind small cozy place to eat and company of oldies! have fun! read more
