Came here with my family at lunch on a weekday so it wasn't crowded at all and service was quick. Servers were friendly, food was good, drink menu is on the slightly expensive side. We had the calamari fritti ($14) appetizer, which was crispy and delicious. For the entrées, we ordered the spaghetti pescatora ($25) which contains mussels, clams, shrimp and squid in a light tomato-based sauce, the tortellacci ripieni brasato di manzo al tarfuto nero ($26) which are giant tortellini stuffed with short ribs and black truffle in alfredo sauce, risotto crema di scampi ($22), shrimp risotto in creamy pink vodka sauce, and the margherita pizza ($16) with mozzarella cheese. Everyone's favorite was the tortellacci and we were a little sad that that particular dish was the smallest serving out of everything we ordered, haha. I'd recommend the spaghetti and the tortellacci for new diners; nothing wrong with our other choices, I just feel that risotto tends to sit a little heavy in your stomach and the flavor profile wasn't nearly as interesting as the tortellacci and it's hard to go wrong with margherita pizza since it's very simple and only has cheese. Everything was good and we were all full at the end even though we are all big eaters. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was the best Italian food I've eaten but I'd definitely stop by again if I were in the area and craving Italian food. This was our first time at Luna Rossa and I must say thank you to the owner for giving us a $15 credit since we had been misinformed about the 30% "yelp check-in" discount that was not being offered at the time. We began our meal with a Caesar salad, which was quite tasteless and dry. After adding salt, balsamic vinegar and olive oil the taste improved. The bread was good but we had to ask for butter. We enjoyed the short-rib ravioli. However, the pomedoro sauce on the spaghetti resembled the sauce I remember from Spaghetti-O's. Not bad but no fresh herbs and flavorless. Definitely overpriced but the dining was pleasant...just not great food. read more

The consistency of excellence is immensely impressive, from the staff to the atmosphere and especially the food! The owner, Valentina, has done an amazing job of giving the restaurant that authentic italian feel. Food was decent. But charging $5 for adding broccoli to my fettuccine Alfredo is RIDICULOUS. You charge $5 to add chicken (which I think is a fair price), as it's meat that costs more.!! Not to mention our waiter didn't tell me it was an upcharge for the broccoli. I just asked if I could add some he said yes or course like ok why not tell me it's $5 extra! Also our waiter never helped us with anything. No Water refill. No pepper or cheese, had to ask for black pepper for my pasta. Had to ask for check. Had credit card ready to hand when check was presented & I asked him to take it now & he just waltz on by. Rude. Honestly disappointed by how great of reviews you had. My wife and I live near here, have always wondered about it. It looked fancy and overpriced. BUT, it was fairly priced and wonderful traditional Italian food. I would suggest the Bolognese sauce form anything. The veal it amazing as well. If you make it to dessert, the Dream Bomba, was fantastic, think chocolate, caramel, and peanut butter. Brent! An amazing waiter, he checked it with us constantly but not too much and not invasively. We didn't feel rushed, that's a big one for me. My wife and I like to enjoy plenty of drinks and appetizers before we even look at entrees, let alone order. This was a fine and reasonable dining experience. I am writing this review after visiting Luna Rossa for a second time. Unfortunately, we visited this establishment when it first opened, and our experience was very unpleasant. However, after visiting Luna Rossa again a couple months later, it was a completly different experience. Our server, and manager I belive, Matt, was fantastic. His service and his warm personality was superb. I would come back just to experiece Matt again. As far as the food, it was amazing. I ordered the Chicken Parm, and I will say that it was the best I have ever had! Pretty amazing. We had lunch here today, and food was great. Only negative was there was no hostess available right away to greet and seat us, but our serve was friendly, funny and attentive. The bread was fresh. I ordered the FETTUCCINE MARE E MONTI, egg fettuccine with shrimp, mushroom in creamy Alfredo sauce. I was blown away. The pasta was perfectly cooked. The shrimp was fresh and succulent. The mushrooms were very flavorful, and added so much earthiness to the creamy Alfredo sauce. For a lunch during weekdays, the service was pretty quick. My friend and I finally checked out Luna Rossa for a birthday dinner and we were so pleasantly surprised! They have a nice patio with a fireplace and cool heaters if it gets chilly. It's near a big fountain by the AMC theater so it's soothing, plus music being played in the mall. The food was very good, a little expensive for what I expected at this location, but it was delicious. We started with the Eggplant Parmesan, which was so rich and eye-rollingly good, then shared the mushroom risotto and the lobster ravioli. The ravioli scored highest! The risotto was very good and I look forward to the leftovers today :) Some restaurants add too much salt, but it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The chianti classic is a must! So smooth, low alcohol so you it doesn't hit you hard. A great starter. I brought a cupcake and candle to celebrate the birthday and our waiter was so kind to prepare it on a plate, add the candle and light it for us. They also bring you a glass of sweet moscato at the end of your meal...or maybe that's a birthday thing?? Great touch, regardless. So sad I waited so long, but happy that I'll go back! read more

My go-to Italian restaurant! I've bought 2 separate Groupons for this place and was treated with the best customer service! I'm always anxious about presenting a Groupon at a restaurant (especially a nicer one like this) but there was absolutely no reason to be. I got the plain jane cheese ravioli with pink sauce and it was consistently delicious both times. My boyfriend got the fettucine alfredo and although nothing about it looked exciting, he was very pleased with it. Overall, there is an upscale, classier ambience but without the snooty service. We stumbled across this gem, and were very pleasantly surprised! The restaurant was clean and very nice and inviting. My husband ordered a Casertana pizza, and I ordered a spaghetti al pesto. First of all, the bread they brought to the table was warm and delicious. Then our entrees came, oh my goodness. The pesto was the BEST I ever had, seriously. The pasta cooked to perfection! The pizza was thin crusted, perfectly cooked, and just delicious. We were rushed, so declined the dessert menu, but were served two little Italian cookies with our check..... two little pieces of heaven itself. I can not wait to return when I have plenty of time to languish over a delicious, fairly priced, authentic Italian meal served with class in a very pleasant environment. We wait another 10 minutes for the manager to come over and take our drink order. Get got no complimentary bread ( it looked good) :(. The food was served quick.... we didnt get our waters... no waiters come to check on us at all. No one gives us eye contact. Were trying to pay and get the ef out... we had to get up to get a server... they go up to the host so they can attendance us..... put waiter that we never interacted with comes and acts salty with us. Would definitely recommend for anyone, but especially recommend for those who are gluten sensitive/intolerant. They are very on top of their food regarding allergies and usually triple check to make sure it is what you ordered. On top of allergy efficiency, the food is delicious and the service is great. I have brought a few friends here, all of whom loved it and have come back time and time again. Generally a great place to bring family and friends who love GOOD Italian food. The atmosphere and service are wonderful too. It has an elegant yet casual (enough for lunch) atmosphere. Furthermore I have never been met with a frowning face. First time we have been here. Don't know why we would ever go back. We met other people there and they had already been waiting 30 minutes to get a bowl of minestrone soup only at that time. When it finally came out we all looked at each other and said what is that. It looked nothing like minestrone soup only a bunch of vegetables somebody threw in broth. This could only compare to the spaghetti and meatballs that I ordered where it looked and tasted like the meatballs were bought at the local supermarket. Our server Brent was unattentive (worst I have ever seen from a waiter in all my years). Just didn't care about customer service at all. When we told him we were ready to order our entrées, he literally told us it's not time yet. There were not a lot of people at the restaurant and they were not busy. A couple sitting behind us even got up and left mad because they had not been waited on and forgotten. They had been there before our friends so they must have been waiting at least 45 minutes. The only redeeming quality was the ambience of the patio and the live music. I honestly don't know how a place like this stays open? Bad service, bad food. Look somewhere else if you're going out for dinner. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon and I was seated immediately, as the restaurant was pretty empty. The layout is very awkward because the moment you walk in, you are greeted by a large partition separating the restaurant into two sections. The venue isn't unattractive, but it could have been planned out better. I was served by Valentina, who was very sweet and helpful. I told her I was vegetarian and she recommended several dishes. I ordered the minestrone soup and bruschetta. My mom had the chicken panino. The food came out quite quickly, but it wasn't exactly what we expected. My bruschetta was delicious; no complaints there. However, the minestrone looked more like a garden vegetable soup. Instead of containing the usual beans, pasta and tomatoes, it had broccoli, cauliflower and potatoes. My mom's panino was on a french roll and was not pressed in a panini grill. However, we brought this to Valentina's attention and she assured us that the chef was Italian and that the food was authentic. It was delicious nonetheless, just be aware that some of the dishes may not be like the Italian food you've had in the past. At the end of the meal, the chef came out to present us with some complimentary treats. They were sublime! All in all, we had a pleasant meal and I would recommend this place to anyone in Tustin. One thing to keep in mind is that the prices are pretty high. Expect to pay $15-20 per person just for lunch. Also, as I was entering the bathroom, I noticed one of the waitresses (short, black haircut) leaving the stall without washing her hands! I am praying that she only went in there to check her phone! THE MOOD: We came during one of the hottest weekend in SoCal. Perhaps because everyone stayed at home with their AC on, this restaurant barely had any customer which made the mood rather...lonely? THE FOOD: CALAMARI: The coating was crisp and fresh. Not too salty and not too blend. The sauce was a little spicy which matched my taste very well but not so much for the kids. SPAGHETTI ALLE VONGOLE: The spaghetti was a light white sauce. The clam was fresh and the sauce was right on the spot. This chef utilized the salt from the clam to compliment the spaghetti and sauce very well. PENNE ALLA VODKA with SHRIMP: Nothing can go wrong when it's made with Vodka!!! This dish was delicious!!! The penne was aldente and the red sauce had the perfect sweetness to it with a bit of underlying sourness from the tomato sauce. The four jumbo size shrimps were definitely worth the extra few bucks. DESSERTS: After we paid for the meal, our waiter brought out five pieces of dessert puffs with powdered sugar sprinkled on top as a sweet treat. The chicken tasted okay for the most part but the pasta was not good at all.. Lacked taste and flavor. Was not worth the $25... Just for this entree. I regret not ordering a fettuccine Alfredo dish. My father ordered one and it tasted much much better. Overall I give this place 3 stars because I do believe they have good food options, if the menu was a little easier to read it might be less of an issue picking what you want. read more
