We read the reviews and were hoping to get the best value Lobster Rolls we could find out in the Hamptons a couple of weeks ago. Asked what's real good and was pointed at the Lobster Roll with French Fries. Wife got a Local, in season, Stuffed Beefsteak Tomato with the same filling as in the Lobster Roll. We chose to have water as it was in the afternoon. Both of us had the exact same experience..... MEH! Lobster was really quite bland and almost flavorless and they added a spice that did NOT belong. And as usual, not much there. French Fries were to make sure I didn't walk out starving. Cole Slaw was decent. The tomato was NOT stuffed, but a small cup shaped hole was removed from the top and a small amount was in it and a little over the top to appear as a healthy portion. NOPE! Same blah lobster with an uncomplementary spice and for a locally grown beefsteak tomato at the end of August, it was quite hard and just like supermarket tomatoes out of season. Almost flavorless. Between bill and tip, $97 painful dollars. Maybe they had a bad day. WE did too. At least THAT PART of the day. Won't be returning. Be advised.... It can happen. We came here as a family after spending some time today at Hanks Pumpkintown. The menu was right up our alley, and even with an expensive menu (it's the Hamptons) we decided to give it a try. The lobster bisque my husband got was great. I ordered the hot lobster bowl which was supposed to be hot lobster dipped in butter over a salad. The lobster portion was large but it was cold and there was clearly no butter. My husband also ordered the fried clams which were chewy and over cooked and looked like the kind we can buy at the grocery store. He complained and they did comp his dish. My kids ordered from the kids menu and they were very happy with their choices. However my daughter wanted corn on the side not French fries. But they made the correction once i let them know. Finally the reasonable prices of the casual seafood restaurant from Montauk placed right off the Toni village of Southampton. Been to the location in Montauk which was a great experience but came to check out the new location in Southampton for a weekday lunch and it was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in The Hamptons. For our party of 3, we ordered a grey goose martini, plump mussels appetizer, New England clam chowder, whole steamed lobster, fried clam strips and broiled seafood (includes flounder, shrimp, and scallops) which they let us know that scallops were sold out - we inquired if we can substitute the scallops for another seafood item. Maybe clams or mussels? No and no. How about a crab cake or a piece of cod fish? Also, no. The only option was to have a few extra pieces of shrimp. At this point, I didn't care anymore so accepted whatever substitute that the server deemed acceptable that did not cost more than scallops as every substitute we suggested would've cost more than scallops, apparently. Aren't scallops usually more expensive than all those proposed substitutions? We're not asking to substitute for lobster, crab legs or making any outrageous requests. Our entrees arrive but we didn't get our mussels appetizer but we thought it would come shortly after. As our lunch progressed we realized the mussels were not coming. At the end of our meal, the check came and mussels were on the check - surprise! We pointed out that we never received our mussels appetizer and the server responded "Really!? Oh my, I just keep striking out with you today! I am so sorry." Our server then went to correct our check and brought it back to us with another apology and asked "if the check looks ok now?" while holding an apple pie in her other hand. Was that apple pie for us for the poor experience we had? We thought so! But actually, she just scurried away to another table with the apple pie. Striking out yet again. Maybe my hopes were too high since our first experience at Lobster Roll (Lunch) in Montauk was far beyond my expectations in the middle of Summer during their busiest season. Since we're in the dead of Winter while visiting this Southampton location on a Tuesday at 3pm, it was very quiet - there were 5 tables max including us. We didn't get checked on to see how our lunch was going, the server didn't notice that we didn't get our appetizer and the 5-6 employees seemed so busy huddled together by the counter chatting. There were a lot of things that did not go right with our lunch and our party expected some type of gesture to make it right. Like sending a complimentary dessert or comping the alcoholic beverage for all the trouble we experienced? Nope, a half-hearted and lackluster apology was what we got. Won't be coming back to this location again and wish I could give no stars. We were absolutely flabbergasted but still graciously left 20% tip. I am a bit disappointed in the overall experience today. A gentleman working who was sitting people made a very rude comment. A party of 5 HS/college age kids and 3 adults didn't want to sit outside. I really want to like this place. I've had 3 really bad meals here and unfortunately won't be back. I've had cold over cooked fried seafood, a grilled tuna salad I ordered rare and came out well done and a lobster roll that smelled like bad shellfish. I hate writing bad reviews but tonight was final straw. In addition to smelly seafood I was shocked to see four twenty something's at the door with the host. Problem was they had a f'n dog with them. Not a service dog but healthy girls just bringing there dog with them. It was my first time there, it was beautiful, clean, everyone was smiling, (EVERYONE), and the food was perfect!!! I liked the pint glass that came with my Montauk brew...
