Thought it was going to be all hype, based on being the most reviewed restaurant in Richmond, but it was actually super good. They had a great outside waiting area with an outdoor bar and seating. Got there around 11 on a Saturday and waited for about 20-25 minutes. Three of us and we got the double barrel bowl, flying shrimp bowl, and hot chicken sandwich. The double barrel was definitely my favorite of the three and had a great variety of ingredients and layers within the dish. Flying shrimp was good as well. Hot chicken sandwich was ok, the chicken itself was excellent, but the bread was really rich probably from a combination of the oil in the chicken and buttering the toast. It was too rich and I ended up eating just the chicken for the second half. Service is great, prices are excellent, and portions are huge. Would definitely recommend! read more

This restaurant was the perfect location in between DC and Norfolk to meet my family for our annual Mother's Day brunch. I called in advance to try to schedule a reservation and they stated they don't accept reservations until after 6pm. They mentioned that the wait time would be a minimum of 1 hour. So, I left in advance to get there and have time enough to put our name on the list. Wait time: I was quoted a wait time of 100 minutes (1 hr and 40 minutes). Cool, this gave my family plenty of time to drive there and make it before brunch. I decided to go to the Beer Garden next door. They had an outdoor area where you could play corn hole. They also had a bar, which I indulged in a refreshing beer called Summer Snow. It's a sour beer with a fruity taste. I loved it, and it was only $7. They had other beers, mimosas and rosé as beverage options. There's this other seating area that's fully air conditioned and have bathrooms. I stayed in there until my family arrived. So, then I got a text that my table was ready before the quoted wait time. I thought no biggie, I would see how far my family is and let the restaurant know their arrival time. One little hiccup: The only negative experience I had was convincing the hostess to wait for my party. Again, we would told 100 minutes and our table was available sooner. My family was driving from out of town to get there and i thought they would be understanding. I couldn't reject the reservation and lose out. They were 20 minutes out, stuck in traffic. They gave us a little grace period but we ended up losing our table and got stuck in the corner somewhere. Food: Once seated, I figured we should make the most of it. I convinced my family to come and I was prayerful that the food would turn our negative experience to a positive one. And it did. We made it before the 3pm brunch cutoff time. The menu was filled with delicious omelets, breakfast sandwiches, French toast, pancakes, breakfast bowls and other brunch options. We tried the Wild Bill and Smoked Salmon omelets and half the table went with the fried chicken an waffles. They said the FC&W was mediocre but the omelettes were amazing. All the food was reasonably priced. Came with a option of cheesy grits or hash browns. (Go with the cheesy grits. You will thank me later) Overall, we decided no more meeting up at restaurants for Mother's Day. It's too much of a hassle and long wait times. For such a small space, even before Covid, the seating is NOT OKAY. I felt like I was kind of forced to be friendly with the people seated on either side, because otherwise, I couldn't make it to the bathroom. There wasn't room to stand, and I'm a small person. The bathrooms are unisex, which is cool--when they are clean. What isn't cool is how, directly--and I mean DIRECTLY outside of one of the two bathrooms, is the ice they use for all of your non-alcoholic drinks and the soda machine. I ordered the meatloaf wrapped in bacon sandwich. It lacked flavor and the bacon wasn't crispy. It wasn't my favorite. My sister in law who ordered the short rib and Mac and cheese sandwich was a much better choice. The short ribs were moist and tender with so much flavor and the Mac and cheese was perfect. We chose to dine at Lunch and ordered the Buttermilk Boneless Fried Chicken & Waffles and the Double Barrel breakfast bowl. The chicken was juicy and tender, a perfect topping for some of the fluffiest Belgian waffles ever, while the double barrel was a pile of house-smoked, pulled pork BBQ over hashbrowns topped with eggs, bacon and cheese. AND sausage gravy. Holy southern heaven! Heads up: As far as square footage goes, Lunch is pretty tiny in comparison to Supper. What it lacks in space though, it makes up in the size of their servings, especially if you dare to order one of their breakfast bowls. We struggled to finish our plates. Try to get there early, because there's usually a wait during peak hours, and they only accept reservations for parties of 6 - 12 from 11 am - 2 pm and 5 pm - 10 pm on weekdays and 5 pm - 10 pm on weekends (excluding patio seating). Had dinner with a friend at Lunch. I really like this place! I think it can grow to love. I had the meatloaf over mashed potatoes. It was so good! I ate everything off of my plate, a little embarrassed. The mashed potatoes were kind of whipped up and baked. The meatloaf good (I admit I'm no expert, but as good as The Hill Cafe's) and had a kind of tomatoey-siracha red sauce on top. It was not very sweet like ketchup which is good. My friend had one of the cheese sandwiches. Despite the "comfort" food it was not too heavy. The place is very small or cozy if you will. There are two buildings for this restaurant. We were in the one closest to the main street. There is no parking lot, only side street parking. The restaurant is small and cozy. There were only about 9 or 10 small tables with a max occupancy of 25. I had the dandelion cafe breakfast bowl. Grilled chicken with vegetables, scrambled eggs and cheese grits. I spied the table next to me. The chicken and waffle entree looked amazing but I was completely in heaven with my dish. I don't normally eat grits. When we walked in the place was full but luckily a couple was about to leave so we were seated pretty quickly. The place is cute and flowing with conversation. Like many American dinners and restaurants the dish lacked flavor. The hash browns tasted to charred on some parts and had no other flavor than potato, they could've added at the least a little salt and pepper. The waffles were pretty good and paired well with the perfectly cooked chicken. The chicken was the best part of the dish but could've had more crunch rather than the outside crust just sliding off. I will eventually go back to try more items on the menu but for now i will stick with giving them a 3 star rating read more

Firstly there are two separate buildings - Lunch and Supper, with its own wait lines, kitchens and menus. So be careful which building you enter as you may be surprised some menu items are not available if you base it off the online menu. We arrived at 1pm for lunch and was advised a 30-40mins wait, luckily for us it turned out to be a 5 minute wait as groups of tables cleared out. The patio seated area had a longer wait time than the inside bar area. Tables inside seemed to cater for smaller groups, it had a bar area and two to four seat tables (probably could cater for about 20+ people inside. Decor looked bar cosy, specials on he blackboards hung on the wall. Lunch menu at Supper consisted of sandwiches (ie. burgers) and salads, our group ordered the Scotts Addition, Lyon Den and the Pork Belly special. There was a serve of potato crisps (ie kettle chips) and that was about it. Plenty of meat provided but lacking in the sides department (these seemed to be optional extras you could add on). Pricing is around the low $10's pre tax and serving size was sufficient (plenty of meat provided) with a nice toasted (and soft) bun. Overall taste was good; well executed, the meats were tender and it wasn't drenched in some overly sweet sauce to give it flavour. Tried the ginger tea, couldn't really taste the ginger and it wasn't overly sweet (could still taste the tea vs drinking sugary water) so that was a good balance. Served in a smallish mug cup - compared to other drink serving sizes I've experienced so far in USA. Service was ok, pretty much left us alone after the obligatory "how's the food" question as soon as you receive the food. read more

I had a fantastic lunch at Lunch! It's quite a small eating establishment and gets very busy/popular, so I ended up eating at the bar. It's very lively as well, especially with the open kitchen. My waitress/bartender was no-nonsense and served me well as she juggled many other tasks. Since I'm a huge biscuits and gravy fan, I ordered the Train Wreck, which did not disappoint! I considered ordering the soup as well, but it was a thick, cream-based soup that day, and decided that it would be too heavy/too much food in addition to my entree. My server concurred, and it was a good call, because I was super stuffed by the end of the meal! The Train Wreck came with a large biscuit cut in half and served open, topped with tasty sausage, gravy, cheese, and eggs. I opted for home fries instead of grits on the side, although the home fries were not what I expected (they turned out to be what I would call hash browns).
