However, the food was very bad. We ordered pad thai with tofu, and the dish that was brought out was about 75% massive, tasteless chunks of tofu. What few noodles could be found underneath all the tofu were mixed with chopped onion, diminishing their ratio even further. There was a tiny pile of about 1/2 tsp of ground peanuts added in one corner of the plate. The sauce tasted sour and burnt. One of the worst pad thai variations I've had in a long time. Still.. I wouldn't fault them just for having bad food, but within an hour of leaving the restaurant, both the spouse and I were having an upset stomach, and ended up not being able to finish our drive home without having to pull over and find a public restroom. I would chalk it up to coincidence, but my spouse revealed that when she used the restroom, there were prominent signs indicating that no one is allowed to flush any sort of toilet paper down the toilet, and instead has to put them in open bins sitting in each stall next to the toilet. Each stall in the restroom had open trash cans filled with used toilet paper full of fecal matter, which is pretty horrifying to think of in a restaurant serving food in a first world country. My spouse brought home her leftovers and heated up them the next morning and within a half hour of eating them, was already having an upset stomach again which endured for the remainder of the day. We would definitely not eat here again, and it seems like the health department probably needs to pay this place a visit.

It is a noisy place full of older customers that know everyone in the place. Lots of customers hugging the staff, talking with the owners, and other tables. A great atmosphere if you are a local. One of the owners even suggested carrot cake for our desert. Really good by the way. We did see a number of regulars tables that were receiving complimentary appetizers. I get it, but you should treat first time customers the same to make them repeat customers? The issue was with service and how we were treated after we had to get service. Our server disappeared once our main course was ordered. Yes the place was packed, but the server made sure she kept on touching base with the regulars tables and we received less attention. Well like no attention. Well like we had to go to the bar to one of the owners to get our check. Well and when my significant other tried to comment that we had a lack in service the owner walked away from us. She turned a really nice first time experience into a never going back and write a bad review experience. (And my significant other was mad the whole evening, which made the event worse for me.) Normally this pad Thai leans savory over sweet, but this time it just straight up tasted sour. The tofu was nothing to write home about, which is typically not the experience I have here. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had more sear on the meat than actual beef. It tasted over-charred. The rice and veggies were good, but that's kind of a simple feat. I ordered the Pomegrantate martini which was good. The space was also very hot, I understand it's a hot day and a busy restaurant but my legs were dripping in sweat the entire hour we were there. I will give them a try again, because I know from previous experiences the pad Thai was usually great. That tofu is what I keep coming back for! Hopefully next time it'll meet my expectations. While they have a dedicated gluten-free menu with options for changing things out, on two separate occasions (of the 4 times I've been there) they've made a mistake. I know for myself, you don't want to insinuate that you don't trust your server! My most recent visit there I had the shittake/vegetable Ramen with rice noodles. I explained that I can't have soy sauce because it contains wheat. I explained that if they have tamari that they could check if it is wheat free because I often can have tamari instead of soy sauce. I explained that I can't have anything that contains wheat. My server informed me that she would make sure that this was gluten-free, that the rice noodles would be replacing the Ramen noodles. While eating I was curious if the noodles were not gluten-free, and I was informed that they do seem to be rice noodles. We were also sure to order the tofu as steamed rather than fried so that it would not have cross-contamination. (Due to first glutened experience) Later that night and the following day I can report that what I ate was not in fact, rice noodles or gluten free, and I have been glutened. On a previous occasion, I ordered the fresh spring rolls with a sauce that I was informed was gluten-free with tofu. While already eating this, the server came over and informed me that the tofu was not gluten-free, and had been fried. I think that there may be some lack of understanding what gluten-free means and how it impacts people generally in most of the food service industry. I believe they did their best to try to accommodate. That being said if you are celiac or gluten intolerant, please steer clear! Very unfortunate because it was tasty. I understand that as someone who needs to eat gluten-free that I am taking a risk by eating at a restaurant that is not gluten-free forward. The chasu was slightly charred and added a flavor and meatiness to the dish. My partner and I both shared we typically don't finish ramen because it can be salty, oily and too strong in flavor, especially at the end. Eating here, my partner and I were able to finish our bowls clean! They were so good. The tonkatsu was fried so well (they know how to fry dishes, which is an underrated skill as it had just the right crunch without the oiliness) and seasoned perfectly. The sauce has some Japanese curry in it with a touch of sweetness that made eating the delicious dish easy. It was so good our kid asked for a second serving, which we finished! My favorite of the night was the rose tteokbokki. The tteokbokki was perfectly chewy and I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce. The popcorn chicken was also good and paired well with the sauce it came with. The bossam was on the dry side and the seafood pancake was pretty standard. The fries were good but wouldn't pay $10 for a basket of fries if we came back next time. The corn cheese was also good but the plate was small.
