I typically can always count on Green Room serving up great food and drinks, however my last visit was a bit of a disappointment. I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, the staple menu item I order each time I visit. My guest ordered the Mongolian beef. My pad Thai came out visibly different than times past. It looks almost watered down and the tofu was not coated and seared with the beautiful crust it normally has. I ate it and it tasted... sour. Normally this pad Thai leans savory over sweet, but this time it just straight up tasted sour. The tofu was nothing to write home about, which is typically not the experience I have here. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had more sear on the meat than actual beef. It tasted over-charred. The rice and veggies were good, but that's kind of a simple feat. I ordered the Pomegrantate martini which was good. The space was also very hot, I understand it's a hot day and a busy restaurant but my legs were dripping in sweat the entire hour we were there. I will give them a try again, because I know from previous experiences the pad Thai was usually great. That tofu is what I keep coming back for! Hopefully next time it'll meet my expectations. Make no doubt about it the food is great. 4 star great. How did they ever turn this into a 1 star review? We were not regulars. It is a noisy place full of older customers that know everyone in the place. Lots of customers hugging the staff, talking with the owners, and other tables. A great atmosphere if you are a local. One of the owners even suggested carrot cake for our desert. Really good by the way. We did see a number of regulars tables that were receiving complimentary appetizers. I get it, but you should treat first time customers the same to make them repeat customers? The issue was with service and how we were treated after we had to get service. Our server disappeared once our main course was ordered. Yes the place was packed, but the server made sure she kept on touching base with the regulars tables and we received less attention. Well like no attention. Well like we had to go to the bar to one of the owners to get our check. Well and when my significant other tried to comment that we had a lack in service the owner walked away from us. She turned a really nice first time experience into a never going back and write a bad review experience. (And my significant other was mad the whole evening, which made the event worse for me.) So even though I wanted to at least give them a 2 star review I had to tie it back to the tip we gave of $1. Regretfully we will not be going back to The Green Room. read more

My Friend and I were looking for a good place to meet and have some "girl time." What a gem! I would recommend reservations though. When I first arrived, my friend was running late. The waiter was friendly and recommended the pomegranate martini! GREAT CHOICE! It was pretty and delicious. The atmosphere is a little tight but very inviting and fun. It is fairly small...just a store front, but we were comfortable at our table. The food was AMAZING! We had the Pad Thai and the nutty chicken. I am not a fan of tofu! However, the tofu in the PAD Thai was Beyond delicious!!! The Nutty Chicken was delicious as well and came with mash potatoes. YUM YUM YUM I am not a big fan of downtown Libertyville because of the parking and ease of access to the actual restaurants. However, I was able to find on street parking pretty easily at 5:00 pm on a Friday evening. Plus, the food is definitely worth the adventure. read more

The Green Room has been a favorite of my family and I for years! It's always delicious when we go. The food and drinks are amazing! We love the bang bang shrimp (they are gluten free too!), the mussels, the fish with the butter sauce (it's usually a special), and the general tso chicken. I don't think I have ever had a bad meal here! It used to be a Chinese restaurant so hence the Chinese inspired dishes. It gets packed around 7pm so be sure to make a reservation. Although small, the ambiance is really cozy and upbeat. The service is also great. We will keep coming to The Green Room for years to come! We very loyal!! read more

I would love to rate the Green Room higher - I had great expectations based on many positive reviews. Unfortunately, I was not particularly impressed with our experience. Decor is essentially unchanged from when it was Henry Yee's many years ago. We were a bit too close to the entrance and so we were cold due to the not air tight entryway. The service was friendly but wait for food was long. Our choices were all mediocre - Lemon chicken (bland and sauce was weak), General Tso's chicken (average - not memorable) and Coconut Curry (also very average - not what I expected based in other reviews). I wanted this experience to be better - since Libertyville lacks good dining choices - but sorry to say we will not return to the Green Room. read more

I'm disappointed IN US that we didn't visit The Green Room sooner! It's a small place that is so inviting and has a very cool ambiance. We tried most of the items on their daily specials menu, which were all fantastic! The walleye had a crisp crust, the mussles were cooked in a wonderful creamy sauce, the Hong Kong noodles were cooked perfectly and were so flavorful! Located in downtown Libertyville, the restaurant had an unassuming exterior with no outdoor seating, so one could easily walk past it without noticing the restaurant. The staff was friendly and was able to accommodate us on a Friday night which was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant was quaint and had a few interesting cocktails options. We tried the Green cocktail and Mexican water which were both good. The bar had a regular following and the atmosphere was lively. We both chose the entrée specials and especially liked the Canadian Walleye, which was fresh and crispy, encrusted and served with a beurre blanc sauce. I've been to Green Room a couple times which is located on Milwaukee Avenue in the heart of downtown Libertyville. Parking can be a bit challenging. I recommend going earlier around 5pm to find a parking spot. This is an interesting restaurant because it offers both Asian and also Italian food. The ambience is casual and the service both times I went was friendly and attentive. The pomegranate martini was not one of my favorites I've ever had but decent. I will try a different cocktail next time I'm there.The chicken piccata was tender, flavorful, really good and ample to share with two people. I look forward to trying something different next time I go to the Green Room. I give this place 3.75 stars. read more

Great food and service! We enjoyed dinner here with our 6 yr old daughter and everything we had was delicious! We had the coconut curry chicken, pad thai with chicken, and my 6 yr old daughter had a creamy bowtie pasta that she said she loved! Everyone was very attentive and really made effort to make sure we were happy with our meals! When discovered, it was gross. I didn't feel like finishing any of the other food, but we stayed. They removed the charge from bill, and I think they may have given me a dessert. We ate here for the first time this past weekend. The food was terrific. Our friends made the reservation and I'd not heard of this restaurant before. We had the bang bang shrimp, the mussels and I had a nice steak stir fry with plenty of good veggies. The menu was really interesting, there were so many nice options for food and whether someone is a meat-eater, seafood lover or a vegetarian there are good options for all! We will definitely dine here again. My only suggestion is that there is a strong smell of some sort of air deodorant in the restaurant that I didn't like as I am sensitive to strong smells. It was some sort of perfumey floral smell. I think the restaurant would be better without it. read more

We asked to sit by the window and the older gray haired gentleman complained to us that HE WASN'T GOING TO LET US MESS UP HIS SEATING CHART. A couple of Libertyville locals told me that The Green Room used to be the location of a Chinese take out place. It's sad that the take out place didn't work out but this town is lucky that The Green Room replaced it. It is located right beside the old school Libertyville Theater in the town's downtown area so street parking can be challenging on busy weekends. I definitely recommend making reservations because the place has limited seating and when we came at 7:30pm for our Friday dinner reserved time, the place was packed and really busy. Even the bar was filled with customers, some of them eating their dinner there as well. We were seated in a corner booth which was perfect since the other tables are uncomfortably close to each other. Our server was friendly, recommended a great appetizer and very efficient. Another crew helped us read one item on the menu...don't judge...the menu prints were small and in cursive... #oldpeopleproblems:) They have nice wine and beer selections and it was nice seeing the bartenders whipping up various cocktails for the happy customers. Here are the items that I've tried from TGR: ASPARAGUS- this appetizer was in the Specials Board menu. It was dipped in tempura batter, then fried...and the dipping sauce was outstanding. It had great balance on sweetness, little tartness and great kick of spiciness. I would get this dish again. GENERAL TSO'S CHICKEN- great pieces of white meat with just the right amount of batter/breading so I'm actually eating the protein, not the batter. The sauce was really (a little too much) flavorful although after a few bites, it comes out heavy and rich so I recommend to have a side of steamed rice with this dish. THE UNLUCKY DUCK- Unlucky for the duck but lucky for me! Everything on this dish tasted, smelled, and was executed very well. The skin had the excellent crispiness while the meat itself was so tender and juicy. The rice under the duck had a little sauce which was delicious and just enough not to overpower the highlight of the dish. The restrooms are located at the "basement" of the place and this part of TGR shows the old/original portion of the building. It's clean but a little updating would be nice though. Overall, it was a very nice dining experience and I'll be back for sure. They have a few menu items that I would like to try next time and I'm glad that The Green Room adds to my options of places to dine in the area. read more

We experienced a really pleasant surprise finding this restaurant! Food is fantastic with superb attention to flavor and texture details. We had no idea which place to pick from several interesting choices in downtown Libertyville as we found ourselves unexpectedly with a dinner time date in the area. The nutty chicken caught my eye on the menu as we searched restaurants online and since green is my favorite color I thought we'd check it out. Wow! I didn't choose the nutty chicken because there were so many great options fitting for a hot summer evening. The crispy beef with veggies was perfect and my husband had the spaghettini mussullini which was a perfectly seasoned light tomato basil sauce and seafood pasta dish. The key lime pie is amazing and easily one of the best key lime desserts I've had whicj includes Florida! The specialty drinks are worth trying. The bartender even stopped by our table and shared some new ideas he is creating and encouraged us to ask him what else he's developing to try on our next visit. The servers all worked together seamlessly taking our order and serving the food. It was very obvious the owners take lots of pride in providing a great work environment because every person there loved their job and it showed! The owner even stopped at our table as our waiter summoned him to hear first hand our review of the key lime pie. He was humbled by our accolades which is very unique for restaurant owners. Totally charmed by this restaurant. I had heard good reviews by word of mouth but had just never made it here. It was the absolute perfect place for the four us to discuss our upcoming trip to Europe. It has a modern and old world feel. The dishes are perfect - we had a variety of plates: continental, Asian fusion, Italian, Mediterranean. The drinks were visually stimulating and masterfully blended. The glasses were lovely too! Don't skip desert - freshly made key lime pie - not a mammoth gluttonous size, but an old fashioned appropriate sized desert, enough to please the pallet and do it's thing, and it wasn't full of sugar, I could actually taste the lime. Oh, and the staff was five star, Jo was awesome as was the friendly bartender in that awesome coliseum shirt. I love this small cozy place! Located next to to the libertyville theater, this place is a must try! We had reservations on a saturday night at 8pm. But since it was easter weekend, downtown libertyville was unusually quiet... I would say the crowd ranges from mid 20's to late 50's. There's a mini bar that can probably seat 15 or so people. Our waitress, Jen, was awesome! Very friendly and welcoming. Before coming to this place, i reallllly wanted to try their pad thai (huge pad thai fan here!) or the nutty chicken. But since i heard they are known for fish dishes, i opted for the Halibut $35 (special of the day). The Halibut was pan fried, topped with long beans and mushrooms. The mushrooms and fish was perfectly seasoned. You can choose either rice or mashed potatoes and i had the mash. It was very fluffly and buttery. VERY FILLING. I was only able to finish 1/3rd of my fish. The halibut was a pretty good portioned size. My BF got the Manchengo filet. The filet came with asparagus and au jus plus a side dish. The filet was cooked medium, like asked. It was topped with this cheese crust thing. I'm not a huge beef person so didn't try it but the bf loved it and cleared his plate! $36 Oh! We also orderd the crab cakes. It was delicious! I personally hate peppers mixed in my crab cakes and they didnt have any in theirs. It was worth $11 Also, they have many new and regular beers. One of the 3 i enjoyed that night was BEER TO DRINK MUSIC TO! The beers we got range from $6-$8 bucks a bottle. It's nice they match the beer to the glass. I was told i needed to try their Key Lime Pie and even though i was full to the fullest, im glad i got it. It was cupcake sized but im sure the calories are super packed in that small delicious evil thing! Please save room for this pie when you go! You WONT regret it! Esp if you like key lime anything! Their fish and filet is kinda pricey but their regular menu things arent. Give this place a try! i think you'll enjoy it as much as i did. read more
